When my family and I first made the "Great Leap", left the city, and moved to the rolling grassy hills of Vulcan County in the great white north of Canada, I expected to just install a few services, hook up some pipes, and start enjoying the peace and quiet!
Well, the peace and quiet are AMAZING, but there were some "hiccups" that we didn't quite expect.
Getting water, power and sewer service to a new homestead or acreage is not something that is usually first and foremost on the mind of new homeowners, but these are vital services that turn a "building" into a livable, comfortable home!
Today I talk about
1. Water - The elixir of life, freezes at 0 Celcius (or 32 F), and has to be clean!
2. Septic Challenges - Don't pay for something that you don't need!
3. Gas - Not a Do it Yourself Project, unless you want to burn your house down and kill everyone you love. Seriously.
4. Power - Connect to the Grid, or go Off-Grid? I actually had a choice, although it was an easy one in the end...spoiler alert...WE CHOSE OFF GRID.
Oh..we have a store now. It's filled with great products for you and your homestead, whether you have been in the country for 30 years or 30 days!
