RATING
I cannot BELIEVE I just heard about this show. It was fantastic! I'm not typically drawn to sci-fi stories but this isn't an out-there space fantasy. This is a look at how we as humans react to discovering that, not only are we not alone, but our new neighbors desperately need our help.A spaceship crashes in the USA and the beings inside have had their consciousnesses trapped in a computer... where they are constantly suffering. The only way to save them is to transfer them into a human being, to share consciousness for the rest of the human's life. (Think Star Trek's Trill) After hearing about the crash on the news, the recently divorced 50-year-old Graham volunteers for the program. To the chagrin of his ex-wife and one of his two grown children, Graham finds himself entering a heavily armed military base to see if he qualifies. The plan quickly changes as complications arise again and again. This podcast was beautifully done; the performers are all-in, the story is compelling, and it's beautifully directed. At only 9 episodes +bonus content, there's no reason not to give this a go.
Mac Rogers has done it again. Absolutely mindblowing.
Of Mac Rogers' science fiction works, I thought this was the most consistently good one that he's written. The idea of incredible radical hospitality for a group of imprisoned alien refugees, by way of offering to carry and care for a second consciousness in your own brain for the rest of your life is thought provoking, and also a relatively refreshing one. It's a dilemma taken to an extreme. Who would do such a thing and for what motivation? What are the dangers and consequences? I liked that I didn't know which way the show would tip. Aside from some minor nitpicks (the daughter character feels shoved in there to insert comedy that feels out of sync with the rest of the show and the climax is pure gibberish), I enjoyed this quite a bit.
Intriguing scenario and great characters. For some reason I realy like the Republican senator asshole
Excellent production, actors, and concept. If you like your alien encounter stories with a more human-side, this is the show for you!
Give Me Away is a tremendous new work of cinematic Audio Fiction from Gideon Media. As he's shown before with Steal the Stars and LifeAfter, Mac Rogers has an innate ability to explore complex science fiction concepts with incredibly accessible and well written characters. From a pacing perspective there's a lot going on in the story, but it never feels like too much. I was fully invested before the end of the first episode. The quality of this Audio Drama is right up there with anything else being made today.
An interesting story with some unexpected twists.
Loved the podcast. It was good and had a unique take on how alien's might come to Earth. Great cast too imo.
Really interesting story - a sci-fi take I had never heard before. Original and really well done.
Unique, exciting and great acting. Loved it and can't wait for the next episode. I can't tell if season one has ended, but if so, I hope there is a season 2, so it doesn't leave us hanging.
Following a divorced middle-aged man who decides to share his body with an alien political prisoner, this show explores the motivations behind altruistic actions. The main character faces challenges to prove himself capable to take on this consciousness and this decision affects his interpersonal relationships. The first half focuses more on family drama, while the second half has a greater focus on the aliens themselves and the political conflict. Thoughtful conflicts arise from choosing to support a second consciousness, such as power dynamics, privacy, and self expression. Once you get past some heteronormative dating scenes and the daughter character being pretty annoying (though this aspect ends up factoring into the plot), the character interactions and relationships are enjoyable. The narrative is complete enough as it stands, but I'd be interested in seeing more.
