Youth Development is always a topic of much discussion in Australian football, so why not speak to a man who knows exactly what is happening in his part of the world.Adelaide United manager Carl Veart joins Adam Peacock to discuss how the Reds' have got so many talented players on their hands, as evidence by that 5-3 win on Thursday night over Perth Glory.Veart was with Football Federation South Australia, before joining Adelaide United at the start of the year as a coach (15 years after he scored the first ever goal in the competition!)His primary focus at FFSA was developing the best South Australian talent to provide players to the A League, and all of a sudden he's managing them.Obviously Adelaide and South Australia is its own ecosystem, and what works there doesn't automatically fit elsewhere, but many topics are covered, including:
- How did Veart help develop this batch of players like the Toure brothers, Lachlan Brook, Riley McGree etc
- How the system works in South Australia, from local teams, to NPL, to elite teams and then Adelaide United
- What role organisations like state federations have in helping a system work
- What Veart see's as the main problem for developing our elite youth
- What is ahead for some of the Reds' young stars
Enjoy!
