The Georgia Senate has passed legislation

5:03

aimed at toughening penalties for those selling

5:05

fentanyl that results in overdose deaths.

5:07

Named after Austin Walters, a victim

5:09

of fentanyl laced drugs, the bill creates

5:12

a new charge of aggravated involuntary

5:14

manslaughter, carrying a sentence of 10

5:16

to 30 years or life in prison.

5:19

The. Isolation aims to hold dealers accountable

5:21

without needing to prove they knew the substance

5:23

was tainted. However, concerns have

5:25

been raised about unintended consequences

5:28

such as felony charges for unknowing

5:30

individuals. Additionally, the Georgia

5:32

House is set to consider Senate Bill 371

5:35

that Daniel D C Adderly Jr

5:37

act, which would provide injured police

5:39

officers with lost wages not covered by

5:41

worker's compensation insurance. The bill

5:43

aims to alleviate financial burdens for

5:46

officers recovering from serious injuries

5:48

sustained on duty. Candidates

5:51

from both major parties filed paperwork

5:53

to qualify for various political positions

5:55

at the Georgia Capitol. All 14 congressional

5:58

representatives, 56 state senators,

6:00

and 180 state representatives

6:02

are up for election. Notable developments

6:05

include the open seat in the third district,

6:07

while several Republicans, including former

6:09

state lawmakers, have entered the race

6:11

in terms of Democratic incumbents,

6:13

all five representatives qualify.

6:15

Democratic party Chair Nima Williams

6:18

expressed optimism about the party's prospects

6:20

in Georgia, despite recent polling showing

6:22

mixed sentiments towards President Biden.

6:25

Congresswoman Lucy McBath is running

6:27

in the sixth district after redistricting,

6:29

while Republican Congressman Rich McCormick

6:31

moved to the seventh district. We'll

6:34

be back in a moment.

6:35

This is Liam McGrath, your Ingles dietitian.

6:37

Are you a fan of yogurt? But

6:40

are you trying to avoid added sugar

6:42

by containers of plain yogurt

6:44

or plain Greek yogurt and add your

6:47

own fresh, frozen or canned

6:49

fruit as long as the fruit is packed in

6:51

its own juice. If you like a little

6:53

bit of sweetness, you could add some non

6:55

caloric sweeteners or stir

6:57

in some low sugar jam.

7:00

And now here's my conversation with Leah McGrath

7:03

from Ingles Markets on selling local

7:05

products.

7:06

Hi I'm Leah McGrath. I'm the registered

7:08

dietitian, the corporate dietitian for

7:10

Ingles Markets. I'm here to answer your

7:12

questions about food, nutrition

7:14

and health. You can find me on the Ingles website

7:17

at Ingles Markets. Com

7:19

and click on the wellness tab. You can also

7:22

find me on Twitter as Ingles dietician

7:24

with two teas. And you can find me on Facebook

7:27

as Leah McGrath dietitian.

7:29

So today once again I'm answering

7:31

some of your questions about food, nutrition

7:34

and health.

7:35

Uh, Leah, our next question here is coming

7:37

from Bill. And I like this

7:40

guy's style because he says, I've

7:42

been making my own hot sauce and people

7:44

rave about it. Does

7:46

Ingles ever sell products and how

7:48

can I sell mine at Ingles?

7:51

Oh yeah.

7:52

We definitely do. We have a pretty robust

7:55

local foods program.

7:57

I really encourage people,

7:59

if you have a local product

8:01

that you're making at home, of course, hopefully

8:03

you're making it in, um,

8:06

a commercial kitchen or a certified

8:08

home kitchen to make sure

8:10

it's safe. But, you know, go

8:12

into your local Ingles store and

8:14

get an idea of what your competition

8:16

is and how much

8:19

those products cost. So,

8:21

so you need to have, um, products

8:23

that are of course going to be priced so

8:25

they're competitive. And sometimes

8:28

it's very difficult with big national

8:30

brands, but also, you know,

8:32

packaging that fits on the shelf,

8:35

that looks nice on the shelf

8:37

where people can see the ingredients

8:40

and the SKU,

8:42

the, the scanning code has

8:44

to be on that package. So there's

8:46

a lot of little things that home

8:48

food makers need to do

8:51

first before they try and get their product

8:53

into Ingles, and a good resource

8:55

to find out more about how

8:58

to do that might be

9:00

your local again, your local cooperative

9:02

extension office can really help

9:05

you with some of that information. Maybe

9:07

your local community college

9:09

might have classes on that type

9:11

of thing. And we work with groups

9:13

like, um, Blue Ridge Food Ventures

9:16

and Blue Mountain Distributors to

9:19

make sure products are safe

9:21

for our customers and can get out to our

9:23

stores and then our stocked in

9:25

local sections of the stores. I will tell

9:27

you that hot sauce,

9:30

like it seems like everybody makes

9:32

a hot sauce. So,

9:34

um, there's a lot of competition in that space.

9:37

So if you can make something a little bit more

9:39

unique or different, that might be a

9:41

better track to follow. Well,

9:44

thanks for your time today and for listening

9:46

to the Ask Leah segment.

9:48

If you have nutrition questions, be sure

9:50

and go to the Ingles website and Ingles markets.com.

9:53

Click on the wellness tab. And

9:56

you can also find me on Twitter. Ingles dietician

9:58

10:03

me your questions about food, nutrition

10:05

and health and we'll get them answered for

10:07

you.
