Today's topic is the Urbanization of Reykjavík and how it transforms the city. Our special guest is Anne-Cécile Mermet, a lecturer at the University of Sorbonne, Paris. She’s going to tell us all about her work and research. We are going to talk about the phenomenon of gentrification in connection with the Airbnb business.
Also on the environment there are consequences of urbanization. Such are:
- Loss of natural ecosystems
- Pollution → water, land, air, soil, noise and light
- Waste management problems
- Urban runoff → Rainwater takes all the pollutants on the “urban surfaces” and takes them with it to rivers and lakes aka into the ecosystem
