The froSTING of Success

Entrepreneurship is the path you and I have chosen; a path filled with twists and turns and yes, failures, that will test our resolves. Not all of us will make it, at least not in the way we initially intended. As we have seen time and time again, today being no different, a spirit with fortitude, a willingness to stare our fears in the eyes as we walk through them is the necessary recipe to continue on this path. The life of an entrepreneur is not always going to be rainbows and puppies, but as today’s guest shows us, it does sometimes have cupcakes.

Gigi Butler joins us today to share her rags to riches tale, a story that truly exemplifies the American Dream. This is an uncut single episode this week where I join Gigi in her kitchen to hear this amazing story…and I got cookies on my birthday.

Who is Gigi Butler?

With even more courage than she has frosting, Gigi Butler started her entrepreneurial journey before she was old enough to drive. At 15, she began a cleaning business as a means to fund her real dream, to become a country music star. Cleaning bathrooms by day with water and pail in tow paled in comparison to the thought of the bright stage lights on Broadway in Nashville, TN. She continued this way for over a decade before she was willing to leave those lights behind for the light at the end of the tunnel…well, an oven light if we’re going to be precise.

With $33 left in her account and multiple banks declining loans, Gigi leveraged her personal credit cards to open the first Gigi’s Cupcakes on that very same Broadway in Nashville in 2008. Gigi’s cupcakes franchises quickly spread across Nashville and America like a smooth buttercream filling in the confectionary cracks in our lives. Today Gigi still owns the original location, but has shifted her focus towards helping inspire entrepreneurs like us. She’s appeared on Undercover Boss and written an autobiography entitled The Secret Ingredient: Recipes for Success In Business and Life.
