Meet Gary Andrews: Ex-Disney illustrator and cartoonist, director of Fireman Sam and dad of two. Gary lost his wife very suddenly to sepsis in 2017. Suddenly widowed, Gary did what he does best and channelled his grief into his drawings. Every day Gary drew a doodle to express how he was feeling and shared it with his friends on Twitter. Gary went viral. When Laura and Abi saw Gary on The One Show his story resonated so strongly that they reached out to him to come on for a chat about how to deal with unspeakable loss. This is that chat. An ordinary man with an extraordinary talent and a passion for keeping his wife Joy's memory alive. They discuss coping with grief, how to manage unspeakable loss and the importance of open communication as a parent.
"Underneath it all we’re basically human beings and grief is a universal thing and it’s the one thing that is certain when we enter this world... we’re going to leave it and most of us are going to have to deal with it at some point."-Gary Andrews
