Hello BoomerCasters,

And I do say BoomerCasters, because you are different to podcasters. (By the way, have you seen the free video version of this free BoomerCasting course?) Is a BoomerCast just a podcast with a different name? On the surface, yes. But in reality, BoomerCasters have a much better chance of beating a very sobering podcast statistic.

90% of podcasts never make it past episode 7

Most BoomerCasters will make it past episode 7.

The majority of podcasters go into podcasting for commercial reasons. Podcasting is a way to reach a new audience of people that you can eventually sell something to.

Most podcasters create their podcast as part of a larger business plan, as is taught to you by most podcasting courses - and I will say rightly so, and it is the responsibility of these courses to give their students the best chance of realising their online commercial ambitions.

But what happens is that 90% of podcasts see very small growth in listenership

and small numbers are simply not part of their business plan so they abandon podcasting

and try other forms of reaching customers online.

BoomerCasting is different. Very different.

BoomerCasting is there for you to grow personally, for your psychological well being, for you to be able to care and share with your over 50 cohort.

Of course you want to grow your audience. The difference is the speed at which you do this, the volumes you achieve are vastly different to 90% of podcasters.

There is no doubt you can make your BoomerCast soar and go onto bigger and better things if you like.

At this point in traditional how to podcast courses you would be faced with an array of next steps. All of them coming at a cost of your time or your money or both. This is where the Pandora’s Box opens up. Once you open this it never closes. There’s always one more thing. one more piece of software, one more course. I know. I speak from first hand experience.

I too could offer you those same resources right now, but I won’t. Because this is where the WORK side of things kicks in.

I’ll make them available to you at any stage if that’s your want but right now they are a distraction from the joy of expressing yourself through BoomerCasting.

I reckon, again from my experience, that the best, no cost way, to organically build an audience and a community of interested people is on Facebook.

If you’re not on Facebook, you should be, because that’s where you’ll find a lot of your listeners.

It’s free; always a good reason.

If you are philosophically opposed to Facebook; I urge you to give it another look. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Facebook is simply a tool like any other. If used with discretion it works in your favour. A credit card used with discretion is useful. A credit card used foolishly is damaging. TV used with discretion is useful. So too Facebook.

The process is simple and you can apply 15 minutes a day to this and get results.

You go on Facebook and use the search box to find out whatever groups of people are associated with your topic. It’s just a bit of detective work. Simply you find out where the other people are hanging out. Then you join them there, you see what they are talking about and you join in,

giving useful and insightful help where you can. You do this for a few weeks.

You then start to tell people of your new BoomerCast in a very gentle way. Start by saying you’re starting up, and you’d really appreciate everyone’s input. Who would they like to hear? What topics do they want to know more about? Has anyone got any stories to contribute? Gently start to build a little bit of buzz. You’ll likely find a small group of people who are interacting with you. Take note of who they are. Keep giving help where you can and just be friendly and interested in what others are doing.

While this is going on you create your own Facebook group. This is free to do

and it means you can have your own online clubhouse where like minded people meet.

All of this I’m telling you now is explained in easy to follow detail in BoomerCasterville

so don’t worry about the how this is done, just take note of what is being done.

Listen to this bit, it’s important. You now tell your small core of interested people that you have created this special interest group where they can talk more about this mutually interesting topic. You tell them how to join the group, which again, is just a click of a button.

Right now is a good time. Now is a good time to launch your BoomerCast. You have a group of people interested and ready for it. Strike while the iron is hot.

You build rapport with these people in this group and get them interested and engaged. This will likely only take a week or two or three. Then you ask them to start telling other people about this new group you have started. This is so much more effective than you going onto the original group and saying, ‘hey look what I’ve got and it’s really good’. Much better if someone else posts

hey look what Simone has started. I joined and it’s really good.

Now gently once the word is out there you can start making some noise about your BoomerCast

What I have just described I have done twice. We have now have Facebook groups with over 2000 interested people. This is how you community build: gently, humbly and always trying to leave people better off than when you met them.

Don’t make the mistake of going into groups, who have never heard of you, and start yelling hey look what I’ve got, it’s amazing!

It would be the same as if you had your favourite local cafe that you frequented, the sort of place that you recognised other regulars and the counter staff knew you well enough to know your regular coffee order and you were standing there enjoying the atmosphere, and some stranger walks in, stands on a table and starts yelling, Hey everyone, listen to me, I’ve got the latest and the greatest thing for you. You would likely turn your back on the person rudely storming and shouting and turn to a regular customer, make eye contact, and roll your eyes in shared disbelief.

Don’t have people turn their backs on you on the Facebook groups. The same manners we are use in the real world work exactly the same online.

You can of course build an audience for your BoomerCast offline, in the everyday world, by speaking at clubs, telling your friends, approaching your local newspaper. Simply spread the word.

In the next free BoomerCaster lesson you’ll discover all about the BoomerCasterville community, what it can do for you and if you think it’s a fit, then how to get involved.

and as always  If I can do it, you can do it
