know cool He was a bad

2:03
here. Well, this guy, this
2:05
guy here, uh, he, he,
2:07
he's not like Corn Pop. He's
2:09
a good dude. Uh,
2:12
and he's Brian Orr. Yeah,
2:15
that's right. Brian Orr. Hey,
2:18
Brian Orr here live from AHR
2:20
2024. I mean, this
2:22
isn't actually live, but I am recording this live
2:24
ducked away for a couple seconds. I'm
2:28
one of the many conversations that I had
2:30
here at AHR. Hope
2:33
you enjoy. Good morning.
2:35
Tony Gonzalez from Field Peace. Brian, good morning to you. You're
2:37
supposed to say the whole thing. Good morning. Brian
2:40
Orr from HVAC school makes it a little bit more
2:42
official. I mean, that's just, it's just a suggestion. I
2:44
do not get that memo, but morning Brian Orr. You
2:47
didn't read the script. Okay. Good.
2:49
Well, it's good to see you again at AHR. We've made it
2:51
kind of a habit of doing these sorts of things. You've got
2:53
some new stuff this year that I want to talk about, but
2:55
in general, you've got to be able to do it. I mean,
2:57
yeah, it's just a high level. What's going on at Field Peace?
2:59
What's been going down? There's been a lot of good things
3:02
going down at Field Peace. Field Peace has been growing tremendously.
3:04
As you know, I've been with Field Peace since 1998. So
3:07
I've seen it from very, very tiny to
3:09
now where we're at now, which medium
3:12
sized company, I guess you can say, but
3:14
the philosophy, the mentality of developing
3:16
solutions, not really products hasn't changed, which I'm
3:18
happy about. Talk about that for a second.
3:21
Cause that's actually something we've talked about a
3:23
lot. Guys like Jim Bergman and I have
3:25
talked a lot about this. The idea of
3:27
providing solutions versus just building
3:29
tools. What's the mindset there? So
3:32
the mindset is really understanding your customer,
3:34
understanding the HVAC tech, understanding their pain
3:36
points, understanding what is the
3:38
end result that they're trying to get to.
3:42
And when you understand that and you understand
3:44
the variables, you can develop a solution around
3:46
it instead of, Hey, I have
3:48
an idea for this great product. Let me go
3:50
find a problem for it. Or even worse,
3:52
which is just seeing a product that already exists
3:55
in the market and saying, we need one of
3:57
those too. And you'd be
3:59
amazed how often. that is the conversation. Because
4:01
I do talk to manufacturers of tools quite
4:03
often and they'll ask for advice on things.
4:05
And it's always like, I saw
4:07
somebody else do this. And
4:09
so I want one of those. And that isn't
4:11
thinking through the actual solution that you're trying to
4:13
provide. And I've been very impressed
4:15
with Fieldpiece over really probably the last 10
4:18
years. I've seen a real
4:20
shift in thinking about how to solve particular
4:22
problems. Although I will say, even from the
4:24
very beginning, Ray's invention of the
4:26
multimeter that you could use to measure the current
4:28
on the blower with the door closed. A lot
4:31
of people don't realize that, but that was really
4:33
one of the early things that he came up
4:35
with because he was trying to solve a particular
4:37
problem that tech space. That's the thing. And just
4:39
the fact that there was a meter that
4:42
measured microfarads, capacitance. Back
4:44
in the late 80s, technicians had to have
4:46
two or maybe three different meters on them just to
4:48
get the measurements that they needed. And so Fieldpiece was
4:51
founded on that. Fieldpiece was founded on, okay, what's the
4:53
problem? Let's find a solution. And
4:55
thankfully that hasn't changed. So you
4:58
brought today, and I have not seen these yet.
5:00
I literally am coming in completely blind. It's a
5:02
secret. Is it something that you're launching
5:04
here or should it? Actually something that we're launching here.
5:06
Great, okay, because I was worried that maybe I should
5:08
have known about it and now I'm just running out.
5:10
So good, I'm safe. So what is it
5:12
and what are some of the innovations here? So have
5:14
you heard of Milwaukee's
5:16
philosophy of their
5:19
customers aren't buying a drill, they're buying
5:21
a hole? Okay, right.
5:24
So what we are coming out with is
5:28
an unrestricted service port and
5:30
making that task easier, faster and
5:32
better than it's ever been. So it sounds like a
5:34
valve core removal tool. That's exactly what it is. Okay,
5:36
look at that. Valve core removal tool. No, I gotta
5:39
take, that was perfect. Yeah. We
5:42
got assistance from the audience, thank you. Okay,
5:44
so we have a new line of valve
5:46
core removal tools that have some
5:48
pretty sweet innovations in there. Now
5:50
this is great for an audio only
5:52
medium. Well, everybody's gonna get
5:55
a chance to see it anyway. So actually, you know
5:57
what, here, I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna really do
5:59
this well. I'm gonna take a picture of it
6:01
as we're speaking. Every way I can post it
6:04
on socials right afterwards. This is great. This
6:06
is even better for an audio podcast. Yeah,
6:08
absolutely. There you go, all right. Taking pictures?
6:10
Yep, absolutely. Yeah, everybody wants to see that.
6:12
Okay, so go on. Okay,
6:14
so I mean, right off the bat, what
6:17
do you see that's different? I mean, I see a
6:19
lot that's different. And so like, I'm trying to pick
6:21
out the differences in between these. This one here is
6:23
the most exotic as you actually have two ball valves
6:25
on it and you have a sight
6:28
glass in it, which is something I've never seen before.
6:30
There's a lot going on here. This is
6:33
a serious tool. So spending
6:35
time with the contractors, training them,
6:37
when I'm training on system evacuation and
6:40
increasing flow, removing valve cores, you always
6:42
get a chuckle when it's like,
6:44
okay, you screw on your VCRT and
6:48
you unscrew your valve core and
6:51
then you pull out the plunger and then you
6:53
play the game of, did I get it?
6:55
Did I get it? Yeah, did I get it? Did I get
6:57
it? Yes or no? And inevitably,
6:59
rarely do they get it the first time. I
7:02
know it takes me a couple of tries
7:04
to actually get the valve core out. So
7:06
the idea for the sight glass is as
7:08
you remove it out, you can
7:10
visually see whether or not you have the
7:13
valve core before you blink
7:15
off and not have to waste time
7:17
of unscrewing and unscrewing back your
7:19
plunger back on. In addition to that, I
7:22
mean, you get the same benefit as you
7:24
would having a sight glass in a digital
7:26
manifold because a lot of people are using
7:28
job link probes or just wireless probes in
7:30
general and charging through that, but
7:32
then you don't really have a sight glass. So this
7:34
also gives you the benefit of seeing the condition of
7:37
the refrigerant, is it liquid, is it vapor, are
7:39
the contaminants or just overall, any benefit you
7:41
would get from a sight glass, you
7:44
would also get that here in the valve core
7:46
removal tool plus the benefit of
7:48
seeing, did I get the valve
7:50
core? Yeah, and for me, I think for
7:52
somebody who's new to using a VCRT, this
7:54
is the problem with a lot of tools,
7:56
especially in a business, it's like you
7:58
can master it. it yourself.
8:01
But it's quite another thing to hand it to one of
8:03
your technicians or an apprentice and say, okay, now use
8:05
this. And so that sight glass
8:07
is really great for that because like you said,
8:09
so often, especially newer techs, they
8:11
really struggle to get that core and there's all these
8:14
little tricks that you got to do. On a side
8:16
note story, I got to give Jim Bergman a little
8:18
shout out here because we were doing a video together
8:20
out of my place. I'll be darn I could just
8:22
not get the stupid core out of this particular piece
8:25
of equipment. He does it the first time. He's like,
8:27
dude, I mean, aren't you like 150 years
8:29
old, you shouldn't be able to do this, but I digress. I
8:31
always got to rib Jim a little bit. That's
8:33
a great innovation. Besides the fact that it's just there's
8:36
something visceral about being able to see like a sight
8:38
glass is just a nice thing to have just to
8:40
see what's going on. I really also like
8:42
the build on it. It's just like an aluminum, the main
8:44
body here feels like it just has a really nice feel
8:46
to it. I believe so. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway,
8:48
just a nice looking tool. I also like this,
8:50
which is it's got the knurled knob on it
8:52
because this is another thing that's a real pain
8:54
in the butt whenever you're using a VCRT. So
8:56
it is. So here you have
8:58
a pre tensioner, right? So it's
9:01
going to help fight back against some of the
9:03
pressure that's coming back from the system as you
9:05
unscrew. But inevitably when you use a VCRT, you
9:07
have to do two things with your hands. Number
9:10
one, you have to push, push
9:12
down, right? And this way as you're trying
9:14
to twist, right? So you're kind of fighting
9:17
yourself as you twist there. But on these
9:19
two models, we have this comfort spinner. That's
9:21
a free spinning thing. So as you apply the pressure
9:24
here, it free spins, just free spin. It reminds me
9:26
of like the little Klein screwdrivers with the spinning top
9:28
for thermostats and that kind of thing. Yeah, that's the
9:30
feel. So sorry, I keep digressing with these stupid stories,
9:32
but I remember the first time I used one of
9:35
those, I used to always use the ones that you
9:37
got from the distributor that had the just the little
9:39
white one with the pocket clip on it, the thermostats
9:41
and even then even the flat blade was too big. In
9:43
a lot of cases, it's annoying. It's like you get these
9:45
new thermostats and they have the tiny terminals. The first time
9:48
I got one of those, it's like the whole world opened
9:50
up to me. So like now this is going to be,
9:52
I think that Eureka moments, man, this is a lot easier
9:54
to get this sucker out. Yeah. So,
9:57
and then Like, I Know you're going to appreciate
9:59
this because we've seen. Your training videos on
10:01
this but. Having a ball
10:03
valve integrated? Yup, aside for it right
10:05
there. Gay. So. Much. Easier
10:07
nicely. Yeah, the Audi like I as use.
10:09
There's actually several reasons why it's useful but
10:12
there's the primary one that's very evident as
10:14
the migrants you connect and my grandkids to
10:16
at you have some my friend gauges that
10:18
do okay with pressure but especially when you're
10:20
dealing with refrigerated the potential of any well
10:22
you get that on the censored I'm is
10:24
theoretically and I've had these conversations a lot
10:26
sorry I was go to the even the
10:28
stuff but steer radically to there's no flows
10:30
through the micro engage is you shouldn't actually
10:32
have any contamination, but if you've ever seen
10:34
what happens when you hit a micro engage
10:36
with any refrigerant. Thing just goes crazy and again
10:38
it's another one of these things that when you
10:41
have a process that has to have nuance to
10:43
it. Makes. Well you know
10:45
in this case that in this case this you
10:47
try to he and that to a new technician.
10:49
they're just gonna screw it up and get all
10:51
confused. Said this just helps remove that because now
10:53
you can just velvet Often Eurasia, Remove the charge
10:55
valve off the micron gauge, release the charge and.
10:58
Bob's. Your uncle? that so. Interesting
11:00
about of what is it that it sickness in
11:03
does Now what they do now is a expose
11:05
them aggregates referred. That's really what happened my. Best.
11:08
Practice up to now would be and
11:10
what I've taught and what I've seen
11:13
other people teach his well you can
11:15
add a second bout core mobile tool
11:17
to that for that sideboard that's right
11:19
or of all valve next to the
11:21
baba or. A ball foul
11:23
video which you could do that now and
11:25
that's great. But. Have you make
11:27
that better? Well when you add a connection
11:30
you are adding a potentially point right number
11:32
one year set up and number two you
11:34
just making your to physically larger. The up
11:36
and spaces sometimes at a premium on these
11:38
service for itself. Just having the ball valve
11:41
integrated directly into that siport resolve those issues
11:43
and it just helps them do their job.
11:45
You know, easier, faster, better him. So when
11:47
you thought about all of these are these
11:50
good, better, Best. Or do they have some
11:52
different utilities? Yes so you can define them
11:54
as good, better, Best. So the first one.
11:56
Is the Fcc one, so that's
11:58
the single valve. Vouch.
12:01
for removal tool and this is most
12:03
like. Other. Valve for a mobile tools
12:05
are in the market if you need the smallest.
12:08
Most. Compact valve for mobile tool to be
12:10
able to fit in to get that out
12:12
for him. then. This. Is the guy
12:14
you? It's yeah I'm as so you said exactly
12:16
what I was thinking when I saw this. See,
12:18
I would still probably have both. I would probably
12:20
have this one and then them. nice one. Really
12:22
fancy once because there are going to be some
12:24
cases where some of those remi units are some
12:27
zoe like he just don't have space sort of
12:29
rag on ring there but sometimes you just don't
12:31
have space this guy's gonna do sometimes. be tough
12:33
and said when you have both for example, when
12:35
you are pulling a vacuum this is gonna be
12:37
really good because of the reasons that you just
12:39
mentioned. this is going to be the ones that
12:41
you want but even with this basic one. You.
12:44
Still have the advantage of this really nice
12:46
larger kind of neural design Where it's not
12:48
just doesn't just have the cross hatch on
12:50
it. It also has these groups which if
12:53
you feel this and everybody sues your encouragement
12:55
and the can feel it's it's just a
12:57
much better feel. There's little ones that are
12:59
just they just feel kinda difficult. So yeah
13:01
lots of like even about tomorrow and is.
13:04
There. Was also thought into very very
13:06
small aspects of this. so if you
13:08
notice the ball valve the actual fab
13:10
itself. It is very small. And.
13:13
So when you turn it doesn't have the me
13:15
bar and or right right right around, right up
13:17
against the wall of a riot or just something
13:19
like that. I mean. There. Was
13:21
a lot of thought that went into actually
13:23
solving issues that are currently out there in
13:26
the sale with the buff com over tools.
13:28
Also nice thing about the lineup is the
13:30
city right here. This. Is a quarter
13:32
and city. And. This is replaceable
13:34
or swappable. With. The five sixty in
13:36
spitting on the seem to us on the same tool
13:39
so then you won't need to be c or to.
13:41
And. Or you won't need to
13:44
screw on of five Sixty. Instead it
13:46
onto your adapter right when they
13:48
may say longer Yeah right. This just
13:50
unscrew that out of his the
13:52
it's. Gasket. It with an Oregon
13:54
or that stuff so the still maintain the ceo
13:57
of vacuum rated down to twenty microns obviously screwed
13:59
on, squandered by sick. The. And.
14:01
Don't say obviously. Very girl that is still
14:03
the I run into this all the time
14:05
and this is just anybody who thinks that
14:07
I'm my own contracting company. Everybody just listens
14:09
to all of my words with bated breath
14:11
and despise the tools. I suck. My trust
14:13
me it is not how it is. It's
14:15
like a profit is unwelcome in his own
14:18
hometown. It's that kind of thing. And I
14:20
get new tax sinuses who are always buying
14:22
bcr to easily by off amazon or they
14:24
get the cheapest will make and gets. And
14:26
like all those things think they don't work
14:28
at all. nothing will to vacuum. It's like
14:30
you gotta get one. That was specifically. Designed
14:32
to hold under vacuum as his. and then I
14:34
give him a two hour speech and then for
14:36
some reason they don't like me. I don't know
14:38
why this happens in Southern any to learn, but
14:41
anyway, it's not obvious that they hold down the
14:43
that level. Most Vcr cheese on the market still
14:45
today do not. and so it's really see that
14:47
it doesn't match us Billie to that level. Absolutely.
14:50
So. Here you have a good contact. You.
14:52
Step up to the easy ones. He says
14:55
a single valve with a psych class and
14:57
other senses they're talking about and then it's
14:59
just want the actual best of the best

and you step up to the Vc to

g. And. That's basically to valve
15:05

15:09
yes, that's very good. Thank you for clarifying

guaranteed. I'd.
16:06
Say let's talk a little bit now about more. First
16:08
off, I just want to thank you for keeping me
16:11
in the dark on this the whole time. I'm glad
16:13
to see that you trust me, that's very much appreciated.
16:15
Walk off as which consists in stock a little bit
16:17
about what you doing on the training side because you
16:19
are doing a lot and seen a lot of really
16:22
great results from that yes a woman people don't know
16:24
as up until three years ago feel peace did not
16:26
have a training department you know, like a mess and
16:28
bills he'll be twenty plus years shipping. receiving a quality
16:30
product testing is in Erie and three years ago I
16:32
started our training. Hard to. Sort. Of
16:34
every high level we train distributors of off
16:37
each the benefits and we train contractors mostly
16:39
technicians and contractors. I had a user tools
16:41
and how to help them do their job.
16:43
Is your peloton better? It's and one of
16:45
the way that we do that is we
16:48
are Selfish University and Selfish University is our
16:50
online learning resource. Were technicians can go sign
16:52
up everything free. Many of our classes have
16:54
any credits on there but just basically learn
16:57
best practices on how to do different tasks.
16:59
On the job this year. Thankfully I'm going to
17:01
have more time freed up dead. Generate
17:03
more and more training videos. Minutes of his
17:05
university says you know content is king him
17:08
when she creates a beast you gotta feed
17:10
the beast awesomely in. As like our children
17:12
they never stopped getting hundred physicists. Trust me
17:14
trust me I know I have three refrigerators
17:16
and my so it never ends Know it's
17:18
true. Concentration is at a lot of credit
17:20
you for doing as much of it as
17:23
you have been. It's great to see the
17:25
focus on. It's so. We're. Going a
17:27
product more medicine the end. But if people want
17:29
to find out about jobs university, where do they
17:31
go for that? Yes, Are you
17:33
just basically search Feel Peace University. It's
17:35
on the blue both Lms learning plot
17:37
of our butts just searched up as
17:39
university it'll be the first one on
17:41
their while Google. Yes it'll Google Google
17:43
Yeah. Last. Month we released
17:45
a training track on combustion analysis
17:48
own I So a training track
17:50
is basically like book. and
17:52
there's different chapters within the buzzers basically guide
17:54
are learning now because this is my i
17:56
can speak a little negatively on it one
17:58
of the downsides are some University right now
18:02
is there are plenty of training
18:04
courses but there's no really
18:06
guided learning on what should I
18:08
do and so now we're moving
18:10
more towards these training tracks where
18:12
they are sequence training courses that
18:14
follow down a path to get
18:16
an application done. So this training
18:18
track on combustion analysis is a
18:20
series of seven training courses that
18:22
walks you through turning on your
18:24
combustion analyzer from outside all
18:26
the way to generating your report at
18:28
the end of the job. And so
18:31
show on the best practices on how
18:33
to maintain your combustion analyzer, where to
18:35
take measurements, all that fun stuff and
18:37
it's free and it's got new credits to it. If
18:39
those that are so inclined for the new
18:41
credits can get that but yeah we're
18:44
just really excited about it. It's gotten a lot
18:46
more traffic than what I had anticipated previously and
18:48
so it's really great
18:50
to see many manufacturers
18:53
but especially field piece like you said
18:55
focusing on the application. The technician
18:57
in the field what did they need
18:59
to know in order to do their job more
19:01
successfully in order to serve their clients in order
19:03
to also do it efficiently. I mean that's a
19:05
huge factor. That's where we saw things really blow
19:07
up with vacuum. As soon as we started showing
19:09
everybody hey you can do it quicker you
19:12
can get a better result and you can
19:14
actually save money through this process. This actually
19:16
translates to something that really matters to the
19:18
contractor so it's really smart really helpful. All
19:21
right final topic, A2Ls. I'm going to be
19:23
real honest I have A2L fatigue right now,
19:25
mildly flammable refrigerant fatigue or I have mild
19:28
fatigue for flammable I don't know
19:30
because we're just talking about it so so much but
19:32
the tool side is something a lot of people are
19:34
interested in. So talk about that a little bit. What
19:36
do people need to know about tools and A2Ls and
19:38
what it means to be safe as you're working with
19:41
them? So I
19:43
get the A2L fatigue because I'm constantly talking
19:45
about it but what helps me
19:47
feel better about it is there are still so
19:49
many people that have no idea what is going
19:51
on. We think our
19:54
voices reach everybody but they don't actually reach
19:56
everybody right and so constantly I'm coming across
19:58
people but the biggest question I get
20:00
when it comes to A2L and tools are, Tony,
20:02
do I have to throw all my tools away
20:05
and purchase all new set of tools, right?
20:08
And some of them are hoping that they have to
20:10
because some of us are tool addicts, so. Well, I
20:12
give two answers. First, I put on my salesman hat.
20:14
Yes, you absolutely have to throw away all your tools
20:17
and buy a new recovery machine, a vacuum pump, a Nestman,
20:19
driving probes, all that fun stuff. Right, and you also have
20:21
to speak to our wives after we spend all that money.
20:23
That's part of the deal too. Yes. You offer that service,
20:25
okay. You have to provide a solution to the problem that
20:27
we have. So I think, yeah, good, anyway. But
20:30
in reality, that is not the case.
20:33
Most tools that are manufactured anywhere in
20:35
the past five years or something like
20:37
that are pretty much already compatible and
20:39
safe to use with these mildly flammable
20:42
refrigerants. But from
20:44
a liability standpoint, and because of ASHRAE
20:46
standards 15.2 that are
20:48
on all these A2Ls, what a contractor or
20:50
technician needs to be certain
20:52
of is that the tool that
20:55
they are using is actually from
20:57
the manufacturer stated that it is
20:59
compatible to use with A2L
21:01
refrigerants. So if there's any doubt, then you
21:03
just go to your manufacturer of your vacuum
21:05
pump or your manifold or just whatever the
21:07
case may be and just confirm that they
21:09
declare that it is A2L
21:11
compatible. And then from a liability standpoint, you
21:13
should be okay in the field.
21:15
But on the fill piece side, yeah, pretty much
21:17
anything that is relevant is A2L
21:20
compatible. We list down here, A2L
21:22
compatible. There are no electronics
21:25
or anything that can spark or heat up,
21:28
but you will constantly get that question.
21:30
Are your valve cores A2L compatible? And
21:33
all that stuff. But yes, vacuum pumps, recovery
21:35
machines, manifold, job link probes,
21:38
scales, all that. Anything
21:40
that fill piece that you would use that's
21:42
related to A2L, we say that it's
21:44
A2L compatible. So the advice is, if you got a
21:47
tool you wanna know, go to the
21:49
manufacturer and get that certainty. But when
21:51
you think about the tools that really matter,
21:53
I think recovery machine is probably the biggest
21:55
one. That's the one that you're actually running
21:57
a significant amount of refrigerant through it. People
22:00
will bring up a vacuum pump. Well, you could have a
22:02
little bit of vapors like yeah but also if you look
22:04
at how flammable a 2ls really are and then this goes
22:07
down to the Education part where most
22:09
technicians who you talk to still believe well, I think it's
22:11
got a little bit of propane in it It's like no,
22:13
it doesn't have propane in it. It's not the same R290
22:16
is not the same flammability that we're gonna see in
22:18
a 2ls not that you don't need to be careful
22:20
because you do And I'm certainly not
22:22
talking down anybody who has fears about it But really
22:25
your recovery machine is the big one then maybe
22:27
a digital manifold or digital probes That that question
22:29
comes up could that potentially be an ignition source
22:31
and then maybe a vacuum pump but beyond that
22:34
Yeah, the VCT is I guess if they leaked
22:36
that could be a problem But anything can leak
22:38
if you use it improperly so it's
22:40
more about field practices than it is about the particular
22:42
tool I would say basically at the end
22:45
of the day I've done joint training with
22:47
Don Galis over at camo and things like
22:49
that and the main message that we try
22:51
to teach technicians when it comes to these
22:53
A2l systems and in refrigerants are
22:55
two things one if you're
22:57
already following best practices in the industry when
22:59
it comes to recovery Vacuum and
23:01
charging and all that stuff. There's very little that
23:03
you actually have to change in your day to
23:06
day Yeah, now if you aren't number
23:08
one, you should be right, but number
23:10
two This is just another reason to actually get
23:12
more towards the best practices and the second is
23:14
just kind of what we already talked about You
23:16
just want to make sure that your tool is
23:18
declared compatible with a 2ls. So it's a CYA
23:21
Yeah, yeah And that's what a
23:23
lot of the business owners concern and the
23:25
technicians concern and distributors concern There's a lot
23:27
of different buckets of things that they're concerned
23:29
about depending on their level of exposure And
23:32
there are real questions I never want to
23:34
sound dismissive because there are things like all
23:36
right Can you use an existing line set
23:38
if it's running through the occupancy? There's interesting
23:40
questions like that that certainly do matter and
23:42
are a little more complicated. But for the
23:44
field technician Make sure that your
23:47
tools are that the manufacturer says they're good to go
23:49
follow best practices and you're probably going to be fine
23:52
But it is something to watch out for and be completely
23:54
clear on Also, I Just
23:56
want to give you credit. You've done such a good
23:58
job you personally but also feel peace. Are
24:00
being collaborative with the industry him? you
24:02
see this more and more he talked
24:04
about during classes with Dawn Morse Koblenz
24:06
Been very involved ask over of obviously
24:08
has been very involved with a lot
24:10
of things. Everybody's getting so much more
24:12
willing to communicate so that way we
24:14
don't have all of these different. Voices.
24:17
Saying different things and I think that's actually
24:19
been. Really? Nice for this transition
24:21
for the industry. There's obviously strictly on the
24:23
regulatory side. plenty that we can criticize on
24:26
the field, but at least the industry is
24:28
really coming together because if you remember when
24:30
for ten A became the standard refrigerant, it
24:32
was just absolute chaos. Everybody was saying different
24:35
staff to some degree Is there still challenges
24:37
now? but at least the industry from all
24:39
these different players is coming together Saying this
24:41
is what you need to pay attention to.
24:44
Every Mother People that know a lot more than
24:46
I do with there are a lot of. This.
24:49
Transition from for Ten A to it's
24:51
Your Refrigerants is a lot more simple
24:53
than it was From twenty to to
24:55
Fourteen A right? Because we're not talking
24:57
about different pressures from a very similar,
25:00
we're not talking about hugely different oils.
25:02
Oils are very, very similar. There's just
25:04
a minor nuances that you wanna make
25:06
sure that you pay attention to. And
25:08
oh, yams, For. Their equipment are
25:11
actually putting all of this information
25:13
into their install manuals into their
25:15
mates manual. So. We. Should it's
25:17
as use those as knee pads anymore
25:19
we should actually look and see like
25:21
what are the differences that I need
25:23
to consider when I'm installing are surfacing
25:25
system with an A to wear refrigerants,
25:27
one of them being mitigation devices that
25:29
something that I'm. Pretty. New for
25:32
most agnes area and that contractors. but
25:34
all the information there and yourself a
25:36
favor and educate ourselves. Going to your
25:38
point I can't tell you. And
25:41
we're getting a little far afield or the
25:43
original topic here, but I can't tell you
25:45
how many times my entire class. With.
25:47
Our internal savages okay, where can read the main
25:49
altogether and they all roll their eyes like all
25:51
my gosh as the most boring thing ever. But
25:54
every time we do it we learn like twenty
25:56
things. It's incredible how many times you pick up
25:58
something or sometimes you find things that are income
26:00
and that happened a lot to and then stick
26:02
it to have a phone conversation with the manufacturer.
26:05
We decide that haven't recently but either way it's
26:07
very valuable. It's really useful to do that and
26:09
that's one of the the biggest pieces of advice
26:11
that I would give, especially the contractor. Is.
26:14
Don't just tell. Your. Technicians and
26:16
your employees Read the manual. Work.
26:18
With them through it worked through it with them
26:20
and especially if you're in front of the particular
26:23
devices are talking about. if you can get one
26:25
and stick it out the box before it's going
26:27
to go on the field and and just walk
26:29
through it because this is something that this year
26:31
I'm really talking a lot about which is as
26:33
idea of he go in humility, professional pride and
26:35
personal humility have the humility. To. Actually
26:38
understand yourself before you go to
26:40
your tech and say. This. Read
26:42
the manual and simple right is so boring, right?
26:44
Nobody wants to do it. but if you're not
26:46
willing to do it, then you're not demonstrating to
26:48
team. That. Same willingness and if you do
26:50
that, you're going to know a lot about a
26:52
to else. You're gonna learn so much it's incredible
26:54
how often. People. Will go up to
26:56
one of my tax or when a guy says really
26:59
good and I'll say how did you know that? How
27:01
did you get a secret wisdom and aside know I
27:03
just read the manual. That's all I did is reddit
27:05
and walk through it and work through it and
27:07
that's going to be used to safety. Easy to also.
27:10
And. Frankly, most people come into this
27:12
trade to avoid having to read stuff
27:14
anyways so had escaped with so yeah
27:16
you have to. It's senses tell someone
27:18
just read the manual right. read it
27:20
with them, make it a social on
27:22
attacked oh experience for sure. So. They.
27:24
Set up the deserts are Tsm and
27:26
that at the bottom with me. As
27:30
it read the fantastic manual with me with
27:32
right? right? Yeah, Absolutely. Research at Iso. Three
27:34
things we covered. We covered the new V
27:36
C R T line that I was completely
27:38
unaware of and has been released at the
27:40
show. I get to see a first year
27:42
as well. These things like really, really cool.
27:44
They. have features i didn't even think about
27:46
honestly that i think we'll make it a
27:48
lot easier to use them we talked about
27:50
seal beach university so literally just google feel
27:53
peace university or he always go to your
27:55
political sophie's.com and i told my the main
27:57
website you can find links they are and
27:59
then also A2Ls. When in doubt, check it
28:01
out with the manufacturer to see if what
28:03
you already have is able to
28:05
be used. In most cases, it sounds like it
28:08
is if you've got good quality fieldpiece tools at
28:10
least for the plug there. Yeah, that's
28:12
pretty much it I think. Anything else?
28:14
Yeah, so if anybody wants more information
28:16
on fieldpiece, obviously go to fieldpiece.com. Follow
28:19
us on the social media channels at
28:21
fieldpieceproducts.com. Throughout the show today, we are
28:23
at S9334, I believe. I hope I'm
28:25
not sending you on a wild goose
28:28
chase. But myself and my training team
28:30
are having micro training classes through your day at
28:32
11, at 12, and at
28:34
1 o'clock. So stop by if you want
28:36
a quick 15-minute refresher or just some great
28:38
on best practices for airflow, for refrigerant charge,
28:40
for evacuation, for recovery. We have a schedule.
28:42
Check it out, combustion analysis. I believe we
28:45
have you coming later on in the week
28:47
too. I am. I'm going to be there.
28:49
I'm going to be there. It's going to
28:51
be fun. So yeah, it's scheduled. Another absolutely
28:53
random fact is that Tony and I were
28:55
both big fans of the Jim Roam radio
28:57
show back in the 90s. So if
28:59
we make any weird references that don't make
29:02
any sense to you, it's probably related to
29:04
that. Jim Roam fans. Come on. Anybody? Anybody?
29:06
A couple? Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Good stuff.
29:08
Yeah. Welcome to the jungle. There we go.
29:10
Right. Awesome. And then I just have
29:12
to mention before we wrap up here, one
29:15
of my inspirations, one of the people who
29:17
was kindest to me early on in HVAC
29:19
school, Dan Hollihan is here, author of Pumping
29:21
Away and many other things, founder of heatinghelp.com.
29:23
So glad you're here, Dan. So good to
29:25
see you. Awesome to have you here. Thank
29:27
you, Tony. Thank you, Brian. Yeah, absolutely. Thanks
29:32
for listening to the HVAC
29:35
school podcast. You can find
