Hazardous Weather Outlook for South Florida. Scattered Afternoon Thunderstorms Across Interior Again Today. Waterspouts Possible Across Open Gulf and Atlantic. This hazardous weather outlook is for South Florida. Day one. Today and tonight. Rip currents: There is a moderate risk of rip currents along the Palm Beaches. Thunderstorms: Isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop late this morning and early afternoon just inland from the coasts as the seabreezes develop, becoming scattered across interior South Florida later this afternoon and evening. Lightning is the primary hazard, with the strongest storms producing gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall. Waterspouts: Isolated waterspouts are possible today, primarily across the open Gulf and Atlantic waters this morning, and across Lake Okeechobee this afternoon. Wind: The strongest storms today will be capable of producing wind gusts in excess of 50 mph, primarily with the afternoon and early seabreeze collision across interior South Florida. Temperature: Heat indices of 100-105 degrees are possible today across the western interior, Gulf coast, and portions of the western Palm Beach County metro. Days two through seven. Friday through wednesday. Maximum afternoon heat index readings in the lower 100s will continue across portions of South Florida through the weekend and into early next week. The best coverage is expected to shift towards the east coast metro areas through the weekend. Frequent cloud to ground and cloud to water lightning strikes will be the primary hazard, with stronger storms also producing gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and small hail.
