In this episode, William interviews the boys from BoomerangLoop - Ben and Jay.

Ben (29) and Jermaine (33) are both Sydney based and originally come from the cold, bleak, North of England. They have undertaken a mammoth Physical task to raise awareness for Mental Health (something we need more than ever in our current climate) by cycling around Australia in 50 days for a total of 14,251KM - averaging approximately 280km per day.

Both Ben and Jay have no cycling background and, for the most part, are new and unfamiliar with the sport. While fit and strong, both have primarily BodyBuilding/Powerlifting backgrounds where size and strength are the primary training objectives - a stark contrast to the high endurance nature of cycling and the task they have undertaken as untrained, novel cyclists.

Throughout this episode, a range of topics are discussed from Jermaines experience growing up, as, in his own words, the only black kid in his neighbourhood, and how the effects of Racism impacted his life growing up in Northern England as a young/teenage boy and the effect this had - and still has - on his Mental Health.

We also discuss how William & Jermaines involvement in the nightlife industry, as both DJs and Promoters, and the overbearing burden that social media plays in the industry now-a-days, with the constant need to be active to maintain a “presence” and stay “relevant” can take a detrimental toll on the psychological and physical well-being of both.

The conversation progresses to discussing the prevalence of Suicide in the community and how this, having seen the soul crushing pain this leaves behind, has been one of the driving factors for Bens decision to embark on this monumental challenge of physical and mental fortitude.

The discussion goes on to a three-way interchange from Ben, Jay and William about their backgrounds with BodyBuilding, and how the culture of “bigger, stronger, faster”  and the constant need and desire to always be more muscular than before, impacted and distorted all 3 of their perceptions of themselves and their self-esteems. With such a focus now-a-days, through the advent of instagram, the impact that having the “right/ideal” physique has on Men (and Women) is huge and largely untouched in conversation and this segment, in particular, was an eye-opening insight into how this can deeply affect Men.

The conversation draws to a close discussing Ben and Jays training, the difficulties they have faced so far since taking on this task in April 2021 when they began their training, the rejection and discouragement they have had from the naysayers, and how their willingness to complete this task and the importance of what they are undertaking outweighs anything else in their lives.
