NEWS:Vintage British rock band the Police, which opened the 49th Grammy Awards show with a reunion performance overnight, is expected to announced Today the launch of a major world tour, its first in more than two decades.

The Police broke up due to internal differences in 1984 after the trio completed its last major tour. After that, they re-united briefly for a tour in support of Amnesty International in 1986, for lead singer Sting's 1992 wedding and once again in 2003 for the ceremony at which the three were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Then at Sunday night's Grammy show, when the Police performed the opening act with a well-received rendition of their Reggae-influenced classic hit "Roxanne."

Some representatives of the band have been quoted in recent months as saying a reunion tour would be fabulously lucrative.

Sting, the only one of the three to have enjoyed major success solo after the breakup, is 55, while guitarist Andy Summers is 64 and drummer Stewart Copeland 54.
