How a Golf Coach made $44,350 in 5 months
Today we tell the story of Dave DePula as he’s created a thriving coaching business getting real results for players transitioning from his previous career as a real estate broker with a 7 handicap. Looking for a new facility? Dave tells the story of how he went from crowded driving range with 15 other instructors to a fantastic golf club. There are always ways to think outside the box and find new opportunities if you’re willing to get out there and ASK. As a successful real estate broker Dave had a few key concepts he’s brought into this golf instruction. The power of the coach and the necessity of referrals. He moved clubs and created a new program… 90 days of coaching for $3000 and has fully filled that up making $44,350 over 5 months this past season. Dave is all about getting players on the course, creating accountability for his players. Dave has an emphasis on getting phenomenal results for his golfers so he creates raving fans and always keep referring students. He tells the story of one student who has sent 5 students Dave’s way because he’s gotten such good results. Start listening to people and STOP trying to impress them. Be present, listen and ask questions. Always ask questions. “Tell me more about that. Tell me more about why do you want to be a five handicap? You’re 15 now. You tell me more.” Really get to know the person first. Looking for additional resources to revolutionize your golf instruction business and learn how to guarantee results for golfers? Golf instructors journey from $12,000 a year to $12,000 a month
Jay was a sign maker by trade and started teaching golf as a retirement plan. He started at a club with little instruction and built his business from scratch… don’t miss this. Jay had experience as coach (not specifically in golf) and approached his students differently. His first group of students came from his club’s ladies group, signing up 12 golfers and getting them on the golf course His first goal was to help them understand how to play and become more aware of the real issues with their game. A golf instructor sells an answer. A coach get’s to know the player and build the roadmap. One of the most effective pieces of Jay’s program was his “caddie program”. He had players rotate between caddying and playing so they could help understand realistic shot selection, expectations, and strategy. The caddie program helps players ask better questions and become their own best coaches. Because of his success at his first course Jay was invited to a high end private club in the area and was able to get 50% of members into his coaching program. We talk about that story and Jay shares everything he did to convert so many members into students. How to Start Adult Coaching Programs (after years of struggle)
Colby had built a successful junior coaching business filling his schedule from 3:00 – 7:00 on most week days however he wanted to start some adult coaching during the days when he had free time. Listen and subscribe to the podcast in Apple Podcasts here He at first built a few packages of lessons and posted flyers hoping adults would sign up… but no one did. That went on for a few years before he made a shift.   Looking for additional resources to revolutionize your golf instruction business and learn how to guarantee results for golfers? Learn more from Will Robins here. The first step Colby took was defining who and what he wanted to teach. It’s all about effective reflection and defining those moments that make you feel alive, finding where you are at your best. Colby didn’t want to do one hour lessons all day long, but instead create more group coaching like he did with his juniors.  He picked a few students he knew he could count on and pitched the program idea to them. This past winter he filled up a few groups creating brand new revenue streams during down time. Don’t wait so long.  Start analyzing what you’re doing and what you want to do TODAY.  Find what you love and do more of it.  When you’re experience pain or frustration it’s a good thing…  Don’t run from it but investigate and figure out why.   Maybe it’s a lack of time with family, income, type or work or any number of things. About Colby Wollitz Colby is a member of the PGA of America and is certified in Teaching and Coaching. Since turning professional, has won multiple Sectional PGA events, was medalist in a U.S. Open Local Qualifier, and competed in the 2012 PGA Professional National Championship. He believes that there is no perfect golf swing, only a series of acceptable positions that WILL change from player to player. Most of these positions are based on the students body type, and many swing flaws are caused by poor set-up. He also believes that a student must learn how to transfer what they practice to the golf course. He believes in establishing a consistent process/routine as well as a game plan based on a players dispersions and tendencies. Colby uses Trackman data from his players to create personalized course maps for them prior to tournament rounds. In 2016 and 2017 Colby was awarded the Kentucky PGA Youth Player Development Award.   The post How to Start Adult Coaching Programs (after years of struggle) appeared first on GOLF IN THE LIFE OF - education for golf instructors.
