Follow us at Underscore FTR pod. I'm at Angelina on air and this
1:00
episode and for the culture. We're talking about how aliens are real here on
1:03
Earth and let's talk TV. We're giving our Barbie film review. In Bitch,
1:07
I had an amazing weekend that went left real quick. And in today
1:11
in the Bay, I have Fatima who was founder of the Women's Premier Basketball
1:15
Association. What they're doing with the league of bringing a women's professional sports to
1:19
Oakland, California. So by all means, let's get to it. This
1:26
is for the culture, for the culture, for the culture. This is
1:30
where we pick aheadline and ask if they sheet or he did it for the
1:34
culture or if other did it for the culture. Oh what a US Air
1:42
Force officer an X intelligence officials testified under oath this past Wednesday, which was
1:51
July twenty seventh. Wednesdays today twenty six Today we're recording at midnight, so
1:56
it's twenty seventh technicique today. Yesterday was Wednesday, the twenty six six,
2:00
about the recovery of quotes non human biologics from crashed aircraft? Do do?
2:08
Do? Do? Do? Do? Do? Do? Should we play
2:12
the audio? Is there alien audio? No? Not intelligent extraterrestrials something I
2:21
can't discuss in public setting. Why not? Um? Okay, I can't
2:25
ask when you think this occurred? If you believe we have crashed craft?
2:30
Stated earlier, do we have the bodies of the pilots who piloted this craft?
2:36
As I've stated publicly already in my new station interview of biologics came with
2:39
some of these recoveries. Yeah, um per of my last email bit I
2:45
guess human or non human biologics? Non human? And that was the assessment
2:50
of people which recknowledge on the program I talk to that are currently still on
2:53
the program. This documentary reverences video photos eyewitness like how would be determined the
3:01
specific documentation I would have to talk to you in a skiff about Yeah,
3:07
okay, so and you may or may not be able to answer my last question, and maybe we get into a skiff at the next hearing that we
3:12
have. But who in the government, either what agency, subagency, what
3:17
contractors? Who should be called into the next hearing about UAPs, either in
3:23
a public setting or even in a private setting. And you probably can't name
3:27
names, But what agencies or organizations, contractors, etc. Do we need
3:30
to call in to get these questions answered, whether it's about funding, what
3:34
programs are happening, and what's out there. I can give you a specific
3:38
cooperative and hostile witness list of specific individuals that we're in those and how soon
3:44
can we get that list. I'm happy to provide that to you after the hearing. Super thank you, and I yield back on the fifth of Nebuary.
3:52
My question is, what the hell is a skiff? No, I'm
3:54
just kidding, that's just some some mumbo jumbo law talk. I'm like pictures
4:02
or didn't happen? Bit literally, I mean for me, I'm just like,
4:11
Okay, I do believe that there is aliens, Like honestly, I
4:14
could believe anything. Like the JV show, you just always get on me
4:16
because they're like, do you believe aliens? I mean mermaids are real?
4:19
And I'm like sure, just because so much of the world, the underwater,
4:24
is not discovered. So who am I to be like, no, that's not non existing exactly, Like good for you. Literally everything probably exists,
4:30
exactly. I think if there is aliens, okay, gonna do for
4:35
me exactly? They get me right now. I'm long guess right now is
4:44
alien gonna do pay for your gas? I'm just like until it's yo,
4:47
we are under attacked, aliens are coming for us to borrow, and then
4:51
like all of a sudden, all the lights go out. Then I'm freaking
4:54
the fuck out. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah exactly. It's
4:57
like there's been aliens. Yeah, just because you said in non human whatever,
5:01
like seeing you saw this, it could be anything. It could be a freaking robi bone steak. But they saw connected to an aircraft that crashed
5:08
and it's like unidentifiable and like it's floating in the air. Yeah. I'm
5:12
like, you know, the presidents, they they've seen the pictures, you
5:15
know, or someone higher up in the whatever you want to call it um
5:20
association of whatever. Like I feel like the pictures are there and they have
5:27
to wait fifty years for them to release the pictures. But then the aliens
5:30
are going to be like kicking in with us, and we're gonna be like, oh, okay, we already know what you look like. You look
5:36
like unimpressed. Yeah, but that's scary, Like, oh my god,
5:44
what if aliens got like a tinder? Would you would you date an alien? But I screw an alien? Yeah? How would I screw an alien?
5:51
Oh? Yeah, that's it's kind of scary. Like look like it's
5:57
just funny because it's like I remember when we were kids, is We're like,
6:00
there's gonna be flying cars and you know, aliens are gonna come,
6:03
and now it's like all kind of happening. It's like, oh yeah,
6:09
it's crazy. The future is crazy. We're literally living in the future.
6:12
We're gonna our Judy Jetson Rack is that her name? The jets They something
6:16
They do have some sounds of aliens. Oh, oh my god, oh
6:26
my god, oh my god. I will do this aliens. But love
6:41
is automatic. But this ya, I'm trying to zucker. Honestly, I
7:04
was trying to find the scene where like remember where they like are hearing the
7:09
noises and it's like I was like this whole time we were talking, I'm
7:15
playing audio. I was trying to find it, but I can't find it on you too? No is that? Oh so we are Disney Channel Original
7:25
Girl. Oh my god, girl the twenty first century. If the aliens
7:29
look like him, sure I do an alien and the zqual Okay, yeah,
7:34
oh my god. That movie was so fire. I won't have to
7:38
watch I know Raven her as her bestie. I remember like just having an
7:44
anxiety watching when I don't know, when I like showed their house and like
7:48
they're just like, I don't know, they're like floating in space. And
7:51
it was like that little circular too that they're just living in and then like
7:56
bits and pieces started breaking off. I don't know that always getting anxiety as
7:59
kid. I was like, oh my god, gird come down to earth. Remember she had like the little disc earrings, you know, I always
8:03
wanted those. She was fresh, she was fresh, her girls, you
8:07
know, Oh my god. I literally thought, you're already no way,
8:18
no way, breaking news. For the record, this is just zoom zo
8:22
zoom, like Yeah, aliens are out here. They've probably been out here.
8:28
It's like, do we want to fuck with aliens? Are they gonna
8:31
fuck with us? Are they gonna try? But you know what, the government probably been fucking with aliens. But the government is aliens alright, inception,
8:43
you just went through a layer a little Wow, they are listening to
8:48
us. No sweet just popped up someone for UFOs are real? Okay?
8:52
Are they gonna pay my rent? Should we throw a party? Should we invite billahadid? Why beladied? I don't know what is their plan for student
9:00
debt? Literally, I have a theory about that student debt. He's gonna
9:07
it's gonna be They're gonna wash it all the way right before, right before
9:11
Joe Biden leaves. Anyways, I think so oh yeah, oh yeah,
9:16
you keep dreaming, just gonna keep streaming dreaming. That's another one. You
9:20
guys know, I don't pay hospital bills. So I'm just like, okay, what's the big They'll die with your studolos, Like, what's gonna happen?
9:24
What's gonna happen? My dad always says he's gonna have bills, just
9:30
die with the It's not real. He says, you're always gonna be in
9:33
debt, so why stress over your studentos. Just die with them. It's
9:37
okay, Yes, Nancy, she's the most successful person I know. She
9:41
will never pay it off to school, just keeps getting higher and higher.
9:46
Yeah, do it? See what it feels like. I'm sees the aliens
9:48
are coming. They're gonna save us. Let's talk TV and just quick reminder
9:54
that the Writer's Guild of America is still on strike as well as the actors.
10:00
They need to do right by these writers. We linked it in the last podcast episode. We're probably do it again. Just their whole proposal of
10:07
like what they wanted and how it's old rejected. Oh but I do want
10:11
to give a shout out real quick to the Rock. You know, while
10:13
everyone is on strike, a lot of these writers and actors are not making
10:18
enough money to pay rent provide for their families. So they did start a
10:24
SAG after a relief fund, and Dwayne the Rock Johnson gave a historic seven
10:30
figure donation. They said, it's the largest single donation that we've ever received
10:33
from one individual, one individual at one time. And I was reading some
10:37
other article about like how it's going to help like thirty to fifty actors and
10:41
writers like pay their rent that month or something like that. It was a
10:46
huge help to everyone. Big up to the Rocks, who is from Hayward.
10:50
We claim him, Okay, I think he was probably like just born in Hayward and lived there for a little bit. But still Heyward Don Dwayne
10:56
the Rock Johnson doing big teams. We did get a really good movie this
11:00
past weekend, and we're going to talk about it. Barbie, wait,
11:05
did you see it? I did see it, and I want to go see it again. I know, Oh my gosh, it was literally so
11:13
good. So for me, like when I try to avoid all the reviews,
11:16
but the ones I like, obviously couldn't help it seeing because everyone's posting
11:20
about it left and right. For me, I feel like I saw the majority of it being it's a great movie. It's a great movie. It's
11:24
a great movie. And the only ones that were on the other side,
11:28
no one said it was bad. But there was a few that were like, it was really weird. That's what my boyfriend so irritated with him.
11:33
I'm like, you're just a hater. Everyone keeps saying it was really weird.
11:35
I think it's because like you didn't expect her to be like in Barbie
11:39
Land like that. She was like she wakes up and like turns her shower
11:41
on and like no water is coming out because she's a Barbie Land sonny can't
11:46
take a real shower. She's like tries to drink her coffee and like she's
11:50
sipping it but nothing comes out. It's fake. Last, which I think
11:54
that that was dope, especially if you're someone that like grew up with Barbies.
11:58
I definitely was more of my brat's air. Uh, but I'm sure
12:01
like even throughout the movie, there's just like a bunch of Easter eggs to like these discontinued Barbies and just like the Barbie world. So I mean,
12:07
I guess we're giving semi spoilers, but basically what happens is Margo Robbie is
12:13
stereotypical Barbie. She lives in Barbie Land, and she starts having these like
12:18
weird thoughts of like she's like, hey, guys, like why haven't if we just died right now or something like that, Like you guys ever think
12:24
about death? And everyone's like, witch, what are you talking about?
12:26
Is Barbie Land? Everything's perfect. One iconic line. I was like,
12:30
Wow, this is gonna be my new motto. But it's girls' night every
12:33
night, yeah, forever and ever. Yeah, I don't know that's a
12:37
direct call, but yes, every night is girls' night, bitch. Everyone
12:41
should live by that. So and they it comes to find out, they're
12:45
like, okay, well you need to go talk to weird Barbie to figure out why you're having these thoughts. And weird Barbie is the Barbie that you
12:50
would like cut her hair and like fuck her up with markers. Right,
12:52
That's why she's weird because like her owner like played with her too hard.
12:56
Yeah. Right, So yeah, she's just like constantly in a split.
13:03
Yeah yeah, yeah, she did great. Um, so you know she
13:07
talks to word Barbie and they're like, what the hell's going on. They're
13:11
like, okay, you need to go to the real world and figure out
13:13
why your owners being weird and putting these thoughts in your head because it's fucking
13:16
shut out. Yeah, so they go do that whatever. So so,
13:18
so her going back and forth between Barbie Land and then the world world,
13:22
and like obviously in Barbie Land like women, yeah, women rule the world.
13:28
Like Barbies are perfect. Everyone's perfect. I mean, no one ages,
13:31
no one does anything because he's there. Even that's another stuff that starts
13:35
going bad, Like it's like, oh my god, I have cellulite and like I can't stand on my tippy toes anymore. Like things are starting to
13:39
be not perfect for her, you know, there's like little signs and then
13:43
like she obviously has these thoughts about death. So when she goes to the
13:46
World World, she's like shook to her core, yeah, because she's like
13:50
what atriarchy? Man's disgusting ruling the world? Like why is the president or
13:54
why are like why why are all these men rule? Like they go to
13:58
places Mattel, you know, the owners of Barbie. I'm like it's a
14:01
little farell and like a bunch of dude. So she's like, can I talk to the president? He's like that's me yea, Like no old man
14:09
here, you know. But so Ken sneaks in with her to go to
14:13
the World World and Ken is like creaming his pants. He's like, man,
14:16
role, like what no one tell me anything about this is the patriarchy?
14:20
Like I gotta go back and tell the other can about this um So
14:26
that that's pretty much the premise of it. Um and America Ferre is like
14:30
ends up being Marcot Robbie's owner, and like they're figuring out why she's like
14:33
drawing her this way and like putting these thoughts in her head. Um her
14:37
little moment with her with her daughter. So it was the movie was like
14:43
a love letter to womanhood. Thank you, thank you. The scene there's
14:48
like a really short scene. It's it's it's like even in the beginning,
14:52
and I swear, like inside I wanted to like start balling. But the
14:54
scene where she's in the world world just for a little bit of time. She's like sitting at the bus stop and she sees the older woman and she
15:01
just like stares at her and then just says, like you're so beautiful because
15:05
she's never seen an older woman in her life. Yea, and like it,
15:09
Margot. Margot kills it like she perfect. She was a perfect Barbie.
15:15
But the way she portrayed like someone who doesn't know how to deal with
15:18
any emotions. It is like this fake as plastic person and like finally but
15:24
like finally feeling things and like I don't know, like being in contact with
15:30
stuff that she's never heard of before, Like she never cried before, like
15:33
there's so much stuff in the worldld that she's like, what the hell is this? Like what is crying? What is doing this? She acted in
15:37
her ass off and like someone like you could tell she's witnessing these things for
15:41
the first time basically, and she did that perfectly, like you could tell
15:46
she's someone who wow that. Like I saw her and I was like,
15:48
this is genuinely your first time crying. The way she looked at that older woman and like was so in awe and then just said, you're so beautiful.
15:54
Yeah. I almost wanted to start crying because like obviously, like aging
15:58
is a no no in our roles, you know, like it's just it's
16:00
one of the real things that we have to accept and deal with them.
16:04
It's not it's not real in Barbie world, because they're just they're all Barbies.
16:07
They're like, I'm young, I'm hot and beautiful. Like but for
16:11
her to be like a perfect person, sterotypical Barbie to see aging for the
16:15
first time and her first thought is you're so beautiful. She's not like,
16:18
oh my god, what's happening to your face? Or what is this?
16:21
Yes, yes, yes, it was so beautiful. I wanted to like start crying right away, and it's like it's the shortest scene ever. I
16:27
felt that. I felt that. I really love how they also tied in
16:30
the creator of Barbie. I think her name is Ruth or something, but
16:33
like they have someone acting to be the creator of her and then like,
16:37
okay, guys, spoiler or you know what we do on this podcast.
16:40
I love spoil everything. But in the very end, we oh, I
16:44
don't, We'll get there. We'll get there. We'll get there with her auto go like talking about the edge as yet. Uh no, yeah,
16:49
Margo eight down so great. Um the cameos. First of all, John
16:56
Alifa like popping up I don't know where, like just the ola. Yeah.
17:03
Michael Sarah, I'm sorry. He was like the perfect Allen, which
17:08
is like the one other like man Barbie that they ever created and supposed to
17:12
be like Ken's friend. I don't know, it wasn't a video. Was
17:17
like literally like the only other male. Yeah, and it's like he could
17:21
fit all of Ken's clothes, Like he's like literally just like Ken's sidekick bestie.
17:25
And I mean, Michael Sarah is just fucking hilarious. He played that perfectly. Um, I hate this is such like a like I said,
17:32
this movie is a love letter to womanhood, like it's so big on feminism,
17:36
so I hate for this to be my main takeaway. But I'm sorry. Ryan fucking Gosling the goat ate down. He stole every scene, Like
17:45
I h everything he said. Me and I took my friend Christina. We
17:49
like were bursting out laughing. There was one thing where we literally like were
17:52
like we might have to step out theater because we cannot control our laughter.
17:56
I think it was a dance number. Yes, yea, the small Parker
18:00
is so funny. I'm sorry. He was the perfect ken Yeah, like
18:08
he actually deserves um, what is it supporting actor? Yeah, he needs
18:12
an actor and an oscar for this. I was show good he was,
18:17
and like it's so funny because you remember that like Ryan Gosling was a Disney baby, like because he is hitting that dance number and it is just so
18:23
hilarious the little stuff he's saying, like, oh, I was really talked
18:27
about the patriarchy that I found out it isn't about horses. He has like
18:30
this weird obsession with horses, even the see where they're like going to fight
18:34
and they're like galloping in like I was just on my back, um Easter
18:40
Ray who was the president of Barbie. So there's just like the scene in
18:45
the movie where okay, so basically all the girls Ken comes back and he
18:51
fucks up Barbie Land. The patriarchy is taking over, and all the other
18:55
Barbies are in on it like they're they're like they're being they're brainwashed, yeah,
19:00
by the men. So their idea is to and this is where it's
19:03
like a very obvious, like at the beginning of the movie, it's very
19:07
complicated. You're kind of like, what is the plot? What is going
19:10
to happen in this Barbie film? And then it kind of kicks into gear
19:12
where it's very clear, you know, the Kens took over Barbie Land.
19:18
They January six, that motherfucker, okay, and they basically took over,
19:22
and all the other Barberies except for Stereotypical Barbie go along with this whole patriarchy
19:27
thing. So Stereotypical Barbie, who is Margo, has to figure out a
19:30
way to deep program all the other Barbies first to bring them back, and
19:36
then you know, once they do that, they'll take over Barbie Land and
19:40
bring it back to what it used to be so I will say the way
19:42
they distract their kens to deep program the other barbies. It was just like
19:47
a very obvious sequence, like the movie very much said men are so simple
19:52
and dumb. These are ways that we can manipulate them, Like I don't
19:56
know what are some of their like tactics to deep program the barbies, like
19:59
what is okay? Like you're gonna go ask this guy about finances because you
20:03
know, guys can't shut the fuck up if you ask them, like how do I manage my money? So like that's how you're gonna check that one.
20:10
He's a raise. Basically, he's a raised. Job is to go
20:14
up to the guy and ask him, are you watching the Godfather? But
20:18
the way she says Godfather the line delivery alone was like Oscar Worthy. Wait,
20:22
I definitely thought of you when that scene because I love the back and
20:29
it's just like any man, think of the most annoying man you know that
20:33
will not shut the fuck up about a movie and like has to over explain
20:37
it to you, like they saw that scene and they're still ruined right now.
20:41
Like if you ask a man about The Godfather, his response is one
20:48
going to be longer than the movies three hour runtime guaranteed. Oh my god,
20:52
are you watching The Godfather? Like the way she pronounced it, like there was no period in between God and Father, that was genius. Shout
21:02
out to Easter Ray. I mean she was very like she wasn't in a lot. Uh yeah, so good. Okay, let's talk about America forever
21:12
now, by the way, I love America, you guys. Short side
21:17
story about America Ferrera. But like when I was really young, I saw an interview about her, not about her, but she was. She was
21:22
doing an interview and they asked her what age she wants to be forever, and she said she would pick thirty. And like literally all my life and
21:27
tells a little girl, I always wanted to be thirty. And like as
21:30
I grow older, like I have cousins that are because I me and Chris
21:33
have like older cousins. We're probably like the only ones our age. Yeah,
21:37
we're like the younger ones. Yeah. So like we grew up around
21:40
cousins that are like a little bit older, but they always been like coultas. But like as I've gotten older, like my cousins are always making jokes
21:45
about how like they're so old because they're thirty or like just scared to become
21:48
that age or whatever. I like. For me, I've never had that
21:52
thought, like I've always wanted to be thirty because of America Frera since I
21:55
was a little girl. Yeah, so love her down And didn't you link
21:59
up with her or something? Yes, they have because they keep changing the
22:03
name. But she heard Eva Lengoria like started this UM. It's basically like
22:08
this group for Latina woman and we're supposed to like come with ways to like
22:12
help people vote, like how we could get people to the polls UM and
22:18
like every once in a while that like hop on a FaceTime with us. I actually haven't done it in a long time. I like always signed up
22:22
for the meetings and just haven't got on UM. But anyways, love her
22:26
down. And I remember before watching this movie trying not to look at the
22:30
reviews, a lot of people had a lot of praise for like America Farrs
22:33
like monologue and everything and like how great it was and how she killed it.
22:37
Yeah, Okay. While I was in the theater, there was also
22:41
this guy next to me. I hate when people chew with their mouth open,
22:45
and this guy was snacking during the monologue. So maybe that's it,
22:48
But honestly, I didn't really do that much for me. I'm sorry it
22:51
was you know, I liked it. I agreed with everything she said,
22:55
like for sure as properable, But I wasn't like they moved by the scene.
22:59
I guess I wasn't like, wow, yeah, yeah, yeah, give my girl an oscar. Yeah no, And I feel like they don't
23:06
Hella blew enough that way. I mean it was a powerful statement, sure,
23:10
yes, nonetheless, but it was it was even throughout my week,
23:14
I've been like going back to some of the stuff she said, or just
23:17
my everyday life being reminded of some of the stuff she said. I don't know, maybe the guy did ruin it for me. I guess I was
23:22
expecting to be like super mood by her delivery and I'd be like, give
23:26
her an oscar right now. But I don't know, I gotta go rewatch
23:30
it. I gotta watch it. Maybe I'm put on my feet of my
23:33
mouth. Yes, I feel like they needed that character to like kind of
23:37
tie in the real world. Um. Yeah, she was cool. She
23:41
was cool. My favorite parts, though, were just whenever they were own
23:44
Barby Land, like I wanted to be there the whole time. That was
23:47
that was the most fun. It was fun, right, it was so like, oh, it was just it was so pretty to watch, like
23:53
everything was fake and like beautiful and perfect. And I watched all the fucking
24:00
interviews with Greta Gerwig and like just what they did to create this world was
24:04
insane. And I even read that or saw an interview with her save um
24:10
for the backup people or the um like the extras or whatever. They're all
24:15
dancers, because dancers hold themselves a certain way, so they're all like very
24:19
intentional and that's just what a barbie is. Like their their fucking back is
24:23
straight, their heads up, they are like even if they're just like drinking
24:27
their coffee or something, they're doing like they they're doing something like a dancer
24:33
would do, you know. So just the detail that went into this and
24:37
the wigs, the wig, the wigs, like there were so many wings,
24:42
like just like you don't think about that, but like I don't know.
24:47
I'm like I have like a drag mindset now a little bit, just from watching Hell of drig Ras. I'm like, bitch, this should make
24:52
that fair wig costume, Like that is mother fucking work. Where's the wig
24:57
lady? Yes, and I'm I don't want to us boiled and for sure,
25:00
but it definitely was beautiful. What were you going to say about Okay,
25:03
okay, just how um the o Yeah, the kind was like the
25:11
creator was like, okay, barbe like Barbie is an idea and Barbie just
25:15
has this moment and she's like, well, you know, I don't want
25:17
to be an idea. I want to be the one making I don't know, I want to be the person making the ideas and creating it. So
25:22
like I'm want to be a person in the real world, Like I want
25:25
to go in the real world and you know, have an idea and then
25:27
actually put action towards it and make something and create something. But if I'm
25:33
in Barbie world, I'm just I'm just the idea. And I was like,
25:36
damn, that is that is life in a nut motherfucking shell. Like
25:44
you can either have a dream and do nothing with it, or have a
25:48
dream and like you know, and and act upon it. You know,
25:52
And that's the scariest, hardest part of life is acting upon your dreams or
25:57
that little that little was in the back of your mind but you're afraid what
26:00
people are gonna say, you know, but I mean this woman, Ruth,
26:04
she created this Barbie doll. I was just watching an interview with her
26:07
too, like the actual woman, and she, um, it's funny.
26:11
She she she named the but she made Barbie after her, after her daughter,
26:17
Barbara, And this was like I don't even know what year, but this was like you know, years ago, fifty years ago or something,
26:22
and it was funny. Her Her daughter was like kind of mad about it
26:25
because she was like, well like or she was. She was kind of
26:27
mad at her mom because her mom was, um always working. She was
26:32
always working. She was, you know, starting Mattel or not Mattel, but like Barbie, and she was working in and she's like, well,
26:37
why why can't my mom And this is like in the fifties, sixties, I don't know, and you know, why isn't my mom like home with
26:41
me. Well, she's out working. So it's just like it's kind of
26:44
ironic. She got like actually flak for for being a I don't know a
26:48
future woman who was like has a job or like it's all about her career,
26:55
such a I don't know a double standard to think about for women like
26:59
you want to be the mom, but you gotta be the worker. But
27:02
you gotta like provide for your family, but you also want what is your
27:04
dream into? Yeah, like what do you America? Did that? I
27:07
know it was a moment. It was a moment. I really want to
27:10
watch the movie. I really did too, And again, don't want to call it weird, but it kind of was. It was just like,
27:15
this movie is making me feel things. And maybe because I was with my
27:18
friend and that guy smacking his food, hello loud. I wasn't straight up
27:22
bawling at the end, but I did. I wasn't getting tearyed and almost
27:25
wanted to cry. My friend out of the hand was crying her ass off. But yeah, there's a scene at the end where it's like a montage
27:30
of it's not necessarily a Barbie's having a moment, but and she's having these
27:33
flashbacks, but it's not of her life. It's like this montage of just
27:37
womanhood, like yes, random women, oh yes, you know, these
27:41
characters probably weren't even in the movie at all when there were kids and when
27:45
they're growing up and like saying height to their kids, like you don't even
27:48
know who you're watching so it's like, why am I feeling all these things? Why do I want to cry right now? Watching this montage? It
27:52
was apparent child relationship. It was different like mothers and their daughters like like
27:56
swinging them around or pushing them on the swing or them. It was like
28:00
just ohn't want to think about It was like literally just like about being a
28:03
woman and like how we just like go through life. It literally when I
28:07
was watching and I was just like, this is life, Like, yeah,
28:10
maybe you're the mother, maybe you're the daughter, and these are like things he got through. It was just so beautiful and like I'm gonna get
28:15
emotional, but like my friend she's going through a really hard time because her
28:18
aunt is like as cancer and it is like passing away. So like that
28:22
seemed like fucked her up, and she like literally texts me she was like
28:26
me and my mom was gonna go watch it again. And then she's like
28:29
my mom bawling, like volt just like going up crying because it's like you
28:33
do just think about life in that scene. I don't know. It was
28:36
just really beautiful, like the only way I could describe this movie. It truly was like a love letter to woman. Yeah, and like womanhead.
28:41
Yes, maybe like maybe feel or maybe just remember like what it meant to
28:47
be human, you know, right, but specifically womanhood, yes, like
28:52
and that end scene is right, the montage of all those little different situations
28:56
is like that that ship gets overlooked. Yeah, it's like simple exactly,
29:00
Like, yeah, it's just like being a human and all of us are
29:03
like connected to humans and other ways, and everyone has different relationships with people.
29:07
Like it was crazy. You guys got to watch it. It was
29:11
truly a beautiful film, but also like funny as hell. I think I
29:15
feel like I was laughing the whole time, and when I wasn't laughing,
29:17
I wanted to cry. Yes, like those are the only two mutions I felt each and every scene. Yeah, it was gorgeous through and through.
29:25
I can't wait to see it again. Yeah, and Margot definitely up there
29:27
with one of her best performances. I think I still think it. Tania
29:32
is her best performance. Everyone watched. Iitania if you haven't Tania Harding story,
29:37
but this is definitely up there. And our girl needed a w honestly,
29:41
because you know she was she was going to take us some else back
29:44
to back, so she needed this one and she hit a home run,
29:48
so I'm happy for her. Ryan motherfucking Gosling hilarious. The goat, I
29:55
guess could have used to like obviously, he is the heart throb. He's in all the you know rom coms. Yeah, all serious movies. I
30:00
haven't really seen sad. Yeah, and I know there's other ones that I
30:04
can't even like think of. So I played the perfect Ken. Also,
30:07
Ken is also named after Ruth, the creator's son. Yeah. Those kids
30:12
cute, um, But yeah, I can't help I hate to be like
30:15
man, this movie made me take round Gostling more seriously for some reason,
30:18
just because, like I do love crazy stupid love obviously the Notebook, but
30:22
like here, I'm like you an act horse, sir, Like you were
30:26
cracking me up every time you'round screen. He was like the perfect dummy,
30:30
so good. I do love that too, Like it wasn't I think there
30:36
are some people hating on it, like I mean all the in cells in the world, just like, oh this is it time in and like Ken
30:41
was just there or whatever. But I do love that. That's the point.
30:45
There was no like relationship. She like didn't love he said, we
30:49
want to be a boyfriend. Girlfriends like, kenn, what does that mean?
30:55
Girls? Girl, She's stupid. I know. The end, she's
30:57
like apologizing. She's just like, maybe it isn't girl's ride every night.
31:00
You're like and then he like he's always trying to kiss her and she never
31:06
wants to kiss up. She was like that I love, but she didn't
31:12
really like it was more like on a friend note, because I remember he
31:15
tries to kiss her and she's like a friend, don't push it. Yeah,
31:21
no, it's great. Go watch Barbie. I literally I'm probably gonna
31:23
go watch it again, maybe this weekend so I can get a good cry
31:26
properly this time. Wait, one thing I wanted to add, So the
31:30
end, like you were either bawling or fighting back your tears, right,
31:34
very emotional. Just picture you in the theater crying, and then all you
31:38
hear is and I'm that like a bobby Literally this this person was working.
31:45
He was walking a little last and I was like, yeah, I was
31:48
like, I'm over here bawling, and then you just hear NICKI Minaj and
31:51
I spice man. He spaked me. When I get bad, I'm an
31:55
La Rodeo drive. I'm in New York. Medicine. That was hilarious.
31:57
I was like, good, how am I supposed to feel things? They're
32:00
about to shake my motherfucking ass at a hell of funny. So if you
32:05
want to laugh, cry and spark something, go see Barbie. I said,
32:13
bitch, if you wanted to go to Taylor's, just tell her brother
32:16
you want to go to Taylors. You said that. Oh hell yeah,
32:21
man, right, I said, I said, I said, I said,
32:24
bitch, bitch, not me and Chris just filling an earthquake right now?
32:31
I thought you shook the table, you know what over here? I
32:35
don't know if like there's sometimes this room just be shaken. I don't like
32:40
that. But that was definitely an earthquake because I'm going to Twitter dot com,
32:45
where it is basically earthquake dot com. That's where you go to see
32:47
if there was earthquake, you guys. I literally got back on Twitter like
32:52
five years ago because my dad said that's where you get the news first,
32:55
and I was like, damn, that's so right. Yeah, I'm not
33:00
googling the news right now to see if there is an earthquake. Twitter going
33:04
on X is that what it is now? I don't know. Yeah,
33:08
I literally tweeted earthquake like twenty seconds ago and already has like six likes.
33:13
So but I'm trying to see other people joining Oh this someone I did,
33:17
you tweeted that and you got six likes, like immediately, Oh my god.
33:22
So people are probably like, You're like, oh, let's see,
33:28
yeah, someone else just tweeted at Twitter falls off hells. Are we going to check for earthquakes? Chris is deep in his Twitter scroll right now.
33:37
I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm like, honestly, what are the streets
33:39
saying about this earthquake? I'm just refriend in New York? Did he fell
33:45
the earthquake? Now? Go to sleep? But I love him so much
33:49
I miss him. Just kidding. Um. I had a very annoying weekend.
33:58
You do. It wasn't annoying that it was okay. Friday, I
34:04
don't remember. I think I just got off Berkeley and like went home and
34:07
whatever, carred on the move my life. Saturday very eventful day. So
34:12
it was my best friend's birthday this past Monday, so obviously she wants to
34:15
celebrate on the weekend. She has a part time pilate's instructor, so she's
34:19
all about that fitness life. So she made us all go to a soul
34:23
cycle class and then the plan was sole cycle and then brush and she like
34:28
maybe get the bike right next to her. And honestly, I haven't worked
34:30
out in a minute. So I was a little nervous because I've done cycling
34:35
classes before, not a soul cycle, but I've been to a cycle bar
34:37
Berkeley's your first soule cycle class. I've never been. This is scary.
34:42
Well, okay, so my friend is instructor at Cycle bar Berkeley, which
34:46
is basically sole Cycling Berkeley, and that one kicked my ass. But it
34:51
was lit like I remember the lights one out. It was like only red lights and like it was intense. I remember, like you played bad Bunny,
34:57
Like that shit was lit like it was like a club. But I
35:00
I also died. But I remember when I went to his class, I definitely was hungover, so pursual, It's like all was not hungover. I
35:06
was like, I woke up, drink my Wrning coffee, had my little
35:09
protein bar, drink some water. I was like, whatever, let's let's
35:13
get ready to die. I meet up with them. It's na yea,
35:16
my best friend, her mom, her step dad, her little sister,
35:22
her cousin who I'm all like super close to her sisters, so cute.
35:24
She bought us all like, um the wristbands and the headbands and like different
35:29
colorful ones, so we all got to pick. I was like, oh my gosh, this is so cute, so we go in. Honestly,
35:34
I fucking killed it. Yeah, Like it wasn't until the probably like close
35:37
to the end. He kept making us turn the resistance up like until we
35:40
like basically cannot move our legs anymore. And every time like but then he
35:45
started preaching. Bro. He was like, one more time to the bride.
35:49
Then he'd like, how many times you're probably the friend that people always
35:52
come to you, like, you know, with their problems, but once
35:55
time someone's asked how you're doing, well, you're doing You're the strong friend.
36:00
Just preach And I'm like, I'm looking around, like is he talking to just me? Oh my god, I don't know. We're gonna Sunday
36:07
service. I was ready to haul off the bike go up there and start
36:12
confessing my sands like it was a moment. But then like in between like
36:17
motivating us, he'd be like, preach it down and put it up to
36:21
the right one more time, and like it was like, oh my god, fuck you, bro, I cannot go to the right anymore. So
36:25
that part I think we all wanted to die. But then and then you
36:30
know, at the very end, you get to put it all the way back to left and you're cycling. And after that, like I was ready
36:34
to go, and then it was like, oh, okay, class is about to be over, and I was like, oh, oh, I'm
36:37
gonna go thirty more minute. Literally yeah, So I'm so happy that.
36:44
I was like, oh, that wasn't hard at all. Like I mean, I'm an easy sweater, but you didn't anticipate it being over and you're
36:49
like, oh shit, that was it? Just go again right like I
36:52
thought I was gonna Like my thought was I'm gonna die, I'm gonna throw up, I'm gonna have a terrible time. Yeah, Grandma's boy. Um,
37:00
we just wanted to kill revolution new high score. What does that mean?
37:07
Oh yeah, yeah, is that good? Yeah? That is that good. I don't know exactly that was mele cycle. Vico is so ready.
37:15
Um. And then we go to this little brunch spot. I forgot what it's called, but um, it was like the most perfect mill like
37:21
I have. I had like a bomb ass poke ball that they had there. Nadia's mom was like, let's buy two bottles of prosecco so we have
37:29
that. I love her Brenda, I know, in the stuff that obviously
37:32
paid for everything. Then so everyone was ready to go. So I had
37:42
to go to the Paramore concert that night. Um, I mean I definitely
37:46
wanted to go, but like no, I mean like I couldn't do anything
37:49
else, Like we had to start getting ready for the Paramore concert. Yes,
37:51
yes, all right, right, so like Bredge's ending, her little sister is also going. So I'm like, oh my god, Colly like
37:55
park at my job, you know, so you're car safe. So we're
38:00
like a little short on time, I know, Naudio, we kind of wanted to shop around. So I was like, okay, I have to
38:04
go the Parrama concert, Like I have to leave at five. It's like
38:07
two pm now. But there was an anthropology so I was like, I
38:09
definitely want to stop at anthrow and this is one of Polo Alto. This
38:13
is I held a nice anthropology vig. Luckily I was like semi bro because
38:16
I would have wasted all my money there because there was like a whole second
38:20
floor that had like the whole home, Like the furniture is there, like
38:23
all the stuff I usually see online, don't get Okay, these hoops are
38:28
from anthropology. All my hoops honestly are from anthrow. So it's a clothing
38:31
store, jewelry store. They have handbags, they have like nice as candles.
38:37
But there's there's anthrow apology, then there's anthro living, so they have
38:40
like a whole home to course action okay, okay, and like it' very
38:45
it's like very like West down on Pottery Barn. It's like on the level of those kind of stores. And usually I feel like when I go at
38:51
least like the one in Oakland, like there's some home stuff like the candles and pillows, but like not everything that you see online. And I feel
38:57
like this one had the ship you see online, but there was a whole
38:59
second floor where they had the home stuff. They had a whole bridal section. My best friend, by the way, is like getting married. I'm
39:04
her maid of honor, so like we like went to go like at some
39:06
of the dress is actually like it was cute and it was her birthday,
39:08
and I was like Okay, I didn't buy anything. Yeah, I'll picked
39:10
something out and I'll buy it for you. Here it's I got a like
39:14
an expensive as candle and like some eye mask or something. Yeah. Um,
39:17
but yeah, it was dangerous being in there. I want to go
39:20
back. We where's the one in no clint Um, I feel like it's
39:25
oh, I guess Berkeley's when I went to Okay, Okay, I've been
39:29
a cafe m no, Okay, I heard so much about it. Good
39:32
brunch pot. Yeah. Like around there, there's like a bunch of cute
39:35
shops. Apology is definitely over there. Cool. Anywhere where you feel like
39:38
I'm in a white town, there's probably an anthropology around the corner, like
39:42
you could just smell it. Like I feel there's a pottery barn somewhere.
39:44
I know there's a West Time. Oh, I know there's an throw the very nearby. Go into the Star one day, you'll you'll love it.
39:51
But yeah, definitely everything is overpriced. Um oh but my um little estimations
39:55
of prices was a point because nay fiance was like, I really want this
40:00
coffee table and they're waiting how along for the girl to come back, and he was like how much do you think it is? And I was like
40:05
twenty three, which it was twenty four dollars. I was so closed.
40:09
And then there's a super cute green chair I wanted, and I was like,
40:13
how much do you think it is? And everyone was guessing and I was like five hundred, bitch, it was four sixty eight. Oh my
40:19
god. Okay, wait, I know my anthrow prices. Wait wait,
40:22
my dream is to go on the prices, right, I would kill it,
40:28
but I was like, I live on anthropology on the app, so
40:30
like I've probably just seen all the wasn't know how much it is. Yeah,
40:32
the data in your brain, so if it's like anthro edition prices,
40:36
right, I was murder ring because I was like, yeah, I'm guessing everything right in this bitch, let's go. I didn't even need that lady
40:43
to come back with the price. That would have been me so finished.
40:49
Like obviously, I'm feeling like a new woman after that whole cycle class because
40:52
I actually haven't worked out in a long time. Like I really was feeling so refreshed. We stopped at Blue Bottle, got me some good coffee,
40:58
got spent time my best friends family, Like I'm feeling good, and I'm
41:00
about to meet up with my best my other best friend, Christina. We're
41:02
getting ready for Paramore, like and mind you, I'm rushing right because I'm
41:07
like, fuck the concerts, like we have to leave AD five. I want to make sure I get there the same time as Kaliyah, so like
41:10
a letter and all this good stuff, and me and Christina are both like
41:14
why, like we're on Hispanic people time, like, so I was like,
41:17
which we need to leave AD five? Like four, I'm on the
41:21
way. So I'm like still using like the sweat in my hair to do a slickback pony. I like change it to my olpha real quick. But
41:25
I throw the cutest outfit together. Hello last minute. I have this Kendrick
41:30
Lamar a T shirt from his concert, but it's very like not appropriate for
41:35
anything because it's um from the mist Moral and the Big Steppers tour, an
41:40
album, and it's basically representing the song we Cried Together. The front of
41:45
the T shirt like is basically two people fucking and on the back it says
41:47
fuck you fuck me yes. So I can never wear it anywhere and it's
41:51
all blocks. I'm like perfect. It's like hip hop but it's me, but it's black. We're going to a rock concert. I wear my booty
41:55
short set. I planned on wearing too Beyonce, and then I had just
41:59
bought these black booties, so I have my black boots like everything, like
42:04
like my makeup, because I'm perfectly I'm paring on my strip blashes. They
42:07
land right away. Like that is when you know it's gonna be a good day. When you put your strip flashes on on the first try, You're
42:12
like, the possibilities are on this. I'm gonna go take over the world
42:15
now, yeah, get ready, hello quick, I look good. My outfits bomb. Christina's in a better mood, like and my I told me
42:21
my Frankristine, and she's like going through stuff because like her aunt that she's super close to is, you know, really sick right now, so they've
42:25
just been like going through it. She's like, oh my god, I
42:28
really need this night, and honestly, I'm not gonna lie. So originally I invited an idiot, but I had a feeling like her fiance probably has
42:34
plants for her, She's probably not gonna be able to make it. So
42:36
she was first. I was like, hey, I got extra ticket to para, where do you want to go? But I had a feeling she
42:39
was like, oh, I let you know, plant are tentative, So I kind of feeling she wasn't gonna make it. So I'm already thinking about
42:44
my backups, so I think I hit up Chris. Yeah, and then
42:47
I hit up my cousin Alexis and like yeah, christ and he had to
42:51
work. And then it wasn't until I feel like that night when you told me how to work, I was FaceTime of Christina just to make she's she's
42:55
okay, and I kind of mentioned it to her, but I'm thinking she
42:59
doesn't want to go out because of everything she's dealing with, you know, like she wants to be a family. But she was like, oh my
43:02
god, no, but that's what I need, Like I don't want to
43:05
go, and I was like, I was like, okay, I just need to wait for two more nos and then it's you so like and then
43:08
Chris asked me that morning like no, I have work, and I was
43:10
like, no, worries you? Oh good? You were you? It
43:17
makes some honey Criss actually stupid to even ask you. And then my cousin
43:22
laws Is right away was like, oh, my god, I really want you, but I find I was like, oh, say less, that's
43:25
fine. So it's like boom. I was like everyone said. Now we're
43:28
actually just waiting for Naudio to say no because she told me like she would see right. So I'm like so excited to take her scene out. I
43:35
pick her up, like everything is perfect. She has like joints world for us. I have our little stuff, like we have the playlist we're like
43:43
seeing in our hearts. That were like, we're gonna come out of this
43:45
concert better women, right, Like we're gonna like be like funck the world.
43:50
Like because Paramore's lyrics when you're going through anything in life, we'll hit
43:54
you deep, you know, whether you're dealing with a shitty relationship, a
44:00
job, just life in general. That drive, like every lyric was hitting.
44:04
We're like, Wow, we're gonna be like we're gonna walk out this concert new people. Like we've been we've both been going through some stuff.
44:09
We're like, this is what we mean. So we're on the bridge.
44:14
She's on her phone with her coworker that's also going to meet up with us, and she goes, bitch, blah blah blah, just got an email
44:19
saying the show is canceled. I said, bitch, did you get from
44:23
who? Hayley Williams? Take it master like you because she's like she's like
44:28
asking me to confirm, and I'm like, well, who did you get an email from? Like what? So my first thought is go immediately to
44:35
their Twitter, their Instagram, see if they posted anything themselves. Sure enough,
44:40
they put on their official account. Here's my thing. I get things
44:45
happen. Like they said, someone got sick. Like I'm all about putting
44:47
your health first, whatever it is, even if someone passed away or whatever,
44:52
Like I totally get it. But they did it two hours before the
44:55
show even starts, like an hour and a half. Like that is so
44:59
wrong. Yeah, and it's like someone was sick like when ye right,
45:05
this must be food poison because how long did you know you were feeling well?
45:08
Also? Who? Yeah, if it's not Haley Williams, Bitchies show
45:12
can still go on. Yes, not to dis you know Josh and especially
45:16
Taylor York you know, love him writing the songs on that guitar. But
45:22
who it was a sick one. I want to know, bitch. Me
45:25
and Christina were distraught. I was like having the greatest day. I was
45:30
like, wow, soul cycle like brunch and made it just in time.
45:35
We're like on time. We're like gonna be there before the show even starts.
45:37
Look at us go and door. Friends were through the roof. We
45:42
wanted to cry. We wanted to cry Hailey Williams, No, it ain't
45:45
fun hard times yea, yes, literally smash over. We're like, where
45:52
are we even gonna go? Like, where are we gonna do now?
45:55
We just want to go home, and we're like, let's go her how
45:58
the cork runs, go get some drinks, were like, yeah, we should drink about this. We're like, let's go to Niedos. The Chris
46:02
was working um at events, so like he wasn't gonna be able to see
46:06
us. Yeah, when he came by stress, I'm like, you could
46:09
come, but I'm not in my right state of mind right now. Yeah
46:13
he was. He was Stressedna for sure became. He had a good time.
46:19
We got drinks afterwards. It was cute, it was, but it
46:22
was very much like why Like even when we're Christine were out, were like
46:27
if we're just drinking to drink, like what is happening? What are we
46:30
doing? We should go home, you know. Yeah, yeah, we
46:32
had stopped a bad oak after and I didn't getting drunk and texting this guy
46:36
that's like so stupid. Luckily he did not text my drunk ass back.
46:42
Your girl went in the archives just texting. People shouldn't be texting for no
46:46
reason, not even wanting to drink. Like nothing excitings happened. We have
46:53
this unnecessary hangover. Hard times. Hard times, yeah right, with Chris
47:02
pulled up to our table, I just kept singing hard times because that's what
47:07
we're having. That's suck. So did they ever figure out a rescheduling when
47:13
it's going to be You're not gonna go? Yes, they rescheduled it to
47:15
a Monday. The culture was Saturday. They rescheduled to a Monday. Definitely
47:20
can't go. I mean, I think if I talked to Travis are my like second boss, he would let me track it once I tell him,
47:25
like, how so shitty how it got rescheduled. But it's like and it's
47:30
after Wasmatask too, It's like August seven, so okay, so it's still
47:32
like up. But there was a lot of people that were like, man,
47:37
we flew from LA. We drove from LA, or like I definitely
47:39
cannot get a Monday off, Like I like it associating and like how early
47:44
they did it, Like people were literally exiting the toll, Like Khalia of my sister that I mean, my best friends sisters was supposed to meet up
47:50
with was already in the city. Like we were on the bridge, she had already crossed, Like we just made it. Chris, you to me,
47:54
like you know that emergency X could do just before the bridge, and
47:57
we were able to do that. We were so close to like being in
48:00
San Francisco, it's like, hey, are you gonna refund my whole bridge
48:02
too? Yeah? Yeah yeah, And like yeah, luckily we're in the
48:07
bay. But there's so many people that came from somewhere else to come see them right right right? Or yeah, like people like parents who like got
48:13
a sitner for the night. Oh oh literally your friend right yeah, well
48:17
the co worker literally got a citner for the night, right Yeah, that's
48:23
why she was like, no, we're still going out. Yeah, we're
48:27
drinking. Right, So, like I said, I'm all for you know,
48:31
you gotta cancel show. You got a cancel show. But like an hour and a half before he's cut out of pocket and she was looking cute.
48:37
You guys all were looking cute a waste, and it's like we were looking cute for the Paramour concert. Like outside of that, like us,
48:43
I'm mad Oak and ETOs, It's like, who are these goth bitches?
48:45
What are they doing? Who is that raw rabbit? And then the worst
48:50
part, yeah, literally yeah yeah, we're drinking, O Mad Oak.
48:57
Obviously I'm not trying to drive home drink. I crashed our Chris's house.
49:00
So the next morning, Chris is already I gotta go to work, girl.
49:04
I woke up and I was like, you're leaving three in the morning.
49:07
I had to work at nine in the morning, six hours. I
49:13
definitely stopped in and I got ready. But the worst part, my job's
49:17
still in my like paramore clothes, my little black booty shorts is out of
49:22
pocket as black T shirt and these boots made for walking. So I could
49:29
have called my car's at my friend Christina's house, so I could have called a lift art to go get it. But while I'm leaving and the lifts
49:34
driving, I realized I don't have my keys, and I'm like, I
49:36
know exactly where they're at there in Christina's cupholder in the passenger side. Never
49:43
I had asked you the night before, like are my goladd leave my glass?
49:45
Santos. Oh yeah. It all came back to me that, like I put everything in that cupholder in Christina's car. So I messes Christina,
49:51
but she's at work. So I had to go to her job with the
49:55
walk of shame looking like I've belong on East fourteenth bitch. And it's so
49:59
funny because I know she was watching me because she goes, no one's here,
50:02
cool, no one's here. So I come, bitch, the whole
50:06
outside is packed, everyone has a table, and I'm hurt the way her
50:08
job works, like it's mostly outside, there's a small inside, so you
50:12
could like I basically I'm like, okay, I'm just gonna be line it
50:15
to the door right there, like head down, like no one can see me. And I have to walk through like people's tables to go there,
50:20
and i'd be line it there and it says like, please use the other
50:22
door. I'm like no, no, I gotta like walk found these other set of tables and like I finally got her, She's like I just saw
50:28
that whole thing. You just be lined it and like I could just see everything that's going on in your head, and I'm just like so embarrassed.
50:34
And Christina obviously puts it on extra thing. Like right when I'll walk in,
50:37
she's like, who's this horror walking in? Like I'm just like telling
50:42
her, like, excuse my horror friend. You guys, I'm like,
50:45
I hate yeah, because she knows I'm hating this because it literally looks like
50:51
walk of shame. But she is a real one. I got there,
50:55
like obviously, I'm super hungover. She makes me the Patters and Sandley Andrew
51:00
everyone go there. It's so bomb. She's made me a bombas bond me
51:04
sandwich. I love me a bond me. She made me Vienneme's iced coffee.
51:07
She like parted me some coke like something with bab bulls. She like
51:10
cooks me up with the whole mill to feel better. We're chilling. She's
51:14
like, let's go back to my house on my brake so I could drive you to your car because I still have to go to the station and finish
51:17
a couple shows. So like we go to her apartment and she knows I
51:21
look like a horse, so she gives me like slides to put on to get out those stupid ass booze and like some backup shorts. She gives me
51:27
a little alephit to change into because she doesn't have to come into work,
51:29
just in case I see anyone like rolls us some joint. She makes me
51:32
a bomb ass smoothie, like she literally took care of me. I felt
51:37
so much better after leaving, Like the smoothie does something to me. The smoothie was bomb not gonna lie, Yeah, she really is. I know.
51:46
It was like almond butter and like blueberries, bananas. She put like
51:52
a little bit of cinnamon powder at the end. I don't know what, but it was. It was the best smoothie I ever had in my life.
51:58
And I love like anything but an Anna's and like almonds. Perfect friend
52:04
women supporting as that whole meal, the names, iced coffee, the smoothie,
52:08
the joints. This horror WK. Yeah, slut shaming me. What
52:14
do you always say yesterday's eyeliners? Correctly. I was struggling and I was
52:22
like, but she said, no one was here. She's like, oh, I that no one that you know. I look like the books are
52:29
bill. I was like, outside, there's not one open table, and
52:32
like my asticks are basically out in these shores, like as I'm sitting down,
52:37
It's just it was not like a look that should tell of funny.
52:43
Actually this horwalking and he just like, excuse my hor friend. You guys.
52:50
I was like, fuck you, I hate you. I hate this.
52:52
I hate everything. What I did do, though, was I door
52:55
dash two vitamin waters and that definitely helped me. Really, the guys,
53:00
there's literally a grocery store on my street. I was I was not walking
53:05
in those booths anywhere down the street from a store seven eleven. I know,
53:12
because I got to seven leven. Bag, I like drunkenly walked down
53:16
your stairs and I'm like, well, like a fish out of water.
53:21
The energy vitral water, you guys, that really brings your girl back, because you know, when you're hungover, you're not craving water like you know
53:25
you need water, but you know like your mouth is just like nasty,
53:28
like you need something like sugar, yeah, a little sweeteners. And I
53:32
hate any kind of like flavored water because I do love water, like I
53:36
don't want I hate sparkling water. I hate any like yeah that's like half
53:39
flavored. I feel like but like wait, wait water, No, I
53:43
only get the yellow on the energy line. And I recently realized that actually
53:46
has caffeine in it. Oh what I know? And I can't believe I
53:50
didn't. First of all, it's called energy, and like right on the
53:52
bottles says caffeine. One day, I was just examining the bottle. I
53:57
was like, oh shu, there's caffeine in this bitch. You don't know
54:00
how many vitam waters I drink in my life. Like my family they know, like if I haven't vitamin water, they're like actually hung over because she
54:05
has a vitamin water, Like they know that is my go to. I do that. Oh my god, there's literally here doesn't say caffeine. I've
54:15
never seen that. I was shocking. I was like, oh, I'm an they called energy tropical situation. It's all like helly caffeine, but sixteen
54:22
milligrams of caffee. You guys, we are in the studio. There's literally
54:24
a yellow vitamin water. I'm not hungover today, but I just happen to
54:29
have that. Vitamins B three be five, B six beats. You don't
54:31
have it because I know there's caffeine. I didn't have time to stop at
54:34
a coffee shop and literally like was up gas station. I was like,
54:37
I'll just get this vitamin water because that's caffeine in it. Oh my god,
54:42
here or like my other like my other good friend Hannah, anytime we
54:46
were going through it, like about to start up period. Well, we'll have hot cheetos vitamins water. Yes, Why did you just smell it?
54:52
Because I honestly there's something about this this smell because I used to drink this
54:54
too, like in middle school, middle school, and I didn't know how
54:58
to caffee either. It was like middle school or high cool. I did
55:00
this yellow got the yellow one too. You gotta read the fine print caffeine.
55:04
I was shook. It reminds me of like high school. I was
55:07
to bring you back to a love that smells do that this one and then
55:10
the purple and like the triple X one I used to get old. Yes,
55:14
you know, I don't think with any other one except for this one. And my friend Hannah is the one that put me on because whenever we
55:19
used to work with me, when I was at the front desk, whenever
55:22
we like started our period, she was like, no, you gotta do the hot Cheeto and vitamin water duo, and I never went back. So
55:27
now whenever I'm in a bad mood and or hungover vitamin water hot Cheetos,
55:31
that will bring you back. You guys, I'm dead. It's literally right
55:35
here, the yellow Energy one. You gotta read the fine print. I
55:38
was so shook when I read caffeine makes sense. It called is the energy
55:43
one Energy Energy Energy? Wait, we were we even talking? Oh?
55:45
So I door dash it. Yeah, two bottles because I know one one
55:49
in a v NF and I swear I was like slept through it and drank
55:52
those two and I had enough energies to make it to Christina's job and call
55:55
that lift. And yeah, I'd finished my drove to the city, finished
56:00
my shows, came back and just went to sleep. And what a beautiful
56:06
Sunday. Yeah, it's like it's the weekend started off great and then oh
56:09
went downhill. But it doesn't matter because we're gonna go see Taylor on Saturday.
56:15
We are seeing tay Ta. So yeah, Chris's outfit is cute AF,
56:22
so make sure you're following us on Instagram because I don't have an outfit
56:25
yet. We're gonna try to get it last minute. But Chris send me
56:28
pictures of his outfit and it's giving the skirt, the skirt, every the
56:32
details, like all of it, all of it, the earrings, the
56:36
sunglasses, the teacher. I'd be great. I'm gonna add some ribbons to
56:39
it. Coming soon. You'll see, You'll see, You'll see what I
56:44
mean. You'll see what I mean. You'll see what I mean. Yeah,
56:46
I literally have nothing, like nothing. It's okay it just wear something
56:51
pink. But Beyonce, I will be Yeah, I just I just thought
56:54
all that shit too. I'll try to get it together. You guys,
56:59
we'll see see. But yeah, we're gonna be at Taylor. Our sees
57:01
are not bad, so I mean we're not like touching her, but we're
57:07
not on the nose leaves. Finally, hello for once. Excuse me.
57:13
I mean we never were never I would never And oh my god, Wild
57:20
has just been like going crazy, like our whole station has like transformed to
57:23
being a full on Taylor station. My boss literally was like, if you
57:28
think it's too many Taylor breaks, it's not Taylor Army. Every break is
57:34
Taylor and we're doing it big on while like we're having an after part Tay.
57:37
Yeah, so I will be hosting the after partay on Wild after the
57:43
concert, So be listening on your way out when you're sitting in that traffic
57:46
starting up fine frame. We're doing like all Taylor songs. It's like it's
57:50
all Taylor mix. I love it. Yes, but now I'm super excited.
57:52
And me and Chris will be at Swifty Clara so oh period, we'll
57:59
be in section one h three. If you see us, say what's that? This is Today in the Bay. What's your host? And Jelina Today
58:19
in the Bay, don't forget on socials. You can find us at Underscore
58:22
FTR pod. I'm at Angelina on air, and I am so excited for
58:27
this Women's Premier Basketball Association. It's a Bay Area basketball league and I feel
58:32
like, you know, we're just talking earlier how women's sports is really coming
58:37
up, but even these past few years, I feel like there's been big talk about getting a women's team in Oakland. So we're gonna talk more about
58:44
the league. But I'm here with the two behind it Alla team and Shelley
58:47
Shelly. You're actually part of a brand that was really instrumental in getting gets
58:51
started. Correct, Yes, Okay, okay, So yeah, we're gonna talk about all about that of a team. I do want to start with
58:54
you because you're a real hooper. Yeah, basketball has been part your life
59:00
kind of forever, so kind of tell me your journey first with the basketball for sure. Well before we just started, I want to thank you so
59:05
much for having us here today. Is an amazing experience, So thank you.
59:08
But just to give you a little background into my story, you know,
59:13
basketball saved my life in so many ways, and you know, just
59:15
with my upbringing in itself, it was really my outlet to be able to,
59:19
you know, navigate through that space and just remind myself, like life
59:24
there's ups and downs, but like regardless of how everything's going, like,
59:29
there's certain things that I can control, and when I was on the court, I could control those things. So that was literally like my escape.
59:35
So you know, growing up in Oakland, I had the opportunity to meet
59:38
a lot of amazing people that have helped me stay on course, you know,
59:42
within my journey, and you know, Shelley being one of those people.
59:45
Did you play in high school? I played in high school, I
59:49
played in middle school. I ended up going to Juco out here in San
59:52
Francisco City College of San Francisco and then transferred around a bit, trying to
59:57
kind of like figure out my my basketball life. And you know, I
1:00:02
think my junior year, I sit down and have a talk Michelle, and
1:00:05
I'm trying to figure out what it is I'm trying to do moving forward, you know, because I'm just like basketball, I want to be able to
1:00:10
do this, but I also want to figure out what else is my purpose?
1:00:13
What else am I looking to do? Because it's kind of like all you've known forever, that's literally been my identity. Like for so many people
1:00:20
that have played basketball throughout their lives, this is literally who they are,
1:00:23
right. I played basketball in high school. I was trash. I was
1:00:25
like big average, are you digingbo mentality? It's like basketball's life, and
1:00:30
it just it does teach you other things outside the court. You start thinking about those things, you know exactly, so I get a little bit basketball
1:00:38
Like, Okay, maybe basketball it's not my life because I was trash,
1:00:40
but no, But I mean again, it's taught me so many life you
1:00:45
know, skills, and it's helped me to you know, be within this
1:00:50
space that I'm at now. So you know, when I started my professional
1:00:53
career, Um, I wasn't in the best situation. I literally, you
1:00:58
know, I'd say this a lot. If you can make it in the Bay you can make it anywhere. So I had to I had to bring
1:01:01
that mentality with me while I was overseas because I was just like, this
1:01:05
is something I really want to do. This is what I want to pursue, and I want to you know, create longevity within this. So,
1:01:10
you know, fast forward six years down the line, I'm looking to create
1:01:15
something in the Bay Area here because I'm like, again, basketball has given
1:01:19
me so much and we don't really have anything like this out here in the
1:01:22
Bay Area or in you know, California for that matter. That's really looking
1:01:28
to create opportunities for women to you know, thrive on and off the court.
1:01:32
So we created the Women's Premier of Basketball Association last year. I was
1:01:37
playing top league in Mexico during this time, so it was a little bit
1:01:39
of a had to juggle a lot of things to be able to still put
1:01:44
my all into creating this league. But still, you know, nurture my
1:01:47
own individual goal, which is, you know, I'm blessed to play this
1:01:52
you know game still so created the Women's Premier Basketball Association. We started with
1:01:57
six teams last year had an amazing outcome because obviously it's new. If something's
1:02:04
new, no one's going to really like buy into it unless you know,
1:02:07
you really hold some sort of um how can I say this unless people respect
1:02:13
you in the community and reputation. Yeah, it's just like it's hard to
1:02:16
build something. But I had a lot of amazing people support me, Shelley
1:02:20
don Refology, them supplying us with you during that time and you know,
1:02:25
helping us to kind of create this collaborative space between our coaches or players,
1:02:29
you know, everybody else that's on our staff. You know, fast forward,
1:02:32
we're in our second season. We're literally doing you know, amazing things
1:02:37
this year, and we're continuously building on these opportunities to help not only our
1:02:40
players move on to the next level, but we're helping our officials. Like
1:02:45
Shelley has done an amazing job, you know, last year, she's been able to help all of those officials that have been within Refology, you know
1:02:52
a hand a couple of them have been able to move on to NBA and w NBA and you know, G league opportunities and you know players within our
1:02:59
league, they've been able to move on, and you know, some they've started their first year as playing professionals, and then you know, coaches have
1:03:06
been able to move on, and our trainers have been able to move on. One of our trainers is now working with the Seattle Storm just from one
1:03:12
year of being From one year of being will slow down just a little bit
1:03:14
because I know you're so no, we're gonna get there. We're gonna get
1:03:17
there because overseas, was that something that kind of switched with you to start
1:03:22
this league? Like what did you learn going over there and then coming back?
1:03:25
Like what was that shift for you? Literally, you have to love
1:03:29
it. If you're going overseas, you have to love basketball, because if
1:03:31
not, it's going to be a rude reality check, like there's going to
1:03:35
be things that aren't going to go your way. So it's just like, Okay, I have to pivot. I'm gonna have to make an adjustment.
1:03:40
But at the end of the day, I got to make sure that whatever
1:03:44
I'm doing, it's going to benefit me. Because every year you're going out
1:03:47
and you're playing overseas, like and a lot of women, it's like that's
1:03:52
kind of the only thing you have to do. I mean, we talk about share a woman as far as the representation and media is bad, and
1:03:57
like don't get to start on the pay gap. There's also like let's talk
1:04:00
about like just how high it is for women just to go straight pro like
1:04:03
what you have to go throughout. It's so hard because it's especially like after
1:04:06
you finish your collegiate careers, the college doesn't owe you anything. They don't
1:04:13
need to try and help you get overseas, especially like for players that you
1:04:15
know, don't get an opportunity to you know, a WNBA training camp,
1:04:20
so they're literally stuck in this place where they're just like I don't know what
1:04:25
to do. They're making poor business decisions. Like for me, I spent
1:04:29
like two grand my first summer trying to figure out what it is I was going to do professionally because I'm like going to this camp, I'm going to
1:04:34
this clinic, I'm going to this combine, praying that someone picks me up
1:04:39
and sees value within me. But I think the beautiful thing about this league
1:04:43
is as opposed to going to these combines and you have to perform at your
1:04:46
best in three days and you're competing against eighty other players, Right, you
1:04:50
have a ten week season here where you're actually able to see your growth,
1:04:55
you're learning, you have other people here that support you during this time,
1:04:59
and they're really at the end of the day, they want you to succeed. So they're going to do everything in your power and their power to pour
1:05:04
into you so that you can come out on top. And obviously once that's
1:05:09
done, you get to pay it forward and just continue to help the community.
1:05:12
That's what were the like conditions, like hooping overseas. Enough, we
1:05:17
already talking about the pay gap, but even just before going pro and having
1:05:20
to do that legal so I'm not gonna lie like unless you are unless you
1:05:25
have w NBA on your resume, Like, it's really hard to find a
1:05:29
program that's going to pay you what you feel like you're worth. Yeah,
1:05:31
and then you're competing against other people that have experienced So my first job I
1:05:36
was in All Salvador. I was on the worst team. Literally, this
1:05:40
was a rebuilding stage for them because they were trying to figure out, you
1:05:43
know, what they're going to do keep their team in or are they just
1:05:45
going to throw away the hope program. So I go out there and living
1:05:48
in Santiago de Mario. They didn't even have doors on the house that I
1:05:53
was living in, and obviously that's not safe, yeah, bringing in imports,
1:05:57
you know. So they ended up moving us to the Capitol. And
1:06:00
I think again, like I said, you have to love it. I
1:06:03
think I only made two hundred and fifty dollars my first year or my first
1:06:06
season playing there because the club brand out of money. Wow. But I
1:06:11
mean, like there were bugs in the house I was living in. Literally
1:06:14
I didn't have my own room, we didn't have hot water. I mean, luckily I got along with my teammate thought was there because our beds were
1:06:19
literally six inches apart. So I saw her every single day and we had
1:06:24
to just get through it together. But again, that's why I'm just like,
1:06:28
you have to really love it, because if you haven't experienced like that, anybody would have been like, I'm cool. Yeah, that's insane.
1:06:34
Like how did people are like forced to have to do that though and go
1:06:36
through it? And like that's why we needed these leagues you guys have created.
1:06:41
So tell me how did you link up with Shelley? How did this
1:06:43
partnership start? We were just talking about this on our drive up. So
1:06:46
again mid my junior year, trying to figure out what I'm doing because like
1:06:50
I'm in college, didn't have the best collegiate career. I was averaging like
1:06:56
three points per game. So I mean, if you're looking to play,
1:07:00
I don't think anybody's going to really invest in a player that's scoring three points
1:07:02
per game. So I'm just like nick upon a local to do that.
1:07:11
They don't need a paint or you can do all that stuff. So I
1:07:14
was just like, Okay, I went I met up with Shelley. She
1:07:17
was holding a like a clinic over at Bishop O'Dowd. That's where she went
1:07:21
um. And you know, she was doing these clinics during the summers to
1:07:25
like help other officials, you know, work on the mechanics and just kind
1:07:29
of get them set for you know, the upcoming season, whether it's college,
1:07:31
high school, or the pros. So I sit there, I watched
1:07:36
the entire time. I didn't know what to expect, right, And Shelley
1:07:40
and I have a really good conversation afterwards. She took the time to like
1:07:43
speak with me, because like I was just in awe that someone would take
1:07:46
the time to just meet with me, not knowing me or anything like that.
1:07:49
Afterwards, after everything you just went through your tale, it's like,
1:07:54
yeah, I'm just like, so I sit there and talk with her,
1:07:57
and you know, she's telling me about like what else she does. She
1:08:00
was like, I'm in real estate. You know, I do officiate, but I think the most valuable thing I hold is that I'm multidimensional and whatever
1:08:08
I'm doing, So she's creating other avenues, you know, she's not just
1:08:12
relying on one thing. So that was like my biggest takeaway that summer and
1:08:17
going to my senior year, I was just like, Okay, like something
1:08:20
else I flipped the switch. Something else turned on, and I was just
1:08:23
like, I need to start thinking about this in a different like way because
1:08:28
at the end of the day, like I don't have a safety net.
1:08:30
I don't have to I don't have college to go back to anymore. The real world legan. So I need to like literally kind of picture all on
1:08:35
this. I got to figure out Yeah, yeah, and Chilli, what
1:08:39
was your brand? That just so um about fifteen years ago, I started
1:08:43
a company called Raphology, and really I was working college women's basketball Division one
1:08:47
for twenty years and you're from here too. From here, Corn and Raisin
1:08:51
Alam and I went to high school Saint Jose Hey, so very local and
1:08:59
always to help anyone that is looking to pursue something at a higher level,
1:09:04
or even just to get better at the level that they're at. And when
1:09:08
Fatima intersected with me, this maybe seven eight nine years ago something like that,
1:09:13
she came up. Every summer would run a summer league where we could
1:09:15
pass along really good training to referees that couldn't necessarily get out and spend the
1:09:20
money to go to all of these camps where they might get seen and picked
1:09:24
up at higher levels. So what I did was I started refology, and
1:09:27
I brought the higher level training that I was getting and also participating in and
1:09:30
giving in the Division one space, and I brought it down to the locals.
1:09:38
So we would bring in folks every week from different areas from Monterey all
1:09:43
the way up to Sacramento and beyond. They could bring their crews and we
1:09:45
just pass along the great information. So that's what Fatima came up and witnessed.
1:09:49
Of course, my first thing was to try to recruit her as a
1:09:51
referee, which she's actually pretty good. Again, she still got that in
1:09:56
her back pocket of all of this. And but because you want good people
1:10:04
when you're reffing, you really good people around you, because it's it's a
1:10:08
trust you work as a team out there. When pandemic hit, I actually
1:10:14
got a phone call. I had been retired, went on. I worked
1:10:16
at the w for a few years, but I consult currently through my third
1:10:19
side coaching company, my business partner, Don Veden and I we consult NBA
1:10:24
teams and players and coaches on all things officiating related. Okay, and so
1:10:29
I get this phone call. And I really had still been offering some refology
1:10:32
clinics and things, just really for fun and charity. And I get this
1:10:36
phone call asking, Hey, there's a women's pro game we need some refs
1:10:41
for. Can you come out and referee? I said, well, I don't even think I have stripes anymore. If they don't mind me in a
1:10:45
refology shirt share, i'll show up. So I dug out the old pants
1:10:50
and went out, and Fatima was playing, and I saw all the women
1:10:55
that I had, many of the women that I had refereed all their college
1:10:59
career, um several that were there, and I just thought miss right.
1:11:04
So when Fatima was looking to really rebrand and start something fresh that had a
1:11:11
unique approach. I said, absolutely, but we have to rebrand and encouraged
1:11:15
her to really step outside of the box and start fresh, get her branding
1:11:20
set and launch as a new league with a new mission, and I'm just
1:11:25
happy to support her. And part of that then motivated me to start the
1:11:29
nonprofit Blast Equality Collapse that we can help fund. Part you know, our
1:11:33
premier partner is the Women's Premier Basketball Association, but I also through the nonprofit,
1:11:38
helped train and develop in a have incorporated refology now into the nonprofit all
1:11:44
the way down to youth sports as well as some other sports. The tagline
1:11:47
for um Blast Equality Collab is leadership Development. So from the bottom of my
1:11:54
heart, I believe referees are leading the way in creating fair playing environments or
1:11:59
facilitating the creation of fair playing environments. They have the opportunity on the daily,
1:12:03
hundreds of times each game to ensure their embodying equality. So what better
1:12:08
way to practice this by partnering with an association that wants to collaborate. All
1:12:14
players, coaches, and referees are eligible and participate and have a voice in
1:12:18
all of the training. We do things transparently, so there's no nothing hidden
1:12:24
behind creating this opportunity where these women get to play professional basketball at a professional
1:12:30
level. And I love so important, yes, and I love that you
1:12:32
both of you guys are from here because I mean, you just look at Oakland losing all these professional teams and a five year span. It's so sad,
1:12:40
and it's like, well, who has Oakland's back? You know, because like sports definitely belong in the city, and you know, like I
1:12:45
said earlier, like women's sports. I feel like right now, I mean it's a long fight and we're like not even closed still, but I feel
1:12:49
like something really is special happening right now. So I love that you guys
1:12:54
are from here and like just creating this pathway. How has the league already
1:12:57
impacted athletes? I mean, again, just to touch on last year,
1:13:02
we were able to send at least ten of our athletes overseas. For some,
1:13:06
you know, this is their first opportunities that like making their dreams a
1:13:10
reality. So we were able to do that. Moving into our second season,
1:13:15
like, we're working on making sure we increase that number this year,
1:13:18
but we've also been able to, you know, help more players get opportunities
1:13:23
through you know, whatever it may be. If they're looking to in their
1:13:27
professional careers, looking to move forward. We're trying to create more networking opportunities
1:13:31
to ensure that. Shelley's obviously pick some of them up for you know,
1:13:38
officiating opportunities as well. But again, I think the women in this league,
1:13:45
they're getting an opportunity to be supported by their community. They're feeling empowered,
1:13:51
and we're creating a competitive atmosphere for them to just come out here and
1:13:56
play and do the things that they love. And how does the league work?
1:13:59
Exactly like getting to play season starting, so we have so before the
1:14:04
season starts, we go through a tryout. So you know, this year
1:14:08
we had about forty five players come and try out with the league. Starting
1:14:12
with six teams last year, we were able to expand to eight this year,
1:14:15
so we added on team name teams, so we had about four or
1:14:18
five returners per team with obviously forty five other new players coming in. And
1:14:24
then we had some late register late people that registered looking for an opportunity to
1:14:30
be in the league, So we did a draft right after the tryout,
1:14:33
we selected teams, started out with practices leading up to the actual games which
1:14:40
started on June third, So literally whoever was able to make tryouts and you
1:14:44
know, they were able to show that they could play at this level because we have players literally that have graduated from university, players with w NBA EuroLeague
1:14:53
euro Cup experience playing in this league. So we want to make sure whoever's
1:14:56
here, they're able to compete and they're all still going to have fun at
1:15:00
the same time. Yeah, And alongside all of the tryouts, we also
1:15:04
hosted our inaugural Blast Equality Embodied Referee Leadership Summit Leadership at the intersection of basketball
1:15:13
plus officiating and alongside the Women's Premier Basketball Association Fatima Cameo Williams from GEMS in
1:15:19
the Gym, James Rockefeller from VJTV. We brought in some amazing guest speakers
1:15:25
to kick off the summit series, including none other than Dusty Baker, who
1:15:30
was our keynote, as well as NBA Championship coaches w NBA Championship coaches to
1:15:35
really present to any of the coaches players that want to participate, but for
1:15:40
the group of referees that are becoming part of the Embodied Referee Designation program,
1:15:44
that's really going to go across the country. At this point, we're creating
1:15:47
a new space so that we can provide these opportunities. Having this organization here
1:15:56
gives the opportunity for currently last year we had twenty five referees on we now
1:16:00
have close to thirty five are participating in the Embodied Referee program, coming from
1:16:05
as far as Handford to try to work these games. We've got some folks
1:16:10
that are out of state part of the program because they want to be part
1:16:13
of our training program that are looking at how can they get out here a
1:16:15
couple of times a summer to participate and serve in this capacity. So it's
1:16:21
really a high level training program for our officials and it's instrumental in being able
1:16:28
to ensure that the women are getting to play at a professional level. And
1:16:32
when they come from the backgrounds they come from, they don't necessarily want to
1:16:35
just if they want to continue playing their professional career overseas, that's great.
1:16:41
But some of the women have professional jobs, but they still want to play
1:16:45
professional basketball here. They don't want to play necessarily in a rec league or
1:16:48
a pro am change my whole life. They want to continue to play at
1:16:53
the highest level they can possibly play and what's so instrumental in the nonprofit and
1:16:58
the messaging that we're teaching and through all of our training and collaboration with Fatima
1:17:03
and the Women's Premier Basketball Association, is that leadership skill. Most women when
1:17:09
they end their playing career somewhere and they enter corporate America, there isn't a
1:17:14
ton of opportunity for them to continue in the habits that got them hired.
1:17:17
They may end up learning golf or something that fits in with the traditional corporate
1:17:23
way, but here's an opportunity for corporations to get behind also sponsoring. We
1:17:28
have one premier partner in the nonprofit, Team Schuler Compass real Estate. He's
1:17:32
done a He's made an incredible offer. He and Nicole Schuler have made an
1:17:38
incredible offer to any of the women that want to get licensed in real estate
1:17:41
while they're playing overseas. Once their license till reimburse them those fees and they
1:17:45
can start building their clientele while they're overseas or grow their their client their client
1:17:50
base here now. So we're looking for more partnerships in that space that allow
1:17:56
the women to continue to develop those strong leadership skills that they get through playing
1:18:00
high level sports. Yeah, I think it's the Harvard Business Review years ago.
1:18:04
I'd probably have to look on my very first tweet ever. But the
1:18:08
studies come out and they say over ninety of women in the C suite positions
1:18:13
played sports, and I think my tweet said something like I wonder if they
1:18:16
could say the same for the men but in those same positions. But it's
1:18:20
becoming more and more important, and businesses know, and we need those businesses
1:18:26
behind growing these organizations because the Women's Premiere Basketball Association is giving that opportunity for
1:18:30
these women to keep developing those strong leadership skills that make them so successful and
1:18:35
help transform a corporate culture in ways that are very needed right now. No,
1:18:41
that's amazing. It's like changing the way it's all like coming up in
1:18:44
basketball and still being able to do what you love, still being able to have a career if you want to. You know, you don't have to
1:18:47
go through these give up my whole thing right right now. I love that.
1:18:53
I still eat it up a game, But every time I see the
1:18:55
cliffs, I'm like, oh my gosh, it's like so lit. Tell me about like that atmosphere and fan base that has grown just in this little
1:19:00
bit of time still, Oh my goodness. Um, I appreciate everyone this
1:19:03
season that has come out and has continued to support us. It means a
1:19:09
lot because obviously we rely heavily on our community, but you know, this
1:19:15
season, we've had more high school students come out. You know, we
1:19:18
have more college and high school interns a part of this because they love being
1:19:24
around this atmosphere and just the mentorship component that you know, really comes with
1:19:28
it from all the players, you know, interacting with them and just trying
1:19:31
to help them be better as well as they're helping us, you know,
1:19:35
become better as well. So I just love that sisterhood that we're creating.
1:19:39
But the fans, they've been amazing. I can't thank them enough. But
1:19:45
I'm definitely looking to increase our fan base and get more of the cities that
1:19:50
you know, are supporting or backing these teams, to have them come out
1:19:54
and just see what their teams are doing. You know, yes, yeah,
1:19:57
and we have to have you come out because I've even gotten out and
1:20:00
shot the ball again. I haven't played in years because I'm rapping one.
1:20:05
You probably sash like not too good. We could do a little around the
1:20:11
World or something. I could try that. I actually I'm the in game
1:20:14
host for the Santa Cruise Worri is the g League team. The one's done
1:20:16
like we do shoot around and I don't make it to like the fifth track.
1:20:21
I'm not your announcer for them, but he's actually doing some announcing for
1:20:26
us this season. Oh really, Yeah, so we have we have a
1:20:29
lot of great people within the community a part of this because they truly believe
1:20:33
in league. Yes, I can definitely have to come out. Oh yeah,
1:20:39
no, I definitely know, like asap, I need to come out.
1:20:41
Have you as a guest announcer? Yes, I would love that,
1:20:45
was off on the mic. Where do you see the league five years from
1:20:49
now? That's a great question. Um, I mean I would even say
1:20:57
two years from now because I really liked to dream big. I mean,
1:21:00
that's why I'm in this space, you know. I really want to make
1:21:04
sure that all of our players are coaches, everyone that's on our staff,
1:21:09
they're paid because I want to create jobs within the community and I want people
1:21:13
to see value in what we're doing. Because again, like there's no women's
1:21:17
sports here, there's no sports teams out here in Oaklands, and I mean,
1:21:24
again, this is so important because if I had something like this growing
1:21:27
up, my life probably would have been different. But we're continuously making those
1:21:30
positive impacts in the community that we have now, especially with the next generation
1:21:34
of athletes, Like I think that's important. So within the next two years,
1:21:40
I want to make sure everybody in this league is paid, and I
1:21:43
want to be able to expand to different locations so that we can continue spreading
1:21:46
this vision throughout the rest of the nation. I'm so excited for you.
1:21:49
I love what you guys are doing. Like I just know I have a
1:21:51
good feeling like sports is coming back to Oakland, and just like women's sports,
1:21:56
it has to. There's so much space and opportunity right now. So
1:22:00
I mean, I really want people to just buy into that dream so we
1:22:02
can again make it a reality. Yeah, sell up and let us sell
1:22:06
Like where we can follow you, where we can buy tickets. How do
1:22:10
we support it? So follow us on at wool, Instagram, Women's PBA.
1:22:15
Our website is Women's PBA dot com. Do you want to highlight that
1:22:19
we are doing uh Skills clinic for high school girls next week? I just
1:22:24
dropped the fire last yesterday. Within twenty four hours, We've already had fifty
1:22:29
sign ups and now I was just I was capping it at fifty. So that's going to be happening right before All Star Game next week. So that
1:22:35
again we're showing that we're giving back to the community and we really care about
1:22:39
the next generation of athletes. I love it. Yeah, give them a
1:22:42
follow ups. What instagram is Women's Women's PA. All right, I'll be
1:22:45
reposting. We'll post it on the website too well. Nine for Night dot
1:22:48
com. But so have you guys came through today and I'll definitely be at
1:22:51
the next game. Thank you, I appreciate you. I guess is anything
1:22:55
else you guys want to tell your fans in the Bay area or interesting little
1:23:00
in support of Fatima's goal of trying to get the players paid and the coaches
1:23:03
and the participants and all the folks working, we um collaboratively. Actually,
1:23:09
Fatima, Donna and I went out and raft at the San Leandrew Boys and
1:23:11
Girls Club for a six week program every Tuesday's entertain race. Some funds also
1:23:16
help their program, So we're we've got a small purse already set up for
1:23:20
the championship weekend August fourth, through six. We've got some matching donors for
1:23:26
that, and we're kicking off a campaign with hundred X Causes, which is
1:23:30
another nonprofit that believes in the work that we're doing. Where we're going to
1:23:34
we'll have some more information on that here out next week, but we're hoping
1:23:38
to tap all of our networks in being able to raise funds for the nonprofit
1:23:43
so that we can grow the person the end of the summer for the Championships
1:23:47
weekend. Yeah, now that's super dough and I can't say how much like
1:23:50
instrumental the Boys and Girls Club was like to me and like all my friends,
1:23:54
like especially the athletes, Like there's a lot of you know, boys
1:23:58
and girls I grew up with that you know, on the same block. A lot of them would like get into trouble, but like going to the
1:24:01
Boys and Girls Club and like to play basketball after school, like not trying
1:24:04
to be in the streets or I remember one of the guys there. Because
1:24:08
the Boys and Girls Club, a lot of them are younger, like so you feel like, you know, those are your friends. It's not like
1:24:12
you know, these older people yelling at you that don't understand you where you
1:24:14
come from. I remember one of the guys dre end up being a coach for like AU program, and like I remember just everyone coming back like so
1:24:20
mad at him because they weren't touching ball until like two weeks. He was
1:24:23
just havn't have like run straight. But it just kept them out of so
1:24:27
much trouble. Like you know, they really care about the U. So I love that you guys are like going to the boys and Girls club because
1:24:30
I, like I always say when I make it, like those are the first people getting my money if I've ever become rich, Like I have to
1:24:35
go, like give them money. Enough fun about it too, if they
1:24:38
start. They restarted this program and it was it's the first time they've done
1:24:42
it in a number of years, bringing back in a competitive program. And
1:24:45
we watched the players and it was boys and girls playing on teams. Yeah,
1:24:49
we watched them develop in the six weeks incredibly. Just having the opportunity
1:24:56
and many of those players don't even play on high school teams, but just
1:24:59
to see them because there's only so many spots everywhere or what level you're at,
1:25:03
to see them be able to create the competitive environment there and actually have
1:25:08
them come out and support a few of them came out to watch FA team
1:25:11
of player. Yes, have some fun, so you know we're impacting young
1:25:15
girls lives, but also the young the young boys as well that are really
1:25:19
just want to see people competing at high levels. Right. I love what
1:25:23
you ladies are doing and I can't wait to see the future of this league.
