The fifth episode focuses on how two different kind of microorganisms (fungi and bacteria) can be used together in order to utilize the abundant resource cellulose as a substrate in a co-culture. Ana and Maurice, from Jena and Aachen, explain the uniqueness of their research in the project ToPiS and how GFP (Green Fluorescence Protein) helps to optimize their fermentation. Furthermore, this time, the translation process, from DNA via mRNA to protein, is demonstrated.
