DAILY INSPIRATION

“Your Calling”

The common question that arises in the mind of believers, is this: What is my calling? Or What am I supposed to be doing? These questions sometimes come up, when a person feels trapped or unfulfilled at a particular job. The question of “What is my calling” arises often when a person has gone through several life changes or they recognize that they have certain gifts, but don’t know what to do with them. It is my prayer that what I’m about to share gives understanding and clarity to those who’ve wondered about their “Calling”.

To begin, to use your gift and to understand your call is a noble and an honorable thing to desire; but it’s important to NOT become consumed with chasing it. Why? Because, you don’t want to find yourself in the unhealthy position of being infatuated with the gift instead of being in love with the giver of the gift. It’s a dangerous thing to chase a “Calling” and then ignore the one who called you. Which leads me to the foundation of what and who your calling is all about. There are many great men and women of God in the Bible who were called and accomplished great things. What made them special was NOT their intellect, their speech, their looks or their unique abilities: They were special because they had an encounter with God. From Abraham, Moses, Deborah, Elizabeth, Elisha, Mary and all the way to Peter and Paul: They all had an encounter with God before they could do anything.

There is a beautiful example, found in Mark chapter 3; where Jesus demonstrates what’s most important within our gifts and our calling. In Mark 3:13,14, Jesus selects twelve who would go out to preach. The most amazing part about this special invitation is Not that they were called to preach. The amazing part is that, before Jesus even gives them an assignment; the Bible says, that He called them to Himself first. This is so powerful; I hope you catch it. The greatest “Call” is not to do, but to BE with Jesus. In reality, the “Call” to BE is always greater than the “Call” to DO. Why? Because, if you’re not being who you are supposed to be, then whatever you do is going to be incomplete. For example: I am a follower of Jesus and I have been called to preach; But if I wasn’t being a follower, then my preaching would be in vain.

If you are at the place where you are battling and trying to figure out what your calling is or how and when to use your gifts; this is what I’d encourage you to do. First, as you are discovering what you are called to do; don’t get caught up in the specifics: Focus more on 1st Corinthians 10:31 which says, “So, whether you eat or drink, or WHATEVER you do, do all to the glory of God. Second, strengthen your relationship with Jesus; while embracing the blessing, the privilege and the honor of being called to HIM. Lastly, change your focus from doing, to being more with Jesus and in His presence, you will discover what to do. Amen

I pray that this “Daily Inspiration” was a huge encouragement to you. For additional reading on this topic, take a look at Luke 10: 38-42. Also, don’t forget to use your share button to bless someone else. Have a wonderful day!
