Good
0:04
horizons. I'm Brian, and this
0:06
is grateful Grains. Welcome
0:11
back. We're on day three of
0:13
our week re exploring ritual.
0:15
On Monday, we had a quick conversation about
0:17
the danger of stale tradition, asserting
0:20
that unless we're coming to the table with intention,
0:23
we're wasting our time. Yesterday,
0:25
we talked how to use ritual in
0:27
order to build new habits. Today,
0:30
we're discussing the use of ritual and
0:32
facilitating new memories. We
0:35
talk a lot about the pursuit of happiness
0:38
and meaning on grateful grains. Routes
0:40
to joy, healing, connection,
0:43
relationships, living a healthy
0:45
lifestyle in order to experience life
0:47
to the absolute fullest. Even
0:50
so, we know it's easy to get caught
0:52
up in the whirlwind of life. Responsibility, obligations,
0:56
work, children, family, friends,
0:58
the balancing act can be all
1:00
consuming. Days, then
1:02
weeks, then months, then years
1:04
fly by in the blink of an eye.
1:06
And sometimes we're busy making ends
1:08
meet, it's tough to remember anything
1:11
notable happening at all. It's
1:13
all about baby steps, toward the light at the
1:15
end of the tunnel. It's about choosing
1:17
what we need most in life and moving toward
1:20
it. Slowly distancing ourselves
1:22
from anything that isn't serving us. Stealing
1:25
back our time and allotting it as
1:27
we see fit rather than allowing
1:29
others to take that time from us. It's
1:32
intention, intention, intention, intention
1:34
in all things. I found it
1:36
helpful to make list of where my time is
1:38
being spent. And for each line item,
1:40
I ask Why am I doing this?
1:42
What is the exact purpose? Is it
1:44
serving me? Is it leading me toward
1:47
my goals? What is the impact on
1:49
my physical and mental well-being. If
1:51
the answers are positive, we find ourselves
1:54
reinvigorated with a better understanding, a
1:56
deeper relationship with our why.
1:59
And we can call on that knowledge anytime
2:01
you begin to feel overwhelmed. On
2:04
the other hand, if we notice our time being
2:06
taken away from us by ultimately
2:08
unimportant obligations or relationships
2:11
that train us, activities that aren't
2:13
helping us grow in the right direction, or
2:15
dead end jobs that barely keep our head above
2:17
water. It's time to start examining
2:20
how to escape. When it comes
2:22
to an exit plan, it can be an immediate
2:24
departure or it can be a
2:26
five year journey. So long as
2:28
we draw up the map and we know we're
2:30
moving away from it. In
2:32
this scenario, we find comfort in the knowledge
2:35
that we're taking steps toward that
2:37
end. All of this to preface
2:39
the idea that we need to make space
2:41
for new experiences and new
2:43
memories. Again, sometimes
2:45
we find ourselves in a place in life where
2:47
we can't remember the last interest
2:50
thing we did or the last time we really
2:52
had fun. We talk about
2:54
adventure a lot. Embracing the
2:56
unknown with enthusiasts, stepping
2:59
out side of our comfort zone.
3:01
It's powerful stuff. It's where
3:03
some of our biggest memories are made.
3:05
It's those times out on a limb
3:07
where we experience real change.
3:10
It's where some of our most profound growth
3:12
happens. But what's it have to do
3:14
with ritual? It's blocking
3:16
off a specific date and a period
3:18
of time in order to create new memories.
3:21
Whatever we need more of in life, whether
3:24
it's time with family or time with friends,
3:26
alone time, time with your significant
3:29
other, it's all about being proactive
3:31
about making it happen. We can
3:33
literally decide what we need,
3:36
point at the calendar, and start a
3:38
new ritual. It can be an annual
3:40
event, by annual, monthly,
3:42
weekly, even daily. Whatever
3:44
it is, we create it with intention.
3:47
We carve out a time. We decide
3:49
on the destination even if
3:51
it's at our own house or at a park,
3:54
and we share the plan and the intention
3:56
with whoever we'd like to be there.
3:59
We do it again and again and again
4:01
exactly as often as we say
4:03
we will. Thus, a new ritual
4:05
is and new memories with
4:08
ourselves or the people we love
4:10
are being born alongside it. Thank
4:22
so much for joining us on Grateful Cranes. You
4:25
can find us on Instagram at goodrisings

or you can find me at b mcfuffin. We'll
4:30
be back again tomorrow for day four of
4:32
our week on ritual. Until
4:34
then, remember, the better tomorrow
4:37
starts with today. Risings
