Ep. 92: How to create an extraordinary Employee Experience.
Creating a positive, meaningful and impactful Employee Experience starts with an outside-in perspective, i.e. focusing on how employee perceive their own experience rather than how the organization perceives the experience of their employees. Adopting an employee-centric approach is easier for companies that already have a customer-centric mindset. These companies understand that continuous testing, iteration, obsession for customer/employee feedback is the foundation for developing a winning EX. According the Kincentric’s recent report, “with a ‘never done,’ agile approach, companies can ensure successful delivery of the employee experience that unlocks the power of people and teams to accelerate organizational success.” “High-performing cultures come from highly engaged employees gaining meaningful experiences throughout the employee lifecycle – all the moments of inspiration, leadership, recognition, development and transition”, according to the report. Identifying moments that matter for your employees, designing an EX strategy to address these moments that matter will elevate your Employee Experience. Ken Oehler is a Senior Partner, Global Culture & Engagement Practice Leader at Kincentric, and co-author of Kincentric’s report “Create an eXtraordinary Employee eXperience – Global Employee eXperience Report 2019”. Today with Ken we talk about: - What is his definition of the Employee Experience. - How to design an EX that aligns with business needs and accelerates performance. - How to define and measure moments that matter. - How to deliver an impactful EX. - How can organizations unlock the power of people through EX. - How can organizations elevate their EX. Ep. 91: Building the employee experience in a rapid-growth company.
When a company grows big at a very fast pace, change is both constant and exciting. During periods of rapid growth, companies often revel in the glory of increased revenue, high performing teams, a sense of pride and belonging that comes with a positive trajectory. On the other hand, this success can also bring its own challenges – call them growing pains – that can create tensions, hiccups and negatively impact the company culture. As each new hire brings something new, influences and evolves the culture, the leadership team must keep a clear vision and navigate through turbulence that could create frustration, burnout, turnover or even negatively impact the company’s core values. Culture, with an ever-evolving employee experience, is the compass to keep the ship and its crew moving in the same direction. Tom McCauley is the Vice President of Employee Experience at Athletico Physical Therapy, one of the leaders in orthopedic rehabilitation services to communities, employers and athletes, with over 475 locations throughout twelve states. Today with Tom we talk about: - What triggered Athletico to create the VP of Employee Experience role and what was the process to define it vs a more traditional HR role. - How does Athletico scale up the culture and EX and ensure there is consistency across all the 475 locations spread across 12 states. - What makes Athletico different and attractive in very competitive field, with a close-to-zero unemployment rate among physical therapists. - How does the company balance quantity vs. quality when they have to fill positions very quickly in a very competitive candidate market. - What prompted Tom to revamp the onboarding process what the future state looks like. - How he sees the talent acquisition and the HR functions evolve in the next 5 years. Ep. 90: Inspiring lifetime loyalty from employees.
“Many companies operate from the point of view that employers deserve the loyalty of their employees simply because the companies pay those employees.” Modern workers are less likely than ever before to remain at a single company for long periods. Job-hopping doesn’t mean loyalty itself has lost its value, it’s just that the concept of loyalty has evolved. Some organizations and leaders still excel at cultivating remarkable loyalty within their teams. But loyalty doesn’t stop when an employee leaves a company. By managing a positive exit and maintaining a relationship with former employees (alumni network), loyalty can be nurtured for a possible return. Why would companies burn the bridge once a talent individual leaves? As a leader, wouldn’t you like your top performers to come back with more experience and new skills? Loyalty to a given company now has to be inspired rather than assumed. The best companies create cultures to which employees want to return, which provide both short-term and long-term benefits. That’s the new lifetime loyalty, and it serves everyone better than the old model of the same employees forever. Lee Caraher is the founder and CEO of Double Forte PR & Digital Marketing, a 15-year-old national agency that works with beloved and up-and-coming consumer, technology, and wine brands. Lee is a popular guest expert on leadership, intergenerational workplaces, public relations, crisis communications, social media and integrated marketing. She splits her time between San Francisco and New York City, and puts her medieval history degree to work every day. Her second book, “The Boomerang Principle: Inspiring Lifetime Loyalty From Employees” is a pragmatic and actionable guide to creating high-performing work cultures ready for the future. Today with Lee we talk about: - What is The Boomerang Principle? - What is the strategic advantage of putting the Boomerang Principle to work in organizations? - What’s the new employer-employee loyalty paradigm? - What are the 5 steps to creating a culture of return? - What goes into creating an alumni club? - How should employees approach leaving so they can come back? - What are the 3 things managers must do to work well with millennials? - What can women do to help themselves in male-dominated offices?
