As part of the 2024 Developmental Disabilities Conference, Dr. Stefanie Ames, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah, discusses results from her recent study on disability-based discrimination in pediatrics. She describes drivers of discrimination, such as clinician apathy, assumptions and lack of knowledge; and manifestations of discrimination, including limited access, substandard care and dehumanization. As part of this program, Dr. Dennis Kuo, Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Rochester, talks to Dr. Ames about her findings and presents feasible next steps to address disability-based discrimination.
