My Updated Tribute

This week, Catalonians voted for independence from Spain during a citizen organized referendum. The voter turnout of more than 2 million Catalonians decided overwhelmingly to seceded from Spain in a landslide victory, with 92% of voters supporting the separation.

Spain's King Felipe V and the Spanish High Court, however, saw the vote as an illegal attempt to leave the country unilaterally.

My heart goes out to the citizens of both Catalonia and Spain. It's a difficult time for all. In the end, though, Catalonia is as unique from Spain with a rich and historic culture. Whatever happens, Catalonia, keep you head high and may the memories your treasured past and the delights of a more free and glory-filled future be yours. I wish both countries and both people's bravery, strength, and honesty forevermore.

My Original Tribute

This year, Freddie Mercury would have been 66 on Sept 5, 2012, but his tragic death on Nov 24, 1991, of HIV/AIDs took him from us, and from his good friend Montserrat Caballé.

The song Barcelona is one of their greatest, and one that I happened to have recordings from their studio sessions and many hours of work - so was able to blend various and nearly unheard versions to remix the song that was finally released.

The song was performed live for the first time in May 1987, at the Ibiza festival, held at the Ku nightclub (now Privilege Ibiza, the "world's largest nightclub"). Another historic performance performance occurred on 8 October 1988, at the open air La Nit festival in Barcelona, which was staged on the occasion of the arrival of the Olympic Flag from Seoul.

I hope this is a wonderful tribute to two great artists, and a show of support to our friends and family out there suffering from HIV/AIDs.
