0:30

What's up, everybody? Welcome to IGN Game Scoop. I'm

0:32

your host, Damon Hatfield.

0:34

Joining me this week are Sam Claiborne. It's

0:37

so good to be here. What a week. What a week

0:39

indeed, Sam. Justin Davis is here. Scoop.

0:42

And Mark Medina joins us once again. Hi,

0:45

Damon. Hello, Mark.

0:46

And no one else. I wanted you to be on the

0:48

show because I think

0:51

you'll have lots of funny things to say about

0:53

all the big news of the year. Which includes just

0:55

a completely massive and almost unbelievable Xbox

0:57

leak of court documents that were accidentally uploaded to the

0:59

court's website. And

1:04

now, man, have we learned a lot about

1:06

what Microsoft has planned for the next ten or so years. You

1:09

mean the FTC showcase? Yep,

1:12

yep. The FTC showcase. The

1:16

FTC Direct.

1:16

Now we got this leak. Yep. I

1:19

didn't start the leak. I didn't start the leak. I didn't

1:21

start the leak. The FTC Direct. Now we got this leak.

1:24

Yep. It's one of the best shows of the year. Definitely

1:26

better than the recent State of Play Nintendo Direct.

1:30

Yeah. But first, the

1:34

Xbox leak, as massive as it was,

1:36

was actually not the biggest news story of the week on

1:38

IGN. The biggest news story of the

1:40

week on IGN was the

1:42

completely pathetic switch

1:44

port of Mortal Kombat 1.

1:46

And what a joke that has turned out to

1:48

be. Yeah. You

1:51

reviewed it? Yeah. What did you give it? Four?

1:54

Three. Three? Three.

1:57

Yeah. Four to one threes this week. That's

1:59

a good week for threes on IGN.

2:00

And this is one of those Sorry,

2:03

sorry. I was just gonna say like this is one of those rare cases

2:05

where we had a content plan And then

2:07

this just completely like tore

2:09

it out because we're like, oh man, this is really funny It's

2:13

really cool. It is it looks like just for the

2:15

switch port So first of all when this was when

2:17

Mortal cover one was announced and we saw the

2:19

switch version We were like, huh, how's

2:22

that gonna turn out? Well, I think what what

2:24

they did is they just like Control

2:27

a or find all the facial animations

2:29

and then delete just delete all the facial

2:32

animations in the switch version And

2:37

I know like the switches old it's

2:39

old hardware right like I get it like I

2:41

sympathize with the people that had to get This port out, but

2:44

it's like they saw this they saw

2:46

this and they were like, yes release it and

2:48

release it for $70 I

2:51

wasn't did it is the head boom. I believe

2:53

promise to fix everything is like, yeah Is

3:01

that there's no Xbox one or ps4 that's

3:04

like now with next-gen

3:06

only except for the switch Yeah,

3:14

I mean I mean this does look like it looks like

3:16

Mortal Kombat from when we were kids It

3:19

does look like a PlayStation 2 era Mortal

3:22

Kombat maybe I get these the

3:24

switches in this Huge install

3:26

base they want, you know, they would love to be able to tap in that

3:28

audience but like And I know

3:30

that nether realm didn't make this port They've

3:32

farmed it out to you know a contractor

3:35

but like sure no one at nether realm like had

3:38

eyes on this Before it was released and so

3:40

it's like hold up. Maybe we

3:42

need to like know what they did Maybe this

3:44

is a $50 version on switch or something like that

3:48

The the problem is is that it's not even it's

3:50

not even the egregious load times or the

3:52

fact that it doesn't look great But

3:54

it actually is missing content that

3:56

the other versions have like there's just some story

3:59

mode things that they're just not in

4:01

the full game and so you're just like how how

4:04

do you strip this stuff out and

4:06

then still justify selling it for the exact

4:09

same price graphics I can get and

4:11

I get why they ship that content out because the game

4:13

would probably run even worse but like at

4:15

some point you have to kind of realize that

4:18

that makes the value less it's

4:21

so strange it's like what whatever sales

4:23

they can get off of like impulse purchases

4:26

of more casual gamers who

4:28

just see it at Target and like I like I like modal

4:30

combat I'll get that like does that offset all the

4:32

bad publicity that they're getting now

4:34

and like all the the the

4:37

online mockery of this port of the game

4:39

I don't know I mean the thing

4:41

is you have like the behind the scenes of porting

4:43

this because the fatalities are so

4:45

unbelievably ridiculous but they would

4:47

have had the assets from the the

4:50

main games that the X-gen games

4:52

and they would have been like how are we gonna recreate these

4:54

they're like well we can't do as many brains

4:57

in this we're gonna have to just fill this with

4:59

like the strawberry jam what

5:01

about those eyes popping out they're like that's fine

5:04

but you know we're gonna have to you

5:06

know reduce the smile under it like it's

5:08

a completely crazy the developer took

5:10

the brain slider and just toggled

5:13

it down someone yeah no

5:15

more brains it's like the thing is

5:17

it's like modal combat it's a one

5:19

is a beautiful gorgeous game on

5:21

that chin cuz I agree it's like so and

5:24

so that also but it

5:26

doesn't just look bad and perform

5:28

bad compared to that like

5:31

it's not like switch games look

5:33

in and and have frame rates

5:35

and load times so much better than this

5:38

like across the board so it's like what

5:40

went wrong what happened yeah yeah

5:43

it kind of reminds me of Pokemon these

5:45

new games where it's like well the switch is underpowered

5:47

but it's like but then tears of the kingdom runs perfectly

5:50

so like they're like maybe not perfect but like so

5:52

there's some sort of like yeah it's like what happened

5:54

why does scarlet and violet run so bad but

5:57

to the kingdom doesn't like I guess that's

5:59

a hard is underpowered but like you

6:01

just need two characters on the screen at once

6:03

that's it. This

6:06

is actually a good demonstration of the

6:09

very recent much talked about argument

6:12

about why IGN

6:14

doesn't give out you know the exact

6:16

perfect arc of numbers all

6:19

the time and it's because you know

6:21

IGN doesn't review every game that comes out we

6:23

review the games that are appealing in some way or

6:25

of unsub significance so a port

6:27

to switch of Mortal Kombat we actually didn't consider

6:30

reviewing that until we saw it and we're like oh

6:32

this is worth you know advising people

6:34

about and got a low score and you

6:37

know for any popular game or

6:39

game that's getting players we'd review it but there was

6:41

a time you know I kind of

6:43

missed this error just got the end of it where

6:45

IGN this before the iphone really did

6:48

really did try to review every single game that

6:50

was out when I thought it was like yeah

6:53

that was like every game on the Game Boy Advance

6:55

and believe me it was a lot of

6:57

games yeah and you saw a lot more tens

7:00

then which was funny and you saw

7:02

a lot more twos and you got it

7:04

was just like that's what happened that's when you get that

7:06

bell curve that that shapes out where you have to actually

7:08

tell people poor this

7:10

game is poor or worse than poor because

7:13

like you can't get past level three and that's happened

7:15

at IGN since I've worked here there was

7:17

a there's a bubble level game that like had some

7:19

kind of game breaking bug and no no way to update

7:22

it or the ds I believe do you

7:24

remember that and you couldn't get past

7:26

level 35 or something because of this and they're

7:28

like well that's that's

7:31

that's a one on our scale they

7:33

enjoyed it till that level to be fair all the tens

7:35

in that era stopped once Craig Harris didn't work here

7:37

anymore that's right yeah and GB Color

7:40

Games stopped coming out uh

7:44

we gave Mortal Kombat 1 for Switch of three it's not

7:46

the only three we've given this year we gave something

7:48

called Grey Hell Incident of three in June

7:52

and I think we gave something I wish the name of the game

7:54

was called something called Grey we

7:57

gave something called Testament the order

7:59

of high human a 2 in

8:01

July and I never heard of that. Are

8:04

either of those Travis Northup reviews or

8:07

are both of them Travis Northup reviews? That one is

8:09

Testament is a Travis Northup

8:11

review. Oh, I got off. Oh, sometimes

8:14

our site. Sometimes our

8:17

site, I will admit a little

8:19

bit tricky to navigate. Let's

8:21

see. Grey Hill incident. Also Travis Northup that

8:23

that poor man. I

8:27

wonder, I don't know why we reviewed those games

8:30

and there would have been like a reason based on marketing

8:33

or like some kind of interest from a trailer

8:36

we had is like a common way we make that

8:38

call. But I think sometimes like

8:40

we welcome people to pitch us on like,

8:42

Hey, I'm playing this game right now. I'd

8:44

kind of like to review it for IGN. Sometimes that

8:46

would come about, although that would frequently or that

8:49

would rarely result in a two. Yeah, guess

8:51

what I'm playing right now. I can't wait to review this to.

8:54

Yeah, around any corner

8:56

within every battle and with

8:58

the dawn of each new day, the

9:01

threat of the unexpected, the unpredictable

9:04

and the unrelenting lies in

9:06

wait. But Marines will

9:08

always be there. They're the constant

9:11

in the chaos. No matter the battlefield,

9:14

Marines adapt to win, defeating

9:16

every shift in breath, protecting

9:19

our nation's future.

9:20

View the

9:22

proud Marines.

9:25

Scoop Nation, the fall is an exciting

9:27

time. It's back to school and we've got Halloween

9:29

and the holidays coming up. But all that also

9:32

makes the fall pretty busy and it can be hard to find

9:34

the time to cook healthy, delicious meals for yourself

9:36

and your family. That's where Factor Meals

9:38

come in. Factor Meals are America's number

9:41

one ready to eat meal kit. They're chef

9:43

prepared, dietician approved and delivered

9:45

straight to your door. Just two minutes in the microwave

9:47

and you'll be digging into a meal like herb grilled chicken

9:50

with goat cheese, polenta and roasted cauliflower

9:52

or an artichoke and parmesan pork chop with

9:54

a roasted corn salsa and cilantro lime

9:57

sour cream. I like the roasted garlic chicken

9:59

with green beans and macadam. mashed potatoes. It's just 400 calories

10:01

and delicious. For real, I have another

10:04

box of Factor Meals arriving today as I record

10:06

this, and I think I'll have the apple mustard

10:08

pork chop with sweet potato mash and brussel

10:10

sprouts tonight. Everything I've tried has been really

10:12

tasty, including the shakes and juices. There's

10:14

no chopping, prepping, and best of all, no

10:17

clean up. You choose the meals you want online,

10:19

and they're delivered right to your door. If

10:21

all this is making you hungry, you can head to factormeals.com

10:24

slash scoop 50 and use code scoop 50

10:27

to get 50% off. That's

10:29

10:31

slash scoop 50 to get 50% off. Okay,

10:40

let's move on to the massive

10:42

Xbox leaks this year. There's so much

10:44

to dig into. None of

10:50

it is really that damaging

10:53

to Xbox's reputation or anything. It's

10:55

not just about the Xbox leak. It's not stuff that makes

10:57

Xbox look bad. We didn't learn any dirty secrets of Xbox.

11:01

It's all kind of cool, right? Kind

11:03

of. It's like crime

11:05

news. It could be bad for them business-wise

11:07

just because everybody knows their secrets. That's what I'm saying.

11:10

It was kind of cool and exciting for us to

11:12

just get all of the stuff that was going

11:14

to be announced over the next several years ahead

11:16

of time. I'm sure that that's frustrating

11:18

and embarrassing for Microsoft, but I didn't think

11:21

there was anything that painted them in a particularly negative

11:23

light. But Justin, do you disagree? I

11:26

mean, no. None of it's that

11:29

extreme. The one that jumped to mind when I said kind

11:31

of was when Phil Spencer emailed all of

11:33

his lieutenants. Matt

11:35

Booty and all these names that people that follow the industry

11:37

know. Basically, guys, they had

11:39

no games. That dry spell that they

11:43

had. No games coming

11:45

out. I've sent emails

11:47

like this. I've received emails like this. I've

11:51

worked in professional environments for a long

11:53

time, but the email is kind

11:55

of testy and kind

11:57

of slightly panicked. I'm like, what are we going

11:59

to do? Xbox

14:00

was like, hey, we're actually going to do a

14:02

showcase. And then they showed, this

14:04

is the console we got coming out. We got fallout three,

14:06

oblivion. That would have blown everybody's

14:09

mind. And now they don't really get to do

14:11

that. They're going to announce two consoles

14:13

next year that people, and we already know what

14:15

they look like. We, it's not even

14:17

a guess. We see that. They're going to have to

14:19

do it with a, with a goof on stage, right?

14:22

I mean, Oh, a hundred percent. You would

14:24

think that I think about, I

14:26

mean, I think they'll say you guys aren't good enough

14:28

to have this console. If you guys want to read all of these

14:30

leaked things about our consoles, then we're keeping it. I

14:34

think about the PlayStation showcase we had earlier this

14:36

year, which wasn't great, but what

14:38

made it worse in the eyes of like the

14:40

public, right? Was that Metal Gear solid

14:42

three remake was there like big thing

14:44

and it leaked right before the showcase. So

14:47

then when it showed up in the showcase,

14:49

everyone's like, well, we already know about this. Well, it's technically

14:52

not PlayStation's fault. It leaked, right? That

14:54

would have been a cool, really big surprise.

14:57

And that's what's going to happen now is they're going to show

14:59

fallout three and the new consoles

15:01

and all that stuff. And it's kind of going to land

15:03

in a thud, but that's not their

15:05

fault. It's well, it's their fault because they

15:08

work careless with their documents and it leaked, but

15:10

other than that, like in the eyes of like

15:12

the public, it's like, well, I'm,

15:16

I'm, I'm curious how they're

15:18

going to drum up excitement for that Alexa

15:20

looking console. That's going to be interesting. You're

15:22

talking about the, uh, the sort of refresh next year for

15:25

the Brooklyn. Yeah. Yeah. Like they, they

15:27

have to, they were seeing it right now and

15:30

Phil Spencer was expecting to show

15:33

this at summer game fester, whatever

15:35

next year, what we've seen it now, we

15:37

know exactly what it looks like. We know everything

15:39

about it. We know that it's not more powerful, but

15:41

that it just has, you know, more

15:44

USB slots and it's discless and stuff

15:46

like that. So I really don't

15:48

understand how they're going to hype it up now. In

15:50

that sense, like the industry is kind of built on

15:52

hype and they're going to show something we've already

15:54

seen. It's, it's unfortunate

15:57

for them. Yeah. I don't envy that position.

16:00

confused about this slide because I don't

16:02

I still don't know what adorably all

16:04

digital that's what I wanted to bring out. So I

16:07

was I was I was on I was working on this story

16:13

when it was first breaking and working

16:16

with our news writers on it. And my

16:18

first glance at this very first slide

16:20

was I was like, hey, we

16:22

got to look into this. This looks a little like

16:24

you know, they saw somebody share it on Twitter.

16:27

And I was like, we need to source this

16:29

and figure this out properly. Like we always do. But

16:31

I immediately was like, this is fake. I mean, look,

16:33

look, Brooklyn is spelled wrong. Yeah, why

16:36

did they all broken that way?

16:38

Yeah, and then the adorably all digitalized like this looks

16:40

like an AI designed this this thing.

16:42

And of course, it improves sustainability stories

16:45

kind of funny also. But you know, whatever

16:47

iteration of this slide is, I just thought was weird. Maybe

16:49

it's tiny. Maybe it is real. It's not you know,

16:51

it's not like a fake slide.

16:54

This is like an internal slide. They would,

16:56

you know, show people at Xbox

16:58

and Microsoft what their plans were. And I could also show

17:00

it to third party partners as

17:02

well. But yeah, it's called their

17:05

Xbox Series X refresh is codenamed Brooklyn,

17:07

they spelled Brooklyn wrong, intentionally, I

17:09

guess. And then they say the most powerful

17:12

Xbox ever now adorably

17:14

all digital. And

17:16

I don't I don't know, my my guess is, my

17:19

guess is going off what Sam says, maybe it's smaller

17:22

than we think. And that's where they're trying to pull

17:24

the adorable from because they've removed the disk

17:26

drive. It's now been you know, by the time

17:28

this comes out, it'll have been nearly four years since

17:30

the original Series X. Maybe they found

17:32

a way to make it like actually very

17:35

tiny. And it's probably actually

17:37

the size of an Alexa device, which you can see the button

17:39

there is X logo, which is probably showing

17:41

that you know, the size of anything kind of the grill on the top,

17:43

it looks a little smaller, maybe I think also

17:46

like with stuff like this, like what this is,

17:48

is it represents some iteration of somebody's

17:50

presentation? Yeah, they could have been

17:53

in their, you know, 1.2 version of

17:55

and swapping words around and doing

17:57

all kinds of stuff like why it ended up in this

17:59

pot. Attached to these documents

18:01

is a complete mystery to us. I

18:04

mean that's the that's the other thing that makes us devastating

18:06

So it's like if this is if all these announcements

18:09

are real it's devastating and if these

18:11

announcements are not real It's devastating. I

18:13

mean, we know that we know that they're real in

18:15

the sense that they're real You know, they're real from

18:17

Xbox, but it doesn't mean like this slide

18:19

could be anything this slide could have been

18:22

like Hypothetically, what if we

18:24

made something like this? Like we don't know

18:26

for sure, right? And so yeah, like,

18:29

you know the stuff like, you know, maybe they

18:31

can maybe the oblivion, you know We make has been

18:33

canceled like because because

18:35

it wasn't working out like we don't know and

18:38

so that that like it's that's what

18:40

makes This so like heartbreaking for

18:42

Xbox is they're so damned if they do and damned

18:44

if they don't like the wind is taken out of their

18:46

Sales when they do, you know blow

18:48

the doors off this stuff And then if it never comes

18:51

like and then the expectation has been

18:53

set already there must be if they don't do that oblivion

18:55

Remake that's gonna suck so bad. That

18:57

was such a good idea I was like it's and

18:59

I remember that was supposed to be planned for this fall,

19:02

which is amazing

19:03

Well,

19:04

I think it was Noah's plan for last year. We'll

19:06

get to the game last year How do you announce games

19:08

a little bit timeline the alternate timeline?

19:11

There must be a feeling internally Xbox that they

19:13

just can't catch a break because

19:15

like after all this time like starfield

19:18

finally comes out Mostly

19:21

positive with some mixed reactions there, but they

19:23

you know, it's certainly an inter Big

19:25

success in terms of how many people are playing it 10 million

19:27

players But then this happened immediately

19:30

after the launch of starfield like they just can't like

19:32

get a get a W Yeah,

19:34

how are their showcase from summer

19:36

game fest was actually really good Yeah

19:38

Like I I thought that they had a really

19:41

good show get way better than the PlayStation

19:43

one that happened a month earlier And so

19:45

yeah, you kind of feel like you're like, alright, we're

19:47

getting there this Xbox It's

19:49

been the show come on. Gax box where it's been

19:52

like, you know, it's coming the good

19:54

is coming Yeah, just wait till next year

19:56

and it does kind of feel like we're getting there and it's stuff

19:59

like this is Very unfortunate

20:02

how um how happy is unity

20:04

unity this week that all this happened From

20:09

unity Yeah

20:12

If this if this refresh of the Xbox Series

20:15

X is all digital I think that might be the

20:17

most significant piece of information

20:20

in all of this Because that'll

20:22

mean that echo boxes flagship console

20:25

is now all digital first of all So

20:27

it's gonna be the same price. They're not lowering the price

20:29

of the Series X so Ostensibly

20:32

it offers less value

20:34

for the same cost But

20:37

that means like it's like I think they're just

20:39

flipping the switch I think Microsoft is flipping the

20:41

switch to be an all digital Console

20:44

company. I don't think their next generation Xbox

20:46

which they all plans that also leaked here

20:49

plan for 2028 I don't think after this they'll

20:51

go back to having a disk drive So like

20:54

is this what is the next generation of disk drives

20:56

are very small and they can include those

20:58

maybe a gamecube I think we'll be I think

21:00

we'll be moving small I think we'll be going

21:03

back to the days of the HD DVD

21:05

add-on where they'll be like just like It'll

21:08

be an accessory. He brought that up in a meeting

21:10

Damon laughs so hard like harder

21:12

than I've heard him laugh in a very long time Little

21:16

mini Xbox and how it looked it was like the tiny

21:18

little ancillary Xbox 360 next

21:21

to the Xbox. Yeah It

21:23

was just very funny era. I mean and also

21:25

like I mean, you know, there was a brief era

21:28

people still do this I know but it's just funny to have

21:30

a disk drive next to your computer too cuz like no laptops

21:33

Well now these Mac books they don't come to strives anymore I

21:35

mean the the rumors about the ps5

21:37

slimmer also that has like either a modular

21:40

disk drive or it's detachable or something Too it's like

21:43

is this it or is it happening now? Are we

21:45

going to be all digital future now?

21:47

Would they I mean, but it's not if it's still like

21:50

the ps4 ps5

21:52

digital is a hundred bucks cheaper So

21:54

if this is an all-digital Xbox, but it's still 500 bucks.

21:57

That's like, yeah It

22:00

has to be accompanied with like cost savings for the

22:02

consumer like why would anybody give us like why

22:04

would you care? Well, it's like this one

22:07

Is this one just the hardware because there's something

22:09

one of them that they talked about was a 1.5 that right

22:11

that was a That no

22:13

so they they document showing their

22:16

their yeah their actual next console

22:18

But it the the details are super

22:21

fresh a 1.5 because it knows the most

22:23

powerful Xbox ever That's just what they call the

22:25

series most powerful Xbox ever is

22:27

now adorably digital So they're

22:30

using the exact is now yeah,

22:32

this one doesn't have any actual like performance

22:35

improvements at all It's just okay theoretically

22:37

going to be smaller and all digital but their

22:39

next console which they said is coming out 2028 which

22:42

I think most people could have guessed that's usually like

22:44

the life cycle they

22:47

said it's going to be a like

22:50

console cloud hybrid so it that

22:52

even further like Makes me

22:54

think that yeah disk drives are probably they

22:56

kind of had their day Time

22:59

for me to get on my high horse about this. Yeah.

23:01

Yeah, it's the time sure okay? People

23:04

people's internet in the United States sucks people's

23:06

internet in the world is even worse. It's

23:08

so bad everywhere I am that I'm

23:10

in an amazing internet zone and

23:13

I the game that I play this week Which I can talk about now

23:15

cyberpunk and Liberty Oh that

23:18

game had I'd read download cyberpunk and

23:20

I'd read and download San Liberty and

23:22

a 2.0 update Like it that

23:24

took hours On like I

23:26

live I live like a boutique company

23:29

feeding fiber optic internet to my house like

23:32

To get a launch game is gonna

23:34

suck for so many people that

23:37

have to use these Digital

23:39

only systems it's gonna be that Game

23:42

stop is just they're just gonna die like

23:44

it They're already kind of struggling

23:46

and their business is based off of used

23:49

games and use games are just gonna go away The

23:53

same stuff we talked on scoop a lot about game

23:55

preservation and so on and so forth yes

23:58

How many of those digital? games will you actually end up

24:01

owning as you subscribing to a service

24:03

and all this other stuff right like your

24:06

your game library is gonna be very weird

24:08

in 10 years and maybe taken

24:10

from you. Yeah. I don't know.

24:13

I'm just surprised. I'm just surprised that

24:15

it would be happening this soon and that they'd that

24:18

they'd be this it's it would be like

24:22

a huge shift in industry and

24:24

X-Bets is calling it adorable. Yeah.

24:27

Yeah. Can you imagine what the final

24:30

hard packaged Xbox game will

24:32

be like that's gonna be a really cool moment.

24:35

You know, also gonna be like Just Dance 2025.

24:38

Yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah.

24:41

It probably will be. Well, I mean, they'll they'll

24:43

keep making physical games at least

24:45

until 2028 because the Series X

24:48

and PS5 still exist. Yeah. Like

24:50

so those aren't going away. This isn't meant to replace

24:52

the Series X. When I first saw it, I was like,

24:55

Oh, I got to buy a new console next year. And then I saw that there's

24:57

zero like performance upgrades and

24:59

there's no point. Yeah. So if

25:01

you own a Series X, this is a technically

25:04

like it would be kind of a downgrade. Yeah.

25:07

Except for that. It's just kind of small. But

25:09

you're just you're getting rid of something for the same price. And

25:11

it's just now it's just digital. There's

25:14

no other reason to own it. Yeah. Someone

25:16

will clip that. Do we think they are doing

25:19

a heavier duty better performing console

25:21

before their next gen? Well, nothing

25:24

about that. Phil said no. He's

25:26

already said no. And I get

25:28

that that doesn't mean anything. But like, yeah, the fact

25:30

that none of that leaked leads me

25:32

to believe he said the Series X is

25:34

our mid console refresh. And

25:36

seeing this digital one release

25:39

is, you know, leak and is coming out

25:41

next year. They even have it down to the month.

25:43

We know what month it's coming out. Yeah.

25:46

October shows that no, I doubt there's going to

25:48

be a pro version, which is weird because there's been a lot

25:50

of rumors about a PS5 Pro. So

25:53

we'll see. Cyberpunk's a little Uggo on it, that's

25:55

all disappointing. On Xbox? Yeah.

26:00

It's too bad. What

26:02

would this do? What does this mean for like smaller

26:05

boutique firms like limited run games?

26:09

Like all they do is make physical games Oh

26:12

like a lot of booklets I suppose, right? I'll

26:15

get yeah, I guess I'll have to ramp up. I just got the

26:17

not from limited run But I just got the tunic booklet.

26:20

Oh cool, which is the hard the hard version

26:22

of the tunic, um booklet But here's the problem.

26:24

This drives me crazy It came sealed

26:27

with a little sticker on it and the sticker super cool.

26:30

I'm never gonna open that The

26:32

whole point of this thing is that it's a collector a

26:34

cool collector thing And I

26:36

really wanted to see what it looked like in print But i'm not going to

26:38

crack that seal what monster

26:41

what monster would crack the seal on a book?

26:44

That was made for collectors and

26:46

has a cool sticker on the the wrapping seal.

26:48

Like hmm I mean

26:50

I would But but

26:53

you first yeah, I might buy two I

26:55

did open all my amiibo, you know, and I don't

26:57

I didn't regret that Um, I only

27:00

I only I I've all my amiibo

27:02

are still in the packages But I

27:04

did buy two once and I bought

27:06

the wolf link because I was like this

27:08

is going to be so helpful in breath A while I used it for

27:10

like a week and then I was like Don't

27:13

let pair hear that because he'll call you the

27:15

villain from toy story too. Right if you found

27:17

that He calls me that all the time. I mean I

27:20

I just like point at pears collection and be like Look,

27:23

look at look at these valueless pieces of

27:25

toys plastic here Like what

27:27

have you done man, and then I can just send them a link

27:30

to you know, a gold

27:32

mega man from

27:34

the collection sealed

27:37

in minted box I

27:39

don't know like i'm sure Microsoft

27:41

has the data Um, the

27:43

series s is more popular than the series x

27:46

we know that now They

27:48

have the data that nine what 85 percent

27:50

of their game sales are digital maybe 90 percent

27:53

So it's like from from their perspective. Sure.

27:56

I get it. But also gamers, you

27:58

know hardcore gamers ijin fans They

28:00

love their physical games and they're very vocal about

28:02

that. So like when Xbox

28:05

announces this, they're going to have a real uphill

28:07

battle against that vocal

28:09

community who wants their physical games. What

28:12

if that at the time they made the slide,

28:14

which was potentially three or four years

28:16

ago or something, what if at the time they made

28:18

the slide they were planning on releasing the

28:21

Series X for more money? And

28:23

so this is a discount.

28:27

What if the Series X was going to be $750 and so

28:30

then they list this as like whatever, $500.

28:33

The slide doesn't end. It does? That's

28:37

not good. That's not good

28:39

for my conspiracy theory. Justin's

28:42

got my wheels turning now because like this

28:44

is, again, this is a marketing slide where they're

28:46

pitching this to their own company, right?

28:49

On the bottom left there it says giving our fans

28:51

more to love. Right.

28:54

And so obviously there's not a picture of a console. There's

28:56

a digital image. And

28:59

so it makes me wonder like is this one

29:01

of like four of this

29:03

image but different

29:06

iterations? Like this team is like

29:08

this is what the new one should look like. Yeah.

29:11

And then another team is like they're pitching their version

29:13

of what the next one will look like. We have to be a

29:15

little bit cautious with stuff like that. Like it does feel

29:17

like they're getting their talking points in order,

29:19

right? Like hey, it's better for sustainability

29:22

and you know, giving our fans more to love

29:24

like these kind of talking points. I don't know what

29:27

all new more immersive controller means. Oh

29:30

no, they detailed it. They have a new controller coming on

29:32

next year. Oh, I didn't see that. It's

29:34

got pants on. I didn't even see

29:36

the controller. It's got a little little pants.

29:39

Tom, pull up the image if you have it. That could

29:41

be pants in the American vernacular

29:44

or British vernacular because it kind of looks like panties.

29:47

Yeah, it has motion controls, right? No,

29:50

it's just got haptic feedback. I think it is

29:52

gyro, right? I don't

29:54

think so. It's

29:56

haptic? Yeah, because

29:58

you know haptic was... You know

30:01

kind of a dual sense thing like turning

30:03

sound into vibration even though sound

30:06

is vibration So that's them.

30:08

You know kind of adding that To

30:10

I know right That's that's

30:12

them adding that to this controller. It's gonna have quieter

30:15

buttons and all that stuff the controller actually looks

30:17

pretty sick I'll handle

30:19

a crit. Oh And then

30:21

the other thing is this is kind of a weird thing with

30:23

you already have an accelerometer or is

30:25

mark did mark miss that I? Don't

30:27

know what an accelerometer is what's I'm talking

30:30

about man. It's motion controls You

30:33

said gyro well well what

30:35

there's just now a first they said motion control

30:38

got it Okay, I probably I probably

30:40

missed it I know the big thing was happy but also like

30:43

this is this is built for I think it's built

30:45

for cloud Yeah on the top left there So this

30:47

is a kind of a play on the stadia controller because

30:50

what made the stadia controller so cool was that

30:52

the controller itself? Could

30:54

link to Wi-Fi so it would reduce

30:56

input lag When playing a game

30:58

live or playing a game on the cloud, and they're

31:01

adding that to this controller So

31:04

you see a way back from other lift

31:06

to wake I don't need that my kids will find my Xbox

31:09

controller wherever I put it I had to take the batteries out

31:11

because they just will find it and turn it on all the time Yep

31:16

That's funny every controller is just dead

31:18

constantly yep This

31:20

one's also rechargeable yay, yeah,

31:22

so this one's supposed with mark. This is supposed to be coming out next

31:25

year Yeah,

31:27

this is earlier next year. Do you it's

31:29

a weird staggered release It's controller

31:31

then the new series s and

31:34

then a few months later. It's the series

31:36

X Yeah, but is that is that the timeline

31:38

and earth zero timeline which has the Bethesda

31:41

games out this year? You

31:43

want to get to it you want to get to the unannounced games? There's lots

31:45

of good. Yes Yeah, there's

31:47

a list of games all from Bethesda, and it was

31:49

from before they're acquired by Microsoft. This

31:52

is 2020 I think when this

31:54

list was put together, and it was there like release

31:56

schedule over the next several years So obviously a

31:58

lot of things changed But in 2022, they plan

32:00

to have the Oblivion remaster and

32:04

the Indiana Jones game. Now

32:07

obviously Indiana Jones didn't happen, we're still away on that. The

32:09

Oblivion remaster hasn't even been announced. But

32:13

like Sam- Sky Bolivians. Like

32:16

Sam, I hope that's true because I've never played Oblivion. Me

32:19

neither. I can't, like I'll pay

32:21

for the horse armor, just give it to me. Oh

32:24

man, Oblivion's really good. Yeah, I mean, you

32:26

know, you would think, so okay,

32:28

video games, I've talked many, many times, it's impossible

32:31

to make a big AAA video game anymore. Like they

32:33

just take years and years and years. And so like,

32:35

it feels like every game is delayed, right?

32:38

But like, I think a company like Bethesda would

32:40

get pretty good at

32:42

like having a sense of like,

32:44

yes, this is a five year project, right? Like

32:47

just to be so far off by a magnitude of

32:49

years on these projects is interesting

32:52

to me. Yeah. They also, maybe

32:54

you're about to get into it, Damon. Like I can't

32:56

believe more people aren't talking about

32:59

supposedly according to that leak, Elder Scrolls

33:01

VI is supposed to come out like only one year.

33:03

So after- Yeah. Well, yeah,

33:05

yeah, yeah. Next year. Well, right.

33:08

But like, but match it to Starfield, right? Like

33:10

it's not, everyone has been assuming that

33:12

it's six plus years after Starfield

33:15

and not according to Bethesda, it's only what,

33:17

two years after or one year after? Yeah.

33:20

Wonderful, you know. Bethesda

33:23

of 2020, correct? Yeah, yeah, but I

33:25

mean, so I'm not like don't focus on the fact that

33:27

supposedly it was coming out this year, but supposedly it was

33:29

coming out, it was fast following Starfield

33:32

by so much. And that actually gets me super

33:34

hyped because like that might, even though this

33:36

release calendar is super, super wrong, like

33:39

that's really- Yeah, maybe they have been working on Skyrim concurrently.

33:42

Right, yeah, like that's the clue is

33:44

that Elder Scrolls VI is like deeper in development

33:46

than maybe we assumed it was. And

33:48

we have to take all of our level designers off

33:51

of Skyrim or off of Starfield

33:53

and have them make Elder Scrolls. That's

33:56

easy because Starfield didn't have level designers.

33:58

It's all just- Exactly, anti-plan. Get them all

34:00

out of there, just randomly generate some caves, throw

34:03

these idiots some caves, and then we will

34:06

put you guys on castle. But sir,

34:08

don't these planets need to have things on them to explore

34:11

and see? No, don't worry

34:13

about it. Should they have rivers

34:15

at least? No, no rivers. Are

34:17

we even doing what we've been playing section? Cause I'll save

34:19

why I stopped playing Starfield. Yeah, we'll

34:21

do that. This is also under the assumption

34:24

that Starfield was supposed to come out last year,

34:26

right? Cause at that time they

34:28

thought it was a 2022 game. So

34:31

then in 2023, they planned to have Doom

34:33

year zero and it's DLC not

34:36

even announced yet. A whole new Doom

34:38

prequel, I guess. It's gotta be a prequel, that

34:40

sounds awesome. I mean, sure. I wanna know why

34:42

Doom guy, I wanna know why he does what

34:45

he does. Ryan McCaffrey says

34:47

that they've done Doom, they've

34:50

rebooted the first Doom game three times

34:52

already. And I

34:55

started for me to keep track, but I love that. And

34:58

it would be even better if this was Doom without demons.

35:03

It's just like Contra or something, you know, it's just like

35:06

Rambo in the jungle. No, it's Starfield, he's

35:08

on Mars with just nothing there. Nothing

35:11

there, that's it. Before

35:14

the attack. And then- They saved

35:16

level designers, they can send them over to work on

35:18

Elder Scrolls. They

35:21

had two other projects planned for this year, Project Kestrel

35:23

and Project Platinum. Don't know what

35:25

those are, we're pretty sure that Kestrel is an MMO,

35:28

because it's from, it's

35:30

been talked about by ZeniMax and the Elder

35:34

Scrolls Online folks before, so

35:36

some kind of a new MMO. But then 2024, this is so insane.

35:41

Think about how infrequently Bethesda

35:43

releases games. In 2024, somehow

35:46

they were going to deliver Elder Scrolls 6, an

35:48

expansion for Project Kestrel, a licensed

35:51

IP game, the Fallout 3 remaster, a

35:53

sequel to Ghostwire Tokyo, Dishonored 3

35:55

and more DLC for Doom Year Zero. I

35:58

mean, I wonder how much of that is like- The

36:00

company was trying to be sold at that time. Okay.

36:03

Yeah, like yeah like

36:05

and I'm not accusing them Like that would be like

36:07

corporate fraud like so like but like maybe

36:09

they're trying to like big up They're like just the most

36:12

optimistic rosy view of

36:15

like if every single studio had all their deadlines

36:17

like yeah, you know Yeah,

36:21

I mean no matter what like Things Seeing

36:25

this is like the just through the prism

36:27

of you know Our reality got kovat

36:29

is kind of crazy, right? Yeah, like I mean

36:31

there's there's there's just so many more reasons

36:34

why these got delayed now. It's just insane

36:37

So we know about yeah, Indiana Jones.

36:39

What is this other licensed IP game? They have

36:42

I know what but that's the Licenses

36:44

would they be going after I don't know. That's

36:47

very interesting Remember we were David

36:49

and I were in a meeting earlier this week and somebody mentioned

36:51

that one of the Bethesda's earliest games is a Terminator

36:53

game Yeah, I wasn't aware

36:56

that but apparently like other people like

36:58

right Howard actually

37:00

actually worked on I think I think those are like

37:02

you see E Terminator Mm-hmm

37:06

pretty cool. It's interesting. They were planning a Ghostwire

37:08

Tokyo sequel one of those plans have changed because No,

37:11

man. No But

37:14

there's no mention in any of this is no mention of deathloop

37:18

Which came out only 20 and then

37:21

so I guess they don't didn't think they were gonna do a sequel to deathloop

37:24

I like that loop. Well, but that that wasn't out

37:26

when this document like why isn't it on this

37:28

document? That's what I'm saying Yeah, well,

37:31

yeah We never had

37:33

one. Is that one of the code names?

37:35

Is that one of the code name games? It didn't have an oh well,

37:38

except those are those were planned for 2023.

37:40

That would mean it would have shipped to you early Never

37:43

mind. Yeah, I don't know. Hey dishonored

37:46

three. I'll take it. I'm glad they're still

37:48

talking about dishonors So

37:50

good. I know. Well could one of those code

37:52

names have been redfall then

37:56

Maybe except it

37:59

was announced Redfall was supposed to be out

38:01

last year and those projects are for this year. So I don't

38:04

know Yeah, of course when they were

38:06

required by Microsoft, maybe More

38:09

resources meant some things to be pushed up. I don't know

38:12

Although it didn't look like Redfall had all the resources

38:15

it needed. What does any of this have to do with

38:17

them acquiring activation? I Mean,

38:20

yeah, it's just interesting that I got

38:22

these documents were subpoenas I guess they were

38:24

but like it's just crazy How much the

38:26

court is seeing on basing

38:29

a decision on buying a completely different company? I

38:31

tried looking into but like I don't understand. I

38:33

don't understand the mumbo joke But basically

38:36

it's like they submitted a document that

38:39

Is super like redacted and stuff like that But

38:42

if you downloaded the document and then opened

38:44

it up and like acrobat there

38:46

were things secretly attached to it And

38:49

it was just all of this And

38:51

that's what's like weird is like not

38:53

only is that not great for the leak But it makes me wonder

38:56

was any of that even supposed to be submitted

38:58

to the FTC or did it just like

39:00

it's for some reason Got attached

39:02

to a document that they attached and or

39:05

that they meant to send it in So that none

39:07

of that is for FTC stuff. Is that

39:09

Microsoft's fault or the FTC's

39:11

fault? Microsoft they FTC

39:14

is already proven that they're like that. We didn't leak

39:16

it Okay Okay,

39:19

no, I haven't read that aspect of the story So

39:22

I'm happy to take that at face value except that the

39:24

FTD FTC is extremely

39:26

motivated Like to declare

39:28

it not right. All right, so but

39:31

yeah, yeah Microsoft is supposed

39:33

to upload their own redacted documents to this

39:35

court website I believe it's their lawyers that do

39:37

it. So I think it was yeah

39:40

some lawyer had a really bad had a really

39:42

bad week I just think if they'll

39:44

responded I would think he would be you I think

39:46

he would be a little more blame me if I

39:49

bet I bet the lawyer was a was

39:51

a was a Mac user and then Microsoft

39:53

is like nah nah No, you got to use my you got to use

39:55

Windows what

40:00

I'm doing on this thing. I don't

40:02

even know how to open a program. Like all these other

40:04

people like I'm lost. If

40:06

you if you work for Microsoft, you just some

40:09

random like your designer, you work

40:11

on the Xbox marketing team like you're probably

40:13

like, are you allowed to use the Mac? Can they use

40:15

Mac? I don't think so. Can you imagine? I mean,

40:18

I can't imagine so. I don't

40:21

know. Somebody's gotta. So

40:25

what about? Okay, so what about the people?

40:27

What about the people at Microsoft that make the

40:29

Mac versions of like Microsoft?

40:32

Yeah, they have to emulate.

40:34

They get a Mac emulator

40:37

like look, you have to vary like they're

40:39

in the back office. They're using

40:41

like Macs from like early 2000s. You

40:44

think people at Sony like walk into an office

40:47

room and they're like, why the hell is there a Toshiba

40:49

on the wall? Exactly.

40:53

We don't we get that. The

40:57

other the other major sort of bombshell

40:59

out of all these leaks is that in 2020 year 2020

41:02

Xbox was actually having serious

41:05

discussions about buying

41:07

acquiring Nintendo. My

41:10

goodness, that's the one that hurt me the

41:12

most. I'm gonna hear you. I think that's a bad

41:14

spin on it. I think it's just like this

41:17

is a good. It would be

41:19

it would be a career moment for him to

41:21

acquire it. You know what? Anybody

41:26

but like, I don't know if that one bothers

41:28

me the most. These are from leaked email again. I'm

41:31

quoting Phil Spencer himself. Nintendo

41:33

is the prime asset

41:36

for us in gaming. These are his

41:38

words. He capitalized these Nintendo

41:40

is the asset for us

41:42

in gaming and today gaming is our most

41:44

likely path to consumer relevance. Isn't

41:47

there a line about like he's Nintendo

41:49

is being slow about realizing that their

41:52

gaming future lies beyond their own hardware.

41:55

Like I'll let you know what he said. You think he says

41:57

I've had numerous conversations with

41:59

the leadership. team of Nintendo about

42:01

tighter collaboration and feel like if any US

42:03

company would have a chance with Nintendo, we are probably

42:05

in the best position. Then he says

42:07

at some point getting Nintendo would be a career

42:10

moment and I honestly believe a

42:12

good move for both companies. It's just

42:14

taking a long time for Nintendo to see that their

42:17

future exists off of their own

42:19

hardware a long time. I

42:21

don't, this is a nothing burger. This

42:24

is someone saying, hey, hey, Phil Spencer, would you like

42:26

to buy Nintendo? And he's like, yeah, I'd fucking love

42:28

to. And then that's it. That's what that email

42:30

is. Like, but he's saying he's having

42:32

meetings with them trying to convince them. Well,

42:35

he's saying, hey, can I buy you? And they're saying no.

42:38

Those could be with it. Just

42:40

Phil and Charles Martinet,

42:43

you know, the new Mario ambassador.

42:45

The man said let's go. He's

42:49

just doing sound effects. It's

42:52

like, oh my God, we're getting nowhere. I

42:54

mean, I get like it's very, very it's

42:57

like it's such a juicy email

42:59

and like such again, like such kind of an embarrassing leak.

43:01

But I don't think it's it's again, it's Xbox

43:03

saying we'd love to acquire you and Nintendo saying

43:05

no, thank you. Like that's what it is. Like

43:08

it's nothing. To be clear, to everyone in Scoop

43:10

Nation, the idea that Microsoft could

43:12

acquire Nintendo is a fairy tale. It's

43:15

a fantasy that would literally

43:17

would just never ever happen in

43:19

any sort of reality. It's like it's so far from

43:21

being a possibility. It's completely insane. And to

43:23

quote me on this, it's much more likely that they'd

43:25

buy Sony or have a chance of buying Sony than Nintendo.

43:28

And that's also, I mean, they're possible. It's

43:31

just I

43:34

mean, the conventional

43:36

wisdom is if there is to be some megaton

43:38

earthshaking acquisition, it would be Sony

43:40

and Nintendo joining forces to make like

43:42

a Japanese video game conglomerate like

43:45

that makes more sense culturally, at least.

43:48

I mean, not only you know what he should have done, though, he should

43:50

have approached them from the hand of food or cards upwards.

43:53

Just be like, can we buy your paper

43:55

card division and then work on that angle

43:58

for 130 years? And then

44:00

jump into the video game division. Do you think

44:02

it's that email dated Damon? It's from 2020.

44:06

Is that so how is that in relation to Activision?

44:09

Well long before we knew about their.

44:13

But just makes me, it makes me wonder is like,

44:15

did I'm saying this is all, you

44:17

know, fan fiction on my part. But like, you

44:20

know, Phil Spencer gets permission from, you

44:22

know, the senior executive leadership team at Microsoft

44:25

to just make some huge

44:27

moves in gaming. And

44:29

then so then it's like, okay, let me get a meeting with

44:31

Nintendo. Let me get a meeting with Activision. And maybe

44:33

that's where that came from. You talked to everybody.

44:36

Activision was like the plan B

44:38

when Nintendo, when Charles Martinet said

44:40

no. Yeah, I mean, I don't know. In

44:43

the email, he talks about how he's wooing Bethesda.

44:45

It's like that was already in progress.

44:49

So they were in it, they were in it, they were in it acquiring

44:52

like an M&A kind of mood. Yeah. And

44:55

then that's where that stuff came from. Yeah. It

44:57

was crazier. Yeah. There's

45:00

not many things that give me like the gaming

45:02

ick. Like I could play

45:04

Halo on a PlayStation controller. I

45:06

could play Uncharted on a Series X. Like

45:10

those wouldn't like completely like, but

45:12

I dunno, there's something about like Mario

45:14

Odyssey 2 on the Xbox Series

45:17

X, you know, with that. It's just weird to me.

45:20

I just like Nintendo hardware and

45:23

I like that their games are just so built

45:26

for that hardware where they're able to get

45:28

magic like Tears of the Kingdom running on

45:30

a phone, an outdated

45:33

phone. And it's like, I

45:35

dunno, that magic kind of goes away

45:37

when it's like, all right, the next Zelda

45:40

needs to also work on PC and

45:42

all the Series X versions we have

45:45

out now, which is like by this time could be countless.

45:48

I mean, it's not, it's like, and

45:50

Nintendo is a slightly smaller company than Activision.

45:54

Like it would have been a smaller acquisition by, you know,

45:56

I dunno, I know like $10 billion give

45:59

or take. Yeah. I mean,

46:01

I believe they have the capital to do it, but

46:03

it's just like first of all Nintendo is phenomenally successful

46:06

They're having you know, the the this

46:08

generation with the switch has been incredible

46:11

for them. They don't need to be acquired Literally

46:13

no reason to but also I can't

46:15

find a single example of

46:17

a US company ever Holy acquiring

46:20

acquiring a Japanese company. I don't think it's ever happened.

46:23

Yeah ever Well, it's like

46:25

it would have to be a hostile takeover, which

46:27

I don't think you can do Right

46:31

and it's like but even if it did like

46:33

I don't know how could you be happy

46:35

about that like Xbox forcefully

46:38

acquired Nintendo

46:40

like that that doesn't make me happy Really

46:44

sad The

46:46

good news is that well not it's just never gonna happen just

46:49

never Well,

46:52

the Mario movie probably put that to bed

46:54

and I could be a theme park also seemingly doing

46:57

pretty well It's like now that company is like

46:59

the switch to will it be a success or flop like,

47:01

you know No, none of us knows but like

47:04

this company is you know, they're disnifying

47:06

themselves and put them out of reach They're successfully

47:09

becoming more than a video gaming company

48:09

Okay, Sam and Mark, you're both playing

48:11

Cyberpunk? Justin, you're not playing it, are you? Yeah.

48:14

No, but I'm, I mean, you know, I'm on record as

48:16

a, I absolutely love the game, so excited to dig

48:19

into it, but not yet. I will too, but I haven't started

48:21

playing it yet, but IGN's review is

48:23

up, we gave it, what, a 9 out of 10, I think? Everyone seems

48:25

really happy with it. Sam and Mark,

48:27

you both like it. We're talking about Phantom Liberty. Go for it.

48:30

Sell us on it, Mark. Yeah, no, I

48:32

love it. Like, I can't,

48:35

man, I can't sell you on

48:37

Cyberpunk without badmouthing other games, so

48:39

I'll try. Just because, like, it's just so weird how this game

48:41

is, like, kind

48:44

of coming about, like, for me mentally,

48:46

but Phantom Liberty starts

48:49

kind of unlike any expansion starts,

48:51

right? Like, it starts with such a bang

48:54

that you're, you're in from the moment you're playing

48:56

it. I don't want to spoil anything,

48:59

but, like, it has just such a cool explosion. Okay, it

49:01

starts with a lot of parking garages, and then

49:03

the bang happens. Okay, it starts with 10 minutes of parking, right?

49:06

You're correct. It starts with, we need it, we

49:08

need to find an excuse. So don't let that

49:10

persuade you. We need to find an excuse to get you from here to

49:12

here, and then once you're here, then

49:15

you're, then you're off. So

49:17

the first mission alone, I was like, wow. I

49:20

really, it's so weird to think because,

49:22

like, Cyberpunk's been out for three years, and there's

49:25

been so many great games, but playing through

49:27

that first mission, I was like, man, I cannot believe this

49:29

is a game. This is insane. And

49:31

then it drops you into the world like normal,

49:34

you know, open world games do,

49:36

and you kind of realize, okay, Dogtown's,

49:39

like, kind of small. It's not super big. Like,

49:41

it kind of hits you where you're like, all right,

49:43

this is just more Cyberpunk now. The

49:46

map isn't, like, radically different. It's just

49:48

a new area of Pacifica, so it's, like, dirty

49:50

and stuff like that. And

49:53

you're like, okay, this is, this is just more

49:55

Cyberpunk. And then what's happening

49:57

on screen, but for the audio listeners is, you

49:59

mean it. me, Idris Elba's

50:01

character. And he

50:04

just like, man, he

50:06

takes hold of the story and never

50:08

lets go. I didn't think he would be in it a

50:10

lot. He's in it quite a bit. And

50:13

it's just awesome. Yeah, and he and Keanu Reeves

50:15

share the screen a whole lot, which is really fun.

50:18

Yeah. I also wasn't sure how much

50:20

Johnny Silverhand would be in it because I was like, did

50:22

they get Keanu back to like do a bunch

50:24

of stuff? He's in it a ton, just as much

50:26

as he would be in the base game. So,

50:30

but it's just it's just the open world presentation

50:32

that I forgot Cyberpunk has and they

50:34

like kicked it up a notch. I was sending our group

50:36

chat like screenshots. There's a part

50:39

again, I won't spoil, but you're with Idris

50:41

Elba's character and he's walking around

50:44

a place and you don't realize it. But

50:46

when you walk in there, for one, the one

50:48

thing to note is not a single loading screen happened

50:51

on your way there. You talk to him, he

50:53

tells you to go inside of a building and

50:56

yes, you go down like an elevator, but he's talking

50:58

to you the whole time. You saw full control and

51:01

then he's just walking around from place

51:03

to place and you didn't realize

51:05

it when you first saw it. This is one of those magic

51:07

gamer moments. But every time he stops,

51:10

he's in this like perfectly lit spot

51:13

of this like area he's in. And it's

51:15

like, it's such cinematic

51:17

storytelling when you have full

51:20

control over things. And it pops

51:22

up and down that whole time. Right. It

51:24

was a half life two argument, right? Where

51:26

it's like, they're giving you all this exposition and you're

51:28

over here just like messing around. And it's like, but

51:30

you don't you, you become the cinematic

51:32

camera. You're just following him. And then

51:35

he finishes his spiel and then

51:37

you leave and you're just like, what

51:40

triggered that? What made that

51:42

happen? He was just standing there. You

51:44

talk to him. There was a loading screen.

51:47

There's no dip to black. He

51:49

just you follow him in a thing happens

51:51

and then you leave. And then when you leave, they

51:53

shut the door on you. And he's like me and this character

51:56

are going to do some catching up. And I just stood

51:58

outside and you can hear them. having a full

52:00

conversation. And they're just talking

52:03

about something that I talked to our reviewer

52:05

and he's like, Oh, I just ran away. And I'm like, No,

52:07

they give their entire, they're gonna do this whole,

52:09

like, we're gonna like, catch up over

52:11

the past couple years, because we haven't seen each other. They

52:13

talk for minutes, and they actually

52:16

catch up and you're like, nobody's going

52:18

to see that except for me, because I'm weird

52:20

and I'm eavesdropping. And

52:24

it instantly reminded me like,

52:26

how

52:27

much of a different level this game is on. It

52:30

is, it is pretty nuts. Mark,

52:32

tell them about the the chase

52:35

sequence that you were telling me about. Yeah,

52:38

wait, in comparison to the other one?

52:41

Okay, fine. All right, here we go. So

52:43

in starfield, there's a there's a

52:45

chase sequence where you're chasing the hunter through

52:48

the well of New Atlantis. Hold on. This

52:50

is the hunter that you like meet in different places. And he's got

52:52

a cool voice. Oh, yeah, sorry. Yeah.

52:55

Cool. And

52:57

so you're fighting him and

52:59

he like disappears and you have to chase him. And

53:02

so you're chasing him loading screen, you

53:04

chase him some more, he reappears, you

53:07

shoot him because he's just kind of like all over the place.

53:09

He does loading screen loading, like,

53:11

I mean, it's starfield. Okay, I don't care

53:13

what people say begins a lot of loading screens.

53:16

And I know, like I accidentally shot one of the townsfolk

53:19

and all of a sudden my entire mini

53:21

map turned red. Because in this

53:23

fight that they're making me do where

53:26

it's happening, I did there

53:28

was a townsfolk person that I just

53:30

shot and they're like, Oh, now New Atlantis

53:33

is hostile towards you and I had to reload. And

53:35

I'm like, what is I get what they're going

53:37

for here, versus the

53:40

intro to cyberpunk is chase

53:42

sequence. And it is it

53:45

is like it explosive

53:47

is the only way I can put it you're just like running

53:49

and sprinting and sliding and you

53:52

get a double jump right at the beginning. And so you're like double

53:54

jumping over people and like all

53:56

this stuff happening and like, but stuff's

53:59

happening in the distance. And And there's not a single

54:01

load screen. Like I can't gush about it enough. I

54:04

have two questions for you. The like evolution

54:07

between what, these two games

54:09

that came out a month apart, how different

54:11

they feel. Oh, that's so exciting. I'm so

54:14

excited. It's so good.

54:16

Okay, question one.

54:19

I have a save game that's right. It's like the mission

54:22

that kicks off the point of no return is me and not

54:24

go at embers. Like that's where my save is. It's

54:26

like become a meme for the cyberpunk community.

54:28

It's like, don't go meter. It's your game land. Go

54:30

do everything else. Right. And like, so can

54:33

you pick up the DLC from there? How

54:35

does that feel? So the second

54:37

you log into your game, once you have the DLC installed,

54:40

you're gonna get a phone call from a character named

54:42

Somi Songbird. And she's gonna tell

54:44

you, come meet me at Dogtown. They're gonna put,

54:46

and that's just your main mission. You're gonna

54:48

go to her and that's what's gonna kick this off.

54:50

And that's what I was referring to with

54:53

Sam was talking about the parking garages is you'll

54:55

talk to her. She'll say, follow me here.

54:57

There's a little bit of like weird platforming. And

55:00

then that's where the expansion starts. But once

55:02

you're past that first main mission, you're

55:05

in Dogtown. You can just leave if you want.

55:07

Some missions have you leave Dogtown. And

55:10

so question two, like obviously the

55:12

game, the DLC comes out within 2.0 patch

55:15

that's available to everybody. It's not actually a part of the DLC.

55:17

That completely reworks the skill tree

55:20

from the ground up. Like, you know, it makes meaningful

55:22

changes to the game. But like, I'm curious,

55:24

like I love cyberpunk and I played it like, I

55:27

don't know, 50 hours or however long, you

55:29

know? But I can't, I don't even remember

55:31

the skill tree in that game, right? Like, does it actually

55:34

feel different? Does the game

55:36

feel like- Yeah, I

55:38

think it's better now. So how it was before

55:41

is, you know, you have your character screen with all your attributes

55:43

and then you go into one and your skill tree would

55:45

start kind of at the center and it would go

55:48

from there. And on the outskirts

55:51

is when the like higher level stuff is. And it would be

55:53

like, you can't do this because your net

55:55

running isn't at 15 or something like that. Now

55:58

it's a little bit like more- where

56:01

now the skill tree starts at the bottom and

56:03

it's separated in like four parts so

56:05

everything on the very bottom is like Netrunner

56:08

level five and then if you raise your netrunner

56:10

to level ten or sorry not netrunner Intelligence

56:13

then you get the next tier and then the next

56:16

tier and then the next tier I'm gonna

56:18

go up from there got it. My character

56:20

build is just swords. That's it Yeah

56:23

Well, what's cool is when you're assigning your perks

56:25

you just push a button and you can unassign it so

56:27

you can respect it anytime The only thing

56:29

you can't respect is the actual character

56:31

screen with the five, you know, I think I think

56:34

every game I think it should be if we if every gamers

56:36

could make one gamer law the gamer law

56:38

that I would pass is 12 to 24

56:41

months after every video game comes out. It just

56:43

has to give you free unlimited respects Yeah,

56:46

yeah, look it unbalances the game like,

56:48

you know, but it gives like the game the game's been out

56:51

And now now you get free unlimited respects

56:53

go nuts Although keys to the kingdom

56:56

the the counter not as a really counterpoint

56:58

to that But what I've discovered in playing the witcher

57:00

DLC and this is that I rolled

57:02

a new character and you get like in the witcher

57:04

It was over the top. It was like here's dozens

57:07

and dozens of skill points I'm like

57:09

you sit there for an hour trying to remember what everything

57:12

does But what you can do is you can take your

57:14

time doling those out So you don't need to put them all in when you

57:16

get back So when I came into cyberpunk

57:18

I wrote the for the pen on Liberty I rolled a new

57:20

character and then it just skips you past

57:23

act one and you get the phone call when you start

57:25

and your character Is rolled however, it

57:28

also gives you a respect token even

57:30

for for the things that they kind of

57:32

rolled for you And so then you can

57:34

you can play so what I did is I played for

57:36

a couple hours and I was like, okay This

57:38

is not I remember why I liked my character

57:41

a different way and then I respect Yeah,

57:43

I think that was like a really good way to do it. They're

57:45

really proud of the new which they should

57:48

be It's really cool. They're really proud of the new like

57:50

hacking cue the netrunner stuff So

57:52

they do when you make a new character because

57:54

what I wanted you Justin You can you

57:56

can the other way is when you make

57:58

a new character. You could just say Phantom Liberty and

58:01

yeah, yeah, you just immediately you're right outside

58:03

dogtown So me calls and you go to the

58:05

thing and yeah They don't give you just like

58:07

Sam is saying like with blood and wine where it's like here's 50 skill

58:10

points Have fun. They build you a character

58:12

and the character is a quick hacking. Yeah,

58:15

no runner I'll probably use that. I mean I didn't play

58:17

the original game that way So I'll play I'll play hacker

58:19

man for the second time around and you can choose

58:21

a different background if you want to you Can choose your

58:24

street rat or corpo or whatever?

58:26

Yeah I'm an I'm excited

58:28

man cyber functions. Okay. I'm excited for that. Oh

58:30

good Sam. You wanted to share why you bounced

58:33

off starfield. Oh Yeah, it's

58:35

just kind of a short funny thing So I

58:37

I've been in I've been playing two Iterations

58:39

of starfield one is my original say

58:41

before I beat it so I could do some side quests

58:44

I've been writing about side quests and then one

58:46

was a new game plus right? So I'm

58:48

in that my old My

58:50

old game and I got to a point where

58:52

I couldn't jump to a star system because

58:54

I needed to do skill points Mm-hmm.

58:57

Um, I needed to do a skill point into my

58:59

star chart or update my my engine

59:02

which I could do long story short I didn't

59:05

have money because I just had to do a thing for work where

59:07

I had to pay off my house and I had money So I could have either

59:09

grind for money and do a skill point there and

59:12

then do that or I could grind for skill

59:14

point and Do the

59:16

skill so I grant through skill point I get one and

59:18

then it's like no you have to unlock the challenge I said,

59:20

oh I forgot about that. What is it? I go in and it was

59:23

jump to 30 star systems So

59:26

so to do this one mission that I wanted to do

59:28

I would have had to go to a star

59:31

and jump to another star back and forth 30 times To

59:35

just spend the skill point I had done side missions

59:37

to do so I was like I'm dedicated

59:39

because I wanted this mission This is actually operation star seed

59:41

Justin that I wanted to do Oh, then I bounced back

59:43

to my new game plus I'm like well I can get to

59:45

this a new game plus and and

59:47

so I get to new game plus and I start that mission

59:50

and I was Like new game plus it's kind of

59:52

funny in this game It

59:54

doesn't give you any weapons like all your inventory is gone

59:57

So I'm in the middle of star seed and all of a sudden I have

59:59

to fight a bunch of aliens, but where's my guns?

1:00:02

Like talking to a bunch of people for two hours.

1:00:05

And then I was like, I have no gun. So then I'm like, okay,

1:00:07

well, I'm going to go do some other missions. Just

1:00:09

so I have some guns. Think how

1:00:11

convoluted this is all getting already. Right? Like I, this

1:00:14

is all getting fully convoluted. So this is all in

1:00:16

one night. So then I go and I'm like, okay,

1:00:18

what's the best option here? Well, all this going

1:00:20

on, some artifact runs to get artifacts

1:00:23

and get more powers. Cause that's the new game

1:00:25

plus cycle. You can skip the main mission, get some artifacts

1:00:27

and. Yeah. So I start my artifacts

1:00:30

and I get in the first one and it's the same

1:00:33

mother fucking mind I've been

1:00:35

in so many times, so

1:00:38

many times. And that was it. That's when I quit.

1:00:40

So I didn't, some of star star apparitions,

1:00:43

star seeds. Yeah. Yeah.

1:00:46

Yeah. I also, I also bounced off

1:00:48

star field this week after about 20 hours. Uh,

1:00:50

just felt like I

1:00:53

was kind of bored and frustrated and it's just

1:00:55

like so many things and after 20

1:00:58

hours, there was only really one side quest. I

1:01:00

thought was particularly interesting. Those

1:01:02

temples are the

1:01:04

puzzle, the dumb puzzle, really the same

1:01:07

and every single one, it's like, what? Everyone.

1:01:11

Or remember Damon, that would have been my fate

1:01:13

too. Cause I would have had to have had to do

1:01:15

those artifacts and then a temple

1:01:17

for each one too. So I was like, okay, so I'm going to

1:01:19

play the same science facility

1:01:22

six more times, the same mind

1:01:24

six more times and the same stupid

1:01:26

power puzzle six more times, which I've done 15

1:01:29

times by then in my core game. And I'd,

1:01:31

I'd had to do these like stuff for work as I said,

1:01:33

like to loop it. So it's like, I was,

1:01:35

I just couldn't do it anymore. Yeah. I

1:01:38

said it the last time I was on game scoop, which was like

1:01:40

two weeks ago when we were talking about star field and I'll

1:01:42

say it again, if you're enjoying star

1:01:44

field, awesome, but 2023 really

1:01:46

is one of the best years for gaming like

1:01:49

ever. And there's just too

1:01:51

many, too many good

1:01:53

things. I didn't think star field would like kind

1:01:55

of fall in that sacrifice of

1:01:58

like, I'm not going to play star field. Sorry. There's like. Too

1:02:00

many good things to play but it just

1:02:02

did for me and now I'm like I'm full

1:02:04

in on cyberpunk I haven't beaten yet because as

1:02:07

a you know guides person you eventually You

1:02:09

play and play and then you're like, all right now I gotta do the

1:02:11

guides work And it just has you with

1:02:14

a hundred hour save with like no progress

1:02:17

But then it's like I'm so excited for like Assassin's Creed

1:02:20

and then spider-man and Mario wander

1:02:22

that I don't know We're gonna go back. Yeah, I

1:02:24

like, you know, it's negative on star field last

1:02:27

week and I also stopped playing it I don't think it's

1:02:29

a bad game. Like I actually like not shooting. I Everyone

1:02:32

seems to really hate the ship designing. I

1:02:34

actually find it really fun and rewarding I found that interesting

1:02:36

like there's a lot of stuff I really like about it But

1:02:38

like

1:02:39

the quests were boring

1:02:41

the characters were boring and it's like it's

1:02:44

it's just not interesting I

1:02:47

like the cataloging. I like the cataloging planets

1:02:49

look I like a lot about it But it's like it's an RPG with

1:02:51

boring characters and boring quest. So

1:02:53

yeah, I mostly write two weeks for it But

1:02:56

on the flip side weeks I've

1:02:58

been playing Baldur's Gate 3 and though those

1:03:01

it's not a boring game with boring

1:03:03

quests and boring characters. No, it's

1:03:05

so good So good. It's so

1:03:07

good. It's it's on I mean,

1:03:09

I know I've been ranting and raving about Baldur's Gate 3

1:03:12

on this show But like I it's

1:03:14

so came out of nowhere for me

1:03:16

and absolutely blew through my expectations

1:03:18

I know don't let me get started with

1:03:21

some point soon, baby I do a segment on the

1:03:23

show and then I'll get into it in more detail Okay,

1:03:25

I so that that that's what I was gonna say

1:03:27

at the beginning of my cyberpunk rant is is

1:03:29

the problem with starfield for me Was that I

1:03:31

played a ton of Baldur's Gate 3 Yeah,

1:03:34

and so it's like if you want an RPG with choice

1:03:36

and consequences and everything you do matters

1:03:39

It's really hard to kind of like bring

1:03:41

back debt come down from that and

1:03:43

I'm like, okay But this is like this is more

1:03:45

of a first-person shooter action game and

1:03:47

then it's like now playing cyberpunk and I'm like Oh,

1:03:50

yeah This is a first-person shooter

1:03:52

action game and so between cyberpunk

1:03:55

and Baldur's Gate I starfield like

1:03:57

it doesn't do anything for me and

1:03:59

you're talking about quests being boring and stuff and I

1:04:02

feel like I have to just play through the Crimson

1:04:04

Fleet storyline because everyone's like it's so

1:04:06

good for it's the best

1:04:08

thing in Starfield and I'm like

1:04:11

that's such a weird like far though if

1:04:13

it's the best thing in a game that I

1:04:15

find almost nothing about it interesting that's

1:04:19

an interesting observation that like you know

1:04:22

but that Starfield gets middled somewhat

1:04:24

by like Baldur's Gate 3 as an RPG with more

1:04:26

choice and more meaningful kind of like

1:04:30

you know reactivity

1:04:32

in the game world and your ability to sort of approach

1:04:34

things whoever you want and then Cyberpunk

1:04:37

is a better kind of like first-person

1:04:39

action you know I call it an RPG but like

1:04:42

first person action experience like so

1:04:44

then that means Starfield kind of it's better

1:04:46

than neither of them at those things and

1:04:49

you know and then I think for

1:04:52

me it would have been better received had I not spent 80

1:04:54

hours in Baldur's Gate 3 yeah exactly

1:04:58

it's so weird so many games moved Baldur's

1:05:00

Gate moved out of the way yeah specifically

1:05:04

to not come out when Starfield came out

1:05:07

and instead killed Starfield

1:05:10

for me because one of the greatest

1:05:12

business decisions you know because

1:05:15

if they came out day and day it still would have been overshadowed

1:05:18

right it would have it would have taken a month

1:05:20

for people to say well wait a second I actually

1:05:22

think this other game is the business you know like

1:05:25

yeah

1:05:26

okay they accidentally found

1:05:29

a lot of success yeah Baldur's

1:05:31

Gate 3 is great I'm loving it

1:05:42

okay yeah running along in time we got to move

1:05:44

on that brings us to video game 20 questions our

1:05:47

suggestion this week comes from Vince from Northeast

1:05:49

Indiana very specific location

1:05:54

with that knowledge let the questioning

1:05:56

begin okay we

1:05:58

can do a mini speed round maybe Did this

1:06:00

game come out in the 70s 80s or 90s? No Let's

1:06:07

see, okay. Is this game

1:06:09

exclusive to any platforms? No Do

1:06:13

you do you play as a human? Yes Was

1:06:17

this game developed in the United States

1:06:22

Hmm I actually

1:06:24

should know this but let me just double check

1:06:32

I'll

1:06:34

just tell us the game maybe one question. Yes. Yes developed

1:06:36

in the United States All

1:06:39

right, okay not exclusive

1:06:41

when people call this

1:06:43

an indie game

1:06:51

It's kind of on

1:06:53

it's kind of on the cusp between

1:06:56

Indian Big big

1:06:59

game. That's fine. Would you say that multiplayer

1:07:01

is the focus of this game? I would not

1:07:10

From the Xbox 360 era

1:07:13

of consoles no

1:07:20

Okay So

1:07:22

possibly what ps4 xbox? Okay,

1:07:24

so is it from the ps4 era of consoles?

1:07:27

Yes All right

1:07:32

Was this available on the ps4 yes Okay,

1:07:37

so cross-platform definitely had a release

1:07:39

in the ps4. That's helpful for us. Did you

1:07:41

do we answer? Yes, he plays the human Yes,

1:07:44

I said yep, and then it's like

1:07:46

it's not indie but not triple-a

1:07:51

Order line maybe yeah,

1:07:53

maybe it's Borderlands. Yeah

1:07:56

Maybe it was published by like EA or Ubisoft

1:07:58

or something. That's what I'm gonna say Like something like no man's

1:08:01

sky is is technically an indie game

1:08:03

man, no man's like Triple-a

1:08:06

kind of like connotations about because it was

1:08:08

published by originally by PlayStation Yeah,

1:08:10

no man's guys a pretty good guess does this game have

1:08:13

is this game science fiction? Yes, that's

1:08:15

ten No

1:08:18

way no way that just

1:08:20

happened Things

1:08:24

have happened I can't remember who's

1:08:27

European designer if it was us it

1:08:29

is UK hello

1:08:31

guys, so it's not that game. Are you sure

1:08:34

hello games? He

1:08:36

said it was American base, yeah

1:08:40

Well, and it's also up for debate whether

1:08:42

or not you play as a human and no man's guy You

1:08:45

never see any people the most human

1:08:47

like characters are in a full spacesuit Hmm

1:08:52

it is the sci-fi game, but I feel like we're

1:08:54

on the right track. Yeah Could

1:08:57

be as a first-person game it

1:09:00

can be could

1:09:02

be outer worlds Yeah,

1:09:05

or made by outer wilds Oh

1:09:09

Okay, yeah, I

1:09:12

know what I said. Yeah. Yeah. Well cuz

1:09:14

I vet to me that's a triple-a game It would

1:09:16

you call this an RPG? Yes

1:09:21

Okay, good still the outer worlds could

1:09:23

be oh wait no outer worlds is

1:09:26

only first person I don't think it has a

1:09:28

third person but night. I

1:09:30

thought all the games Can you like click

1:09:32

this down again? Yeah,

1:09:35

what's the difference? Yeah? Yeah? Yeah, what

1:09:37

is the difference? Maybe

1:09:39

it does have a third person. I can't remember I

1:09:43

mean a sci-fi RPG First

1:09:46

and third person modes the game

1:09:48

have you traveling to other planets?

1:09:51

Yes

1:09:53

Yeah, I think I don't it's this game made by a city

1:09:56

I'm sorry, it's it made by obsidian.

1:09:59

Yes Oh, okay. So

1:10:01

it is Outer Worlds. Yeah, is it Outer Worlds? It's an on-theme

1:10:03

game. It is Outer Worlds with 15

1:10:06

questions. Nicely done. I

1:10:09

don't remember you being able to go third person in this game, but I guess so. If you

1:10:11

can't, then that's on me. I thought all of these types

1:10:14

of games, you could go back and forth. Yeah,

1:10:16

I would have assumed that too, but I can't remember. This game's really good.

1:10:18

It's a perfect game pass game. And

1:10:22

this is a AAA game?

1:10:26

It's a AAA game to you, Mark? I said

1:10:29

it's made by Obsidian. It's published by a private

1:10:31

division. That's what I was going to

1:10:33

say. It's tough, right? Because I

1:10:36

feel like Obsidian is a AAA

1:10:39

studio, but this is also pre-acquisition.

1:10:43

Pre-Microsoft

1:10:45

acquisition. I was really hoping this would be

1:10:47

a Stadia RPG, but you couldn't find

1:10:49

one, right? I couldn't find

1:10:52

a second-run Stadia PC

1:10:54

RPG. To

1:10:56

be fair, I didn't mean that in an insulting way, by the way.

1:10:59

It's a little bit smaller scope.

1:11:02

It's a game that's like a Fallout, but

1:11:05

it's 20-25 hours long. And

1:11:07

you still do the whole thing with your companions. It's

1:11:10

great. I played it on Game Pass and loved it. I

1:11:12

love it too. And a sequel's

1:11:15

on the way.

1:11:16

Yeah.

1:11:18

Well, nicely done. Thank you for the suggestion,

1:11:20

Vince from Northeast Indiana. Viewers,

1:11:23
