This week on Taste Matters, host Mitchell Davis brings in author, journalist, and culinary historian Laura Shapiro to discuss how women’s role in the kitchen has evolved over the years. Laura then praises the food culture of the 1950s because of the shift it caused in the second half of the 1900s. After the break, Laura tells us about how the idea of quick, timed lunches were introduced into the American culture of the early 1900s, and how that has affected our perception of food and meals. This program has been sponsored by International Culinary Center.

“Lunch at home became this sort of American thing, no matter what class or what ethnic group you were in.” [23:30]
