Meet your hosts:

  • Emily Prokop is a podcast editor from Connecticut. She has been doing Intermittent Fasting since April 2018 and has lost more than 50 pounds.
  • John Bukenas is a podcast editor from New Jersey. He started the podcast doing keto and intermittent fasting, but is now gearing up for bariatric surgery (probably) later this summer.

This episode starts out with a nod to our friends over at The Feed from Libsyn as we greet everyone with a “Good Generic Time of the Day!”

Have you ever heard of Decision Fatigue? Decision Fatigue is the exhaustion that sometimes comes mentally after making too many decisions. It’s said we make 35,000 decisions a day! It’s been proven the more we make these decisions, the more they exhaust us and, consequently, we end up making poorer decisions if we’re not aware of what’s going on.

Decision Fatigue doesn’t just refer to picking out what clothes to wear in the morning (ever wonder why Zuckerberg always wears the same thing?), but it can REALLY impact those trying to diet.

Have you heard of Decision Fatigue before? How does it affect you?

One way to help deter Decision Fatigue is to plan ahead and also start to build predictable habits and routines.

One challenge both John and Emily face is the rebellious part of our brain loves to try to convince us to break our habits, no matter how good those habits are for us. We love breaking rules. Even rules we’ve made for ourselves!

Some things we’ve found helpful for Decision Fatigue:

  • Mapping out our day
  • Time blocking
  • Being aware when we get distracted and off-task
  • Prioritizing what deserves our mental energy
  • Thinking about the overall goal when doing tasks.

John admits in this episode that he was supposed to be taking his Whooshie Pill twice a day, but most days he only took it once. He’s getting used to taking it so often, but at least it’s helping the swelling in his legs!

John’s also realizing the time he’s spending now working to fix the problems with his legs could have never existed had he started taking care of his health more prior to this. Now he’s realizing he’s spending six hours a day taking care of himself.

We also want to send our love to one of our listeners Lisa who had heart complications last week.

We really want to thank our friend Mark from Podcast Branding who created amazing shirts for our podcast with our own little inside jokes on them! Check them out!

John actually gets Emily to do a spit-take later in the show! Find out how ...
