Get those muscles limber, listeners, because we’re flexing our way out of this donkey’s asshole through the white space to a sentient genderqueer street where all outcasts are welcome and the awfulness of 2020 is a distant memory. But wait, don’t get excited just yet, for there’s a detour up ahead at the museum. These colonial treasure vaults won’t loot themselves, ya know!

In the second instalment of their foray into HBO’s Lovecraft Country, Craig and James find much to enjoy in the adventure we like to call JURNEE to the Centre of the Earth. Puzzles are solved, booby traps sprung, spells cast and broken before a flood of complex emotional responses carries our hosts into the deeper waters of the show’s execution and subtexts. While Misha Green and co’s production remains vividly realised, rich with cultural and historical references and superbly acted, are its disparate elements actually coalescing into a satisfying whole? In a wide-ranging discussion, Craig and James mull further over the show’s stylistic/narrative pros and cons, and dive deep into considerations of problematic on-screen representation. No need to pack a lunch, folks – this one is a whole meal!

Then it’s off on a zanier and generally more upbeat jaunt to Doom Manor as our hosts wax enthusiastic on one of their Holy Trinity of TV – HBO/DC’s Doom Patrol! Focussing specifically on the show’s inaugural season, it’s a free-wheeling appreciation of its exceptional conception and execution, its impeccable balance of the ridiculous and sublime, stopping to greet each major character and cast member on the way. Also discussed are the characters’ origins in DC Comics, the iconic run on the title by Scottish visionary Grant Morrison, and each of our hosts’ relationship with the source material.

As ever, expect the crucial questions to be addressed: Is Brendan Fraser the most underrated actor of our time? What even is a newsagent? How does a bandaged face emote? When will Mike Hodges’ 1980 Flash Gordon movie get its rightful reappraisal as a masterpiece of cinema? Are our hosts both secretly in love with Timothy Dalton? Did Craig really just unironically describe Silvia Moreno-Garcia's Mexican Gothic as "a Mexican gothic"? Are the X-men the Christina Braithwhites of the Marvel Universe? And if this show is so pants-shittingly absurd, why the hell do we want to live inside it so bad?!
