***SPOILERS AHEAD***

Season 1, Episode 7: “Test”

Episode 7 opens with Gloria teaching a class and Thomas waiting outside to speak to her. She is skeptical at first, but ultimately he convinces her to help him.

Heidi and Walter are in session, Walter wants to talk about what happened in his room, but Heidi wants to stay focused on the session. Walter says he’s less focused on what happened with Lesky. He doesn’t feel sad or angry, and no longer feels responsible. BUT he doesn’t remember Titanic Rising. And with a little more pressing from Heidi, it’s also revealed that he can no longer remember the details of the day Lesky died.

In fact, Walter says he feels great for the first time in a long time. Heidi ends the session and is starting to panic a bit.

In 2022, Heidi arrives home to loud music and finds Thomas there. Her mom is very happy because he fixed her record player. And it’s worth noting that the music is kept loud throughout the scene – they don’t lower it so the viewer can hear the dialogue better. This sets a somewhat unsettling/overwhelming tone for the scene that’s really effective.

Thomas presents Heidi with his evidence. Apparently she sent Gloria the recordings of her six weeks of sessions with Walter. Heidi hears her voice on the recordings and sees her handwriting, but she is still hostile and uncooperative. She continues to tell Thomas she doesn’t remember. I think she doesn’t trust Thomas because I would probably be very eager to learn all of this info, but instead Heidi is almost defensive.

In 2018, Heidi calls Colin and tells him about Cruz’s memory loss. Colin thinks it’s great! Heidi insists the medication is not working the way it’s supposed to, and Colin calls her “hysterical.” He tells her that yes, they need to tweak the medication, but she is doing great and this is fantastic news. He says the DoD is going to “open the fucking hose” and they’ll be able to “deploy these guys much sooner.”

Wait – WHAT? Heidi had no idea they were prepping the soldiers to be deployed again. I was shocked, too. Going back to episode five, remember that Walter made the comment that each of them were worth probably $100K to the government. And now it seems they want to get their money’s worth!

Colin tells Heidi, “Walter doesn’t belong to you. He made a decision to fight for his country and we’ve given that back to him.”

Thomas leaves Heidi’s house and Colin is watching from his car on the street. “Hunter” calls Heidi and he tries to gently persuade her not to go after her lost memories, but he doesn’t want to rouse any suspicion. She plans to go to Tampa to visit Homecoming, so he offers to go with her to find “Colin.”
