In this week's episode of my podcast, I spoke with Alice Nichol, a fashion stylist who helps women feel more confident and comfortable in their clothes. I reached out to Alice because after recovering from an eating disorder, I struggled to dress my changing body. Alice taught me styling techniques to feel good about myself, like balancing proportions, creating illusions, and drawing attention to your best features.

We discussed the importance of feeling comfortable enough with a stylist to be vulnerable when trying new looks. Alice suggests covering mirrors at first and only looking once you feel good internally about an outfit. She gave tips for finding flattering affordable clothes, like thrift stores. I asked Alice how to navigate beauty standards and find empowering inspiration. She says to focus on the creative self-expression fashion allows, not just models.

Key lessons included owning your body with compassion to find proper fits. Mix textures thoughtfully and avoid restricting fabrics like satin. Incorporate self-care and visualisation when shopping. Have a "strut song" for an instant confidence boost. It's normal to feel bad sometimes; have "safe outfits" for those days. Adjusting your posture can transform your mood. Push your comfort zone to grow style-wise but don't ignore pain.

I'm so grateful to Alice for sharing her wisdom. This was invaluable for building body acceptance through clothing.
