For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.—He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.—As by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous.

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.—There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
