It's the internet, you're busy, let's do this for April 3rd, 2024.

0:16

For the next hour or so, let me help

0:18

you sort through the world of gaming on Game

0:20

Mess Mornings Live with me, Jeff Grubb. Today

0:23

we may get another Prince of Persia game

0:25

very soon and the summer game mess season

0:27

is upon us. Jeff Grubb, please

0:29

join me in welcoming today's co-host of

0:31

Game Mess Mornings. It's Steven Spahn, everybody.

0:33

Steve, how are you doing? Oh,

0:36

I'm doing really good, man. I'm supposed to

0:38

make noises. Woo! Yeah!

0:41

Oh, that's perfect. Yes, that's fantastic.

0:45

Yeah, so, yeah, Steve, it's been a minute

0:47

since we talked. How have

0:49

you been? What games have you been playing recently? How's it

0:51

going? I'm doing really well.

0:54

You know, it's a feast or famine kind

0:56

of time right now for gaming. It seems

0:58

like there's like 95 games and then you're

1:00

like, when's the reward games coming out? So

1:03

I feel like in the middle of that backlog, I cannot get

1:05

through all the games I want to play. Mostly

1:08

because I can't escape Tarkov. I've been trying to

1:10

escape it for a long time. It

1:12

keeps pulling me back. I don't know. I,

1:15

well, that's, I mean, Tarkov, I've never even been

1:17

able to get into an extraction shooter. Is Tarkov

1:19

still the one I should go to if I

1:21

have some curiosity about that genre? Absolutely.

1:25

It's the one that sort of is

1:27

becoming the dominant one over it. And

1:30

the amount of people that watch Tarkov now

1:32

too is just ridiculous. Holy crap. There's

1:35

tens of thousands of people in that category

1:37

any day of the week. Yes, it definitely

1:39

seems like that is the, maybe

1:42

not the shooter genre du jour, but it

1:44

seems like the one that is the

1:46

newest and freshest for a lot of people

1:49

after Battle Royales kind of took over from

1:51

traditional, just the Counter Strike kind of games.

1:54

So, okay. So it's not worth

1:56

it for me to like go into the Call of Duty

1:59

one or something like that. Oh God. simpler. One

2:01

day I should just cut my teeth on

2:03

torqued off. Or you know it,

2:05

it doesn't have the same been the one thing

2:07

that little either them or nothing that. Fargo.

2:10

Has is that feared? It's almost like

2:12

him. Almost like having a horror game

2:14

you're playing with. The sooner it means

2:16

it's adrenaline. Paul Smith and I. Thought.

2:19

That is odd that is. So my jam two

2:21

sets what that in one I liked about pudgy

2:23

overloading. other ones is I saw actually scared and

2:25

puppy and I have never feel scared. And fortnight

2:28

napa That's really a knock against fortnight for next

2:30

do in it's own thing. but for me I

2:32

did come for that adrenaline. Of if

2:34

the adrenaline rush call for you. Didn't know

2:37

what the weird thing is you use a

2:39

good player only lives sixty plan on the

2:41

phone and photos so with with you actually

2:43

have some fun to live in your verge

2:45

demands to get out with the it is

2:47

a ridiculously good i. Saw. The

2:50

all right? yep Us is gonna. I'm gonna have to make

2:52

it happen. It's time that that is something. other things are

2:54

starting to slow down a little bit With with game releases

2:57

I feel like I can make time for some these things.

2:59

I imagine I would always go back and play. Nano.

3:02

The great thing about thought I was at Whites

3:04

every six months on the phone like the bus

3:06

long have they ever done So it's It's phenomenal.

3:08

They're figuring out that a player retention promo looks

3:11

as good at said that at the front. Tested

3:13

her. that's getting better than ever. I'm Steve. Ah

3:15

what will the reasons I had you on here

3:17

is Lucy is just too lazy. She would some

3:19

concert. last name is like teammates and speech got

3:22

something going on this week in May be that

3:24

for have him on to talk about it's your

3:26

habit your own a charity gala this weekend. Tell

3:28

people about that. what's that might have that? Get

3:31

started. I. Know this is the second annual one

3:33

or how to get bigger this year. How can

3:35

people participate? Yeah. I visit

3:37

you have any of the thought of

3:39

about it so sort of my my

3:42

labor of love on gaming and disability

3:44

right? So we discovered during that and

3:46

them at the it's it's bitterness when

3:49

he can't go out suits and Vincent

3:51

we said get to these places as

3:53

we have came with of them ideas

3:55

what if. you could have all

3:58

the fun of a convention but

4:00

it was online and only online. And so

4:02

we put together this little app on

4:05

Gathertown that allows you to

4:08

go in and be a 2D character,

4:11

like a Stardew Valley, where you're

4:14

literally walking around this virtual environment

4:16

entirely dedicated to all

4:18

the things that AbleGamers does, helping people with

4:20

disabilities be able to play games. It's

4:24

phenomenal. Last year, we had Ninja

4:26

Brian, Drum and ST on there,

4:28

doing the headlining, having DJs

4:30

all night long. And it's just a giant

4:33

party. It was just a giant celebration

4:35

of gaming and how we can all play

4:37

together. It's phenomenal. And I've been super proud

4:39

to be a part of it for the

4:41

last two years. This is year number two,

4:43

which means that we can only do better

4:45

than last year, I think. So,

4:48

you know, let's just keep making it better every

4:50

year and inviting people to come have a good

4:52

time. We have a bunch of influencers, a bunch

4:54

of friends, you know, inviting

4:56

people like you to come along and be like,

4:58

hey, I'm gonna be there. And then

5:00

your fans get to go, oh, wow, I

5:03

actually like get to meet the jazz themselves.

5:05

Holy crap. Yes, and

5:07

I'll definitely be there. That sounds like

5:09

a great time. It is, it's

5:12

all online. How do you make sure the

5:14

environment feels like spontaneous and anything can happen

5:16

and you can meet anybody? You

5:18

know, that's the beauty of the online world

5:21

is it really is a Stardew map in

5:23

a lot of ways. It's, you know, people

5:25

over here to talk to, you can walk

5:27

through people, you're able to take part in

5:29

events. Last year, World of Warships put a

5:31

fricking ship in the middle of the map

5:33

because why not? You know, it was great.

5:35

They were like, can we put a submarine

5:37

in the water fountain? I'm like, I don't

5:39

think we can do that, but okay, maybe

5:41

something. And if

5:43

I'm having a giant thing there, it's great.

5:45

But yeah, people from Logitech, Voodoo Ranger, it's

5:48

which we're having a lot of high

5:50

level interest this year in

5:52

celebration. It's actually AbleGamers 20th

5:54

year. Oh,

5:57

wow. Yeah, I don't, I

5:59

don't mind. The year Two or three,

6:01

the moment you've of the world's Muslims

6:03

in the yeah, when the moon as

6:05

well. so long time. Yes, ah, twenty

6:08

years when moly I'm. Okay

6:10

so let's say if people are are hearing this

6:12

they're interested. How can they participate were should they

6:14

go or what does it take to get into

6:17

the gala. Able gamers.org/dollars

6:19

and you'll see this really cool

6:21

piece of those. All about Entertainment

6:23

Know what we're doing? Thoughts about

6:26

on on the to slip.over said

6:28

that. They've

6:31

said silver for you know Google

6:33

given me the edge of them

6:35

by either a ticket for twenty

6:37

five books or there is a

6:39

loot box. Lose.for more support it's

6:41

you have a complex, your knowledge

6:43

and you want some memorabilia. It's

6:45

a really cool box that as

6:47

new and. Different stuff every year this

6:49

year have friends over at Logitech Feminine

6:52

with some virtual goods that are only

6:54

there for the first hundred boxes. so

6:56

once they're out there out and then

6:58

with says a lot of auto the

7:00

would gamers for your phone sorted so

7:02

I suggested your future lox that with.

7:05

And. And at the end the money that

7:07

like funds to Gallup does that go into

7:09

I like about funding able gamers. Core mission

7:11

is like Zoc outpaced So forward. Here

7:14

this is all just of events is

7:16

t celebrated were gamers and raise money

7:18

for that same time. Unfortunately see what

7:20

Gamers is no different than any other

7:22

charities financially it's an honor gear and

7:24

the ensued video game and sorry we

7:26

all know this has been a hard

7:28

year so in other nations across the

7:30

board for also bees are down it's

7:32

notice on the other gamers and rather

7:34

than doing a Pbs style three against

7:36

panel thing wouldn't wanna go South Africa

7:38

Time for gaming community have always been

7:41

greater detail us and making sure that

7:43

the funding but we. Need is there to

7:45

help gamers who need the equipment that we

7:47

prefer to be an odd there is our

7:49

eyes. A lot of I think of reasons

7:51

why I enjoy going to have thence, but

7:53

I do often think about where how hard

7:56

it was for me to even be able

7:58

to afford going to events early on. in

8:00

my career or even before I had a career. And,

8:02

um, I think this idea

8:05

of let's cut out all of that superfluous

8:07

stuff, the stuff that does get in the

8:09

way and try to virtualize it in the

8:11

best way possible. And it's admirable. I'm glad

8:13

you're doing this. I'm, uh, I'm happy to

8:15

participate in it. I can't wait. So, uh,

8:18

thanks for coming on and talk about it, Steve. Again, one

8:20

more time. Where should people go if they want to participate?

8:23

Yeah, go to ablegamers.org/gala. So I know

8:25

how to buy a ticket and you

8:27

can see pictures and video from master's

8:30

event to see how cool it is.

8:32

If you combine zoom plus sturdy Valley.

8:35

Oh yeah. All right. Uh, let's explain

8:37

what we do here on this show. Most

8:39

weekdays I Jeff grub will help piece your

8:41

gaming life back together. That includes breaking news

8:43

and maybe even some of our own original

8:45

reporting for all these topics, I'll get the

8:47

input of a bonafide expert who will make

8:49

me look smart. If you are watching live

8:51

on Twitch, welcome. You can always listen to

8:53

the show later on podcast feeds by searching

8:55

for game mess warnings or find the RSS

8:57

on giant bomb.com. You can also catch the

9:00

show later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube.

9:02

Hello YouTube. All right. We have a lot

9:04

to get into. So let's start the morning mess with 60%

9:07

of playtime in 2023 went to six year old or

9:11

older games, new data shows. This is

9:13

from Zach's wise and at Kotaku. A

9:16

new newly released game industry report by market researcher,

9:18

new zoo shows that while the PC and console

9:20

market grew by 2.6% in 2023 overall playtime decreased

9:26

as gamers spent more and more time in

9:28

a smaller list of old games like fortnight

9:30

and league of legends on April

9:32

2nd, new zoo released its second annual game industry

9:34

report, including a ton of data and information on

9:37

what people were playing and spending money on during

9:39

2023, according to new zoos data,

9:42

the PC and console game market grew and reached $93.5

9:44

billion in revenue in 2023. That

9:48

might seem like good news, but drilling

9:50

down into the data, it becomes clear

9:52

that it's only good news for a

9:54

small number of publishers and developers. News,

9:56

news, news data shows that the top

9:58

10 games on each platform ranked by.

10:00

average number of monthly active users or

10:03

MAUs are filled with old established titles.

10:05

Fortnite took the crown on all platforms

10:07

including Switch and PC. The rest of

10:09

the list include titles that won't surprise

10:11

you like Grand Theft Auto 5,

10:13

Counter Strike 2, Roblox, Minecraft, Rocket

10:16

League, Apex Legends, Fall Guys, Valorant

10:18

and Call of Duty. Across Xbox

10:20

and PlayStation consoles only one dedicated

10:22

single-player game cracked the top ten

10:24

and that was Starfield. Steve

10:27

I've talked about this news report in a couple places now

10:30

I know that was a they had a thing at GDC

10:32

I think where they talked about this people

10:34

started picking it up yesterday I figured it's a good

10:36

time now but like not to let the conversation get

10:38

by. I am a little

10:40

bit worried about what I see in these

10:42

numbers Steve where it

10:45

feels like the sportification has come to

10:47

gaming where people treat it as a

10:49

hobby and that is sort of

10:51

hard to ignore so in sports you know

10:53

we have established sports that people choose as

10:55

their hobby and it's very hard to introduce

10:58

a new sport and draw people away from

11:00

those. It does happen people plan out pickleball

11:02

yes sure if that's out there and people

11:04

are getting interested in that for the first

11:06

time in some time but for the most

11:08

part people you know like your

11:10

kids go place goes to play soccer they go to

11:12

play something else like that they

11:15

aren't like taking chances on something

11:17

new and strange and different and

11:19

now that gaming is this service-based thing and so

11:21

many people are like getting on these things to

11:23

spend time with their friends it

11:25

feels very much like the same thing is happening

11:27

here is that a problem

11:29

is that something where it's like

11:32

you know that is this a natural endpoint for where

11:34

gaming was headed how do you feel about it Steve?

11:36

You know number one being

11:39

a disabled AF person I don't understand pickleball how

11:41

am I supposed to hit the pickle when you

11:43

throw it at me? No

11:46

one understands pickleball we're

11:48

all in that same boat. Okay all right

11:50

just wondered it seems to give me a lot of

11:52

hand-eye coordination. I just eat the pickle

11:54

I don't get it. You know there

11:57

is a thing here in Pittsburgh called Picklesburg you could come you

11:59

could eat all the pickle. vehicles you want for an entire

12:01

weekend. That's delightful. Not

12:05

the cotton candy part, that's weird. Anyway,

12:07

so I think

12:09

this is kind of just where

12:11

gaming is going. I mean, the patch

12:14

to the list, when I

12:16

was looking at the graphic this morning, it's

12:18

like, Fortnite, Rocket League, The Sims, Re-Legend,

12:21

you're literally naming off all the games that

12:23

all of my streamer friends are constantly playing,

12:25

and it's hard to break out of it.

12:28

Not only because, you know, like you're saying,

12:30

people wanting to play it, but that's what

12:32

they want to watch, too. Like, if you

12:34

are someone who's a streamer, and you're trying

12:36

to go outside of these top 10, it

12:39

is a hard road. It is a steep

12:41

climb, where people just want to watch what

12:43

they want to watch. Even the

12:45

top of the show talking about my game, Tarkov, is more

12:47

than six years old. So, you

12:50

know, it's something strange.

12:53

I kind of wonder, in my head sometimes, are we

12:55

kind of at the point of the video game industry

12:58

as where movies start

13:00

remaking themselves, because they're running out of really

13:02

great original ideas, so they start rebooting, but

13:04

it's really hard to do that in video

13:06

game land, you know? Yeah, I

13:09

mean, I think that, you know, we definitely

13:11

are in a place where, like, a lot of the companies are

13:13

remaking a lot of their biggest games. But

13:15

at least they're doing it in kind of ways that are big and

13:17

interesting, at least some of them, Capcom. And

13:20

I think that funds their ability to take chances on

13:22

some other stuff, and we get Dragon's Dogma 2, which

13:25

does feel pretty original, even though it's very similar

13:27

to Dragon's Dogma 1 in a lot of ways.

13:31

But it just feels like this is

13:33

inevitable at a certain point, that if you

13:35

try to get as many people

13:37

playing a handful of games as possible, because that's

13:40

just economically that makes the most sense, you want

13:42

to have one big live service game

13:44

that just can draw on everybody, that

13:46

it takes up all the oxygen out of the room, and

13:49

it makes it impossible to sort of escape its gravity. I

13:52

think Matt Piscatella from what

13:54

was once NPD, now Sircana, refers to

13:56

them as black hole games. It's just

13:58

because they're gravi- great that nothing

14:00

escapes them. And

14:03

the thing about a black hole is it

14:05

just gets bigger and it sucks in more

14:07

and it becomes more difficult

14:09

to escape its gravity over time. It

14:11

doesn't sort of wane in power. So

14:15

like looking at the numbers that continues

14:17

to be the direction that things are

14:20

going. Now is this really a concern? Does

14:22

this mean we get fewer interesting games? I'm not

14:24

so sure about that. I think what these numbers

14:26

say to the big companies is your

14:28

risks are riskier than ever. So yeah, maybe

14:31

fewer interesting games from the biggest companies, but

14:33

I think there's going to continue to be

14:35

a bubbling up of indie games that really

14:37

fill in a lot of those gaps. So

14:39

I'm not like, oh, like walking around like

14:42

Charlie Brown worried about the, oh, this is

14:44

the individual games. But I

14:46

do think like, hey, we are going to be in

14:48

for some lean years from the big companies that were

14:50

accustomed to really seeing the most interesting games or at

14:52

least the biggest, the most interesting games. Does

14:55

that sound right to you? I know.

14:57

I think one of the things that we're

15:00

looking at this a little bit off on

15:02

is less than a black hole. It almost

15:04

feels like it's more like bubbles is how we're

15:06

used to seeing video games. Right. It's like,

15:08

for example, you mentioned PUBG earlier, right? Nobody

15:10

thought PUBG could be taken down until one

15:12

day nobody played it. And that's kind of the

15:14

way the video games seem to work is

15:16

you got like this huge, huge bubble of

15:18

amount of people that want to play it.

15:20

And then all of a sudden something else comes

15:22

along, pops it, and then you have just

15:24

the core audience in there and then everyone

15:26

else sort of goes on to the next

15:28

thing. And we're kind of used to that,

15:31

but it hasn't happened to Fortnite. It hasn't

15:33

happened to Minecraft. It hasn't happened to the

15:35

Sims, you know, but then again, they're really

15:37

good at bringing down their own games. For

15:40

example, Sims 5 will replace Sims 4. So,

15:42

you know, Fortnite, I mean,

15:44

I don't know, man, it's such a mega

15:46

beast. I don't know that you kill it. Yeah.

15:48

And you're right. This is I think we were just

15:51

used to things working that way for so long that

15:53

a change in that, I think what I consider to

15:55

be the natural order of video games. But the one

15:58

thing that's true about video games is it's. never

16:00

stable, something's always going to replace it.

16:02

And it's like, you know, that was

16:04

true for the first 30, 40,

16:06

almost 50 years of video games. But

16:08

in the grand scheme of things, that's not that

16:10

long, especially like you look at the way like,

16:12

you know, movies have changed and sort of settle

16:14

into the way it works. Like that took a

16:16

long time and it's much longer and it's even

16:18

that's not that old of a medium. But

16:21

maybe this is the new natural order. And

16:25

for me, as long as

16:28

there is a space like Steam for small

16:30

teams or even relatively big teams to take

16:32

chances on from the indie space and have

16:34

their own ideas and kind of do a

16:36

punk rock, like we're just going to do

16:38

our own thing and have the chance to

16:40

burst through with something that no one was

16:42

expecting. I think one, I'll be happy because

16:44

there's plenty of games to keep me interested

16:46

with that stuff. While I also

16:48

occasionally dive into something like a Tarkoff, I'm like,

16:51

I'm glad that these things have massive scenes and

16:53

feel like a hobby. And I can hop in

16:55

with people who are right there to either guide

16:57

me or to give me a hard time whether

16:59

either one that's going to be fun. So

17:02

it's like, I'm glad that space exists. The same

17:04

time I need like interesting ideas for me, novelty

17:06

is like one of the big things that has

17:08

always kept gaming interesting. And

17:11

I don't, I don't think that will necessarily

17:13

go away. I think they're going to keep

17:15

pumping out those games. So I'm feeling pretty

17:17

good. And I think the other side of

17:19

that is that the indie game scene is still

17:21

kind of where a lot of these interesting ideas

17:23

that have taken over the space did come from.

17:25

I mean, Minecraft was certainly

17:27

that, Roblox kind of

17:29

that, even like PUBG establishing a

17:32

battle royale was that I think Tarkoff's

17:34

not from some like, you know, a

17:36

major publisher. So yeah, I

17:39

think that if the indie game scene can

17:41

keep producing interesting ideas, one of those actually

17:43

could maybe break the grip that even something

17:45

like Fortnite has, although that's looking less and

17:47

less likely all the time. I

17:49

don't know if the FEN is going to

17:51

work the way that they want it

17:54

to. Like you know, the Fortnite engine

17:56

is amazing, but do you think that

17:58

we'll ever see another lead? League of

18:00

Legends, which for those of you who don't know

18:02

League of Legends spawned because of Dota, which spawned

18:04

out of World of Warcraft 3. So

18:07

the whole World of Warcraft IP is really what

18:09

started League of Legends in a very weird way.

18:12

So I don't know if we're going to see a daisy chain like

18:14

that again. Yeah, I think that I

18:16

think you're right. I think that that sort

18:19

of what was once the daisy chain out

18:21

of the modding scene from big established games

18:23

has sort of migrated to let's just make

18:25

our own game and put it on Steam

18:27

early access. So I think that the

18:29

spirit of that is probably still happening. It's just

18:31

not working that same way. And I think you're

18:33

right that Fortnite,

18:36

the unreal in Fortnite is not

18:38

going to be the thing that creates that actually. They're

18:41

trying to be Roblox. I think the

18:43

people that come to Fortnite have a certain expectation of

18:45

the games that they play having a certain level of

18:48

sheen and quality to it and kind of

18:50

the low-fi gaming

18:52

experience of Roblox would not be

18:54

a good match for what

18:57

happens inside Fortnite. But I

18:59

don't know. We'll see. I've been wrong many times before

19:01

Steve. We'll see what happens again. What? All

19:04

right. It's shocking. I'm not trying. I'm

19:06

not here to frighten you. All

19:09

right. Let's move ahead here. Sony is

19:11

planning a PlayStation showcase next month. It's claimed. This

19:14

is from Tom Ivan at VGC. Sony

19:16

is reportedly planning to hold a PlayStation product

19:18

showcase next month. That's according to giant bomb

19:20

buffoon Jeff Grub who said today he's heard

19:22

a bunch of times that either a PlayStation

19:24

showcase or a stand-a-play will take place in

19:26

May. Following the news

19:28

that Konami's Silent Hill 2 remake has

19:31

been classified by the ESRB. See

19:34

on the bomb cast yesterday I mentioned that I've

19:37

been hearing multiple times now there will be

19:39

a PlayStation something next month. It

19:42

does sound like the leaning towards a showcase.

19:44

They definitely did a showcase last May. So

19:46

it's not too shocking although looking to patterns

19:48

is never a sure thing. And

19:51

yeah I think it's something like a Silent Hill 2 could show

19:53

up there although it could happen earlier. That's

19:56

kind of unrelated. That's me guessing about Silent Hill 2. But

19:59

yeah. I think. PlayStation doing Showcase in

20:01

May is something of a relief. I

20:04

am, I know that they

20:06

said in a financial report, Steve,

20:08

that they don't have any major

20:10

like franchise follow-up sequels coming

20:13

from any of their first party studios this year.

20:15

And that that's their fiscal year. So through March

20:17

of 2025, and that

20:19

can feel kind of barren, but that doesn't mean

20:22

that they don't have a lot of games that

20:24

are either, you know, from these newer studios or

20:26

partner games, you know, from Square Enix or whoever

20:28

else. They probably do have a number of games

20:30

to talk about and I am, I'm ready to

20:32

hear about it. I think PlayStation's been kind of

20:34

quiet for some time and coming out and saying,

20:36

here's what's happening for the rest of this year,

20:38

even if it isn't from our first party will be

20:40

a relief. And I also, I do

20:43

keep hearing that there will be some smaller first party

20:45

games like that Astro game that is supposedly still happening

20:47

this year. And I am very

20:49

excited about that. So yeah, does

20:51

a PlayStation Showcase sound right to you? Are you excited? Are

20:54

you ready for some games to get announced for your PlayStation

20:56

5? You know,

20:58

I think the wild thing about PlayStation

21:00

is it, it almost feels like

21:02

giving your PlayStation a fan or else

21:04

everything else, your attention goes to Xbox

21:06

game pass. And that's, that's sort

21:08

of it like it is a little game

21:11

pass grade. I'm going to play it. Um,

21:13

you know, the, the Sony entire ticket has

21:15

been a little lackluster the last couple of

21:17

years. It's got a couple of big hits,

21:19

but then I don't know. It's almost like

21:21

they're worrying more now about quantity right now

21:23

than quality. It seems like they, they have

21:25

these, a lot of games that they put

21:28

out there. And you don't see

21:30

a lot of mass market advertisements for them. Um,

21:32

it's, I don't know. It kind of boggles

21:34

my mind a little bit where they've almost

21:36

kind of fallen into, they want the journalists

21:38

to get their messes out there that the

21:41

games exists rather than you don't

21:43

see as many PlayStation ads as you used

21:45

to on television or Twitch, you know, anymore.

21:47

But you see a lot for your Xbox

21:49

games. So maybe that means they're going to

21:51

start pushing them again. Yeah. And I definitely,

21:53

I think I remember, um, I think

21:56

it was Sony. It might've been take two and I might

21:58

be conflating these, but one of these, uh, CEOs

22:00

at the time were saying, you know, the one

22:02

of our biggest costs isn't even labor. It's marketing.

22:05

We spend so much on marketing that we want

22:07

to cut back on that to save a lot

22:09

of money. And you know,

22:11

at this point, maybe the PlayStation 5 kind of

22:13

sells itself in a lot of ways. You

22:16

know, I say that and then of course, we do

22:18

know that the PlayStation 5 did not meet its very

22:20

high expectations for the last fiscal year. But those were

22:22

always super inflated. It was never really going to reach

22:24

those numbers when you look back at it. So

22:27

yeah, it seems like PlayStation can ride some strength

22:29

here and not have to spend a ton on

22:31

marketing. But they also, I think the reality is

22:33

they just haven't had a lot of games to market.

22:36

You know, Spider-Man, they definitely have a lot

22:38

of ads for Spider-Man. Yeah. Yeah.

22:42

And then we came out for that and say, well, and then

22:44

what's next? And so, well, they said flat out, not much. I

22:47

think once they have some new IPs to talk about,

22:49

I think you start with a PlayStation showcase, Steve, and

22:51

then that ramps up to a summer

22:53

advertising campaign to lead you into the

22:55

holidays. That sounds

22:57

about right to me. I mean, you know, they

22:59

just did the Sony Access

23:01

Controller, which I got

23:03

thick-hearted about marketing. And

23:05

it was really cool to work

23:08

with the team. And that was like the most

23:10

major push I've seen them do in a while.

23:12

I think about games like Rocket

23:14

League and whatnot that I would have never found

23:16

out about it. It wasn't for

23:18

a friend playing it because they weren't really

23:20

heavily advertised. And sometimes I kind of wonder

23:22

if a lot of us are trapped.

23:25

Okay. So the lead story was about how

23:27

we all play the top-end games, right? Is

23:29

that because we only want to play the top-end

23:31

or is that because it's so hard to hear

23:34

above the noise of all the

23:36

games that are released, a game that you might

23:38

truly love, you just might not know that exists.

23:41

Yeah. I mean, I think it's both. I

23:43

think that's a big part of it. I mean, look

23:45

at that content warning game that came out this week.

23:47

That was their marketing

23:49

strategy was we are going to

23:51

be free for the first 24 hours. And then it's

23:54

I think it's like $8 after that or something around there,

23:56

maybe $10. But

23:59

for that first 24 hours. it was free and then I

24:01

think they probably partner with a lot of Content

24:04

creators and the game was

24:06

downloaded something like six million times on that

24:08

first day because actually what works is word

24:10

of mouth right that and but

24:12

word of mouth is a very Difficult

24:15

thing to get people positive word of mouth is

24:17

friends Spending their social currency with one another and

24:19

you don't do that for something that you're not

24:21

sure of Especially if you're gonna ask a friend

24:23

to spend money on something So making your thing

24:25

free is one good move on that because people

24:28

but hey get this while it's still free It's

24:30

limited time. That's what I did in our slack

24:32

at work. My everyone just get this cuz we're

24:34

probably gonna play it someday I don't want to

24:36

like track down codes for you I still got

24:38

I still got codes cuz I knew these masters

24:40

wouldn't download it and of course Didn't

24:42

so I got a handful of codes for him. I

24:44

still I'll hand those out to you Jan Jan But

24:48

but it's like you can't just repeatedly

24:50

say hey buddy Get this

24:52

other $70 game to play with me and

24:55

maybe maybe you'll like it Maybe you won't you can only

24:57

do that so many times So the

24:59

free-to-play games the sure things the things that

25:01

have been proven successes are the

25:03

things that continue to grow in word of mouth As well, I

25:05

think Steve, right? Absolutely word of

25:08

mouth is how you sell a game. I mean when

25:11

we did the GDC

25:14

Awards thing two years ago

25:16

and I got up on stage. I

25:18

literally called out inscription as the night

25:20

of the We were doing

25:22

that night because they did one like 95 Awards

25:24

and it only been running for like, I don't know

25:26

This is the show had been on for five minutes.

25:28

They already won that many awards. I didn't even know

25:30

how was possible but they kept

25:33

waiting the whole time and and I think that's kind

25:35

of where we end up with the indie games is

25:37

yes like Really stand out one that

25:39

comes above the rest and that's all anybody

25:41

talks about and again I think runaway success

25:43

like that was great inscription is a fantastic

25:45

game as you've never tried that you should

25:49

But at the same time there's there's only

25:51

so much air I know a

25:53

lot of my friends in the the author

25:55

world talk about it all the time and

25:57

I kind of wonder it's now in gaming

25:59

to where there are

26:01

so many random crappy

26:04

books that

26:06

come out that someone put no effort into. They went

26:08

to chat, GVP, and said write a book. And it

26:10

was like okay and I wrote a book and then

26:12

you publish it, right? And so you have to scan

26:15

through all those in order to find the ones where

26:17

somebody poured their heart and soul for eight years. It

26:19

might be really easy to miss it accidentally. Yep,

26:21

absolutely. And I think

26:23

that comes back to like so when people

26:25

recommend something, they do it

26:28

with some hesitation and you want to be

26:30

very careful about it and that's a big

26:32

hurdle to overcome in a lot of ways.

26:34

So you know come back

26:36

to PlayStation Showcase, this is I

26:38

think PlayStation can talk to their audience. I

26:40

think that that audience is always

26:43

ready for PlayStation to say here are the games

26:45

that matter. Sony

26:47

doesn't feel like Sony always capitalizes

26:50

on that to be

26:52

honest. So we'll see. A Showcase usually means

26:54

some big stuff. They also have

26:56

that rumored PS5 Pro coming out later this

26:58

year. Maybe you know that caps off the

27:00

end of a Showcase. So there'll be stuff

27:02

to talk about. I just you know I

27:04

hope there's some fun games. That's what that's

27:07

all. Alright you know what actually

27:10

it's that we're gonna take a quick break when we

27:12

get back plenty more headlines to get to. Let's go

27:14

ahead and hit that right now. See you soon everybody.

27:23

Alright we are back and this was an

27:25

interesting one. Prince of Persia. There's a new

27:27

Prince of Persia game from Dead Cell Devs

27:29

coming and that's according to a report. This

27:32

story comes from George Yang at GameSpot. A

27:35

new Prince of Persia game is reportedly

27:37

being developed by Evil Empire, the studio

27:39

behind Dead Cells. The game is reportedly

27:41

called the Rogue Prince of Persia and

27:43

will be released in Steam Early Access.

27:45

According to a report from Insider Gaming,

27:47

it's apparently a new roguelite game and

27:49

it's been in development for the last

27:51

four years. The art style is also

27:53

reportedly inspired by Franco-Belgian comics, which

27:55

sounds incredible to me. While

27:58

it's reportedly slated to be released later this year. Here,

28:00

it's unclear when it will be officially

28:02

announced. However, it could be revealed at

28:04

the Triple I Initiative showcase on April

28:06

tenth as Evil Empire will present it's

28:08

new project, their Arm. See we just

28:10

got a Prince of Persia game and

28:12

yet this that of this does it

28:14

bother me at all. I love the

28:16

idea of a arm a franchise. I

28:18

like getting in a bang bang bang.

28:20

Multiple entries from different developers taking different

28:22

ideas in different approaches to it's and

28:24

a rogue like Prince of Persia game.

28:26

sounds of those mushy from people who'd

28:28

made Dead Cells game. I. Really Love sounds

28:31

very promising to me. How

28:34

do you feel about this part of what? Hey, we just. we

28:36

had our team make Prince first game and we have an indie

28:38

studio. Making a Prince of Persia game says something that makes sense

28:40

to you. Only way to sort

28:42

of other one alla to him he

28:44

says attracted something emphasis on it was

28:47

running lights on road like so just

28:49

one of my servants honors says it.

28:52

Needs something so new and first especially

28:54

as it as a matter for this

28:56

is all mad at me up on

28:58

that issue of the have since the

29:00

my gums and or anything where you

29:02

can say what again cool recall also

29:04

succeeding Now those on the Muslim Immigrants,

29:07

sufferers and World Duckett, the Onion it

29:09

on and of market seems kind of

29:11

sits naturally enough right? I mean it

29:13

again. Both franchises that that's had time

29:15

travel a bunch of times rewind in

29:17

yeah. you can easily see how that

29:19

would fit wide with like the more.

29:22

Wise, but also yeah, just a good fit

29:24

for taking something that maybe looks a little

29:26

bit like dead cells. Applying that

29:28

Prince of Persia skyn I am and bring in

29:30

some stuff and is very press Persia yeah I

29:33

I totally agree. Like the idea of when you

29:35

fail in a rogue light were you feel like

29:37

okay I learned something so that's one piece progression

29:39

and maybe there's a little bit of met a

29:42

progression that I'm I'm walking stuff they will be

29:44

now showing up on and again later. Those you

29:46

think sort of trick my mind into into like

29:48

feeding into one another as I are progressing some

29:51

unlocking stuff and really I'm progressing because I'm learning

29:53

the game more or but those things like to

29:55

pursue fit together really well and keep me attached

29:57

to the game. and a really strong way

29:59

So I am very attracted to this

30:02

idea. I'm also with you on the let's

30:04

let the indies have a crack at it.

30:06

Um, I, I go back to

30:08

this reference point a lot, but my favorite, I'm a star

30:10

Wars fan. My favorite era of star Wars video games was

30:13

when they were putting out like 50 a year

30:16

and they'll be like, Oh, here's 10 over on this console.

30:18

And here's a bunch of PC and here's some that you

30:20

can only get on in 64. And,

30:22

uh, that stuff is like, Oh,

30:25

there's just a bunch of different developers taking different

30:27

ideas and running with it. And that still does

30:29

kind of happen today with other franchises like war

30:31

hammer, where there's a bunch of studios making stuff

30:33

for them. And I'm like, why is

30:36

that approach not more common? And I hope this

30:38

is the sign that maybe that is happening. It

30:40

probably isn't. This is probably just a quick little

30:42

offshoot, but I wish it was more common. I

30:45

think you bring up the quaint essential,

30:47

uh, example of putting out

30:50

massive things is not a bad thing.

30:52

I mean, a war hammer puts out

30:54

a new show, a figure, a book,

30:56

a comic, and a billboard every three

30:58

minutes. So, um, and

31:00

people eat it up, man. It's, it's one

31:02

of the most, uh, you know, servant fandoms

31:04

out there. I think, uh, it's, if you're

31:06

a war hammer fan, you love war hammer.

31:09

So, you know, you'll buy everything they've got.

31:11

And it is strange. You're right. There

31:13

aren't a lot of other ideas that really dive

31:15

into that. Even marvel has pulled back saying,

31:18

okay, we're, we're a fatigue now. So, you

31:20

know, they're, they're, they're let down to three

31:22

shows a year now because they're afraid that

31:24

they're passing the market. Right now I have

31:26

one movie this year. Yeah. And, and, and

31:29

I, I mean, I, and I obviously there,

31:31

there's some sensitivity to, uh, making something that

31:33

felt special, no longer feel special. But I,

31:35

I mean, I don't know if I was

31:38

getting an X-Men 97 beat them up arcade

31:40

beat them up this year from like an

31:42

indie studio, there's no way I'd be complaining.

31:44

That's exactly what I want. And then maybe

31:46

something else I wasn't expecting from a studio

31:48

that's taken the idea and twisting on it.

31:50

But yeah, I don't know. I, I think

31:53

obviously the problem here seems to me that

31:55

there aren't just endless studios out there pitching

31:57

ideas to these big publishers and it's

31:59

hard to like make the. Matches arm. But and

32:01

and I'll figure it out figured out

32:03

soundtrack. I'm a little further. Ah, Rights

32:05

or Saber Interactive C says it's Star

32:08

Wars Co two a remake is still

32:10

alive and well. Get. Again or the

32:12

some Crisco in a bid you see, the

32:14

Ceo of Zebra Interactive is confirmed that it's

32:16

remake of Star Wars Knights. You thought Knights

32:18

of the Old Republic is still in active

32:21

development. In an interview with I Gn Matthew

32:23

Cards was as though definitively confirmed that Saber

32:25

was still working on the game following it

32:27

split from Abrasive Group last month. I said

32:29

it's clear and it's obvious that we're working

32:31

on this. It's been in the press numerous

32:33

times when I will seize. The game is

32:35

alive and well and we're dedicated to making

32:37

sure we exceed consumer expectations. Now are this

32:39

is something that I'm for it with as

32:41

is partially happy to part part this partially

32:43

my fault I that's part of my gotta

32:45

games of Sounds dead on and then I

32:47

corrected it's a next day saying I it's

32:49

sums that as far as Sony is concerned.

32:51

I don't know if the see you're still

32:54

working on it and then of course I

32:56

just try the stories. like never still working

32:58

at the city, I don't have it over

33:00

come out but they're still working on it's

33:02

arm and now of every time that a

33:04

new one from above from Saber talks about

33:06

the anything they have to answer that question.

33:08

Is that game still alive? So my bed

33:10

Saber. Ah, I

33:12

wish someone would ask the hit would have

33:14

asked them. hey A, What about Saudis involvement?

33:17

This game originally got announced at a Sony

33:19

showcase and what? As a big Sony Bob

33:21

Iger, The Pope, Playstation Partnerships or worse I

33:23

Playstation is publishing this game and again as

33:25

far as I've heard is now Sony wants

33:27

nothing to do with it and they've They've

33:29

kind of severed that. I have a blue

33:31

confused about how that would work. is like

33:33

I would assume there's a contract there are

33:35

but maybe the game was up. Maybe they're

33:37

like get out clause at some point the

33:39

God of it. But as far as I'm

33:41

aware, Sony wants. Nothing to do with this

33:44

game anymore, I so what what about that

33:46

side of things we stop or it's so

33:48

still seem so up in the air or?

33:50

For. Your part? Steve Ott. Coat. Or

33:53

remake the they're still working on a

33:55

day when exceed consumer expectations probably not

33:57

coming out for several more years. Are

33:59

you excited? Is this something that you care about? I

34:02

like to be nice to the old Republic

34:04

and I was a huge Star Wars old

34:07

Republic MMO fan I played that for years.

34:09

So I love that world. I love that

34:11

universe It's

34:13

interesting to me to be when a publisher kind

34:15

of loses steam on something how that can really

34:18

affect You know what happens to it. We just

34:20

talked about marketing, you know, it's a big thing

34:22

But yeah, I don't know whether or not they'll

34:24

ever get done with it. But thing is No

34:27

tour used to be that thing you just talked about

34:30

where they just released another one every time they felt

34:32

like it like, you know There's a billion, you know

34:34

night for the old Republic and we all like all

34:36

of them So, you know, you maybe get back into

34:38

just letting people grab a saber and go light some

34:40

stuff up, you know Yep, that sounds

34:42

real nice to me. I Like

34:46

saber interactive. I Continue to

34:48

think that they do good work. They are

34:51

very busy. They got space marine to their

34:53

supporting expeditions of mudrunner game They

34:55

have several other projects. I

34:58

believe that they can make a good night's field of Old

35:00

Republic Remake if they have

35:02

the time and the budget that

35:04

is the big concern though It seems like it would require

35:07

a lot of money to make the game as it

35:09

was announced We'll see though

35:12

if any studio can like make it work. It is

35:14

that there's some technical Wizards over there at Sabre. So

35:16

I'm hopeful New

35:18

research suggests some gamers eyes see

35:21

more frames per second. This is

35:23

from Levi Winslow at Kotaku Ever

35:25

wondered how pro gamers get so well

35:27

pro sure It's the hours of

35:30

grinding and practicing mastering a game's systems and

35:32

applying them in a competitive in competitive situations

35:34

And yeah, it's the hours of learning and

35:36

studying returning to the game's roots and watching

35:38

the players that came before But

35:40

also it may just be better eyeballs according

35:43

to a new research out of Dublin pro

35:45

gamers see more images than others as spotted

35:48

by the Guardian Ireland's Trinity

35:50

College Dublin recently published a

35:52

paper in the peer-reviewed open-access

35:54

journal Close one the research

35:56

investigated a human characteristic called

35:59

temporal resolution which measures

36:01

our eyes ability to discern between

36:03

different visual signals and influences our

36:05

reaction speed to changes in our

36:07

environment. As the paper

36:09

found, some people, when presented with a

36:11

light that was flashing about 35 times

36:13

per second, saw it as constantly lit.

36:16

In other words, they could not perceive the

36:18

flashes, while others could see the light flashing,

36:20

even when the frequency of flashes was greater

36:22

than 60 times per second. In

36:25

the same way that video games can run at

36:27

30 frames per second or 60 frames per second,

36:29

this research suggests some people's eyes can see

36:31

visual signals at either 30 images per second or

36:33

60 images per second. And

36:36

this impacts athletes and gamers

36:38

specifically. I think

36:40

they tested this with tennis players and

36:43

the ones that had this higher visual

36:45

resolution tended

36:47

to have a better chance at playing tennis or something

36:49

like that. The

36:51

way that the conversation around frames per second

36:53

happens, Steve, this paper sheds a lot of

36:56

light on why that conversation is

36:58

so weird. Sometimes, some people are like,

37:00

hey, no, I don't see the difference. And

37:02

some people are like, I cannot stand looking at

37:04

anything that is under 60 frames per second.

37:08

If a light bulb

37:10

was flashing at 60 times per second

37:12

and you saw that as flashing, that would be

37:14

very annoying. And I bet those people are especially

37:16

sensitive. Does this sound right to you?

37:19

Are you someone that craves a higher frame

37:21

rate or does it matter to you? I

37:23

like higher frame rates for sure. And I

37:26

could see where this is just an

37:28

adaptation of human physiology. But

37:32

there is a veganism

37:34

profile and disabled guy. I'm telling

37:36

you, it's wild how your body

37:39

sort of starts to make

37:41

up for what you're lacking

37:44

in one area. It strengthens

37:46

the other. It sounds like an old-life skill,

37:48

but I Can tell you, one of my

37:50

skills that came in handy for gaming was

37:53

I've been in a power wheelchair since I

37:55

was eight years old. So My brain has

37:57

learned. To

38:00

see the world. Me a geometry so.

38:02

When. My arms were good enough

38:05

that I could drive with precision. Surfaces

38:07

Shriver I could walk into a room

38:09

that I've never seen before. The heard

38:11

accounts handle an enviable and some chairs

38:13

I can leary look at the room,

38:16

spin around and go backwards, park and

38:18

last but not in a thing because

38:20

my brain knew how to be that.

38:22

So when I truthfully that few things

38:24

like Sony, some games where you did

38:27

thirteen pounds, you'd be shooting at themselves,

38:29

modes of the walls and order to

38:31

give people a tool. Shirts. Like physiology

38:33

and my brains to credit because I

38:35

had already been used to that kind

38:37

of physics and I think that's probably

38:39

where these them of their goes well

38:41

as here's a natural born of Weaver

38:43

will not. It's probably not hard for

38:45

your brain to see in Atlanta Fast

38:47

Motion vision. Yeah. And I

38:50

together since big know like something that you

38:52

kind of with your know for a environment

38:54

where these things matter if you are someone

38:56

who's like playing tennis from a young age

38:58

and you do need to understand where the

39:01

ball's going to go next. I have been

39:03

able to. Are you looking at

39:05

that over and over again? You're probably can

39:07

become more accustomed to looking for tiny differences

39:09

in that probably increases your building. See you

39:11

know, frames per second or images per second

39:13

however they want to describe it's I bet

39:15

it's something that if you look for it

39:17

if it's something that matters to you, if

39:19

it is, it's something that matters to your

39:21

hobbies or is he become more sensitive to

39:23

it? So ah, I've been up here are

39:25

the St. Others are some natural born elements

39:27

there for sure. I'm. For

39:29

me these days, Steve forty five frames per second

39:32

gun on plane one on the steam deck of

39:34

I get forty five frames per second. I a

39:36

looks pretty smooth to me and I'm very happy

39:38

that that's the case cast and only to be

39:41

pushing me more are polygons per second? Been them

39:43

What? We already have Some glad my steam deck

39:45

works in most cases because of that, our butts

39:47

Thirty frames per second. Still pretty painful to me.

39:50

I don't like it too much these days is

39:52

albums me out when a game runs at thirty

39:54

frames per second. Largest power. Yet. when

39:56

you might imagine thirty we used to be like

39:58

oh my god this is amazing You know now

40:01

we kind of look at it as it's trash

40:03

and it's it's it's funny how the way your

40:05

expectations move as the years Go on but I

40:07

can I mean I have friends

40:09

who you know are wanting

40:12

monitors that you know has Up

40:14

to a thousand friends for some time. I'm

40:17

like you realize your brain can't actually comprehend

40:19

that really they're literally Making

40:21

numbers at this point. Yeah, and it's um,

40:23

there is the very top

40:25

eSports athletes having like a 360

40:29

Hertz a display that it does

40:31

make a difference for them But

40:33

just them like all the

40:35

only people that matters for are like the

40:38

top counter-strike and Valorant players and Having

40:40

like just that tiny bit of extra information of

40:43

how a character is moving through a space

40:45

like that little crack in the wall Yeah

40:47

So you could see like that that like sliver of

40:49

them as opposed to like oh now already half of them

40:51

has passed before they Showed up in that sliver. Yeah,

40:54

that can make a difference, but it's

40:56

really just you're not gonna see the difference.

40:58

Absolutely not All

41:00

right moving on once again here. This is

41:03

the last week your 3ds and Wii U

41:05

games will work online This is from George

41:07

Yang at game spot on April

41:09

8th at 4 p.m. Pacific time 7

41:11

p.m Eastern online play and communication functionality

41:14

for Nintendo 3ds and we you will

41:16

shut down These online services

41:18

include co-op leaderboard rankings and data

41:20

distribution back in October 2023 Nintendo

41:22

announced that it would be shutting

41:24

down in early April and now

41:26

we have a definitive date These

41:28

are there are a few exceptions such

41:30

as Pokemon Bank and pokey transporter Which

41:33

will stay online for the foreseeable future,

41:35

but Nintendo clarified that they still may

41:37

end at some point as well There's

41:41

much other features that like spot pass

41:43

use uses online communication, so it will

41:45

not be available after shutdown However Street

41:47

pass uses a local communication meaning that

41:49

it'll still function. Thank God This

41:52

this is a bummer. I had a

41:54

lot of fun playing some 3ds games

41:56

specifically online Mario Kart 7 was

41:59

really a Good time. I played a

42:01

ton of that. I'm. Super. Mario

42:03

Maker is this and especially important game to me.

42:05

I love that game or and trading levels with

42:07

people actually live mostly. I've been like in a

42:10

one rival trading levels back and forth with me

42:12

and I would play them on that. that was

42:14

really special by I gotta go down both those

42:16

who make sure I can keep them and preserve

42:18

them on my local but I'm I'm like playing

42:20

Super Mario Maker see but I'm looking at the

42:22

way it works and what? Even if I see

42:25

these levels locally a lot of times it feels

42:27

like it's trying to communicate and talk to online

42:29

for I can even get to that menu. I

42:31

hope that functions. Or. Once they once

42:33

the servers are down in the game it

42:35

just isn't fully broken. That would be devastating.

42:38

So ah yeah it's I say intimate era

42:40

are obviously this was always going to come

42:42

to an end up but it does it.

42:44

stop bums me out Steve How you feel

42:46

about it, you're worse. your bags precursor to

42:48

do that. Are you know how to play

42:50

history passer? yeah. since established vessels stone worked

42:52

I guess we'll see. I don't know. I

42:55

I knew people who are it was

42:57

as fervently be running around park service

43:00

for us as many as they possibly

43:02

could live a higher level than having

43:04

a lot of followed it. too young

43:06

for three The Us was not a

43:08

it's a great social causal from insulin

43:10

is going on a lot of Afghanistan

43:13

but from my perspective little interesting that

43:15

seem like a three vs as mean

43:17

the hook was being able to do

43:19

things with each other so you're probably

43:21

sell the online services. Their Deathly China

43:23

movie want for shirt. Yeah.

43:26

I admit some. I'm sure that there's

43:28

cost involved in our costs. Like you

43:30

know, customer support like someone. act. As.

43:33

An issue and you're like why are we still

43:35

supporting this They are You have to have a

43:38

huge infrastructure behind the scenes and know and the

43:40

baby know when is using the customer service asks

43:42

say I get why these things I'd deprecate overtime

43:44

or but yeah it's it's a bummer for for

43:46

me and I are that been playing Dan the

43:49

record levels from a he made a super Mario

43:51

maker which are just true nightmares are but people

43:53

are really into a know streams and I I

43:55

do have them all down voted. Look we have

43:58

these I think I do. I'm a double. check

44:00

today everybody but

44:03

I hope that that's

44:37

a negative of that company and it

44:41

can't be too hard to create a tool that

44:43

you just press a button and now it works in Super Mario Maker 2

44:46

and I bet it wouldn't be that hard but

44:48

Nintendo just does not put efforts into those kinds

44:50

of quality of life online features. It's

44:52

a bummer. As long as I can

44:55

keep playing those levels though I will

44:57

keep playing them on giant bomb everybody so keep

44:59

looking forward to Mario Maker 1

45:02

available. All right, a

45:04

new Mario RPG survey acknowledges existence of

45:07

the Mario and Luigi series is from

45:09

Liam Doolin at Nintendo Life. Nintendo is

45:11

reportedly sending out a survey that has

45:13

fans of certain Mario franchises excited about

45:16

what could be on the way. As

45:18

highlighted by Mario fans across multiple subreddits

45:21

and social media a new

45:23

survey not only acknowledges the Paper Mario

45:25

and Super Mario RPG titles but also

45:27

the handheld series Mario and Luigi. Of

45:29

course just a handful of these questions

45:31

have already led to speculation that Mario

45:33

and Luigi games could be making a

45:35

return. There are also many questions asking

45:37

about the gameplay mechanics across each of

45:39

these series with with mention of the

45:41

battle systems features and even characters. So

45:45

this is interesting because Mario and Luigi is

45:47

from a team called Alpha Dream. That studio

45:49

shut down because they put out a couple

45:51

of Mario and Luigi remasters and remakes at

45:54

the end of the 3DS when the switch was out

45:56

and everyone in the world stopped buying 3DS games so

45:58

those games did very poorly. And

46:01

the studio had to shut down which to me was

46:03

always like Nintendo. You kind of did this team dirty

46:05

I know you don't own them. They're a partner help

46:07

them out and keep them going so you can keep

46:09

making these games But again, no Nintendo

46:11

fucking weird a lot of times And

46:14

so that studio went away and I think the

46:17

expectation is Mario Luigi goes away with them So

46:19

now people see Mario Luigi in the survey and

46:21

they're getting their hopes up I think Steve when

46:23

I looked at the survey The

46:25

sense I got is that Nintendo is looking

46:27

for ideas that people liked from all the

46:30

Mario RPGs to inform how they make RPGs

46:32

Going forward. For example, there were a couple

46:34

questions about hey, do you like when? Like

46:37

these RPGs have new characters like Gino and

46:39

Mallow from Super Mario RPG Or do you

46:41

only like it when they have familiar Mario

46:43

characters like Peach and Bowser and there was

46:46

options for like I like new characters I

46:48

like the familiar characters or I like both

46:50

equally and then another question was Do

46:53

you like it when these characters that are familiar behave

46:55

and look in a way that is Consistent

46:57

with how you expect them to behave in other

46:59

games or is okay if they act in unique

47:01

and kind of kooky ways And

47:03

these are different questions that have come up with

47:06

the Mario RPG franchise a series before where it

47:08

was like Hey, it seems like Miyamoto

47:10

doesn't like it when like the like a Koopa It was

47:12

wearing a hoodie or whatever and

47:14

now it feels like maybe they're softening on that

47:16

Especially depending on like how these survey questions pan

47:19

out I I don't I'm not getting

47:21

my hopes up for a new Mario Luigi game Steve.

47:23

I'm a huge Mario and you fan I'm

47:25

not getting my hopes up from that. I don't think that

47:27

a survey is signaling that that's what happened. What is happening?

47:29

I don't know. What do you think? No,

47:32

I don't think that a service indicative of

47:34

a particular title coming out I think

47:36

Nintendo's probably trying to do their due

47:38

diligence I think they are worried that

47:40

you know, this is a new market

47:42

next generation coming up taking over, you

47:44

know What what could happen to? Mario

47:47

as we change into the old guard

47:49

like us are now in retirement homes

47:52

playing our Super Mario, you know Yeah,

47:55

so what will the you know the

47:57

next generation adapt to it and Things

47:59

made that. The way class new things they do

48:01

like the small like original version see what

48:03

could we see a day where know you

48:05

can buy a little hobby for your cooper on

48:08

here and Nintendo's thought maybe serve now to

48:10

the back of I could see where the cosmetics

48:12

or a big in the distance and the

48:14

recommends that. Yeah and

48:16

I become. I. Think you're

48:18

right that they're like him, always looking to

48:20

that younger audiences. Indo is the one major

48:22

video the when could be that has always

48:24

been able sort of renew itself with new

48:27

generations of of players. were are Sony and

48:29

Microsoft seeming like a sometimes they catch on,

48:31

sometimes we don't. Suited. To

48:33

know be a my hey how you feel and then. Be

48:36

like oh and we get we had you sign

48:38

in for the survey so we know your demographics

48:40

and if you're know had we do you going

48:42

to buy our shit no matter what I a

48:44

but if your kid with that sexual we care

48:46

about and do you care if it's like a

48:48

a new character do on like you want only

48:50

bows Hearing Princess Peach and Luigi Mario on these

48:52

games and if they say yes I can see

48:54

that really informing on intended as about it As

48:56

far as. Ah, rights are what's

48:58

your last story here. Kind of a

49:00

quick thing coming to X Box game

49:02

pass his leg go to Pay Drive

49:04

Ea Sports Pg two or Harold Halibut

49:06

and more of this for maggots for

49:08

at X box wire. My favorite part

49:11

about coming soon again passes that a

49:13

cookie turns into available today and that

49:15

includes a super Hot Mind Control delete

49:17

which is coming to Cloud Council on

49:19

Pc on game pass on their sports

49:21

games. Returning to gain past couldn't Super

49:23

Hot Mind Control delete I and it's

49:25

a mother's arms. I guess that's. What? That

49:27

that's what's available today and in the

49:30

coming soon includes loot Lego, two k

49:32

drive little gator games he a sports

49:34

pj to. Kona. Botany

49:36

Manner, Shadow, The Tomb Raider Definitive Edition

49:38

and Harold Halibut on. Say what? See

49:40

that Harold how the game looks very

49:43

interesting to me. I that some I'm

49:45

glad that's again pass because it's one.

49:47

Where am I? I. Think it

49:49

looks interesting but I awoke. I maybe would wait

49:51

for other people tell me it's a must play

49:53

A before I would dive into it. been a

49:55

game past. I mean I'll just check it out

49:57

and and play at myself. On but held how

49:59

the. That on stop motion looking video games where

50:01

guy a it just ah actually looks like a

50:04

stop motion movies but it's an interactive games and

50:06

I'm not sure how much like you control the

50:08

action may be. a lot of it is just

50:10

like a movie character over there and it's a

50:12

preset motions but either way it looks fantastic so

50:14

I'm glad it's going to get a chance to

50:16

really catch on with a lot of people. and

50:18

then I was like a good golf game so

50:21

he a sports Pj to are shown up in

50:23

here is a good sign or that a lot

50:25

more people and a plan that ah but yeah

50:27

how you feel about Dame Pasties Day Steve. Let

50:30

me live there are certain about early results.

50:32

Agree with a child place before you buy it's

50:34

it anyway. nazi of the son James other

50:36

me an email me I'm a huge proponent

50:38

of the demos to conceal disease or a disabled

50:40

person may not be able to play a game.

50:43

you'll know within the first three minutes. My

50:45

really sucks when didn't spend seventy bucks or

50:47

game and and museum. The. Approval

50:49

in Alexander Demos I think the impasse

50:51

those that really road I don't know

50:53

the financials, other political agenda which he

50:55

seeks a mega titles come in the

50:57

game past so it must not be

50:59

quite though Worst way to make a

51:01

buck as a studio. Yen.

51:03

And now you see a want a repeat customers

51:05

right to see Sega shop a lot of times

51:07

with their games and cap com is had a

51:10

couple games or go in there com and of

51:12

and was exo primal and game pass I think

51:14

it was and then I'm and now they're you

51:16

know they're back at it with their Path of

51:19

the Goddess game which is a single player adventure

51:21

game that was having trouble a budget and cat

51:23

comes like yeah we will put this new brand

51:25

new video game and again passed a one eyed

51:28

to me that continues to feel like a really

51:30

big deal. like a big publisher of s successful

51:32

publisher I kept. On that knows how to market

51:34

a game that knows that, can build an audience

51:36

with almost any things like know we a game

51:38

passes maybe the right way to put the first,

51:41

do that to sign that I think something is

51:43

working there at the same time. I don't know

51:45

much about the passes month long term growth seems

51:47

like it's reached all the gamers can reach so

51:49

I hope makes us happy with it because I

51:51

continue to be pretty happy with Game Pass myself.

51:54

I mean it's it's the surrogates hang on steroids

51:56

or that sits at my face. That's

51:58

right. does you ever use. The can I never had a

52:01

friend The How The Sideline got a chance to. You know it.

52:03

Or lol yeah love the because I was a.

52:06

O L doing my mom when I was a kid

52:08

says for go to Blockbuster as long as you like.

52:10

if I just did see the circuits and will you

52:12

stop and I'm like just isn't. That

52:15

a third my third month. Have

52:18

Pets Incredible. Ah right. so let's get

52:20

sued. The poor question from I didn't

52:22

leave. this is from Friday. We did

52:24

that April Fools episode on Monday where

52:26

I played Mario Maker instead. Are you

52:28

going to try the Stellar Blade demo?

52:30

Thirty nine percent said yes, Sixty one

52:32

percent said no. Ah, I tried to

52:34

steal or Blade demo. I thought that

52:37

games pretty fun. Steve I It is

52:39

very very much informed by a lot

52:41

of other games and it's very obvious

52:43

it's got a lot and near automata

52:45

lot of bayonetta, lot of second row.

52:47

By the Devil May Cry arm and I was

52:50

sides talking to I'll Shine who who were works

52:52

with a seer giant bomb and he was like

52:54

a pretty people kind of see what they what

52:56

they want to see in this game and terms

52:59

of the gameplay mechanics and actively think that's true

53:01

I was different seen a lot of sec route

53:03

you've seen one Devil May Cry on we are

53:05

I'm also like that since I'm like will surprise

53:08

it's like the demos after it's like oh a

53:10

big Playstation exclusive I was are people gonna try

53:12

it on only thirty nine percent saying yes I

53:14

wonder if this is game it's going to be

53:17

more word of mouth going to head is something

53:19

that you're interested in. For. Me

53:21

I remembered about so literally literally hearing about

53:23

now and units are just. We're certainly marketing

53:25

and love finding out of the games ever

53:27

on. I didn't have glue and I went

53:30

to name's for. Yeah. So

53:32

Stellar Blade is the one where if you see

53:34

people argue and online about the way women look

53:36

in video games this is this is the one

53:38

that's the one that is gonna mess and l

53:40

l a lot when we're like yeah you what

53:42

would we want to talk about this and a

53:44

lot of weird dude are getting very mad that

53:46

anyone suggests that it's were talking about of which

53:49

is just frustrating. So yeah that's where we're at

53:51

with all that. Ah, Alright,

53:53

we have another pull question. Really. get to a second before

53:55

we do that. See what do you tell people where the

53:57

could find you on the internet, what you have going on,

53:59

and much. Mind and what's more about the

54:01

are able gamers Gala. Gala.

54:04

People can find me Stevens on so

54:06

the slogan or the stainless steel hm

54:08

are just heard any were are slightly

54:10

different. Twitter being that they amplify like

54:12

the having both are you know it's

54:14

it's a Musgrave. Huge amounts of earth.

54:16

As good as he will. It,

54:20

that's it. Ah but the real reason

54:22

that I'm here today and surface bubbling

54:24

up with Muslim against is because of

54:27

the able gamers Gallon ah the Goa

54:29

54:31

he thinks thirty though he meets them

54:34

55:17

been refined and everybody. Ah all

55:19

55:21

new pool question is. Where.

55:23

Which are actually did that come with pull question

55:25

for days are you don't let the here? Here's

55:27

here's what I'm interested in now did you play

55:30

Navy or if you played the store by demo?

55:32

Did you like it or not? Yes or no

55:34

and in of course on the be up there

55:36

as I know I really didn't plan so we'll

55:38

get that up for yes I will talk about

55:40

that on the show tomorrow. Or. On here

55:42

on Giant Bomb Speak it a giant bomb Would

55:44

we have going on today? We are going to

55:47

play some more tech and on the get through

55:49

the story mode of second. I believe we skip

55:51

mom but much deeper into it but will likely

55:53

be able to see the end. And then there

55:55

is no Blake Club today Dan and Jan on

55:57

their way to Wrestlemania so instead we're going to

55:59

56:09
