This podcast is about the importance of play when children are in vulnerable situations. Today’s guest, Colleen Cherry, is a Masters Level Child Life Specialist with a Certification in Thanatology, (Death education and bereavement). Its tough stuff to talk about, but when a child is terminally ill, or loses a family member, its crucial to have somebody there who knows how to navigate that in a way thats developmentally appropriate for kids. She provides medical and diagnosis education, palliative care, hospice support and bereavement to children. She also has a degree in Art Education, so even more coping strategies through visual and verbal expression. Colleen shared in this episode the importance of play and her unique set of resources to help busy parents to play with kids and make mundane activities more engaging.
