Hazardous Weather Outlook for South Florida. Heat Index Values Near 102-110 Degrees This Afternoon. A Few Thunderstorms Possible Across the Interior. This hazardous weather outlook is for South Florida. Day one. Today and tonight. Temperatures: Heat indices ranging from 102 to 110 degrees are expected across South Florida this afternoon. A Heat Advisory is in effect this morning through this evening for Collier and Mainland Monroe counties. Please use caution if spending time outdoors. Thunderstorms: A slight chance for thunderstorms will be possible across the interior this afternoon. Lightning, gusty winds, and locally heavy rainfall are the primary threats. Days two through seven. Sunday through friday. The potential for heat index readings to reach around 101 to 107 degrees will persist each afternoon for the remainder of weekend. With multiple days of high heat indices the past few days into the weekend, some potential for heat-related impacts will exist especially over western sections of interior South Florida westward to the Gulf Coast. Once again, please take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light-weight and loose- fitting clothing when possible, and drink plenty of water. Chances for thunderstorms continue through the forecast period, with a general increase in thunderstorm chances for next week. The primary impacts from the storms will be lightning strikes.
