▶▶▶ A SHORT SUMMARY ◀◀◀

With tech rumors seeping into more and more tech channels and even written media outlets, I thought it would be nice to discuss their vocabulary or jargon. The idea is to see if that can help people sift through dubious or ambivalent statements more easily.

[Added value]: the discussion includes some of the most popular rumors at the moment (at least the most interesting ones to me) and offers some short commentary on Big Navi, Ampere and Intel rumors.  Ideally, most of these episodes will be followed by some more technical ones that will be included in an upcoming series. For now, though, here's a list of points of interest in this video:

 ▶ Ampere:

▵Why is more memory required and how it might affect the upcoming generation of GPUs? The idea here is that faster cores are going to require more memory and memory is energy expensive - reading/writing in it requires a lot of energy. 7nm (EUV) is a key part of the solution but architectural changes are necessary, too.

▵NVIDIA and games optimizations.

▵Price cuts?

 ▶ Big Navi:

▵Nah, probably no price cuts from NVIDIA

▵Why I'm already disappointed with Big Navi (which is NOT in the upcoming console gen) [hint: it's because I, too, have been riding the hype train] and why it's still going to be a great GPU?

▵How RTG has to catch up and what it takes to actually stay ahead once they do.

▶ Intel:

▵Short and simple: Intel are not going anywhere and even if AMD seems to be in the lead, they have so much to catch up on that even better products for years on end on AMD's part are not going to mean a level playing field. Intel has some of the best minds - and now they have Jim Keller and Raja Koduri (two of the best minds in the industry). I am glad, however, seeing them being somewhat punished for being asleep at the wheel for so long. I don't yet doubt they are going to be innovative and excited. Just... it's not going to be any time soon.
