The 20th Century Geek returns for a deep dive into Moon Knight’s entire history (as of early 2024), including numerous comic runs, the Disney+ series and the Moon Knight essay book; Waxing And Waning: Essays On Moon Knight, which Scott edited & contributed to (& if you haven’t already, listen to episode 123 of GCC for an introduction to Moon Knight, also with Scott)!

In more detail, this week is part 1 of their conversation and they first discuss when Scott first experienced Moon Knight and why he is so interested by the character, as well as why he wanted to release an essay book on the character. The duo then delve into Moon Knight’s full history, while referencing several essays within Waxing And Waning, starting with his 1975 debut and 1980 solo comic run, before delving into the “edgy” 2006 Huston/Benson run and some of the runs along the way, before speaking about the Brian Michael Bendis run.

Next week is part 2 (Patreon supporters already have access), where the conversation continues with Warren Ellis’ 6 issues of Moon Knight from 2014 and Lemire’s 2016 run. The duo talk about the “phases” of Moon Knight and how the Disney+ show takes elements from this era. Scott then provides his theory on why (in-universe) Moon Knight/Marc Spector changes so much, before delving into MK’s latest run by Jed Mackay and Scott’s thoughts on the future of Moon Knight!

Find all of Scott’s content & social media links at https://20thcenturygeek.com and his book at http://sequart.org/books/40/waxing-and-waning-essays-on-moon-knight. The essay book “Judging Dredd: Examining The World Of Judge Dredd” was also edited by Scott and both essay books are found at http://sequart.org!

Scott also mentioned the Into The Night podcast, the Moon Knight-Core group on Facebook & X, plus the graphic novels Old Man Logan, TMNT The Last Ronin and The Dark Knight Returns.

Scott has appeared on episodes 75, 89, 122 & 123 of GCC while Mike appeared on the Batman Retrospective and Desert Island Comics Star Wars edition on 20th Century Geek (& look out for a Dune episode coming soon)!

Last week’s GCC episode was the eleventh instalment of Disney Discussions and the episode was Ria’s pick – two animated mouse movies; The Rescuers and (Basil) The Great Mouse Detective! Our DD crew spoke about these two classics in-depth, talking about music and animation, the clever ideas, the more strange choices, the underrated villains of both movies, the common themes (including lost children), plus they compare the movies & choose their favourites, note criticisms and much more!
