Thirty years of exciting and important research has revealed the fundamental causes of cancer, and provided drugs that target and attack malignant cells. These malignant cells, however, can resist the most sophisticated of treatments, and normal cells are also co-opted and corrupted to help a cancer grow and spread. For the most effective and long-lasting treatments, therefore, we may also need to target normal cells in our mission to find cures for cancer.
