Some have suggested that Proportional Representation is a threat to the Labour Party's prominence and values. Jeremy Gilbert disagrees; he sees PR as an opportunity for Labour, and particularly those on the left.

Following on from Clive Lewis MP, GET PR DONE's next virtual guest is academic, author, and supporter of the Labour left, Jeremy Gilbert. Jeremy's recent work has been called 'brilliant' by Clive.

PR is used around the world and supported by a full range of progressive parties. As recently as October 2020, Jacinda Ardern's Labour Party won an outright majority in the New Zealand parliamentary elections under the Mixed Member proportional system.

In November this year, Jeremy wrote in The Guardian that electoral reform should be the solution to factionalism in the Labour Party. This article generated significant debate, not least among members of GET PR DONE! We are delighted that Jeremy is able to join us to set out his support for PR from within the Labour Party, and how that might be achieved.

Alongside the reasons for his pro-PR position, Jeremy will also present a challenge to 'Labourism', or the belief that the Labour Party is special, uniquely virtuous, and needs protecting. These are some meaty subjects that you can engage with for free at this event.

A Labour Party candidate in the December 2019 general election, who is also a strong supporter of PR, will respond to Jeremy's talk. There will also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and get into this discussion.
