The death of David Bowie prompted a wave of national mourning and raised the question of what role pop music now plays in our lives. Will there ever be pop stars again with Bowie’s influence? Is music now a spent force locked in competition with mobile phones, games, television and the internet? Does music still matter?Does Music Still Matter, was the fourteenth in the series 37 Things You Need To Know About Modern Britain. The talk was hosted by writer and broadcaster, Stephen Armstrong. He was joined by Pete Paphides, music writer, broadcaster and record collector, alongside singer-song writer, Crispin Hunt, former vocalist of Britpop band Longpigs, and British television presenter, journalist and DJ Zezi Ifore. Together they explored the question ‘Does Music Still Matter?’ in today’s ever-evolving creative climate.
