This week I'm bringing you a story from the American South, specifically from South Carolina and Georgia. 'The Lion and the Well', is one of the many Br’er Rabbit stories that orignated in West and Central Africa and were brought to America during the slave trade. Br’re Rabbit is a trickster, who can be short tempered and pretty selfish, but never-the-less is an entertaining protagonist. The retelling of this tale is inspired by a story of the same name from the book 'African American Folktales' by Roger D. Abrahams. To learn more about the African communities that brought Br'er Rabbit stories, among many others, to America, be sure to listen to Episode 12.b. let's learn about the Gullah-Geeche.Comments or critiques are sooo welcome.
