The epic motion of fiinding love in the wrong place is mixed with uncertainty.  This unknown dynamic from a person who never knew love from the author of love, our God, can be confusing.  It is one thing to have known or seen love in action but to be in a position where love meant abuse or quite or nothing.  This can challenge the seed to no end.
