Host Koji Steven Sakai talks to actor Roji Oyama. We got to know Roji’s life as a shin-issei, her time in the SF counter culture, her travels, and how he got to where he is. He also gave his five pieces of advice for Koji’s son which included being open to all people, questioning authority, and more.

Guest

A native of Tokyo, Japan, Roji Oyama immigrated to the US in 1958. Raised in a bicultural, bilingual family, the San Francisco resident has also lived in South America, Mexico, and the South Pacific.

Having acted on and off since 1994, Roji’s work has been primarily in industrial/educational film and video, with voice-over and commercial work. Ever the adventurer, he has also worked in commercial real estate, corporate and academic travel industries, as well as SAG's Book Pals in-school reading program, which encourages kids to read. He is involved with community non-profit and assisting in non-profit fundraising projects, and his most recent volunteer project in 2012 took him to the quake-stricken region of Tohoku, Japan.

About Us

Koji wanted to impart all of his "wisdom" to his son. But of course, his son already thinks he knows more than me. So instead of trying to tell him now and having it go in one ear and out the other, he decided to record them here with the hopes that maybe... just maybe... when he's ready he'll listen to his advice in the future and not make the same stupid mistakes he did. He'll also bring on guests to impart their advice as well.  Koji has no doubt their advice will be better than his.
