A quiet miracle of a show about being human in a post-human world.
This show is a marvel of what can actually be done with audio that wouldn't work as well in any other medium. The acting is superb and the story is tender, tense, and sad-but-hopeful; you can listen just to the story itself, or the accompanying soundscapes and conversations. If you're like me, you'll be left convinced of the power of sound and the intense beauty of the natural world.
This is an impressive audio storytelling adventure, mixed with conversations with experts and soundscape episodes. And it helps that the material trips all my post-apocalyptic triggers. Binge it!
This podcast took my ears to another world. Where robots believe they are human and the sounds of nature create.... well you have to listen and find out. The sound design so wonderfully executed. Bing it!!! You won't regret it.
Could not bring myself to finish. Very interesting concept with high production value, but the story was muddled, rambling, hard to keep track of, and had way too much emphasis on aesthetic.
I don't listen to a lot of sci-fi, so this was out of my usual box. But the first episode really drew me in and kept me wanting more. Enjoyed this thriller. I even listened to the talk episodes. Fascinating stuff to make you think.
It was good. I really liked the setting and concepts explored.
A story about being a person in a post-human world that explores the importance and power of sound and nature. The story is sad but hopeful. The story episodes are followed by conversations with experts and soundscapes that add to the story and its environmental themes. The performances are great - the narration of the three main characters blends into conversation at points, a stylistic choice that makes more sense at the end of the story.
absolutely incredible. the characterization, voice acting, world building, and even the ending were all spectacular.
Seemed to have a good plot, but I just struggled understanding the voices. Maybe it's just cuz I'm American, but some of those British accents were just a little too thick for me to understand. And I could never find a good volume to play this at. Struggled listening to this in the car, shower, during meal prep, etc.
This was unexpectedly beautiful. I almost bailed when it seemed a bit weird and slow, but I quickly changed my mind as the episodes went on. Great series
Interesting and very current story. The voice acting is stellar.
Fantastic sound and acting. Story is very engaging and has an urgent environmental message (does not put message over story). Kind of a green-1984-Matrix. The talks are very interesting and the music is fab (Bonobo's theme tune especially but not only). Loved the theme and the podcast over all.
Made it halfway through the series and just couldn't continue. This is essentially several hours of stunning sound design (some of the best I've ever heard in podcasting) with a 'plot' and environmental messages and morals shoe-horned in.I had absolutely no idea what was going on. Something about the end of the world and people archiving/deleting audio clips? I really don't know, the writing is so baffling and unstructured that it's difficult to keep up with who is doing what and why. Five episodes in and I barely knew the characters, let alone cared about them. The voice acting is appalling, with some of the most exaggerated, stereotypical English accents I've ever heard. One of the first scripted podcasts I can recall and I had it in my backlog for so long. The wait was not worth it.
This is such a good audio drama. The story itself is told well, the soundscapes are beautiful, and the talks between the story are interesting as well. This is actually the first audiodrama I've listened to that I listened to the episodes not directly part of the story, they were just so interesting there was no missing them. I wish there was more to it, I'd like to hear how the choices made effected others, but even without it the story still feels complete.
Some of the most haunting images a podcast has ever given me, some of the most beautiful sounds my ears have had the pleasure of hearing. This is incredible.
Stunning sound design, fantastic story, loved the actors (and fell in love with Pippa Haywoods voice). I re-listen this podcast every time I wonder how it's done best. Also, like that there is a soundscape and talk to every fiction episode.
This is a well done an imaginative podcast. Great job t ok all involved.
A narrated audio drama with gorgeous soundscapes of forests, of birds singing, frogs croaking, and whales singing, that just bring a tear to your eye. Not to mention the all around excellent performances by Pearl Mackie, Pippa Haywood, and especially Tanya Moodie, who gets to repel, delight, and tug at the heart strings all at once. The accompanying commentary and soundscape episodes are well worth listening to.
