Good pricings. I'm Brian, and
0:53
this is Grateful Grains. Happy
0:58
Monday. We've reached that time of
1:00
year when people inevitably begin
1:02
to take a good hard look at what they'd
1:04
like to change in the coming year. What
1:06
do we want to take with us? What
1:08
would we like to leave behind? And
1:11
what might we like to start anew? No
1:13
matter the goal, the beginning of the year provides
1:15
a fantastic starting block. But
1:17
oftentimes, without really doing the work,
1:20
of understanding where and how and
1:22
why we're choosing our resolutions,
1:25
they notoriously fall apart. So
1:28
our goal just as it was this time
1:30
last year is to spend a few
1:32
weeks focusing on self observation, reconnection
1:35
and recommitted. We want to set
1:37
ourselves up for success by packing thoughtful
1:40
intention behind our why
1:42
and how. We're getting it started
1:44
this week by re exploring ritual,
1:46
and we're kicking it off today with stale
1:49
tradition. It's short and sweet,
1:51
but it packs a punch. When we
1:53
say thank you, it feels and
1:55
often reads different if we're saying
1:58
it with genuine gratitude. Then
2:00
if we're saying it because manners demanded
2:03
of us. The same can be said for
2:05
a hug or a held door or
2:07
even an eye of you. We can
2:09
perform it or we can actually
2:12
mean it. In the same way
2:14
ritual for the sake of tradition can
2:16
feel forced When our actions
2:18
or gestures or words become
2:21
nothing more than an act in obligation,
2:23
they're meaningless. Doing
2:26
something just because it's what's been done
2:28
before is no way to approach
2:30
any situation in life, especially during
2:32
this most cherished time of year. We
2:34
can understand the purpose of a tradition's
2:37
origin, but if the spirit of a celebration
2:39
has been forgotten, so
2:42
has its value. That's not to
2:44
say ritual and tradition are unimportant.
2:47
To the contrary, we're saying it's something
2:49
that shouldn't be taken lightly. We
2:51
approach tradition with intention and
2:53
purpose, truly understanding why
2:56
we're taking part. Even if
2:58
our why differs from everyone
3:00
else who's taking part. For example,
3:03
maybe we don't celebrate Shabbat,
3:05
but our family or friends do. We
3:07
can show up purely because we
3:10
see it as a weekly time to bond
3:12
with the people that we love. Religion
3:14
aside, this weekly tradition
3:16
becomes something special to us individually.
3:19
Regardless of the context of its origin.
3:22
And for those that the celebration who are
3:24
there for religious context as well,
3:26
We're simply suggesting to keep your own
3:28
personal intention at the forefront of
3:30
your thoughts throughout the night. Once
3:33
tradition feels like an obligation, The
3:35
magic is lost. Stale
3:37
ritual can be reinvigorated with
3:40
purpose. We need only remain
3:42
mindful of why it's important to
3:44
us personally. If we can't
3:46
seem to find a reason for the ritual, it's
3:49
time to start new ones because ritual
3:51
with intention is a powerful tool
3:53
at our disposal. Not just over
3:55
the holidays, but in every aspect, in
3:58
every day of our lives. And
4:00
that's what we'll be talking about all week.
4:12
Thanks so much for joining us on Great For Grains.
4:14
You can find us on Instagram at goodrisings,
4:17
where you can find me at e McMuffin. We'll
4:19
be back again to tomorrow for day two of
4:21
our week re exploring ritual.
4:24
Until then, remember, a better tomorrow
4:27
starts with today. Good
