Dear America,

This morning, we’re grateful to wake up to a dawn where we can celebrate and mark today as a win for progressive values and a step towards healing this nation.

However. Let us not forget how by the skin of our teeth we arrived here.

Democrats left it all on the table this time, doggedly trying to land this runaway plane of death, despair, and flagrant inequality. They flew straight into the headwinds to face an army of craven, self-serving, sycophantic, power preservationists that have been hiding in plain sight within the GOP for a generation. This time, we won.

We owe it to the future to convert this victory into the momentum that lets us finally pound down the door to a world where black lives do matter, healthcare is a right, and where we all embody a passion for saving our only planet. To do that, we need to remember these faces. They represent the tip of a rigid old iceberg that’s not going to melt on it’s own. We have to stand together and melt it together. That way our children only need to make sure it never refreezes. Can you live with passing that task down to the next generation?

Throughout our celebrations today, keep this flock of catering anti-patriots in the back of your mind. Know that they did all they could to stoke and stir the flames of a toxic patriarchy where American power rested only in the hands of a few. These cowards have endeavored to be no better than their great-great-grandparent overseers. That is a tragic decision but let’s be open about the fact that that has always been their preference.  They’ve had every opportunity to get off the plane. Instead, they stayed in their seats, too cowardly to stand up and say something when they saw something. Let us not forget how hard they fought not to share their slice of the American pie.

Today is our day though, and ‘with malice’ is not how humanists operate. When we get to work and roll up our sleeves, we keep our arms down to help other people climb up to where they deserve to be. Gloating is a game of the inexperienced and insecure, players fresh-faced to the sensation of victory. This song is not that about that. There is no strategy in gloating. This song seeks to be a reminder that if the chicken shit sycophants pictured above had prevailed, we would be witnessing a full scale fascist war reenactment of proud boys, sizzling as we watch them waltz down Pennsylvania Avenue, probably draped in eagle memorabilia drop-shipped from China.

So let’s lift each other up in healing, all the while keeping in mind that old adage that never expires - “don’t forget your history” lest we find ourselves right back here. For that reason it is important that these chicken shits pictured above go down in history as the mob whipping, power hungry, destruction profiteers that they are. And let us hope that if they can’t resolve it themselves, that all of their hate dies in their own hearts without infecting those of their children. Always remember that proponents of this type of cynical warfare will happily drop in on a mercenary’s wave if they think they can surf it to their advantage. Their ilk may have lost the gavel this time but they’re not going anywhere on their own. They’ll be here stabbing and biting at our ankles for the next 4 years. Forget only at your peril, that they are not chihuahuas. They’re the shittiest kind of hyena you can breed and they’ll eat your face if they ever get the chance.

Today though, let’s all take a deep breath, savor this moment's peace, and exhale in hope. We deserve it. Now enjoy this tune.
