Ben and Phil have concluded that comfort and ease are not the final destination, rather a temporary reprieve for hard work completed, a goal achieved, or a challenge conquered. As longtime friends and mentors to each other, Ben and Phil have come to the same conclusion that the most transformative, creative and productive times in their lives were when they stepped into the unknown, often scared, sometimes desperate and always struggling. This is the friction required to start any meaningful journey Understanding and seeking out adversity and struggle is something Ben and Phil have been very intentional about in their day to day lives. Both will tell you that the last few years have seen massive hardships and risks but have also returned major rewards. This is the smoke that indicates we are igniting something new, that we must trust in and embrace. Through different jobs, friendships, relationships, goals achieved and embarrassing failures, Ben and Phil decided to share their own stories and the stories of some of the most interesting people you’ve never met. Friction and Smoke is about triumphs and failures. It’s about growth and progression. It’s about lessons learned and dreams yet to be realized. It’s about making our mark as we find our place in the world. It’s about connecting and sharing stories, sometimes hilarious, often heartbreaking, but always motivating Join Ben and Phil and a cast of amazing guests who have overcome the odds and inspired many, whether they know yet it or not. These aren’t the people who have “thrown in the towel” or have “finished the mission.” These are people who have taken what they’ve learned along the way and continue to pursue their dreams every minute of every day.
