The Higashiyama area, located on the east side of Kyoto, is home to a great number of important Kyoto tourist attractions including temples, shrines, gardens, exclusive ryokan inns, restaurants and shopping streets. Many Japanese artistic and/or cultural forms, such as flower arrangement, tea ceremony and Noh theatre, developed and flourished in this area.
