When a woman becomes a mother, she can fall under the tyranny of all of the rules, assumptions, constrictions and expectations of what a mother is and what she does. What happens when a woman doesn't fit the narrow mold of "mother"? What happens when she doesn't want to flex and shrink and mutate her creature to fit inside the narrowness of existence that is acceptable for a mother?
