0:06

talented Sarah Hyland. We'll talk about her

0:09

love story with Wells Adams. Why filming

0:11

Modern Family was incredibly hard of moments

0:13

and her dad's D I Y approach

0:16

to keeping her East Village block safe

0:18

when she was a kid. My

0:20

dad his nickname was the Mayor of

0:22

Seventh Street because at night he is

0:24

to actually like walk seventh Street between

0:26

first and second with a baseball bat.

0:30

Yeah. You're gonna want to stick around

0:32

for this. Oh

0:37

what's that? I hear? Is

0:39

that the sound of a spicy margarita being

0:41

0:44

Answer: that question Myself: pick it is it's

0:46

1:04

1:06

place that I've been to before

1:08

and love. It's plant based and

1:10

beloved and vegan vegetarian circles, but

1:12

you don't have to be an

1:14

herbivore to appreciate it. This

1:18

is Dinners on Me and I'm

1:20

your host Jesse Tyler Ferguson. I

1:22

chose today spot for someone I

1:24

consider a little spicy. Yet oh

1:26

1:29

loves tacos and makes responsible nutrition

1:31

choices. I mean, she makes biderman

1:33

infused chocolates for god's sake, Shudder

1:35

to source. So without further ado,

1:38

you might know her from Pitch

1:40

Perfect Bumper in Berlin the wedding

1:42

year, or has my niece for

1:44

Eleven Seasons on Modern Family It

2:19

2:21

her face is kind of like i

2:24

2:26

she's like enough is enough Cel. Mai

2:28

2:37

2:44

2:46

2:48

2:51

2:53

2:55

3:20

3:22

I. Decided. To get a

3:24

spray tan rep for the Emmys? Oh yes,

3:27

3:29

it allows. You

3:31

3:33

4:12

Shades darker than I normally. What did? You wash

4:21

4:27

life for the I was the end of

4:29

a rigged I was like God by Sunday

4:31

and I'd say that sounds good to go.

4:33

Into Details or the Emmys? That maybe not

4:35

as a preemie. Applied in no no I'm

4:37

never going to those with cel on now. I'm

4:39

a sucker for Julie Bowen about this little bit

4:42

like offensive the beginning when the show was new

4:44

and we were like the new kid on the

4:46

block and my you know everyone was celebrating os

4:48

and they were throwing a party for us like

4:51

because it was so excited about the so and

4:53

then like an awesome are we went away a

4:55

high who are. Known

4:58

need to have fled, say

5:00

anything to certain. Resonance.

5:03

I would love an agua Fresca.

5:07

Onto watermelon seeds. And

5:09

I was. A

5:11

C Know that he tapped. At

5:15

Kfc seem to know my so much that

5:17

they glad that we all got of the

5:19

beginning of with you know going to those

5:21

parties and his feeling that wave of supports

5:23

and then you know we were lucky enough

5:26

to have that unison so long run with

5:28

it. But there was that time and doing

5:30

overtime Fiala what that time was like when

5:32

thus support started going psychopath. Your

5:34

time's up. Get out of out of the

5:37

fourth when I didn't know how to exit

5:39

the into exactly yeah Retirement nice and long

5:41

6:57

spicy Mar some says a

6:59

basic right now. I

7:01

really love Spicy March so does

7:03

it out. I have so many

7:05

things are so let's talk. First

7:07

of all, I was thinking today

7:10

about how are your childhood was like my

7:12

dream to see he's going to be nice

7:14

I was Verizon obscene amount ha I dreamed

7:16

going to New York. I watched the twenty

7:18

Words of recently as a bad so I

7:20

didn't know what me or was. yeah that's

7:23

what I want to be Funny little money

7:25

the in the kid and zachary as a

7:27

guide since wanna go some day and you

7:29

would normally born in New York for you

7:31

were raised their why I believe both your

7:34

parents were actor rising among an actress minor

7:36

you know yet is currently working and Harry

7:38

Potter yeah. On Broadway similar though I'm

7:40

on Broadway on bigger Mama's with

7:42

his his was an actress is

7:44

an aunt. Is. Now was

7:46

then. Okay to got sick either time

7:49

in between Mister Concepts and your brother was

7:51

an actor and my goodness to talk to

7:53

me about. Like not only like which is.

7:56

Growing up a dark, a child actor, new your

7:58

for accidents, living as a. Head in

8:00

that city. Yeah, it's it's

8:03

wild, you know any? It's always

8:05

like. Grass. Is greener type

8:07

of sassy girls and of my good

8:09

three hundred square foot a partner with

8:11

it. how many kids and on that

8:13

off top of the side floor walk

8:15

out with mice everywhere like I'm so

8:17

grateful for it and I loved every

8:19

second of it growing up that it

8:21

it definitely was like I knew it

8:23

was different. but yeah, I couldn't imagine

8:25

a difference as a child had even

8:27

when I was a child. like even

8:29

in that present moment you know, the

8:31

eastern edge. I grew up on seventh

8:33

between first and second. Street and East

8:36

Village in the nineties. It.

8:39

Was not not what it is now

8:41

and it was very dangerous is my

8:44

dad had on his nickname was the

8:46

Mayor of Seven street because at night

8:48

he is sue actually like lox Seventh

8:50

street between first and second with a

8:52

baseball bat. And that.

8:56

I cannot imagine Andrew nice. Blog:

8:59

A lot of intimacy with a baseball that it's a

9:01

kind. Of like our own lives street patrol time

9:03

so sort of as a doing it is and

9:06

how soon. As an intimidation tactics to get you know

9:08

like there was a lot of people on the street

9:10

that had little kids and. You

9:12

know how to protect. You know,

9:14

just like he, but he wouldn't have

9:16

my job a baseball mother. yeah and

9:19

so everyone nickname him the Mayor of

9:21

Seven Six assess what he did. so

9:23

as it is. It's very wild thinking

9:26

about my childhood, about how my parents

9:28

had to literally like lift me up

9:30

out of the fly a because they

9:33

were needles their from overnight so I'm

9:35

it was very very dangerous growing up

9:37

that I didn't think of anything otherwise.

9:40

Hello. Mike. Martz.

9:44

Young I think you. So

9:46

much use embedded within a hundred. A

9:49

nice to have your army. I started

9:51

acting and making money when you were

9:53

for I was for a yam and

9:55

that was like what voiceovers commercials. I

9:57

played Howard Stern's daughter and sizes. Then

10:00

right. When I came out ninety seven billion,

10:02

I started. I was for are you

10:04

serious Yeah do you remember her name

10:06

out with my every single moment? I

10:09

mean tell me but what you remember

10:11

it is a H form and being

10:13

a working actor in New York. It's

10:16

a strange I think I'm a

10:18

few people that remember way too

10:20

much about. I'm

10:22

sorry remember thing that happens here for ah.

10:24

My yeah I mean. Mm

10:26

le haut de simple says because I've been

10:29

begging my parents to let me on this

10:31

and and then being. In a

10:33

feeder actors. They're like

10:35

know you're going to face or jackson and before

10:37

for the rest of your knife on her her

10:40

wanna be an actor trust me it's asic know

10:42

I I this is me and i post my

10:44

dad's or this and so he or not isn't

10:46

a private parts and then they saw me and

10:48

they were like oh my gosh who has long.

10:50

Curly hair you have taught doesn't say how sorry I

10:52

got. It my dad didn't

10:55

and so were filming at

10:57

Jfk. And it's

10:59

really just me and I can't remember. the

11:01

other little girl's name is who says that

11:03

Shipley, My older sister. It's just like as

11:06

running up the Howard Stern's Screaming Daddy Die

11:08

In Semi. That's and like walking away. It

11:10

was the easiest gig for a four year

11:12

old. And arms or

11:14

something. I'd say I came. My.

11:17

Quote Unquote Trailer was a conference. Room.

11:20

And. They're like hi, I'm so it's

11:22

on the Ps. what do you want to

11:24

eat at? I heard p A N in my

11:27

head I thought personal. Assistant professor.

11:30

So I was like oh personal assistant think

11:32

you some as I get this entire conference

11:34

room to myself. looks healthy as the I

11:36

am I would like them fees and soccer

11:39

covered strawberries. Thank you so much with the

11:41

thrive and and she was like I'm I'm

11:43

not sure if there's a blimp easier but

11:46

I will see what I can do and

11:48

I will see what to do. That talk

11:50

with covered strawberries and our case somehow they

11:52

made it. Happens only around at a turkey

11:55

sandwich from one season truck with covered strawberries

11:57

I was like this is the life. By

12:00

the way, p A stands for Production Assistant

12:02

Warmth, not your parcels. For

12:06

your own times, I know productions. As

12:08

my dad had been gathering feeders so

12:10

I didn't know this film television life

12:13

and so I just thought personal assistant

12:15

and that It was like the most

12:17

glamorous saying in the world for me

12:19

and I had so much fun and

12:22

Howard was just that scientists individual and

12:24

I just remember thinking like you have

12:26

the bluest eyes I ever see. Are

12:29

so pretty. Grass. And then

12:31

the next job that I got was. Things.

12:33

And of her innocence, daughter and objects

12:35

my success and I had a Honey

12:37

Wagons There was no one piece or

12:40

chocolate covered. Strawberries and one honey widely

12:42

dispersed for people who have narrowed about

12:44

is like or how would you describe.

12:46

I'd say it's kind of like a

12:48

sleeve of a room on asleep. So

12:50

much of a room upset, a seat

12:52

on the rails if it, if it,

12:54

If it's if it. Basically.

12:56

I a trailer that's divided into

12:59

like for three or four parts.

13:01

and maybe I would. Say more like

13:03

five or. Something. Like

13:05

easier little segment of the of the trailer

13:07

and sometimes of the bathroom and a usually

13:09

now. Or woke in. It ends.

13:12

And ninety's the Honey Wagons You

13:14

lifted up a position of the

13:16

couch. And it got way right steps for

13:18

I remember the first time I guess actually

13:20

was in wind that added to a server

13:22

converted to it's one of like this cannot

13:24

be sounded are now these measures sitting on

13:26

out when it was you know when wouldn't

13:28

want to go out and brickhouse and been

13:31

feeling very uncomfortable to be first person was

13:33

just like blue lights me as with water

13:35

you know who knows how many people have

13:37

been in. here are my daughter novel is

13:39

the exact details it was all very disturbing.

13:41

yeah odds are that was one. How do

13:43

I feel as a honey worried about. A

13:46

been able to moser shock a surname. A

13:48

diversion of a com for yeah, yeah exactly.

13:51

From the and and covered strawberries and conference

13:53

in my mom was like oh thank goodness

13:55

she's not and want to act anymore because

13:57

she sees how nice really is our. The

14:00

actor. Said then I would you

14:02

know and be doing my penmanship on on the side

14:04

of the street because it was a nice day out

14:06

in. The. One honey wagon so like

14:08

a bathroom because it was road and Jennifer

14:10

Anniston som ensues like oh, Has. Failed

14:16

your horses. And my mom

14:18

was like. I'm.

14:21

Trying to teach my daughter a lesson that

14:23

it is not all glamour and now you're

14:26

inviting her into your entire trip with some

14:28

said any for hair samples and it was

14:30

like one of those massive trailers and you

14:32

know she's Jennifer for can and a sense.

14:35

Of ahead of friends right now at. Like

14:37

like beginning site like that. Like

14:39

essentially like mater family season see.

14:41

Your Uri kind of of Israel. A.

14:43

Big big deal has it's a massive trailer

14:45

and I would just to like. Jennifer Anniston

14:48

would help me with my penmanship and everything

14:50

and my mom was like my goodness my

14:52

my daughter's just like. The luckiest

14:54

two little girls ever that she

14:57

keeps getting his heart hold

14:59

into these places. And. of

15:01

her I've always wondered as because I

15:03

did not come from parents of bar

15:06

near my parents were not in the

15:08

entertainment for the house but I know

15:10

that some of my friends in of

15:12

grew up with with parents who were

15:14

playwrights and announcers and on what was

15:17

it like for you were. Growing.

15:19

Up with parents who were successful they were

15:22

working on but you know if you were

15:24

sort of hitting it at a different levels

15:26

seems like even early on and yards you

15:28

know if that was like for your dad

15:31

and for your mom to to sort of.

15:34

Be. Separate and you into this industry

15:36

and have you doing so well it

15:38

was. There are complications with that. On

15:41

My parents have always been so supportive

15:43

Other than then saying no, don't become

15:46

an actor. Us right? Once

15:48

they realize that that the train and left the station

15:50

and they couldn't stop and they realize you know like

15:52

will we have to support her now. And to research

15:54

on his ride. My dad

15:56

would you know he was doing Merchant of Venice

15:58

soon as it. Dirty to remove

16:01

all. I'm just kind of like really taking

16:03

any job. He said to put money on

16:05

the table so he would be in Colorado

16:07

for six months at a time. and here

16:09

I was. You know, on television shows and

16:12

doing movies left and right at. But I

16:14

think that they were always. Just.

16:16

Really proud of me and just always making

16:18

sure that I wanted to do it. I

16:20

don't think they ever resented me in any

16:23

type of way. I think they just realized,

16:25

you know, like a I guess this is

16:27

what our daughter's going to do with her

16:29

life. We really hoped for her. To be

16:31

a doctoral or a lawyer who? something. We

16:34

wanna make sure that she doesn't make

16:37

any. Mistakes and I'm so

16:39

grateful for how my parents raised me

16:41

and and and navigated that. me being

16:43

in the industry and kind of doing

16:45

things that they weren't even doing and

16:48

had never done before. But you know

16:50

I wasn't like a Dakota fanning at

16:52

a H and were like I was.

16:54

I was just like kind of like

16:56

a steady working. Actor around

16:58

the age. Of four to eighteen, Andra

17:01

when modern when I look modern.

17:03

Family that was like the big

17:05

rocket to the moon pillars kind

17:07

of thing. I think that honestly

17:09

because I came from it's sphere

17:11

families and because I had essentially

17:13

displayed jewelry my entire life for.

17:15

Fourteen. Years earlier. In tv

17:18

17:20

things like that, it was it.

17:22

It really helped. Set. Me

17:24

up for. Navigating.

17:26

Modern Family to the success

17:28

that. I. Was able

17:31

to just personally on a personal note because

17:33

it really could have gone sideways. So me

17:35

I was eighteen of the living in L

17:37

A I myself I could have become that

17:39

club. Girl and. Things could

17:42

have gone spirits for more so he

17:44

think because the way that my parents

17:46

raised me and navigated me within the

17:48

industry. and you know like my mom

17:50

was a wardrobe supervisor at some point.

17:52

So like any time I do a

17:54

job I hang up my wardrobe It

17:56

could be side am in the morning

17:58

after crazy long nights. you. I'm

18:00

18:03

everybody leaves their wardrobe on the ground

18:05

18:07

that has to pick it up and

18:09

hang it up themselves And that two

18:12

three minutes of their time for every

18:14

single after act. So. Much am I am a

18:16

so far for one. So for me, that's that's

18:18

something that I always do. So I think

they always is truly raise me to have

of of me when I first started to so

22:17

obviously I was single. but you are were you

22:19

living with your boyfriend at the time. And

22:22

know so. I. Remember it

22:24

was either is that say or

22:26

the day before your first state

22:28

was just sent somehow filming. At

22:31

A and Glory As Ah what it was

22:33

No idea or ten months is that? Where's

22:35

22:38

A and Glory As And you come up

22:40

to Maine and you're like I had a

22:42

date with a twenty. I

22:45

was like have a day with a twenty three

22:47

year. Old. We

22:49

both had days a week and with like twenty.

22:51

Three on as I was like married and I was.

22:53

So excited I was like oh my gosh, these

22:56

other guys are going to marry anyone on that

22:58

one day and have. Absolutely no No. I hope

23:00

this works out with the twenty three year old for

23:02

jersey has a. Murderer yesterday and of so funny.

23:04

Remember that I know I'm that are all

23:06

that's hilarious I am going in order I'm

23:09

sort of appeasement. I was like okay maybe

23:11

just voice too young for me. A fair

23:13

and I are both I'm so I'm sorry.

23:15

I probably like. Accidently freak you out

23:17

in that moment and. Even

23:20

to serie not. In retrospect, my own right

23:22

assets are hard topic. Of

23:24

the V now we've we've all the case and

23:26

together with I feel we all. It's it's it.

23:29

doesn't feel like I'm the old man of the

23:31

group even though none at all. I am a.

23:35

Half of my husband's older than your has

23:37

no assess assess as soon as a big

23:39

hodgepodge of. People. We love

23:41

it really really is or hits the certainly at

23:43

this time. You know and you know I see

23:46

things are things are changing rapidly You? yeah steady

23:48

work you have is John is so that's a

23:50

huge said. Are you for some appreciate how you

23:52

say you don't want to be defined by your

23:55

health struggles? Yeah But this is also a time

23:57

when you were having lot of how struggle. It

24:00

is when your career you're going to

24:02

not only like you know early twenties,

24:04

late teens which is such a small

24:06

I see we're to time anyway as

24:08

figuring out you know you're you're dating

24:10

people trying to figure out who who

24:13

won in a partner and then on

24:15

top of that dealing with something that

24:17

is not only putting you in a

24:19

sense not a pain but also changing

24:21

the way he was in a in

24:23

a period when like you are on

24:25

the hottest show on television was his

24:28

face said it was like we were.

24:30

On a five of. Five. And me around

24:32

three? Crazy yes. But it's like all

24:34

eyes are on us. Yeah yeah yeah

24:36

yeah. I mean. You

24:38

talk a little bit about what that felt like

24:41

from it's also a hub and we've had this

24:43

conversation so many times. Have so many people to

24:45

have this conversation with someone who is in that

24:47

space with you. Ah, months. I just hope that

24:49

you know you know I'm I'm sure to take

24:51

care of. You know, I don't want Sudan's Your

24:54

Hands exploiting this moment of your life because it's

24:56

something I know that was really hard for you

24:58

to go through without Like for you. I

25:01

remember there's a day on

25:03

Sats. Ah I

25:06

see. And.

25:10

I'm isn't just supreme amount of

25:12

hand. And sell

25:14

I were. I just kind of like a

25:16

seem like realizing something in there wasn't enough

25:19

time to go back to my trailer that

25:21

I also like. I'm fairly new so I

25:23

Santa's little corner and Sarah and like single

25:25

or his kids and I was always that

25:27

say and glory as long as the owner

25:30

so much. As a family seem are almost

25:32

all we ever. How? Yes! Exactly and sell armor

25:34

and I was kind of curl up

25:36

into a ball and you came up

25:38

to me in an and and very

25:40

lightly touched me on the so is

25:42

the i felt like everybody at that

25:44

time thought like as i them breathe

25:46

on her skin a break and on

25:48

the you're just like. And I

25:51

get you anything is there? Anything. You

25:53

Need and see or for yell

25:55

and me being the you know.

25:58

Oh, the Dictator And so. That are

26:00

on a date Anybody I was like no

26:02

I'm fine, I'm fine says at the is

26:04

I'm fine, Everything is gonna be okay and

26:06

I'm. In a it's just

26:09

like I just wanted to let

26:11

you know how appreciative I am

26:13

for that They know in the

26:15

moments I was probably very cold

26:17

in in in that place but

26:19

it was also like a protective

26:21

of like they expel any energy

26:23

and even energy of gratitude to

26:26

a person that I love so

26:28

dearly. that's gonna take away from

26:30

us this. Trying to freeze

26:32

myself in this moment so they don't feel

26:34

any more pain than I already do. So

26:36

want you to know that like any time

26:38

you did, any of that. Always

26:41

so appreciative of it. I think what

26:43

it goes back to is what you

26:45

were talking about before. Is this that

26:47

workhorse mentality said that comes from my

26:50

parents of of you don't know when

26:52

the next job is going to be

26:54

and you always have to work hard.

26:56

and if you don't work hard and

26:58

if you complain it's oh. You.

27:01

Get the boot wrong. so

27:04

for me if I ignored

27:06

or how i sell. Most.

27:09

Definitely not healthy. Please don't do their

27:11

from her Amazon account or less has

27:14

is is is how I got through

27:16

something else if I ignored us or

27:18

tried to set aside my pain and

27:20

just. Forge. Ahead

27:22

and that that was the only way

27:25

that I knew how and that was

27:27

the only. Honestly, that was the only

27:29

way that I was going to be

27:31

able to make it through anything was

27:33

just you work and you just constantly

27:35

work and he constantly distract yourself with

27:38

work and and that's it. For.

27:40

Me: It's. I don't remember

27:42

a lot of film and and because

27:44

I was always focused on this essentially

27:47

just surviving and knowing my lines and

27:49

being there one hundred percent when they

27:51

l doc sin and then immediately collapsing

27:53

when they have clients. For when

27:56

modern family was heading emphasis

27:58

advice from either. Mostly

28:01

from friends of mine who had been through

28:03

similar experience with a sign a them Will

28:05

and Grace or as nervous as friendly with

28:07

Matthew Perry from of who was on friends

28:09

give them My friend had stating amateurs I'm

28:11

almost all the basic I was. I just

28:14

remember every moment and really make it all

28:16

n sit there. Is that saying words like

28:18

it's you weren't You weren't you Lily weren't

28:20

capable of it. You want to hide, Sue

28:22

sub preserve his arm. I remember a day

28:24

when we were shooting and if we were

28:27

if is I don't know the specifics of

28:29

the scene and you might not remember it

28:31

as if I think you're in as intense

28:33

amount of tannadice were pushing a car. Oh

28:35

My. God. I remember that so much I

28:37

doubt. You have doubts I

28:40

wasn't. I doubt it was.

28:42

That's right, you had gotten I remember. You

28:45

are where I have a high heel shoe.

28:47

High heels. Hadn't been established by

28:49

the wet suits, you had not been a

28:51

feeling. I got cabbage on my side. Of

28:56

that is running nine. Our. Rubbing it also has

28:58

a was very intense on how. Busy

29:00

have not established my outfits and they

29:02

insisted the sad to say your name

29:05

I would sit there sitting on the

29:07

internet. About like are we were being brought

29:09

to us as yeah. I

29:11

I I had doubts to say it put me I

29:13

was retaining so much water they put me on. Like.

29:16

Water, pills or a what am whatever. It was an

29:18

an end. Because I was put on that I got

29:21

doubt in my foot. It was. The most excruciating

29:23

pain so vividly I can. I don't know,

29:25

I don't I'm of the seems that so

29:27

concerned about you. There. Was there was something

29:30

on the windshields? In the

29:32

Snow. Rip it off and was pushing. It really

29:34

isn't a car and you? yeah? because you were.

29:37

Up there are some of the sun rules. Are

29:40

set on organizers there's something have to

29:42

go to behave think Rb Records relatives

29:44

his opponents. aggressive left. There are so

29:46

few industries I feel were like people

29:49

are expected to work through illness like

29:51

that. and I do feel like the

29:53

entertainment business especially if you're in front

29:56

a camera you know if they tell

29:58

rights off for late. Reminds

30:00

war for months where you go to thank

30:02

you how to have to show off I

30:05

hope you will give you hear this pray

30:07

to make to just know it's coming from

30:09

specific the law but I'm not in energies

30:11

strong as crazy as mom I just remember

30:14

how strong you are during that time Nothing

30:16

House is this little months scandals I mean

30:18

as see that such super power we were.

30:21

we were filming a whole episode add on.

30:23

Lake Tahoe where we're on our on our

30:26

make hurt and you are in the middle

30:28

of dialysis Neuwirth after shooting you would get.

30:30

Driven like for is or her hours

30:32

to Bruno was a rino to do

30:34

dialysis around and come back to to

30:37

work the next day and these were

30:39

the things that were going on in

30:41

your life. and then on top of

30:43

that it's also be you know, the

30:45

starlit of this. Of this

30:47

suit show and a have all these eyes

30:49

on you. I just

30:51

your strengths still to the even A

30:54

In retrospect as I as I as

30:56

I zoom out and you know the

30:58

show is A for five years behind

31:00

a south It's it's it's it's been

31:02

a while and the pandemic really a

31:05

I am us with our timeline but

31:07

he really just sits at astonishes me

31:09

and it also just isn't It makes

31:11

me wonder why I can't have more

31:14

strength to myself. As

31:16

you truly. Rangers Such a superhuman

31:18

truly truly. Thank you so much!

31:21

I love you so much. Ends I

31:23

think we needed to hear that. Ah,

31:26

Ideal. I guess he knows that work

31:28

were saying they'll just keep doing it.

31:32

And. Then you forget and you don't

31:34

brag that about like a look what

31:37

I have countless others have done

31:39

and I do know that my strength

31:41

is something that I am very proud

31:43

as realized. Is

31:47

absolutely delicious! I can't believe this

31:49

is not says what. Was

31:52

32:21

something insane happened during this time

about four years ago it's another dog and

33:06

maybe got a day with will suffer ghosts.

33:08

Bootleg it is you know it's it's a

33:10

very of of it's a very vulnerable place

33:12

the have to put yourself in see when

33:14

you meet anyone knew and you were in

33:17

such a vulnerable state vs as disney or

33:19

just had to is a physical human being

33:21

and am. I mean,

33:23

I mean, I know firsthand that I've I lived

33:25

33:28

was like sensitive. For.

33:30

Involves answer life at that point. The

33:32

yeah it was so it's it's kind of

33:34

those to say that as the most of

33:36

it at the past queen as I am

33:38

I ever worked out such as Sad as

33:40

Harry. As a citizen, I. Told

33:43

you guys about him for the first time

33:45

in saw how the we have been talking

33:47

33:49

Tahoe came around and Taylor said came out

33:51

34:08

course, like Justin, and well seeing the

34:10

Portuguese Kings that they are, I have

34:12

a he was like, oh, he's hot,

34:14

yeah, and. And. Yeah, I don't

34:17

I just was. says. Is open

34:19

to add. I could tell he

34:21

was a really good guy and

34:24

we were texting and and singing

34:26

voice memos at nonstop to each

34:28

other and then like getting on

34:31

insane linked It's it's graduated to

34:33

the phone calls and arsenal and

34:35

a all it's absolutely ridiculous and

34:38

I'm. Lucy was

34:40

opening up a lot to me

34:42

about like very personal things and.

34:45

I. Was sick man like been on the

34:47

bachelorettes is really did have a book.

34:49

It's like you went to be up.

34:52

Boot. Camps for Love. Ya are you

34:54

from a couple of it? Yes yes

34:56

I have. Well as was no wells

34:58

was art contest on about Sohrab yes

35:01

arm and you were watching Nazis and

35:03

I was you Words? Sweet!

35:06

Something about had read. It he was on

35:08

the mental all and he made a reference to not

35:10

only Harry Potter, but Lord of the. Summons for

35:12

our i'm not issues bus or buts

35:14

regime. International is like that, we union

35:16

type. okay doubts about socratic method our

35:18

nation and not bachelor nation. Was I'm a.

35:21

Part. Of wouldn't Vaccinations for culture

35:23

The ground based gotcha. Okay our

35:25

are. Either fan base or like

35:27

people. That. Had been on this Sullenberger

35:29

I know, or. How are guess married? It is

35:31

very much more than a vagina is a

35:33

rather large was as his or his aren't

35:35

very long have one pursuit of not our time

35:38

in his nose and. Gilad wells here. part

35:40

about when. A son or do is

35:42

on. Remember. So I like tweeted about

35:44

him he slid is my Dm and

35:46

then we stop talking and then a

35:48

year later arma I was single again

35:50

and said and was actually started talking

35:52

the am me out now as I

35:54

guess argue that wait really what assists

35:56

Wow did nothing to this is gonna

35:58

happen as a healer. In Nashville at

36:00

the time so I'm so it would

36:03

have been long distance and I think

36:05

that's the really great seeing about a

36:07

relationship is that not only did we

36:09

start long distance that we started just

36:11

on this phone on the like almost

36:13

like a modern day love letters reality

36:16

to like offered. Who are like I'm

36:18

into delay. Or for for her

36:20

allies or me and. My and

36:22

yeah, we've really, really got to know

36:24

each other before we even. Were.

36:27

Physically and the same room. afraid armor

36:29

So I felt very safe and comfortable

36:31

with him. That I'm obviously not enough

36:34

to tell him what was going on

36:36

medically in my life and invited her

36:38

know realize you know, like man like

36:40

a release. I can. I.

36:43

Think I could probably marry this guy

36:45

like. Is really like before going ham. I

36:47

yeah I was just like this is like

36:50

such a sarong connection and I have such

36:52

an amazing feeling about this. I'm gonna put

36:54

this out there is I'm not going to

36:57

start saving him when I'm in recovery. like

36:59

absolutely not arm. I've been through this before

37:01

and I know how hard it is when

37:03

you're recovering like that's not gonna happen soon

37:06

as this route out there. And as I

37:08

say, I'm having some

37:10

have then next week's and it's gonna

37:12

take me out of commission for the

37:14

next couple months so I can use

37:16

a come to our labor like within

37:18

the next week or else I don't

37:21

think that this can continue. And he

37:23

did. And we had our first date

37:25

at the night before the Emmys party.

37:27

And. That's when I told him that I

37:30

was on dialysis and that I was on

37:32

a Saturday and that next to say that

37:34

Saturday night before the Emmys party or for

37:36

states the next day was the Emmys. Our.

37:39

Second date after that Monday we had work

37:41

I'm on her family and to they have

37:43

a transplant and so I told him at

37:46

the night before the Emmys parties and he

37:48

made a joke because it's wells and if

37:50

he's uncomfortable he makes himself me as I

37:52

have a brother ask for that back ah

37:54

ha ha and I like know he camps

37:56

it doesn't work that way through like oh

37:58

okay and he likes. Like my life.

38:00

My really really serious I for the first

38:03

time see like oh this is like really

38:05

like This is really serious. And new

38:07

knowing that an ordained as an obituary been

38:09

through to be transferred before. I don't. I

38:11

don't I. Say have never arsema to say

38:13

he was a fan of the so. Rice.

38:16

Is as since I see like damn. I

38:19

guess like it was like in the first

38:21

few years of modern and he was watching

38:23

it with his buddies and he turned onto

38:25

his friends and was like good with he'll

38:27

is hop that like am I allowed to say

38:30

that? is that? Okay. Are you realize

38:32

that I was like a widow?

38:34

No desire. Sensor his three like

38:36

looking through like the I was

38:38

nineteen. It's it's existence. A favorable

38:40

response to a hypocrite and Missouri.

38:43

So like I don't know as he actually

38:45

knew I'd been through one before. Or

38:47

not, but buzzers, You see you

38:49

when into surgery like right after

38:51

meeting him basically yeah and then

38:53

with. What happened? Like to

38:55

scrub those days after disease? Did you say

38:57

turn away right? Know. He was. He

38:59

went back to Nurse Now after the

39:02

Emmys. He was there that weekend for

39:04

the Dogs Hero Awards so that I

39:06

presented as a surprise on and that

39:09

Asia you we just. I was in

39:11

the hospital on a crazy amount of

39:13

drugs ah moat what I like to

39:15

call Greenland and I was seats timing

39:18

him. Lord knows what I'm. Sad because

39:20

of of afford that have. Faced

39:22

a heavy wells and a half of I

39:24

remember he had like the I Heart Music

39:26

Awards and Sages. there's something like that on

39:29

the hard for I hard at the time

39:31

as A as a D a radio dj

39:33

and down see was there and he was

39:35

on this bus with all of these people

39:37

from the Bachelor that like I knew from

39:39

watching from television i'm in a hospital bed

39:41

so flight. Since. Loses high off

39:43

my ass oh my god and battle

39:46

of aswell I met you and however

39:48

as a i was just and and

39:50

like he put up with that me

39:52

was just so wonderful inclined and made

39:54

fall asleep on the phone with him

39:56

and even like okay him I'm gonna

39:58

text you to know. You fell asleep

40:00

on the phone to see you know and

40:02

on It was great and then he would

40:05

just come out once a week. Once I

40:07

was able to see people and percent of

40:09

her got i'll a Hospital and and that's

40:11

how we really started our relationship. It was.

40:13

It was wild and crazy by it. I

40:15

think I needed that. Will

40:18

be right back by. don't go

40:20

away Next we'll talk about wells

40:22

answer as wedding which I associated.

40:24

Thank you very much. Okay, be

40:26

right back. And

40:36

we're back with more dinners on mean. I

40:39

mean to meet someone and obviously the highs

40:41

and lows of hop at that time for

40:43

for you are just or is so astonished

40:45

me. I mean it's limited catholic in that

40:47

weekend. Oh yeah not only do me a

40:49

guy who really likes you go to the

40:51

Emmys I think we did We win that

40:53

you're of and efforts and I'm sorry his

40:55

how we got lost our testified are for

40:57

but still morality. Yeah First time. It

41:00

was a low but then it was a homage

41:02

and was unless one of champagne problems in an

41:04

earlier had a existence. Of a

41:06

to test the relationship at such as

41:08

early as like him in within a

41:10

say instances as it's it's it's for

41:12

marketable persona to survive youse arm and

41:15

I You guys are such a great

41:17

couple and it certainly was something mad

41:19

music a little like slam of all

41:21

he ever was Stewart Sarah's and was

41:23

his wedding by services As a general

41:25

feeling a docile weekend of like okay

41:27

these two people were of were meant

41:30

to be together and you know you

41:32

had gone through so much to get

41:34

to that day. For those

41:36

who don't know I did appreciate

41:38

the wedding as as an amazing

41:40

every other reside at. The

41:42

world works in mysterious ways because I

41:44

can't imagine you not now yes I

41:47

think wells and for those I don't

41:49

know was and I had planned to

41:51

have time area yes those of I

41:53

thought that it was an amazing oh

41:56

my gosh to Modern A in a

41:58

way that you know filming. Haley

42:00

and then sides had marry. Me

42:02

and is great. I were like. Oh

42:04

my gosh, And then and. Or

42:07

the se because he told us ten

42:09

days so for emergencies happen at and

42:11

so then that. Wells. And

42:13

I had a discussion and immediately called

42:15

you because we're like if he can

42:17

do this we need to the only

42:20

to tell him now and we're just

42:22

so grateful because it was. You are

42:24

absolute perfection. You were Gandalf. Upper upper

42:26

upper Atmosphere. For

42:28

good be able to do that was for

42:30

sources the honor but then also I got

42:32

to be a part of like is really

42:35

intimate moments like I got to be a

42:37

Beds in Urbana rather than ours for dinner

42:39

and on. There is such a theme of

42:41

like you know your brother Stan ever more

42:43

diverse, not a dry eye in another room

42:45

out as or Donovan sit up and talked

42:47

about his deep love for wells and has

42:50

deep love for you and just knowing that

42:52

you are on this planet because of the

42:54

sacrifice that he made his in knowing about

42:56

of since the detectives when you to I

42:58

mean it was just it was so overwhelming

43:00

and there is a so much love in

43:02

that room and on I was truly honored

43:04

to be part of as Samsung week and

43:07

you know we Rothys see. Also relieved because

43:09

it has been a wedding that we all

43:11

knew was on the books for way that

43:13

point two and a half years. Yeah, I

43:15

mean not to go back to modern,

43:17

but. Here we

43:19

ended even is the pandemic weep

43:21

for me as I. As

43:24

not going to be the for the

43:26

pandemic happened as it is not going

43:28

to be a hard for me like

43:30

everyone's like I was flying. Now that

43:32

it's fine I'm gonna hit me and

43:34

I guess when we're not coming back

43:36

to the cel putin were all coming

43:38

together in August for my wedding anyway

43:40

the like whatever cell phone it's each

43:42

other in August like so test suite

43:44

a denial of it as. And

43:47

like a publicist for a very

43:49

very very long time that I

43:51

insulated every single second of it

43:53

and I was able to actually

43:55

be very presence was as is

43:57

very. Grateful for no. More.

43:59

To tell her to. That. Had

44:03

to see I miss you so much. Just

44:06

and definitely like we have to do a

44:08

double date because he's like I have any.

44:10

When he knew I was coming he almost

44:12

came by the way about. I

44:15

now. Regret! We

44:17

flew to Mexico City and he brought back a little

44:20

bit about what about any my his you so much

44:22

I would love to have a double Its and. I

44:24

would lead to admit I'm probably just gonna have

44:26

to do it Civil liberties as as well Sleep

44:29

on Sunday for. Be I

44:31

P S or and paradigm or

44:33

okay, well me files do with

44:35

Autumn. So that's why ever all

44:38

of the no need to be

44:40

part of it was from a

44:43

cast away. From

44:47

Metabolites the Mouth of Hobby. Just go to bed

44:50

early and you now just playing some doors for

44:52

an item for I. Said

44:55

I was a possessive was in my dream. Buys

44:57

Oh my Glob Melatonin Southland. Because

44:59

the way the most likely not afraid

45:01

to system really want to Canada France.

45:06

Was really cool the are going to

45:08

know them thing this episode and got

45:10

our now has happened twice already I

45:12

know but not attempt a camp or

45:14

can manifest that hasn't happened. I know

45:17

I almost didn't. My

45:20

area the same. Process

45:22

and I had to like up for

45:24

free us from our on that doesn't

45:27

know them and again. Or

45:29

that I love. Me so much for

45:31

having me my coffee to your icons

45:34

on the top is on. Dinner is

45:36

dinners on Me! Ah. There's

45:46

probably work cast members from on her

45:48

family that I see the most, but

45:50

normally it's a double date or a

45:52

larger group. So he was so nice

45:55

to have some one on one time

45:57

with her. I was absolutely fascinated by

45:59

her early years. New York City, having

46:01

to working actors as parents, a small

46:03

railroad apart and with a bath in

46:05

the kitchen? I mean, no wonder they're

46:08

also close. I think this a Brazilian

46:10

said she learned through osmosis to seeing

46:12

her parents worked so hard to put

46:15

food on the table and me. it's

46:17

why she's such a hard worker and

46:19

even when her body failed her. and

46:22

I know system want to be defined

46:24

by chronic illness, but I find how

46:26

she's been able to persevere despite this

46:28

hardships incredibly inspiring. Next

From The Podcast

High Low with EmRata

Hi, I’m EmRata, aka Emily Ratajkowski. Maybe you know me from my work as an actress or model, or maybe you’ve read my bestselling book, My Body. I’m interested in marrying everything high and low-brow by talking about pop culture and happenings that may seem frivolous in a way that raises big questions. On this podcast, I’ll be talking about everything from politics, philosophy, and feminism to sex, TikTok, and relationships. Every Tuesday, I’ll host intimate conversations with special guests, including celebs, incredible authors, close friends, and people I admire. In the week’s second episode, I’ll talk about whatever’s happening in the world and what it’s making me think about, including anecdotes, personal opinions, and, ideally, some thought-provoking questions. Finally, you can subscribe to a third exclusive episode each week where you get to be part of the show. I’ll go through your comments and answer your DMs. My hope is that this series will be a place where you can come to have fun and take part in thoughtful discourse. High Low with EmRata is a Sony Music Entertainment and Bitch Era Media production. Subscribe to ‘High Low: Talk Back’ for exclusive extra episodes every week. Plus, you’ll get all episodes of High Low ad-free.
