Greatgrief is…
A series of conversations hosted by Grammy nominated singer songwriter, actress Nnenna Freelon around grief, dying and loss. By reimaging grieving as both an active and sacred process Freelon believes we can ultimately reclaim and restore our lives.
Within the past year, Nnenna Freelon has experienced the loss her beloved husband of 40 years Philip G. Freelon and her younger sister Debbie Pierce. These cataclysmic changes have prompted her to question everything she “thought” she knew about life and death, purpose, faith and healing and her Art.
“I was hit in the gut with a one two punch and then... Covid19”
Searching for new meaning and purpose amidst the whirlwind of grief is an ongoing process that Freelon wants to share with the world.
“Grief is truly a master teacher. Opening up conversations around pain and loss is more important now than ever.” Greatgrief explores some of the ways grieving shapes and changes us. Multifaceted conversations framed by music, poetry, art, and humor - Greatgrief promises no pat answers to these hugely personal experiences only a safe space to exercise curiosity and ask, “What else is possible?”
Each episode will be anchored by music as Freelon shares her personal journey and those of her guests which include poets, dancers, singers, actors, visual artists, and creatives of all genres.
“I’ve decided to enlist guest creatives and artists in the Greatgrief series because they embody skills that we all need to “dance“ with grief.
