Good horizons. I'm Brian,

0:27

and this is grateful Grains. Welcome

0:32

back. Believe it or not, we've

0:34

made it to the final week of twenty

0:37

twenty two. Last week, we

0:39

re explored ritual primarily how

0:41

to use ritual and intention in

0:43

order to double down on nourishing what's

0:46

most fulfilling in our lives. This

0:48

week, we're wrapping up the year by

0:50

revisiting one of our favorite weeks of

0:52

all, a week called Resolute,

0:55

It's all about choosing meaningful

0:57

resolutions that will actually

1:00

serve us. Actionable resolutions.

1:03

We'll also be digging into the ways that we can make

1:05

a resolution work. But today,

1:08

we're getting it started by defining the

1:10

word itself, because as words have

1:12

power, and this one is certainly

1:15

no exception. So

1:17

what does it mean to be resolute?

1:20

The Miriam Webster Dictionary says

1:22

it is to be marked by firm determination.

1:25

Oxford Languages says

1:27

it's to be at my irritably purposeful,

1:30

determined, and unwavering. There's

1:33

no misconstruing the intention here.

1:35

It's a powerful word Much

1:38

more powerful than say, an option

1:40

or a choice or a decision. Resolution

1:44

has more in common with the word vowel.

1:47

Take for example, the decision

1:49

to eat healthier. Great choice.

1:51

But people make decisions like that

1:53

all the time. In fact, we

1:55

make countless decisions each and

1:57

every day. We get overwhelmed

2:00

by the number of decisions we have to

2:02

make, so much so that we

2:04

often end up choosing the path of least

2:06

resistance. Add on top of

2:08

that the busyness of life, the

2:10

obligations, the workload, the family, the

2:13

friends, the temptation. Suddenly

2:15

eating healthier is a decision

2:18

you're just gonna have to make another day.

2:20

When we really understand the definition

2:23

of resolution. When we keep

2:25

it close to us while we're setting our

2:27

goals, we understand its

2:29

weight. If we are resolute

2:31

about eating healthier, it means

2:34

that we are marked by a firm

2:36

determination about it. We

2:38

are purposeful determined and

2:40

unwavering about it.

2:42

Like so many things in the modern world,

2:44

powerful words lose their

2:46

magic. In overuse. They're

2:49

dulled with lackluster intention.

2:51

We can change that by giving the words

2:54

we use power. So

2:56

accepting the power of this word,

2:58

how do we go from making the decision

3:00

to eat healthier, to being

3:02

resolute about it. It's

3:05

all about imbuing the word

3:07

with the strength of our why.

3:09

Why are we choosing to eat healthier?

3:12

Is it to live longer? Is it

3:14

to remain in good health so that

3:16

we can continue experiencing all

3:19

the world has to offer? Is

3:21

it because we've the negative

3:23

effects of a poor diet in someone

3:25

we love? We galvanize our

3:27

willpower with our whys.

3:30

We get as specific as possible

3:32

about each and one of

3:34

our reasons. We're reinforcing

3:37

the foundation on which our

3:39

resolution will stand. Therefore,

3:42

when we say we have made a resolution, it's

3:45

within the context of our being resolute

3:48

about that need for change. As

3:51

all others fall short, we

3:53

can stand strong in what we've endeavored

3:55

to change. Knowing full well

3:57

the power of the word we use to

3:59

identify our pursuit, our

4:01

resolution. Because when we

4:04

say we are resolute, we

4:06

are resolute. Just

4:08

like that, we can wield the

4:10

word like a weapon against our weaker

4:13

moments. Call it a reminder.

4:15

Call it a one word prayer. Call it a spell.

4:17

The point is, when

4:19

we imbue the word with our intention,

4:22

our very strongest wise,

4:24

the reasons we chose to

4:26

make the change. We can quickly

4:29

call four the strength to

4:31

press on by simply recalling

4:33

that it is our resolution. We

4:36

can supercharge our resilience

4:38

by remembering why we

4:40

are resolute. Thanks

4:55

so much for joining us on Grateful Grains. You

5:04

5:06

then remember, the better tomorrow

5:09

starts with today. Risings
