Welcome to Eye On Horror, the official podcast of iHorror.com. This is

0:27

episode 123. Otherwise known as

0:33

season seven, Episode Four. I am

0:33

your host James Jay Edwards and

0:37

with me as always is your other

0:37

host Jacob Davison, how you

0:40

doing, Jacob?

0:41

I'm doing

0:41

alright, just recovering from a

0:46

midnight movie hangover, that

0:46

the St. Patrick's Day because I

0:50

was out late last night at the

0:50

midnight show of Leprechaun over

0:55

at the New Beverly, the

0:55

original, the OG with Warwick

0:59

Davis. I'll get into it more

0:59

once we get to the main show.

1:03

We were

1:03

recording this on St. Patrick's

1:06

Day. And I don't see any of us

1:06

wearing greens so pinch pan. I'm

1:10

wearing

1:10

green. Oh, I'm

1:10

gonna virtually pinch you both.

1:15

Also

1:16

with us, as

1:16

always is your other other host

1:18

Jon Correia How you doing

1:18

Correia are

1:20

doing

1:20

fantastic. Happy St. Patrick

1:23

Swayze Day, everybody. We're

1:23

gonna we're gonna I'm gonna pop

1:28

on Swayze Dancing. When, When

1:28

I'm making food a little later,

1:33

if y'all don't know, Swayze

1:33

Dancing, it was a dancing VHS

1:37

tape that Patrick Swayze's mom

1:37

made and host and he's one of

1:42

the dancers to help you learn

1:42

the Swayze Dancing. It's, it's

1:47

very wholesome.

1:51

We there's

1:51

actually kind of a lot of cool

1:54

horror thats come out since last

1:54

time we talked but um, let's

1:57

let's go first to Imaginary have

1:57

either you guys seen imaginary?

2:02

No, I haven't

2:02

gotten to that one. Imaginary

2:04

is.

2:05

It's it's

2:05

better than Night Swim. But it's

2:09

still typical Blumhouse it's

2:09

basically this woman moves back

2:13

into her child at home with her

2:13

adult family, her husband and

2:17

two stepdaughters and one of the

2:17

stepdaughters finds a teddy bear

2:21

in the basement and has like an

2:21

imaginary friend named Chauncey.

2:26

And it turns out this is the

2:26

same imaginary friend that the

2:29

woman had when she was a kid. So

2:29

of course, there's trouble afoot

2:33

there. It's one of those where I

2:33

don't think they quite stuck the

2:37

landing on it, they the

2:37

beginning parts with the bear

2:40

are the way they handled bears

2:40

actually really cool. Because

2:44

it's not like Chucky, where the

2:44

bear goes running, right that

2:47

the bears kind of like like a

2:47

shapeshifter. So like, it goes

2:51

from like teddy bear to There

2:51

are scenes where it gets more

2:54

menacing returns and other

2:54

things, but when they're just

2:57

focusing on the bear, it's one

2:57

of those deals where you're

3:00

like, Okay, wait, did that bares

3:00

facial expression change? Or is

3:03

that my imagination? You know,

3:03

it's that kind of, it's that

3:06

kind of creepiness. But, um, but

3:06

about the halfway point, it

3:10

turns into an Insidious movie.

3:10

So it goes from, from like, you

3:15

know, paranoia about this toy

3:15

to, you know, flat out into the

3:18

further we go. So it? It's, I

3:18

mean, it's, it's a, again, it's

3:23

a well made movie, which is what

3:23

Blumhouse does when they're

3:27

pumping these movies out. But

3:27

you know, it's not going to be

3:30

one. I mean, it's not gonna make

3:30

my top 10 I already know, but

3:34

it's an interesting movie.

3:35

Yeah, I did like

3:35

the preview picture of the bear

3:38

in you know, like, monster mode.

3:38

That did look kind of cool.

3:41

Yeah,

3:41

the the bear

3:41

in Monster mode, that's, uh,

3:44

that picture is a little bit of

3:44

a spoiler because it doesn't

3:47

really get to that mode until

3:47

they go into like, the further

3:51

but you know, saying it goes

3:51

into further as a spoiler as

3:54

well. But yeah, it's a it's a

3:54

it's a fun little, you know,

3:59

haunted toy movie, I guess. But.

3:59

But again, you know, it's not

4:03

gonna make my top 10 But

4:03

something that is going to make

4:06

my top 10 I'm sure of it. Love

4:06

Lies Bleeding.

4:11

Ah, yeah, that

4:11

was good. Have either.

4:13

Did you see

4:13

love lies bleeding Correia? No.

4:17

Like, I don't

4:17

like I'm trying to get that

4:21

money, guys.

4:24

Oh, my God.

4:24

Love Lies Bleeding. You did see

4:26

it Jacob?

4:27

Yeah, I was at

4:27

the I was at the premiere, or

4:27

I love it.

4:30

the la premiere with Kristen

4:30

Stewart, Katie O'Brien and Rose

4:34

Glass. And yeah, no, I thought

4:34

it was an amazing movie. Like it

4:35

Yeah, they dry it. It's it kind

4:35

of does have some something It's

4:39

was kind of a NEO Noir. It was a

4:39

dark romance. It was kind of a

4:43

crime caper. Ya know, it's just

4:43

such a amazing movie. And also

4:48

in common with Drive-Away Dolls

4:48

but it um oh yeah, no, it's

4:48

big year for lesbian crime

4:48

movies between that and

4:52

Drive-Away Dolls. Ah,

5:00

much darker. This is Rose glass who did Saint

5:03

Maud. This is much less of just

5:09

a pure horror movie than Saint

5:09

Maud This is almost like, like a

5:12

Coen Brothers Tarantino kind of

5:12

thing. And it takes place in the

5:17

80s which it is the only thing

5:17

that makes it and I liked this

5:22

it didn't completely lead into

5:22

the 80s as much as it could

5:26

have. The only thing that's

5:26

obviously 80s is the hairstyles

5:29

you have like Kristen Stewart

5:29

has a femullet and Ed Harris has

5:34

like this skullet He looks like

5:34

Riffraff from Rocky Horror.

5:38

But then and then when it gets serious, he braids it.

5:41

And then Dave

5:41

Franco has this rat tail is Oh,

5:45

I got the hair

5:46

and the pornstache Yeah.

5:49

But it is

5:49

it's more of like a like you

5:52

said it's a NEO Noir. And it's

5:52

and it's like a revenge

5:55

thriller. But um oh my god, it's

5:55

so good. And the thing is, it's

6:00

funny because it kind of it I

6:00

mean, it explores like domestic

6:04

violence and steroid abuse like

6:04

these serious issues, but it's

6:08

always got kind of this dark

6:08

humor to it. And, and Jenna

6:12

Malone and Kristen Stewart play

6:12

perfect sisters. They're like

6:16

yo, when you look at Janet

6:16

Malone you're like oh you know

6:19

or when you look at Kristen

6:19

Stewart yeah you know she looks

6:22

like she could actually be Jenna

6:22

Melone's sister in the in this

6:27

but um if you thought the ending

6:27

I'm not gonna spoil anything but

6:31

if you thought the ending to

6:31

Saint Maud was like weird just

6:35

wait until you see the ending to this Jaw dropper we it

6:41

like borders on the absurd.

6:41

You're just like either, and

6:44

it's one of those things kind of

6:44

like Saint Maud where you're

6:46

thinking you're like, Okay,

6:46

you're seeing this from the

6:50

point of view of one of the

6:50

characters and you don't realize

6:53

it until that point. But yeah,

6:53

it's oh my god Love Lies

6:57

Bleeding. So good. Correia, you

6:57

have to see it. You're gonna

7:00

love it.

7:00

Yeah, you know

7:00

if you're a case do fan this

7:03

one's for you. And she makes a

7:03

great pair with the extremely

7:08

ripped and actually ripped Katie

7:08

O'Brien. First

7:11

of all, what

7:11

makes you think this isn't like

7:14

my most anticipated film of the

7:14

year? Just because I haven't

7:17

seen it yet. That's not due to

7:17

lack of wanting I mean, first of

7:22

all, give me all the like,

7:22

aggressive and lesbian action

7:26

crime movies. This is we're

7:26

living in a renaissance between

7:29

Bottoms this and Drive-Away

7:29

Dolls. It's what a great what a

7:33

great age to live in. And yeah,

7:33

it's literally just like I

7:38

physically haven't left this

7:38

chair in like a week. So I will

7:43

be seeing it. I trust me. It's

7:43

up there Rose Glass. I will

7:46

watch anything and everything

7:46

she makes after Saint Maud.

7:50

Yeah, one of my

7:50

favorite reviews was from a

7:52

friend saying that Love Lies

7:52

Bleeding is the kind of movie

7:55

the characters from Bottoms

7:55

would be obsessed with.

7:58

So that's a

7:58

great review. That's a great

8:00

review. Man. As

8:02

for me, I've

8:02

managed to see some premiere

8:05

horror movies in the last week.

8:05

I think most prominently. I got

8:10

to go to the Alamo pre screening

8:10

for Late Night with the Devil

8:15

with David Dastmalchian. Ooh,

8:18

out. Yeah. But

8:18

did it live up to the hype?

8:21

Is that the talk show?

8:22

Yeah, that's a

8:22

talk show one. Yeah. So

8:25

basically, it's about this kind

8:25

of lost in fictional late night

8:31

talk show from the 70s called

8:31

Night Owls. And David

8:35

Dastmalchian, plays the host and

8:35

he's dealing with a ratings war

8:39

with the Tonight Show and he's,

8:39

and he's trying to think of ways

8:42

to boost the ratings. So on

8:42

Halloween night, in late 70s, he

8:46

does a Halloween special where

8:46

he has on these guests,

8:49

including a psychic, a

8:49

paranormal investigator and does

8:53

prover and a psychologist with a

8:53

patient who claims to be

8:58

possessed by a demon. And it

8:58

goes off the rails. Is

9:05

it like? Is

9:05

it presented like like a found

9:08

VHS tape? Yeah,

9:09

it's kind of a

9:09

mockumentary found footage, like

9:12

the impetuses that it's like the

9:12

last master tape that was dug

9:16

the master

9:16

tape. I was wondering if they

9:16

up. Okay, did fake commercials, like WNUF?

9:18

No,

9:20

no, they didn't

9:20

do commercials. Although the

9:23

other the interesting thing is,

9:23

is that you know, they have the

9:25

stuff on the main show, but also

9:25

they show this kind of behind

9:28

the scenes footage during the

9:28

making of the show, you know, in

9:32

between in between the segments,

9:32

so you kind of see them, people

9:35

acting on and off camera. And,

9:35

you know this I really hope that

9:40

this boosts David Dastmalchian

9:40

because he really does have

9:44

leading man energy and like he's

9:44

very charismatic in this as the

9:49

host. So, you know, it's yeah,

9:49

it's it's definitely a horror

9:54

comedy and it is a little bit in

9:54

line with stuff like WNUF,

9:58

because it has kind of, you

9:58

know, the 70's talk show kitsch

10:01

with like, good jokes and bits.

10:01

But when the horror hits and it

10:05

was very unexpectedly caught me

10:05

off guard a bunch, it hits so

10:09

yeah, I really dug it, I'd

10:09

highly recommend

10:12

it when they when it was first announced, I think they released a poster or

10:13

something. I was it just felt

10:17

like, this is the perfect

10:17

showcase for David Dastmalchian.

10:19

And like that dude has been

10:19

like, needing, like a vehicle to

10:23

like truly show off because he

10:23

always shines and everything he

10:26

does. So that's very, that's

10:26

very awesome to have something

10:30

that like, like, gives him that

10:30

opportunity. I'm excited for

10:33

that one too. Yeah, I

10:34

am too. I'm,

10:34

I'm a sucker for, like, lost

10:38

media movies like that, you

10:38

know, like, you know, Ghostwatch

10:42

kind of, you know, you know,

10:42

found footage kind of stuff. So

10:45

and especially if it's done

10:45

creatively, which it sounds like

10:48

this. This isn't just and two

10:48

years later, we found on tape.

10:51

You know,

10:53

it's a lot

10:53

deeper than that. Yeah, no,

10:55

I'm, I'm

10:55

excited for this one.

10:57

And on my on

10:57

my business trip, I read a lot

11:00

of that Satanic Panic book.

11:00

Dude, it's crazy. And they have

11:04

a whole segment about Giraldo

11:04

Rivera and like his say, his

11:10

Satanic Panic special and all

11:10

that stuff. So I'm like, I'm

11:13

like ready to go in there. Not

11:13

nitpick but I love to. I love to

11:16

read stuff like that. It's a

11:16

really great book. And that

11:19

opening essay about Michelle

11:19

Remembers and regression therapy

11:22

is incredible. I actually just

11:22

watched a very bad episode of

11:27

Star Trek Voyager where they

11:27

were critiquing regression

11:29

therapy that was very weird.

11:29

Yeah, it was like a me too

11:35

Episode only a was to go against

11:35

regression there. It wasn't

11:39

handled well. Brian Fuller could

11:39

have done better. It was one of

11:44

his episodes. But yeah, anyways,

11:44

this isn't a Star Trek podcast

11:47

Correia stop it. But

11:49

anyway, ya know,

11:49

just it does play a bit into the

11:53

Satanic Panic in the late 70s.

11:53

So it it I mean, it's it's draws

11:57

from a lot of culture and horror

11:57

and stuff at that time because

12:02

you know, it's a period film,

12:02

but ya know, is solidly made, I

12:07

would recommend it very

12:09

excited. Do we

12:09

know if it's going to like

12:11

Shudder or is

12:14

it will be a

12:14

shutter release. They did the

12:16

pre screening last week. And

12:16

then it's getting a run at Alamo

12:19

starting? Thursday.

12:21

Thursday. Hell

12:21

yeah. Well, so it'll be out when

12:24

this episode comes out. So

12:24

definitely go check it out.

12:26

Yeah, it's getting rave reviews right now.

12:28

Hell yeah.

12:28

Either way. It's out there. And

12:31

yeah, you know, definitely go in

12:31

as blind as possible. It's very

12:35

surprising.

12:36

Yeah, I

12:36

haven't been able to go out to

12:39

theaters as we're showing so far

12:39

right now with this episode. But

12:43

I did finally get to watch my 4K

12:43

of Hackers and let me tell you a

12:47

shout factory did an amazing job

12:47

with that transfer. packers has

12:51

never looked and sounded so

12:51

good. And what a beautiful film

12:56

that cuz I had to show Lindsay

12:56

because I've been shouting hack

13:00

the world at her anytime

13:00

computer comes up for years now.

13:04

And so to finally show her the

13:04

amazingness of like, what 1995

13:10

How that view of the world was

13:10

with the cyber stuff between

13:13

Strange Days, Johnny Mnemonic,

13:13

and Hackers it's just it's a

13:18

really special film it truly is.

13:18

And it makes me wish that there

13:21

was more rollerblading in movies

13:21

because there just isn't enough

13:25

rollerblading in movies did

13:28

you bring

13:28

your rollerblades I literally go

13:30

no where without them

13:31

I mean Fisher

13:31

Stevens is is fucking incredible

13:37

as The Plague what a great

13:37

villain What Why are villains so

13:42

serious these days? Like I mean

13:42

like he was serious he was very

13:46

serious about what he was doing

13:46

or too series about what he was

13:50

doing because it was a

13:50

ridiculous being but like I

13:53

think with this viewing the the

13:53

biggest shocker to me was is Ko

14:00

hurt cool cohort to Fisher

14:00

Stevens was Alberta Watson in it

14:06

with blonde hair. She was the

14:06

therapist in The Sopranos and

14:11

she's really really really good

14:11

in the Sopranos. And she is not

14:16

great in this movie at all. It

14:16

was really weird seeing like

14:20

because in the Sopranos she's

14:20

really good at doing like stone

14:23

face and like little and showing

14:23

like little breaks and emotion

14:26

and stuff. And so for her to try

14:26

to do over the top in Hackers a

14:30

just a it was brilliant. It was

14:30

bad but it was brilliant. Yeah

14:34

Hackers again it's incredible.

14:34

As always Scream and Shout

14:40

factory did a great 4K So we

14:40

have a 4K player and you don't

14:43

own Hackers you're fucking up.

14:43

I'm just gonna say I got another

14:47

premiere I went

14:47

to I wanted to discuss have

14:51

either of you've you've seen the

14:51

movie, Lake Michigan Monster.

14:57

But you've already got my attention being the big cryptid fan. Then I

14:59

have, yeah,

15:01

well, I mean

15:01

that well, that was an event.

15:03

This is the thing. It was the

15:03

previous movie to the movie I

15:05

wanted to bring up called

15:05

Hundreds of Beavers

15:09

I have heard

15:09

of this

15:12

Please tell me that the title is not a metaphor.

15:15

No, no, it is

15:15

literally about Hundreds of

15:18

Beavers. Yeah. It's so basically

15:18

yeah, like Michigan Monster was

15:24

kind of like throwback comedy

15:24

movie because it is about this

15:28

sea captain trying to kill the

15:28

Lake Monster of Lake Michigan.

15:33

Even has a sea shanty, and those

15:33

same filmmakers, Mike Cheslik

15:38

and Ryland Brickson Cole Tews.

15:38

They made this movie over the

15:43

last few years it like it

15:43

actually took them over four

15:47

years. It's called Hundreds of

15:47

Beavers. It takes place in the

15:51

19th century. And it's about

15:51

this apple. And this Applejack

15:54

farmer, you know, this guy that

15:54

makes apple cider and hard

15:58

cider. And his apple farm is

15:58

destroyed by a rogue beaver. So

16:04

he's lost everything. So he

16:04

decides to become a fur trapper.

16:08

And so he has to fight this

16:08

scourge of hundreds and hundreds

16:12

of beavers that are rampaging

16:12

through the forest and chopping

16:15

down all the trees. And it is

16:15

just one of the funniest movies

16:20

I've seen in years like in

16:20

within the first five minutes

16:22

alone, there was a scene that

16:22

made me laugh so hard. I cried.

16:26

Are

16:26

the beavers the bad guys in it?

16:29

Yeah, pretty

16:29

much. And the thing is that it's

16:34

all for one thing. It's all

16:34

black and white. It's most it's

16:37

like a silent movie. Like nobody

16:37

really talks. And the beavers

16:41

and raccoons, skunks and other

16:41

animals are all people in these

16:45

kind of mascot costumes. So like

16:45

there's like there's like

16:50

wrestling moves and beavers

16:50

getting shot out of cannons or

16:54

like thrown with catapults. So

16:54

it's just like beaver carnage

17:00

extravaganza. And, like there's

17:00

a lot of green screening and

17:04

after effects that again, makes

17:04

it feel like a live action

17:07

cartoon. So there's just like

17:07

room for so much slapstick and

17:11

the Fur Trapper gets his ass

17:11

beat by raccoons and birds and

17:17

other animals. So it's like a

17:17

lot of back and forth. But

17:22

I predict

17:22

people are going to go to this

17:24

movie on acid in droves. Yeah,

17:24

that's

17:27

definitely one

17:27

way to do it. But I mean, I was

17:30

sober and it's still felt like,

17:30

I don't know, like I was

17:34

watching a movie from an

17:34

alternate universe where silent

17:37

films never stopped. So it was

17:37

just kind of like a modern

17:40

comedy with that kind of old

17:40

school aesthetic. And it also

17:43

had a lot of video game

17:43

influences too, because like,

17:45

there's this whole thing where

17:45

like, the fur trapper is trying

17:50

to get supplies from the

17:50

salesman, it's kind of like a

17:52

Legend of Zelda or Mario thing

17:52

where he has to collect certain

17:55

items in order to craft other

17:55

items like he has to get a

17:59

certain amount of beaver pelts

17:59

in order to get a baseball or

18:02

sorry, a club to kill more

18:02

beavers so that he can get more

18:07

pelts so that you can get more

18:07

items. And also because he's

18:12

starting to have a thing for the

18:12

merchants daughter. So there's a

18:17

whole subplot there. But yeah, a

18:17

lot of it is just like beavers,

18:21

and all these other animals

18:21

getting blown up or thrown

18:27

across the horizon. Again, it's

18:27

just is one of the funniest

18:32

slapstick comedies I've seen in

18:32

a long time. Although there is

18:35

like some scenes of horror,

18:35

because like, there's, like when

18:38

the night falls, there's like

18:38

other nastier animals that start

18:43

tracking them down. He's Uh, ya

18:43

know, it's a lot of fun. Like,

18:47

it's got a limited run right

18:47

now. With when we know Whoa, and

18:50

like they're putting the movie

18:50

on tour. I can't remember

18:53

exactly how far but yeah, it's I

18:53

think, I think it's a self

18:56

distributed movie. So hopefully,

18:56

yeah, it's still it's a it's

19:01

doing the limited run, but

19:01

hopefully it should get a main

19:04

release soon. But yeah, I can't

19:04

recommend it enough. It is

19:08

insanely funny.

19:10

I hope it gets

19:10

hundreds of screenings.

19:13

We can only

19:13

hope. Have you guys heard of a

19:16

movie called Come and See?

19:18

Oh, I know that one.

19:19

Have you seen it?

19:21

Not yet. But I

19:21

know it's reputation. Yeah,

19:24

that's what

19:24

it has a criterion release. And

19:28

the last few years. It's kind of

19:28

like you said, the reputation

19:32

it's been, it's from I think 87

19:32

Maybe 85. But it's from the 80s

19:36

and it's basically about a kid

19:36

who he lives in. He's He's

19:41

Russian. And he kind of joins

19:41

the resistance to the to the

19:46

Nazis. And he he's like 14, so

19:46

he's way too young to be you

19:52

know, fighting Nazis, but you

19:52

know, I guess what else do you

19:56

do when your village is you

19:56

know, being pillaged? Um, And

20:00

it's basically about the

20:00

atrocities of, of the war. I

20:04

mean, the reason it's got its

20:04

reputation is people have been

20:07

saying like on the internet,

20:07

they're, like all the scariest

20:09

horror movie ever isn't even a

20:09

horror movie, you know, and, and

20:13

I wouldn't go that far, it's not

20:13

really scary, so much as it is

20:16

just disturbing. There's, you

20:16

know, there's a lot of, of

20:21

atrocities of war. And probably

20:21

the most memorable bit about it

20:25

is he meets this girl, and they

20:25

go back to his house. And this

20:29

happens fairly early in the movie. So this isn't really spoiling anything. It's just

20:31

kind of a taste of what kind of,

20:34

you know, a movie, this is they,

20:34

he goes back to his house, and

20:38

there's no one there, like, his

20:38

family is not there. So they

20:42

kind of go, he's like, I know

20:42

where they are. So they start

20:44

walking away from the house. And

20:44

the girl like, looks back and he

20:48

doesn't look back, but the girl

20:48

looks back. And there's just

20:51

piles and piles of bodies piled

20:51

up against the back of the house

20:55

that she sees as they're going

20:55

by and you're like, Okay, this

20:58

movie means business now, it's,

20:58

it's a it's a it's a crazy way

21:04

it has a Criterion release. I

21:04

don't know where it where else

21:07

you can get it maybe it's on the

21:07

Criterion channel. I'm not sure

21:11

where you can find it streaming

21:11

lies, but but it has a Criterion

21:14

release. And it's it's quite an

21:14

eye opener. It's pretty powerful

21:17

movie. Yeah,

21:18

that that that

21:18

cover for the Criterion release

21:21

is very haunting and has been

21:21

one where I'd never it's one of

21:24

those like, like the old video

21:24

store days where you see a cover

21:27

and you're like, I want to know

21:27

more about that. But they didn't

21:30

you never do so like yeah, I've

21:30

never known more about that

21:33

movie outside of its cover. So yeah, very cover

21:36

is just is

21:36

just the kid's face. But he's

21:39

completely shell shocked, which

21:39

is kind of how the viewer looks

21:42

to when you're seeing this

21:42

stuff. Especially through the

21:44

lens of this 14 year old kid.

21:44

You're like, holy crap, you know

21:48

this kid. He has to grow up

21:48

fast. Yeah,

21:51

I mean, for me

21:51

the most disturbing horror film

21:55

that's not even a horror film.

21:55

It's a it's a war movie. It's

21:58

still Threads, Threads is

21:58

fucking Oh, yeah. Yeah, that

22:03

that that third act,

22:05

my most

22:05

disturbing movie. It's not a

22:07

horror movie is still Compliance.

22:09

Yeah, no, see

22:09

me. I was gonna say that. That's

22:12

the one that did for me that

22:12

that movie fucked me up.

22:14

It's it's

22:14

just so and it only becomes a

22:17

horror movie. When you realize

22:17

it's real. You know that this

22:20

this shit really happened. And

22:20

if you watch there, I think I

22:22

brought it up a while ago.

22:22

There's a documentary on Netflix

22:26

called Don't Answer the Phone,

22:26

which talks about the real

22:29

story. And the real story is

22:29

pretty close to what happened in

22:32

compliance. So that makes it

22:32

even more dirty of a movie.

22:37

Although back on

22:37

Horror And also found footage I

22:40

also saw a new horror movie for

22:40

VOD called Frogman Have either

22:45

of you heard of it? I saw a

22:45

post. Yeah, I heard about it

22:49

through the internet grapevine

22:49

to I don't remember who

22:52

specifically but ya know, it

22:52

just sounded interesting. It's

22:57

basically it has kind of the

22:57

basic found footage type setup

23:02

where it's like this guy at at

23:02

amature filmmaker, when he was a

23:09

kid, he got footage of a local

23:09

cryptid named Frogman. So he

23:16

years later, he decides to go

23:16

back to where he to where he saw

23:22

it, in order to try and get real

23:22

footage and to try and prove it

23:26

is in fact, like a real

23:26

creature. And he drags along

23:31

some friends and they go to this

23:31

small town where the everybody's

23:36

kind of cashing in on frogman

23:36

fever with like, merchandise and

23:40

shops and stuff. And the cool

23:40

thing is that he decides to use

23:46

the same video camera that he

23:46

originally got the Florida

23:50

frogman as a kid in the 90s. So

23:50

it is filmed in a analog

23:56

fashion. But ya know it when

23:56

they went into some pretty

24:00

unexpected directions, and it

24:00

did have some really amazing

24:06

effects for a movie with this

24:06

definitely felt like a bit of a

24:11

low budget affair. And yes, by

24:11

Anthony cousins, it's Yeah, on

24:18

VOD now, so I rented it. And I

24:18

liked it so much. I bought a VHS

24:22

version from lunchmeat like the

24:22

VHS distributor. Yeah, so if

24:30

you'd like found footage is

24:30

definitely your kind of gym.

24:33

Lunch me VHS

24:33

does such great work. I have a

24:37

few of their releases including

24:37

We're All Going to the World's

24:40

Fair. Oh yeah. Heavy Metal

24:40

Parking Lot. That VHS tape is so

24:45

good.

24:46

Only way to

24:46

own Heavy Metal Parking Lot.

24:49

I got the blu ray too, but you know gotta cover my bases same

24:53

Exactly. And

24:53

also Strawberry Mansion. I'm

24:56

still surprised that hasn't

24:56

gotten a release. I think it's a

24:58

music box selection. A

24:58

distributed title. That's a

25:03

that's one that Dan Deacon

25:03

scored, which is an amazing

25:06

score, of course. I mean, it's

25:06

Dan Deacon. about it. I

25:09

really got to check it out.

25:11

That one's

25:11

fantastic. It's it's on VOD, so

25:13

you can get it on like, Vudu and

25:13

stuff, but like yeah, for some

25:17

reason like, as far as physical

25:17

media I can only find that on

25:21

that lunchmeat VHS so fingers

25:21

crossed someday we'll see.

25:25

Alright frogmen

25:25

was good time if you're still

25:31

down for more found footage,

25:34

it checks off

25:34

two of the boxes for me I found

25:37

footage and cryptids so yeah,

25:37

man got both

25:39

in spades. Oh,

25:39

also I got to see an early

25:43

screening of The Primevals you

25:43

know the lost Full Moon

25:47

Entertainment movie Have you

25:47

guys heard about them? Yeah, seeing

25:52

the poster

25:52

for it which looks Oh yeah, it's

25:54

bad. Amazing.

25:56

God Yeti. Yeah

25:56

to have the Yeti because

25:59

didn't they do

25:59

like a lot of like, the effects

26:02

work already and like yeah, it

26:02

was it was like it was like

26:05

something where it's like all

26:05

the stop motion and stuff was

26:07

like mostly done and that but

26:07

they ran out of funding or

26:10

something like Exactly,

26:12

yes. Yeah, they

26:12

filmed the mostly in the early

26:16

90s. And yeah, they and yeah, it

26:16

was just unfinished for a long

26:21

time and they finally I think

26:21

they did an Indiegogo or

26:24

Kickstarter to get the funding

26:24

to properly finish it. And yeah,

26:29

it's a lot of fun is very much a

26:29

Harryhausen throwback because

26:32

it's like the Sherpas kill Yeti.

26:32

The Yeti is putting on exhibited

26:37

Museum in America and the

26:37

scientists decided to go back to

26:39

the Himalayas to try and find

26:39

more of the eddy and it turns

26:43

out there's a whole Lost World

26:43

with like, hominids Bigfoots

26:48

lizard people lost

26:48

civilizations, and good like

26:53

there's no there's so much stop

26:53

motion effects and practical

26:56

effects and they managed to

26:56

really threaded with modern CGI

27:00

that it looks pretty cool. And

27:00

it is great because it is

27:04

perfectly in line with like a

27:04

lot of those full moon pictures

27:07

are even earlier to kind of the

27:07

Empire pictures. They're just

27:11

with these big ideas and like

27:11

lots of practical effects. So I

27:16

really dug it

27:17

sounds like a

27:17

fun Jules Verne esque adventure.

27:21

Oh, without a

27:21

doubt. And also Korea, I think

27:25

you'll appreciate it because

27:25

there there's a lot of Star Trek

27:28

references like at one point a

27:28

character even yells Star Trek

27:31

while pointing out at a

27:31

spaceship.

27:34

Oh, wait, how

27:34

did you know I was in the Star

27:36

Trek.

27:37

Just a guess. I

27:38

suppose I just

27:38

give off that vibe. But just

27:41

give off Trekkie vibes. Yes. He

27:41

says after spending eight hours

27:45

watching three different Star

27:45

Trek shows the day prior. I

27:48

mean, you just

27:48

you just dropped Voyager in our

27:50

last conversation. Yeah, yeah,

27:52

I'm in the

27:52

middle of watching Voyager and

27:55

Discovery catching up before the

27:55

final season. So it's, it's a

27:59

lot

28:02

before we

28:02

move to our topic, let's let's

28:06

discuss the Oscars which

28:06

happened last weekend. First of

28:09

all, we have Oscar winner

28:09

Godzilla Minus One. Yay, which

28:14

is awesome. And they were so

28:14

excited to win that Oscar it was

28:18

so much fun to watch them win

28:18

that and also Zone of Interest

28:22

one best sound which was also

28:22

amazing because the way that the

28:26

guy when he accepted the award

28:26

put it he said I just want to

28:29

thank the Academy for listening

28:29

to our film, because it was up

28:33

against you know, these

28:33

deafening sound movies like

28:36

Mission Impossible Dead

28:36

Reckoning and Oppenheimer and

28:40

the sound in Zone of Interest is

28:40

so subtle, but it makes the

28:44

movie so I was really happy that

28:44

that one Robot Dreams did not

28:48

win. But you know, that's just

28:48

because nobody has seen it yet.

28:51

As you You guys will see Robot

28:51

Dreams is going to come out in

28:55

America later on this year and

28:55

you guys are going to be all the

28:57

academy that that

28:58

roll that was

28:58

a tough fight man. I mean, it

29:01

didn't get as wide of a release

29:01

and it was up against a Studio

29:05

jibley and spider man and it's

29:08

it's a way

29:08

it's a much simpler form of

29:11

animation. It's like 2d You know

29:11

80s animation. So yeah, the

29:17

Robot Dreams people are the only

29:17

ones who supplied a customized

29:21

little graphic to show on the on

29:21

the screen of nominees behind

29:26

them. The robot and the dog are

29:26

wearing tuxes with with bow ties

29:32

and stuff in in their little

29:32

their little panel. I was like,

29:35

Oh man, they should give it to me just for that.

29:38

Which by the

29:38

way, what was what? Like I

29:40

didn't watch I don't watch the

29:40

Oscars I just get the news as

29:43

they come in and stuff but like

29:43

what was there they had a bit

29:46

with the dog clapping know

29:49

that well the

29:49

dog from and there's a whole

29:51

story behind that. But um,

29:51

there's a dog in Anatomy of a

29:55

Fall which was up for it

29:55

actually one Best Original

29:58

Screenplay, but it was For a

29:58

bunch of awards, the director

30:04

was up for Director and it was

30:04

up for Best Picture and the

30:07

actress Sandra Haller, who was

30:07

also in Zone of Interest. She

30:10

was up for Best Actress, but the

30:10

dog Messy. He went to one of the

30:14

Oscar luncheons and he's like a

30:14

really cute, you know,

30:19

personable dog. And I guess some

30:19

of the other some of the other

30:24

producers complain because not

30:24

all Oscar voting was done. And

30:29

they're like, all there. They're

30:29

going to buy votes by having

30:32

this cute dog campaign for them.

30:32

It's like, well, you can have

30:35

your stars there and campaigning

30:35

to but they supposedly banned

30:40

the dog from the ceremony. But

30:40

they walked back on that because

30:44

they let the dog and this dog is

30:44

I mean that she's coming at I

30:48

mean, I cut it. I cut it all

30:48

out. But you guys, you know hear

30:53

my dogs barking all the time

30:53

while we're recording. This dog

30:56

is super well behaved, but they

30:56

would cut to him during the

31:01

ceremony at times and they

31:01

either had fake paws or they

31:04

were moving his paws because

31:04

they show his face or his little

31:07

paws at the bottom. No,

31:09

it was fake paws because I saw a picture of a guy like crouch below and

31:11

you're getting to fake paws on

31:14

sticks to do that. Yeah, but I

31:14

just saw the clip where they're

31:17

like cutting two people clapping

31:17

and also you just see like Ryan

31:20

Gosling just being like, What

31:20

the fuck? Like the dive face of

31:23

the dog lap and

31:24

Ryan Gosling

31:24

stole the whole thing if you

31:27

haven't seen it, just look up

31:27

him doing I am Ken because it

31:33

that musical performance is

31:33

amazing. I mean, it it. There

31:37

are other cans from Barbie there

31:37

and it's a whole production

31:40

number. And about halfway

31:40

through. And this isn't really a

31:43

spoiler because he played on the

31:43

track but slash and Wolfgang Van

31:47

Halen pop out and they're like,

31:47

you know, guitar Doolin and it

31:51

and it was a

31:51

they based it off of Gentlemen

31:51

he was going

31:51

through the audience, passing

31:54

Prefer Blondes, the Marilyn

31:54

Monroe performance to like even

31:58

the backup dancers in the Kens

31:58

were all dressed up like there

31:59

the mic to people. So like, you

31:59

know, Emma Stone and Greta

32:01

was. And Ryan Gosling had like a

32:01

gender flipped pink suit with

32:06

the gloves to like, Yeah, as

32:06

soon as he came out, I was like,

32:09

Are they do Gentlemen Prefer

32:09

Blondes and then sure enough,

32:12

the backup dancers came out with

32:12

the ties. I was like, ah, that's

32:14

that's, that's great. And Gerwig. They all got the single

32:21

line. It's it was it's really

32:24

well. And the other high point

32:24

of the show, was John Cena

32:28

giving the Oscar for Best

32:28

Costume. And he was naked.

32:34

Wait, was that

32:34

John Cena? Because all I saw was

32:36

a floating envelope. You can't

32:36

see. And since I can't see him,

32:41

you can't see me. I'm waving my

32:41

hand. I'm doing John Cena.

32:44

One of my

32:44

favorites was Arnold

32:47

Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito.

32:47

Calling out Michael Keaton is

32:50

Batman since they were both

32:50

Batman villains.

32:53

Yep. And he was there. Michael Keaton was there too.

32:55

He's in the audience. And he was like, Come get it.

32:57

Yeah, first of

32:57

all that this how my evening

33:00

when I was working on the

33:00

podcast, getting the episode

33:02

prepped and all that. And I saw

33:02

Godzilla one. Godzilla minus

33:06

one. One.

33:08

That was the

33:08

award. They gave away the twins

33:10

reunion. But

33:11

But all I saw

33:11

was that it was I was like, Oh,

33:14

that's really cool. And then I

33:14

saw Oh, Schwarzenegger parents

33:17

said today. And so I was like,

33:17

You got to hear Schwarzenegger

33:20

say Godzilla. It's hilarious.

33:20

I'm like, That's great weight

33:22

data to veto section. But there

33:22

was a twitch where you did it.

33:24

And so like, I slowly was

33:24

getting all the information. And

33:27

then someone's like, yeah, they

33:27

made a Batman reference, because

33:29

they were both villains. And they cut the key. And I was like, What the fuck happened?

33:31

Like, basically, that sounded

33:35

like the best moment of the

33:35

night. And for as good as I did

33:39

here, it was a really good

33:39

broadcast, except for once

33:41

again, the memoriam

33:44

was it was

33:44

the memorial was the worst that

33:48

I can remember seeing. Because

33:48

not only did they of course,

33:51

they're always going to forget

33:51

people. And you can kind of

33:53

understand that. But the thing

33:53

is, you couldn't even read the

33:56

people because they were showing

33:56

the dancers and the singers the

34:00

whole time and, and they put the

34:00

slides of the people up in the

34:04

back. And it was only like the

34:04

biggest ones where they leave on

34:06

there for the longest time that

34:06

you could actually read. And

34:09

then they would show like these

34:09

lists where the print was super

34:12

tiny. You're like now? Yes, it's

34:12

like nobody cares about these

34:17

dancers or this and one of the

34:17

singers, there were two singers.

34:21

And one of them was a younger

34:21

guy, and he was terrified. And

34:24

you could tell whenever the camera was on him, he was like super. I mean, he was hitting

34:26

the notes perfectly. He was saying great, but you could tell

34:28

he was super nervous. It's like

34:31

I'll give that guy a break. Let

34:31

him sing his job and just cut to

34:36

you know, show the slides on the

34:36

TV. Yeah, it was the worst in

34:39

memoriam that I can remember

34:39

there being and there have been

34:42

some bad ones. Alright, so now

34:42

about the Oscars that went on

34:46

longer than I thought I was going to be I thought we were just going to congratulate

34:47

Godzilla and Zone of Interest

34:49

and move on to his trip. The

34:49

topic this week we're going to

34:54

talk about and this I'm gonna

34:54

let Correia expound on this

34:57

because it was all his idea, but

34:57

we're gonna talk about our

34:59

favorite Trolls. Yeah, I have to

34:59

admit, I'm not sure if I

35:03

understand this assignment

35:03

because all I'm going to do is

35:06

talk about Justin Timberlake and

35:06

Anna Kendrick. So explain what

35:10

we're doing here. Well, there's

35:11

three reasons

35:11

why. Last episode, we talked

35:14

about the Razzies, which are a

35:14

bunch of internet trolls. And

35:18

while I was in Breckenridge,

35:18

Colorado, I got to meet the

35:20

giant wooden troll. And also, I

35:20

did want to give Jay an

35:25

opportunity to talk about the

35:25

Trolls trilogy and how much he

35:28

loved it. But also, trolls

35:28

fucking rule. I mean, just a

35:33

Trolls are one of those things

35:33

where like, it seems like almost

35:35

every culture has, like, their

35:35

own version of a troll. It's,

35:39

and it's not taught like

35:39

dragons, you know, like, why is

35:42

that there's so many different

35:42

kinds of trolls. Small, big,

35:47

funny, scary. You know, actually

35:47

goblins you know, it's there's

35:54

just such a wide spectrum of

35:54

trolls. I just wanted to take

35:58

some time to celebrate the

35:58

unsung heroes of fantasy and

36:01

horror, which are trolls. So I

36:01

want to kick off this discussion

36:06

with the most terrifying troll

36:06

to ever be on screen. And that's

36:10

Trantor the troll from Ernest

36:10

Scared Stupid. Because Ernest

36:17

Scared Stupid, I saw that as a

36:17

kid, and that is heavy New

36:22

England mythology. It thrives on

36:22

a lot of fears that happen when

36:26

you're a kid growing up in the

36:26

woods of New Hampshire. And that

36:30

movie terrified the shit out of

36:30

me with his three noses and

36:32

everything. I was petrified of

36:32

Trantor and I still haven't

36:38

watched Ernest scared stupid

36:38

since a kid because I'm all set

36:41

with that. You know? We don't

36:41

it's like graveyards at night. I

36:45

don't mess with it. But yeah,

36:45

what what are your what do you

36:48

guys think is the scariest troll

36:48

that you have seen on film? The

36:53

scariest one

36:53

for me. And I know that you're

36:56

you're planning on talking about

36:56

this too. So we'll just rip that

36:58

band aid off. Is the Troll from

36:58

Troll the Netflix movie that

37:04

just a couple years old, which

37:04

directed by the awesomely named

37:08

roar? earthdog Yes. That's the

37:08

most awesome name for the movies

37:15

he makes because he also makes

37:15

you know, The Wave and The

37:18

Quake. You know those Norwegian

37:18

disaster movies?

37:21

Oh, I know

37:21

them. Well. You guys know I love

37:24

those movies.

37:25

But yeah,

37:25

that troll is that because he's

37:27

like a Kaiju kind of troll. And

37:27

he's kind of, I guess he's kind

37:31

of made of stone. He's made of

37:31

like natural material. You know,

37:34

there's part of the movie where

37:34

I think she goes into the

37:37

footprint. She's, there's no

37:37

organic material here. It's all

37:40

dirt and rock. You know, they

37:40

can't get basically any troll

37:44

DNA out of one of the

37:44

footprints. But um, yeah, he's

37:47

like this giant rock kaiju who

37:47

just destroys the shit out of

37:51

Oslo.

37:52

Oh, man, that

37:52

movie fucking rules because it

37:55

really did take like, the

37:55

sensibilities of like these the

37:59

natural disaster movies that

37:59

they would make like The Wave,

38:01

The Quake, and The Burning Sea?

38:01

And when? How do we make a Kaiju

38:06

film like this? And so it

38:06

harkens a lot back to Godzilla

38:10

when Godzilla is treated like a

38:10

natural disaster. Only this time

38:14

it's it's a massive, massive

38:14

troll and I can't wait for the

38:18

sequel. Oh, man. Obviously it

38:18

was a guy that

38:21

now that the sequel is in production, though, right?

38:23

I mean, it is.

38:23

I'm so excited. Yeah, I can't

38:26

wait. Did you guys know that was

38:26

one of my top films with that

38:29

year. Yeah.

38:30

Yeah, I really got to watch that. It's still on my to do list. Oh,

38:34

dude, you're gonna love it. You're gonna love it. Jacob. Jacob, what was your

38:36

scariest troll? Well,

38:41

again, this is more a matter of personal opinion. But I was really

38:43

creeped out by the Troll from

38:47

the original Empire pictures.

38:47

Troll movie by John Karl beekler

38:53

Torok

38:54

that was Sonny

38:54

Bono. And it has a character

38:56

named Harry Potter in it. And

38:58

Harry Potter Jr.

38:58

Yes. Harry Potter senior played

39:01

by Michael Moriarty from Q the

39:01

Winged Serpent. Yeah, no, it's

39:05

weird movie. But ya know, this

39:05

is something really creepy about

39:09

that troll in particular is

39:09

especially because like he's,

39:12

you know, like, turns people

39:12

into lay elf people and nimcet

39:16

Yeah, turns Julia Louis Dreyfus

39:16

into a forest name. Which she,

39:21

which she played the footage of

39:21

on her last appearance on

39:25

Saturday Night Live. So it was

39:25

pretty fun. But ya know, I mean,

39:28

like John Carl beekler has

39:28

effects really helped sell it

39:30

because it's all these little

39:30

practical effects. weird little

39:35

monster people. And yeah, it's

39:35

like Torok the troll trying to

39:40

bring back his troll fantasy

39:40

worlds. They turns everybody

39:42

else into trolls and forest

39:42

creatures and stuff. So yeah,

39:47

it's a it's a weird little guy.

39:51

It's worth

39:51

noting that this movie is from I

39:53

think it's 1986 86 Yeah, when

39:53

they have a character named

39:58

Harry Potter JK Rowling ripping

39:58

them off. Oh,

40:03

oh, sweetie

40:03

you don't want to go down that

40:06

hole because there's a Neil

40:06

Gaiman story that you look at

40:12

the cover and you're like yeah,

40:12

anyway. But no, I mean what?

40:19

Yeah, that it's such a fun movie

40:19

and that weird that weird song

40:24

they do and it's like mushroom

40:24

singing and stuff man

40:26

and the little

40:26

goblins and trolls and stuff

40:33

like that.

40:35

Oh man. Yeah,

40:35

no, the original Troll is really

40:38

incredible and it's sequel,

40:38

which we can't really talk that

40:42

much about because even though

40:42

it's called troll two it's not a

40:46

single fucking troll in the

40:46

movie. Yeah, because

40:49

it's Nilbog it's

40:49

goblin spelled backwards this is

40:52

their kingdom title

40:54

only but still

40:54

one of the one of the all time

40:57

greats

40:58

Troll 2

40:58

actually holds the title they

41:01

say of the best worst movie and

41:01

I think there's was it a behind

41:05

the scenes or

41:06

was that

41:06

documentary? Yeah. Michael

41:09

Stephenson, the guy who was it

41:09

who played the kid in Troll 2

41:12

made a documentary years later

41:12

about kind of the cult effect it

41:16

had and I'm actually in that

41:16

documentary because they did a

41:20

segment at a screening of Troll

41:20

2 at the Brattle Theatre in

41:24

Boston in like 2006 or something

41:24

and this was when Troll 2 fever

41:28

was at an all time high or maybe

41:28

you've observed but anyway yeah,

41:32

so I so you can see me in the

41:32

audience when they're talking to

41:37

everybody. And they actually had

41:37

like some of the stars of the

41:41

movie do a round of Guitar Hero

41:41

2 because there's a Nilbog level

41:46

and you can add and also like

41:46

there's a big group hug with

41:49

like, the guy that played the

41:49

dad and like I'm one of the guys

41:53

in the group hug with them.

41:54

Between this

41:54

and your appearance on Nick

41:57

Arcade? We've got some

42:01

No, we're not

42:01

doing this again because it

42:04

appears when we had a previous

42:04

recording I think it was off

42:07

recording Jacob said that he

42:07

appeared on Nick Arcade at which

42:11

of Nick Arcade is on Paramount

42:11

plus and I wasted an entire

42:16

fucking morning Oh my combing

42:16

through the episodes trying to

42:21

find young Jacob in it and I

42:21

have still yet to find him. So

42:25

I'm putting out a wanted if you

42:25

can find Jacob in an episode of

42:28

Nick Arcade or Best Worst Movie,

42:28

I will I will send yourself that

42:33

cool.

42:34

I actually

42:34

went while you were doing that

42:37

Correia I went to see any

42:37

similar shows just in case he

42:40

had the show name. You know,

42:40

maybe it wasn't Nick Arcade? It

42:44

might have been one of those

42:44

other game shows about arcade

42:48

games and I couldn't find

42:48

anything there either. So yeah,

42:51

we're still on the hunt. Yeah, I

42:53

gotta I gotta

42:53

ask my folks because again, you

42:55

gotta keep in mind I was like

42:55

not even 10 years old when when

42:58

I did that. So I need like a

42:58

reminder like maybe my folks

43:03

will remember better but I am in

43:03

Best Worst Movie I mean, like

43:06

only for like a scene so it's

43:06

not even that prominent but you

43:09

know it I am in there. Although

43:09

if you want to see me really in

43:14

the background is something you

43:14

can see me in the background for

43:17

Digging Up the Marrow. The Adam

43:17

green found footage mockumentary

43:21

type movie at assigning with

43:21

Cain hotter. Wow, that is very

43:25

prominent.

43:26

We're not

43:26

saying Jacob's lie. We're not

43:29

accusing. Oh, we're just saying

43:29

he's

43:32

there. We

43:32

just we think the details are

43:34

missing. And that's what we're

43:34

trying to piece together are

43:36

it's a minute sleuthing,

43:38

these these

43:38

rabbit holes are dangerous, and

43:40

I have too much stuff to do.

43:42

I didn't force

43:42

your hand. I didn't force your

43:45

hand.

43:45

But they but yeah, instilled the need instilled the want. And so, and

43:46

thank you for reminding me

43:50

because I do need to continue.

43:50

Nick arcade.

43:54

Oh, boy. Anywho

43:57

you're binging Nick Arcade.

44:00

trolls, TROLLS

44:00

that are in movies? Yeah.

44:04

Yeah, well, it's

44:04

not exactly a troll. But again,

44:10

it's St. Patrick's Day. And I

44:10

was at the midnight show. So I

44:12

would I would like to mention

44:12

Leprechaun. That that was a lot

44:17

of fun. And, you know this. I

44:17

mean, it's again, not exactly a

44:21

troll, but I mean, it's, you

44:21

know, an evil leprechaun, so I

44:24

feel like it kind of fits that mold.

44:26

I'm gonna fight you on that. It doesn't count. That's a leprechaun.

44:28

That's different. That's I know,

44:32

I know. Because

44:33

leprechauns

44:33

are imaginary. And Trolls are

44:35

real that would say that.

44:38

That is a big difference right there.

44:40

And the proof

44:40

is in the very real documentary

44:43

called Troll Hunter. All right.

44:46

Very real

44:46

documentary. Yes, that is not

44:49

gonna put anything on Netflix.

44:49

It isn't true, right

44:51

Troll Hunter.

44:51

Which, I mean, I you everyone

44:54

well let me ask

44:54

you guys this. Do you prefer

44:54

knows that I'm not the biggest

44:54

fan of found footage films but

44:58

Troll Hunter from 2010 is what

44:58

are the best. I remember we

45:02

showed that at the theater that

45:02

I was a projectionist, and I sat

45:06

in the crowd for the first time.

45:06

And I compared it to being a kid

45:10

again and watching Jurassic Park

45:10

on the big screen just the

45:14

fakeness the wonder of it the

45:14

the world building of like what

45:18

these trolls are and the

45:18

different kinds of choices you

45:21

get like five or six different

45:21

kinds of trolls in that movie,

45:22

your trolls like kgs sized

45:22

larger than average? Or like,

45:25

including ones that fart and

45:25

it's amazing. So yeah, you want

45:29

you want the best troll movie

45:29

out there. I'm gonna give it to

45:33

Troll Hunter I think that one

45:33

handled the mythology handled

45:37

the spectacle of it and grounded

45:37

in reality in such wonderful

45:41

ways. And it's, it's, it's yeah,

45:41

it's a blast. I think it's on

45:45

peacock and like a bunch of

45:45

other things. But it's

45:48

definitely on Tubi because of

45:48

course it's not to be

45:52

everything's on Tubi and little, little tiny troll sized?

46:04

Like we know Jay's answer.

46:05

I prefer them

46:05

little tiny troll size. And not

46:08

only that, I prefer them

46:08

animated. And this is what a

46:12

curry is waiting for. I love the

46:12

Trolls animated movies. They're

46:18

based on those troll dolls from

46:18

like the 80s with the like

46:22

fucked up hair. But I love those

46:22

those movies and there's there's

46:26

nothing horror about them. So

46:26

I'm not going to spend too much

46:29

time on him. But if you haven't

46:29

seen him, I whenever I watch

46:32

these movies, and it's always

46:32

around awards, voting time I get

46:34

sent a screener. I've never

46:34

actually gone to a theater and

46:37

seen one. But um, I'll be you

46:37

know, in one room just cracking

46:42

up laughing and my wife will

46:42

come in and she'll be like, What

46:44

are you watching? That's making

46:44

you laugh so much. I'm all

46:46

that's a Trolls Movie. The way

46:46

they use music and the way you

46:50

know, and the two main trolls

46:50

are Justin Timberlake and Anna

46:54

Kendrick, who are both amazing

46:54

singers. So I mean, you have the

46:59

way they use music is just

46:59

amazing. And these movies and

47:02

they're hysterical. They just

47:02

they crack me up. They kill me.

47:06

I have so much fun with them.

47:06

Anyway, so yeah, I prefer my

47:09

trolls animated and tiny.

47:11

I mean, I

47:11

haven't seen those movies. But

47:13

that first one has that one fire

47:13

song. You know, what is it? The

47:18

Dance Dance Dance one? That's a

47:18

that's a that's a banger?

47:22

The newest

47:22

one has inSync Renuion.

47:27

I'm Eric Andre.

47:27

Eric

47:29

Andre plays

47:29

one of Justin Timberlake. his

47:31

character's name is branch. He

47:31

it turns out he was in a boy

47:35

band when he was a baby. And

47:35

Eric Andre is one of his

47:38

brothers.

47:40

Yeah, see if

47:40

it was a reunion of the of Josie

47:42

and the Pussycats? I would I

47:42

would be more excited or

47:45

don't even get me started. Josie and the Pussycats is in my top 10 All

47:47

time I think I've already

47:51

covered that. I loved Josie and

47:51

the Pussycats. But

47:54

for me when it

47:54

comes to trolls I mean my you're

47:57

talking size wise, I gotta go

47:57

big. I mean, they don't have to

48:01

be kaiju size I appreciate it

48:01

when they are I love it when

48:04

they are. But I mean the classic

48:04

Billy. Billy Goat guff type

48:10

troll under a bridge where

48:10

they're like these big menacing

48:13

things, but they're also a

48:13

little like Billy Goat Gruff

48:16

like you know you got to go to

48:16

you. They're a little sassy you

48:20

know when they're when they're

48:20

about that size you know you're

48:23

venturing into It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia territory with the

48:25

the date that night man cometh

48:31

gold at church roll toe Yeah,

48:31

and Danny DeVito plays the role

48:36

and he's all you got to pay the

48:36

troll toll if you want to get

48:39

this boy's whole well

48:40

I'm sorry What do you say? No

48:43

it's so boys

48:43

soul soul that's what I'm saying

48:46

boys whole

48:47

so good. But

48:47

no I mean Troll Hunter even had

48:51

a troll under the bridge and it

48:51

was brilliant because they had

48:54

like a goat on the bridge to be

48:54

bait and then like the Troll

48:57

Hunter comes out in like this

48:57

like fucking like Knight armor

49:01

meets Iron Man shoddy put

49:01

together thing and then he just

49:04

gets absolutely like just wailed

49:04

on and thrown around. It's

49:08

great. But like those those type

49:08

of trolls are great. I mean,

49:13

Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters

49:13

had a great troll bit where the

49:19

troll was made to look like he

49:19

was going to be evil and bad and

49:22

all this stuff, but then he ends

49:22

up helping them out and he had

49:24

some of the gnarliest death

49:24

scenes just like tearing people

49:27

apart and squishing them and stuff.

49:29

Yeah, and played

49:29

by Friday the 13th 2009 is Derek

49:32

Mears.

49:33

That's right

49:33

yeah. Oh man it's

49:36

one of my

49:36

favorite parts about I think is

49:38

it it's either Hatchet 3 or

49:38

Victor Crowley Kane Hodder gets

49:42

killed Derek me attached

49:44

to three Yeah.

49:48

If you know you know. Yeah,

49:50

that's great.

49:51

Yeah. But ya

49:51

know, I mean, I I'm always down

49:54

for more actionized trolls

49:54

because like in the original

49:57

Lord of the Rings fellowship of

49:57

the Rings You know when they

50:00

find that cave troll?

50:02

Oh, of course

50:02

the cave troll Lord of the

50:04

Rings. First of all, I, one of

50:04

the great things about, you

50:09

know, the Lord of the Rings

50:09

universe is the stark difference

50:12

between Hobbit and Lord of the

50:12

Rings because the Hobbit is a

50:15

fun fantasy. Not light read, but

50:15

it's definitely its tone is much

50:20

more fun, right than Lord of The

50:20

Lord of the Rings is an epic,

50:24

but you see the big difference

50:24

in how they treat trolls because

50:27

in Lord of the Rings, The Cave

50:27

troll is menacing. It's huge and

50:30

scary, right? But in The Hobbit

50:30

you have the three trolls

50:33

they're just shooting the shit

50:33

being kind of little bat big

50:36

bastards, you know, just being

50:36

like, Oh, which one are we gonna

50:39

eat, therefore doesn't have

50:39

enough meat on its bones. You

50:41

know, like, I love that type of

50:41

troll. You know, I respect the

50:45

cave troll. I love the cave

50:45

troll, but like the Hobbit

50:48

trolls are where it's at. And

50:48

it's really cool because they

50:51

made the Hobbit movies after

50:51

Lord of the Rings. And if you

50:54

notice when they freeze because

50:54

the sun comes up because Bilbo

50:58

tricks them. They freeze in the

50:58

same position that they are in

51:02

The Lord of the Rings movies.

51:02

When you see them in that one

51:05

scene. It's like almost

51:05

blinking. You miss it. Little

51:07

nod. But yeah, fun stuff. They

51:07

need to be three movies. So two,

51:12

it should have been two movies,

51:12

but I'll get over it someday.

51:17

Someday.

51:18

No, I won't

51:18

actually because I've seen the

51:21

artwork that Guillermo del Toro

51:21

made when he was developing that

51:24

fucking movie. His orcs were

51:24

incredible and insanely detail.

51:27

Okay, I'm sorry. All right, I'll

51:27

bring it up. Harry Potter troll.

51:33

In the first movie, The troll in

51:33

the bathroom. God that CGI? It

51:37

was not good for its time and

51:37

aged even worse. Like that was

51:42

like Lawnmower Man level almost.

51:42

Yeah, the PlayStation two

51:46

version of the troll looked

51:46

better than it did in that

51:49

movie. That's about all I have

51:49

to say about Harry Potter. The

51:53

less said about

51:53

Harry Potter, the better. Except

51:55

the Harry Potter junior and

51:55

senior in Troll.

51:59

Bringing it

51:59

back to Charles band.

52:02

That's our

52:02

that's our preferred trolls. But

52:04

I also will be remissed if we

52:04

don't bring up Border. Which Oh,

52:10

yes.

52:11

Now do you consider her a troll?

52:13

They are shows they said they're trolls.

52:15

They say they're trolls. Okay. Oh, yeah, they're trolls. And it might

52:16

have gotten lost in the

52:18

translation for

52:19

me. Oh, yeah.

52:19

And that's and that's again at

52:22

the the cool thing about with

52:22

anything that's like made up you

52:27

can say whatever you want and

52:27

its real because it's not

52:30

there's no like true. Like thing

52:30

like, you know, it's not like

52:34

fish or you can say oh yeah, now

52:34

fish fly and breathe there. It's

52:37

like, well, no, that's not how

52:37

fish work. But like, when you

52:40

when you're talking about

52:40

fantasy stuff. You know, the

52:42

rules can always be better. You

52:42

can always have like, do

52:45

crucifix. Stop this vampire. No,

52:45

no, not in our version. Wait,

52:49

wait, wait.

52:49

But we already determined that

52:52

trolls are real. Oh,

52:54

but there's

52:54

been some history. There's real

52:56

Charlson, there's fantasy trolls

52:58

because of

52:58

that real documentary troll.

53:00

Right?

53:01

Well, that's

53:01

that's very specific type of

53:04

trolls, right. But there's also

53:04

all these different kinds of

53:07

ones and I think that's what's

53:07

so cool about trolls is that you

53:10

can have like your total control

53:10

so you can have an even in there

53:13

you have your Hobbit trolls and

53:13

then you have your cave trolls.

53:16

But then you can have something

53:16

like Border come out where it's

53:20

another one that's like really

53:20

steeped in realism, but also is

53:23

like just a very horny movie.

53:23

And all you have to know about

53:29

Border is that it's incredible

53:29

and it's extremely horny. It

53:33

doesn't mean that it's erotic.

53:33

It's just a horny movie. But

53:37

it's it's incredible. So yeah,

53:37

if if you're gonna walk away

53:40

from this conversation, going

53:40

what troll movie show I watch.

53:43

It's Troll Hunter. It's Border.

53:43

And it's Ernest Scared Stupid

53:47

for me. What about you guys? Top

53:47

three troll movies.

53:51

Trolls. Here

53:51

they come. Trolls and their back

53:55

and the Goblet of trolls No. i

53:55

My top three Trolls, Trolls

54:02

World Tour and Trolls Band Together.

54:04

Alright, you got

54:04

the full set there. At dammit.

54:09

Um, for me, I'd have to say

54:09

Troll Hunter. Charles band

54:15

Trolls Junko beekler. And Ernest

54:15

Scared Stupid.

54:22

Scared see fit?

54:24

Yeah, I mean, I

54:24

gotta

54:26

Yeah. And not

54:26

to mention, Laika made the

54:28

incredible Boxtrolls. So

54:28

there's, there's, uh,

54:31

oh, yeah, that

54:31

was a good one, too. Basically,

54:34

what

54:34

I'm trying to

54:34

say is trolls rule. Why don't

54:36

people talk about trolls more

54:36

often? You know,

54:39

I think it's

54:39

just that the term trolls just

54:42

been superseded by people acting

54:42

like assholes on the internet.

54:45

I was gonna

54:45

say trolls rule except for the

54:48

more modern version of a troll,

54:48

which is an internet troll.

54:52

Yeah, nobody likes internet trolls.

54:54

thing. Oh,

54:55

actually, that

54:55

reminds me there was that great

54:57

episode of What We Do In The

54:57

Shadows. We're calling Robinson

55:01

got into a tiff with somebody

55:01

online and it turned out it was

55:04

a literal internet troll. Like

55:04

he goes to fight him and that it

55:07

turns out it's this giant is

55:07

trolling and Ali is going to

55:10

kick his ass. So cool.

55:13

What We Do in The SHadows.

55:15

Yeah, that would

55:15

do that. Oh, yeah, they did.

55:20

Yeah, I think if it was like

55:20

Colin Robinson went out to

55:26

Jersey City and yeah, there's

55:26

this troll who has a cell phone

55:30

and is trolling people online.

55:30

But he's a big astral. So when

55:34

they tried to fight me, he beats

55:34

the shit out of them.

55:37

So good.

55:38

So literal

55:38

troll. Okay. All right. Well,

55:42

what are your favorite trolls in

55:42

movies? What did we miss? Let us

55:46

know. And don't troll us. Or

55:46

troll us? I don't know.

55:51

Sometimes we can be amused by

55:51

it. But yeah, let's wrap this

55:54

discussion about trolls up. Our

55:54

theme song is by Restless

55:58

Spirits. So go give them a

55:58

listen. And our artwork is by

56:02

Chris Fisher. So go give him a

56:02

like, you can find us on any of

56:06

the socials under @EyeOnHorror

56:06

or at ihorror.com There's still

56:10

time to vote for the iHorror

56:10

words. At least I think there

56:14

will still be by the time this

56:14

posts. By the time we're

56:17

recording. There is still time.

56:17

But anyway, go vote for the

56:20

iHorror awards. Yeah. And it's

56:20

going to be the best

56:24

international is going to be a

56:24

real dogfight between When Evil

56:28

Lurks and Godzilla minus one. So

56:28

it's gonna need every vote.

56:33

That's

56:34

a hard choice.

56:34

That's it is a tough choice. I

56:37

was sitting there going, yeah.

56:42

I pick

56:42

because also there are two very

56:44

different movies too. Yeah. So I

56:44

mean, it's possible to like both

56:48

of them the same. So yeah, it's

56:48

a toughy. But yeah, go go check

56:53

that out and go major, make your

56:53

voice heard and the iHorror

56:56

Awards, and we will see you in a

56:56

couple of weeks. So for me James

56:59

Jay Edwards.

57:00

I'm Jacob Davison and

57:01

I'm Jonathan Correia.

57:02
