Mariano talks about how other people’s perceptions of you can make you feel the urge to want to try to change who you come across as in their eyes. The mistake there is that your logic doesn’t necessarily apply to them in the same way and it turns into a bigger misconception than it was before. People think what they want or need to think, sometimes these thoughts work for you but not always. Having someone believe something false about your character can feel like your failure to properly represent yourself which makes you want to fix the discrepancy, creating an unequal dynamic in the relationship: One where you work for their approval.
