Beck breaks down the ways the DSM-5’s (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) framework and “gender dysphoria” diagnosis creates a restrictive container for gender expansive folks, which compounds the lived experience of trying to fit into a binary world, and how the issues with gender diversity exist in our transphobic and cis-heteronormative culture not within the individuals experiencing a dissonance with the gender they were assigned at birth. Beck shares his personal journey of coming into his trans masculine identity and the joy he finds in his gay, cowboy, leather life. Beck shares ways to challenge yourself, examine your own gender and sexuality as a first step towards showing up as an ally. Beck is an accomplished master's level clinician, armed with a profound educational background in Sociology, emphasizing Gender & Sexuality at the undergraduate level, and a master's degree in Addiction Counseling.
